"What in the world do you think you're doing?!" I asked Danny harshly. There was a hurt look on his face before he answered, "What? No good morning? At least give me a kiss!" He smiled (awesomely) and turned his left cheek toward me, awaiting his kiss. I had an incredulous look on my face. I looked around and saw that the bus was almost full. I saw some stares. "Stop," I told him simply. He looked at me with this puppy dog face. I restrained myself from doing anything that would ruin my reputation. I gave him a "stop it or else" look and turned away and look out the window. The weather was still dull and gloomy, and it made me sleepy. We passed by a small subdivision and were now in an undeveloped area. Endless trees slowly zoomed past us, their foliage heavy with condensation. They barely moved since there was no wind to disturb them. They seemed to be at peace, nothing molesting or bothering them. My thoughts then brought me to Danny. I was struggling to figure out what the heck was up with him. "Is he playing around or is he gay? And why is it that he seems to be following me around?" I thought. I knew that he was new and that he may just need somebody to show him around, but there was something about him... Confusion racked my brain. He could be gay, but I couldn't affirm that and accuse him of something so severe. I decided I was going to ask him. I turned around and I saw him looking at me with dreamy eyes. I started to feel uncomfotable. "You're such a deep thinker. That's pretty hot..." he sighed. "Uh, thanks... Okay. Look. I don't know what you're doing or trying to say-" "Don't be so naive," he quickly interrupted with a tired look on his face, "You should already know that I'm coming on to you. Yes. I AM gay. Is there a problem with that?" I shook my head in response. I was shocked that he said it like it was nothing. I started to look away again when he put his left hand on mine. I tried to take my hand away but he held on fast to it. "I know. It's okay," he told me in a reassuring tone. "I don't know what you're talking about," I said quickly. "Don't play dumb with me. I'm not stupid-" "No seriously. I don't know what you mean- We're at school already. Have a good fist day," I said as I got up, shook off his hand, and was first to exit the bus as it stopped in front of the large school. I was shaken. How could he have known? How could he have known that I like him? I was letting my guard down. I was beginning to show external signs that I was turning. It wouldn't be long until other people noticed... I was walking to my lockers when a hand went on my shoulder. I turned around ready to snap, thinking it was Danny until I noticed that it was Cindy. "Hey Jeff! How's it going? Oh! New glass. Hot. Very hot." the dark-haired girl asked a bit too happily for the morning. "Oh. Hi Cindy. Thanks. Everything's fine," I lied- about being fine. She stared at me for a few seconds until I squirmed unfomfortably. "Okay, Jeff. How long have we been friends? Hmmm. PreK... Kindergarden... FOURTEEN YEARS! Yoou expect me to believe you? What do you think I am? Some stupid blonde?- Oh, I'm sorry. You're blonde... Anyway, I know there is something wrong with you and you better tell me or I'll have to beat it out of you. For the past week, you haven't been yourself, and it's botherig me," she huffed. I bit my lip and looked down at the floor. "I'll tell you after school..." was all I managed to say. She seemed satisfied with my answer. She pulled me toward our lockers. "Well, you better. I'll drive you home and we can talk there," she said. I agreed and went off to my first class. At lunch, I bought a sandwich and headed for the table I usually sat at with my friends. When I saw the table, I stopped dead in my tracks. Danny was sitting there with Cindy and my other friends. Cindy saw me and waved me over. Danny looked at my direction and started waving me over, too. I rubbed my temple and headed slowly for the table. The only seat open was the one in front of Danny so, I sat down, trying to avoid him. "Jeff! Meet Danny! He's he new transfer student. We have the first three periods together!" Cindy exclaimed excitedly. "We've met," I informed her monotonously. "We met at the bookstore in the mall. Actually, he toppled me over me," Danny told the whole group. "What do you mean, toppled?" Jason asked curiously. "I didn't have my glasses so I kinda ran into him and fell on him," I jumped in before Danny could mislead my friends again. The group laughed at what I said. "Yup. He did fall all over me. I was practically crushed under his body, which I think is really-". "Danny's a homosexual," I blurted. The whole table became silent at what I said. There was a cough from somebedy at the other end. "Yes. Jeffrey is right. I am gay," Danny said sternly. He turned my way and glared at me before getting up. "I have to go to the counselor's office," was all Danny said as he turned and left. Everyone looked at me and stared. I swallowed hard. I can't believe I said that. Cindy stood up from her seat and went over to me. She grabbed my left ear and dragged me out of my chair and into a corner, like a little child. "What the hell was that, Jeffrey?! You just outed him to people he just met? What were you thinking? Tell me? What were you thinking?" she asked hysterically. I couldn't look at her so I stared at the floor. My face was crimson with embarrassment and humiliation. "LOOK- AT- ME." Sometimes I think she thinks she's my mom or something, but I managed to raise my head. "God. You're like a child, but you're already 17 and you'll be 18 in a month! We definitely need to talk- after you apologize to Danny. Or else, I won't be talking to you for a long time. Don't be jerk. Just do it. Now, Jeff." Her stern look told only of her hidden disappointment. I nodded and proceeded to head toward the counselors. My mind was blank and I was breathing pretty heavily. I felt guilt course my veins and seep into my very core. My jaws were clenched tightly and my fists were balled up. I was like an living automaton. I looked up and saw Danny sitting alone on a bench under the courtyard tree. I guess him going to the counselor was an excuse to leave the table. I headed toward him shaking a bit. He heard me walking toward me and he look up, and his face was filled with betrayal and disappointment. He looked away and stared at the shadows the danced on the ground. I sat down beside him, still anxious. "What are you doing here?" he demanded. "I...I'm sorry. I'm sorry for what I did back there, Danny. I didn't mean to. It-it just came out," I managed to let out. He studied me closely. I looked at the ground, rich with green grass. I felt those deep blue eyes bear into my very soul. It was like that for a few minutes. I felt a gentle hand on my arm. I looked up at Danny. He had a sad smile on his face and his eyes told me that he understood why I did it. I was probably I was probably unnecessarily emotional for no large reason, but all the things I'd been feeling for a months now were rushing to the surface. I wasn't that emotionally strong, to say the least. I was shaking harder now because I was trying to puch it all back down. Danny noticed what was happening. He scooted over so that his body was against mine and he held me in place to keep me from moving away. By then, a tear had escaped me. I told myself that wouldn't happen. My breathing was uneven and choppy. Danny wrapped his arms around me and whispered in my ear to try and calm me. "Shhh... It's okay Jeffy. Let it out. It's alright..." he whispered. His words caressed me trying to calm me down. Danny held my head, and inhaled the scent of the skin of my neck. "Mmm... you smell nice..." he said. I really couldn't smell anything right then since snot was running out my nose, which is disgusting by the way. Danny's right hand cupped my right cheek and turned my head so I was facing him. He looked into me with those deep eyes. He ran his hand over my cheeks. He smiled and ran his other hand through my hair. His face approached mine. I swallowed hard. His eyes were closed and his red lips were parted slightly and his lips were getting infinitesmally closer to mine. My eyes closed and and inhaled deeply in anticipation for what was to come. I could feel his warm, moist breath. It was as if it was taking forever for it to happen. Finally, his warm lips pressed against mine. *** Thanks for reading and for teh comments!
