The past month has been a calamity for the family. First it was my wife and second, my sister-in-law. My name is Andrew Scott, though I'm always being called Andy. So I'd better start off by saying what happened to us all. My wife's name was Ruby with her sister being Pearl. The latter also known as Pearl Harbour, that's because anybody could enter her harbour and drop anchor. Her son, Colin was the result of one person having done so. She wasn't married and I've been led to believe that Colin was the name of the father of her son. He was just a week or two away from his eighteenth birthday when everything went haywire. I am thirty eight years of age and am self employed being a Financial Adviser working from home mostly. On this fateful day, I was going off to visit a client and went and dropped Ruby off at her sister's house for company, us only having a single bedroom flat and not having any children yet. Both of them worked together in the admin. Department of the local university where Colin had just finished earning his degree. Well I dropped Ruby off and went and saw my client. He lived on the other side of town so I was away for about five hours before returning to Pearl's house. On entering. I was met by a distraught Colin. `Thank heaven you've arrived. I've been trying for ages now to phone you without you answering the phone,' he said, tears in his eyes. `There's my mobile phone,' I said. `I don't know the number of that. Just after you left, auntie collapsed and mom called for an ambulance and she was taken off to hospital, mom going with her.' `Was she alright?' I asked, my heart pounding away inside my chest. `I don't know, for I had been out and only saw them as she was being put into the ambulance. Mom getting in too, telling me to get hold of you to follow them.' He was wringing his hands as he told me this and couldn't stop from pacing the floor at the same time. `Let's go,' I said to him, turning and leaving the house for us to get into my car and off we went to the hospital. I was lucky to find a parking place and we were quickly inside and went to the information desk. There was a young looking nurse sitting there and looked up at me as I stood there at the counter. `Yes sir?' she said. `My wife came in a short while ago. Ruby Scott. Can you tell me what is wrong with her,' I asked in agony. She turned to another nurse there. `Ruby Scott?' she asked of this nurse who had looked up. `D.O.A.' she said and my heart stopped beating for a moment, my brain going mad and so never heard what this nurse at the front said on the phone. She put the phone down and looked at me with what I believed to be a compassionate look. For I'm sure she could see in my eyes that I knew that she had been told, dead on arrival. `There'll be somebody along in a moment,' she said and so turned around to have Colin come and hug me, tears running down his cheeks showing that he too knew what had been said. We were like this for the few minutes before a young man came and stopped by me. He looked like being an intern. `Mr. Scott. Would you please follow me sir,' he said as I broke free from Colin's arms, and did as I was asked with Colin following me. We went along numerous corridors before entering a room where Pearl was, who jumped up from the seat, tears running down her face to as she hugged me. `She's gone,' she sobbed, her head resting on my shoulder. `I know,' I said in a choked voice. `Will you follow me sir,' the intern interrupted before anything more could be said, and so extracting myself from Pearl's arms, who then immediately used them to hold Colin as I turned and followed the intern through another door into a room filled with all kinds of medical machines and I saw straight away where Ruby lay on a trolley, covered by a sheet but leaving her face clear. That might have been clear but my eyes weren't as I looked at the closed eyes of her as she lay there. `We're sorry sir, but she had already passed away before she came to us,' the intern said. `There was nothing we could do for her.' I moved over and stroked her cold face, choking on the sob as I bent down and kissed her cheek. `We'll let you know the result after the autopsy,' I heard the intern say as I turned away, not being able to look at her lying there, gone from this world and me. I almost stumbled leaving the room and was steadied by that young man who I thanked a few minutes later. Pearl took my arm and led me from the room and we made our way back through the corridors and out into the fresh air. It was Colin who led us to where I had parked the car. `I'll drive,' said Pearl, opening the passenger door and pushing me inside. I don't recall us driving back to her house and being taken inside and it was not until some tablets were put in one hand and a glass of water in the other. `Takes these and go and have a sleep in Colin's room. He can sleep on the sofa tonight,' she said, guiding me to his room and seeing that I took the tablets before stretching myself out on his bed. I don't know what the tablets were but I seemed to fall asleep straight away. * I was almost my usual self when I woke up in the morning, finding that I was still wearing my clothes. I felt that I needed a good clean up and so got undressed and went and had a shower. I felt twice the man after that and having dried myself, went back into the bedroom and lay back down on the bed. I thought of the times I had laid in bed with Ruby, having sex and talking about that we should start having a child or two soon, but this was never to be now and my mind went back to how we use to make love to each other, stroking my cock until it was up hard. I never heard the bedroom door open nor see Colin for I had my eyes closed and it wasn't until he spoke did they open with a shock at hearing his voice. `A lot of the boys did that back at college,' he said. I frantically tried to cover what I was doing to myself, but found that I was lying on top of the bed covering so had no chance of covering myself. `Even I did, though quite a few of them would also suck on each other's cock. I even saw two of them fucking each other one night. Though I only kept doing what you were doing . Sorry to have barged in without knocking.' `It's my fault,' I said, still holding my cock in my hand, it having wilted a little at hearing his voice. `It's just that I was thinking of what I would be missing now that Ruby has left me. Sorry about that.' He came and sat down on the edge of the bed, looking more at my cock than at my face. `The fault was mine, though I've never had to knock on the door of my own room before. I must say though, that your cock is far bigger than those that I saw in college. It makes mine look small too. `Well I came in really to tell you that mom is about to start cooking some breakfast and wants to know will it be tea or coffee you would like with your breakfast?' `Coffee would be fine,' I said, now having got over the shock of him seeing what I had been doing to myself. So there was no problem of him seeing me roll off of the bed, naked, to start putting my clothes back on, with him then leaving the room as I did so. As we had breakfast, I thanked Pearl for letting me sleep over and would, when we finished eating, go home to sort things out, tears coming to my eyes knowing that I would then be alone, going through the things Ruby would have been wearing and try to decide what to keep and what to pass on to some charity shop. So later, I thanked them again as I said goodbye, getting a kiss from Pearl and a smile from Colin. That smile telling me that his mind was back in the bedroom seeing me naked and playing with my cock. I drove home to the now empty flat and couldn't help but take hold of Ruby's night wear in the bedroom, smelling her aroma as I held it up to my nose. I then cried as I did so and finished up hugging her pillows instead of her. * I was told later by the hospital that it had been a brain seizure that destroyed Ruby's life. It was instant and she wouldn't have felt a thing was the condolence that I was given. Her body had been passed onto a local funeral service who had said, if I agreed, to have the burial on the Saturday. This I agreed to, this day being Monday, giving me enough time to let her friends know of her passing. I also found out that Pearl had been doing the same, though she knew more of Ruby's friends than I did, so on the Saturday, there were at least a hundred people in the church and Pearl, bless her heart, had seen to us having the wake in one of the local hotels for those that attended the funeral. Three eulogies were spoken by girl friends of her and the words spoken brought tears to my eyes at just how much she had been loved by them too. Pearl said that she was paying for the wake but in that I refused to let her pay for all of it and finally got her to agree that we paid half each, this went off very well but was glad when it was over. Though it was a sorry man that returned to the empty flat, that stayed that way for a whole week, except for me being there. For it was just after that week that the second calamity came. * If you enjoy reading these short stories, why not make a donation to Nifty so that we can send more for you to read at http://donate.nifty.org/donate.html
