When You Least Expect It By B J Chapter 2 "How's that salmon coming along Michael?" I asked. "It's just about ready bitch. Give me two minutes." Michael replied jokingly. I laughed. "If it was anyone else saying that to me I'd be writing them up Mikey." He glared at me then laughed. Yeah! Michael can't stand to be called Mikey or Mike. "But you love me. Who else would you be going to The Fruit Loop with to look at all the other hot guys?" I rolled my eyes at him. Michael Norton has become one of my best friends in the past couple months. He and I met here at The Currents, a restaurant in the Aladdin Hotel where we're both chefs. Michael is my first gay friend here in Las Vegas. When he starts talking you know that he's gay however, when you first see him he doesn't have that `I'm queer and I want you to poke me in my rear' look. "I only go because you drag me out with you crack head." I said. "Bitch! Who you calling crack head? I don't stick my face in a guy's ass. He sticks his head in mine," He argued. I laughed so hard I nearly dropped the pan that had a couple of steaks in it. Michael just smiled. "Tonight, you and I are going to Escape Lounge. I need a glass of wine or four." He said. I nodded. For the rest of the night he and I kept teasing and joking with each other and the other employees in the kitchen. "Oh my God! My feet are killing me tonight. We were so busy tonight." Michael whined as he took a sip from his glass of white zinfandel. I laughed. Every Friday night we'd go through the same spiel of Michael complaining about his feet. I just laughed and sipped on my Captain and Coke. "So, Mr. James when are you going to start dating again?" He started. "It's been almost six months since you've been here and broke up with the cheating asshole in New York." I took another sip from my drink. "I've only been here for two months Mikey." I said. The Michael glare along with a slap to the arm followed. I laughed. "Is that all? It seems like you've been here longer than that." He said. "And I'm not ready to date yet." I said. "Oh honey, you're not getting any younger. You're good looking, you've got a great job, you've got your own place, and you have the personality that draws people in. You should be able to find a great guy that's not a cheater. You can't let the asshole make you jaded. Not all guys are like him." Michael said. "I know, I know. I'm just not ready yet. I'm not going to look for anyone. If it happens then it happens." I replied. Michael nodded. It was two in the morning by the time we left the bar and Michael was in no condition to drive. "Come on Mikey you're coming home with me. You can sleep on the couch." I said. "Whore please, I'm taking one of your spare bedrooms." Michael said. I laughed. "I'll bring you back down to get your car later." He nodded. I helped Michael up the stairs to my condo. I went to the kitchen to grab a couple bottles of water. "Here you go hooker." I said. "I'm going to lay down now." Michael said taking the water and heading to the spare bedroom on the first floor. "Sleep well," I said to his retreating form. He just waved at me. I laughed softly and locked up. I noticed the light blinking on the answering machine. `You have two unheard messages. First unheard message," the robotic voice said. `Hey little brother, I hope you remembered that Aaron and I are flying in tomorrow morning.' BJ's voice said. `Shit! I forgot.' I thought. `Our flight arrives at eleven. AJ wants to do lunch at Todai.' I wrote down the time they came in. `Message deleted. Second unheard message,' I waited for the message to start. `Hey CJ, I know BJ probably called to remind you that we're flying in tomorrow. We're bringing DJ with us. Mom and Dad begged us to bring him. We're coming in at eleven and we'll be there for the week. See you tomorrow morning. And if you're having sex, make sure you change the sheets.' AJ laughed. I shook my head at the message. I shut off the lights and went to bed. The smell of coffee woke me up. I looked over at my alarm clock and saw 9:05 AM. "Good morning sunshine! Wake your happy ass up." Michael beamed. "Damn! You're up early." I said. "And I made breakfast too." He said. I got out of bed and headed to the bathroom. "What are you doing today?" Michael asked me from my bedroom. "I have to pick up the siblings from the airport. They'll be in at eleven." I answered. "That's why you took the week off." He said. "Yeah," I said with a mouthful of toothpaste. By the time we were done with breakfast it was 10:30. I drove Michael back to his car. "Maybe we can all do dinner this week." He said. "Sounds good, I'll let you know what we have going on and give you a call." I said. Michael nodded and drove off. I headed on over to McCarran International Airport and parked up in the garage. It was 11:15 when I walked into baggage claim. My brothers and sister were walking towards the exit. DJ dropped his little suitcase and ran over to me. "CJ!" He yelled and jumped into my arms. "Hey little man," I said hugging and kissing him. "How was the flight?" He wrapped his arms around my neck tightly. "It was fine. AJ and me played Pokemon on my game boy." He answered. I smiled. "Cool! Did you beat him?" I asked. "Yeah, AJ isn't too good at it." I laughed. I put him down so I could hug my other brother and sister. BJ handed DJ his suitcase. "Hey guys," I said hugging them. "How's everything going?" AJ asked looking at me in the eyes. "Things are going well. Work's a lot of fun. Michael wants to go out to dinner with us this week." I answered. "Are you dating yet?" Brooke asked. "Not yet." I said. "Well, what about that guy mom kept talking about at the bank?" She asked. "What about him? I've seen him once or twice since then. He seems like a nice enough guy." I said. We walked to my 4-Runner and loaded their bags. I drove over to the Planet Hollywood Hotel and to the valet parking lot outside the restaurant. The four of us were seated, ordered our drinks, and were filling our plates of the Japanese food on the buffet line. I helped DJ fill his plate. The four of us talked and laughed over lunch. "We'll go back to the condo after lunch to drop off your bags then I have to go grocery shopping." I said. AJ and DJ opted to stay at the condo and go swimming while BJ and I went shopping. We walked into Smith's Food & Drug. We walked around the grocery store filling the cart. "I was thinking of grilling some steaks Friday night and having Michael over." I said as I bumped into someone. "Excuse me, sorry." The other person and I said. We looked at each other and smiled. "Hey Colin," He said. "Hi Jeff," I smiled. "Is this your wife?" He asked. BJ laughed. "No, I'm his sister." She said. "I'm Brooke or BJ as everyone calls me." She held out her hand for him. "I'm Jeff Marshall." Jeff said shaking her hand. "Oh! You're as cute as our mom said." BJ said. I blushed at her comment. Jeff smiled shyly and blushed. "Thanks," He said. "So, Jeff do you have a girlfriend, boyfriend, wife, or husband?" She asked. "I'm single. I don't have a boyfriend and am not dating anyone right now." Jeff laughed. "I apologize for my sister being so forward." I said shaking my head. "What? You weren't going to ask him so someone had to." Brooke said. I blushed. "It's okay." Jeff smiled. "What are you doing Friday night? You should come over and have dinner with us. We're grilling steaks." She said. "Do you live near by?" I asked. "I have a condo in Ventana." Jeff answered. "So does CJ," BJ said. "Yeah, I know." Jeff said. I looked at him funny as he looked at me. "Remember I opened your account and got your address." I laughed and nodded. "So, what do you say to dinner Friday?" She asked again. "Sounds like fun." Jeff said. "What time should I be there?" I smiled. "I'm going to start grilling at seven." I answered. Jeff nodded. "Do I need to bring anything?" He asked. "We're doing margaritas with dinner but if you want anything else feel free to bring it. We'll take care of everything else." BJ said. "Okay, I'll see you guys Friday." Jeff said. "The condo number is 2045." She said. "Yeah, that would help." I said with a laugh. Jeff laughed. We took all the groceries home and put everything away. We played tourists during the day. We walked the strip, taking pictures, we took Dalton to the Circus Circus Adventuredome, The four of us went out to dinner with Michael, and did a lot of shopping. Michael took Friday off and came over to help and spend time with my brothers and sister. "Does Colin look nervous to you?" Michael teased. AJ and BJ laughed. "Why are you nervous CJ?" DJ asked. "Because there's a cute guy coming over that your brother likes." Michael said. I glared at him. "Hopefully CJ will go out with him." Brooke said. AJ and Michael laughed. "You're all jerks." I laughed. "Oh please, BJ asked Jeff to join us because you would've never done it." Aaron said. I blushed. "And look how close he lives to you. You're practically neighbors." Michael said as he and I were in the kitchen getting side dishes and dessert ready for dinner. "It's great having two chefs in the kitchen. Everything's freshly made rather than being pre-made." BJ said. "Dinner should be really good tonight." AJ said. "When has dinner not been good?" I asked as I laughed. "You're a great chef CJ. Everything you cook is delicious." BJ said. I cut up three of the porterhouse steaks into cubes and put them on skewers with some mushrooms, bell peppers, and onions after marinating the meat in a teriyaki sauce. Michael roasted red potatoes with garlic and thyme. DJ helped clean green beans and shuck ears of corn. I had some dough resting for wheat biscuits that I was going to fill with cheddar cheese and bake. Aaron made a pitcher of margaritas for the adults and peach tea for DJ. Jeff came over at 6:30 and joined us for drinks before dinner. I introduced him to everyone. "He is very cute," Michael whispered to me. "Shut up!" I laughed. "He so wants you." He said. "Look at him staring at you," I looked over at Jeff and he was actually watching me. I smiled at him. He grinned back. Michael went back to the living room to talk with BJ. Aaron came into the kitchen to catch up with me as he sat on the counter as I baked the rolls. DJ spent a lot of time asking Jeff all kinds of questions. "Jeff are you going to be Colin's new boyfriend?" DJ asked. Everyone stopped their conversations and looked over at the two. Jeff smiled at my little brother. "I don't know DJ. He and I would have to go out on a date and see how things go." Jeff answered. "Do you think CJ will go out on a date with me?" He asked in an exaggerated whisper. I shook my head and laughed. "Yeah, he would. You wouldn't be here tonight if he didn't want to go out with you." DJ said. I blushed as Jeff looked over at me with a smile. "But BJ asked me to come to dinner." Jeff said. "She did that because Colin never would." Dalton said. Everyone laughed. "How do you know that?" Jeff asked. "Because my big brother's shy," the little boy answered. Aaron went out onto the patio and started the grill. Brooke took the steaks and skewers out to him. The two sat outside as the meat cooked, talking and drinking their margaritas. Jeff joined me in the kitchen. "Do you need help with anything?" He asked. "You could remove those baked rolls and put them in that basket there." I said pointing everything out. "I can do that," Jeff said with a smile. I smiled at him. He and I spent the time in the kitchen getting to know each other. We were laughing at each other as we recalled stories of our childhood. Jeff was laughing so hard at a story I was telling. "So, when Dad walked into the men's room there I was standing in the urinal flushing it and trying to clean the dirt and mud off of me and my clothes." I was finishing. Aaron and Brooke walked into the kitchen with the steaks and beef and vegetable skewers. "I can't believe you told Jeff that story." BJ laughed. "You didn't tell Vince that story for over a year." AJ said. "What can I say? It's so easy to talk to Jeff." I said. They both smiled at me. "It's good to see that you're finally moving on little brother." BJ said sincerely. "So, when's your first date?" AJ asked. "I haven't asked him yet." Jeff said as he laughed. I smiled. "So, what do you say we go out to dinner tomorrow night?" He asked looking at me. "Sounds great, it's a date." I said. Jeff grinned. Dinner was great we all laughed and talked. AJ, Michael, and BJ all telling Jeff embarrassing things about me, I blushed. We sat around talking and sipping our margaritas as the dishwasher ran. "Can I ask who Vince is?" Jeff asked apprehensively. My brother and sister looked at each other then at me. I took a deep breath and sighed. "Vince is my ex-boyfriend. He and I were together all through college. We met in culinary school. He cheated on me twice and I had enough. We were together for ten years." I said with a small smile. "I'm sorry," Jeff said. "Don't be, it's not your fault." I reassured. "Well, his loss is my gain." Jeff said staring at me. I blushed. Brooke grinned. "Why are you single Jeff?" Aaron asked. Jeff laughed. "It's funny my mom is constantly hounding me to find a guy to date. My last relationship was over two years ago. He said that we were too young to get too serious. I don't think he cheated on me but I know he wanted to date other people." Jeff said. "I just never found a guy that caught my interest, until now." He finished with a smile at me. "Let's go out clubbing next weekend," Michael said. "Stella needs to get her groove on." We all laughed. "Okay Stella," I said. "It's been awhile since we've been down to The Fruit Loop. Of course Jeff, you're coming along to keep his ass in check." Michael said pointing at me. "Language," DJ said from his video game. We all laughed. "Sorry DJ," Michael said like a little kid being scolded. "Where are you two going to dinner?" BJ asked me and Jeff. I shrugged my shoulders. "I've wanted to try the Prime Rib Loft." Jeff said. I nodded. "Fabulous place," Michael said. "When are you all going back to Hawaii?" Jeff asked. "We leave Sunday evening." AJ answered. "Let's all do brunch at eleven on Sunday." Jeff suggested. "That sounds great! We'll have mimosas and Colin can cook." Michael said. "Thanks for volunteering me." I laughed. "Bitch please! You know you were going to anyway." He laughed. "Language," Dalton said. "I've got to remember to watch what I say around impressionable ears." Michael laughed. "I could start a swear jar." I joked. Michael glared at me. "I'll just start carrying rolls of quarters with me." He said. Everyone laughed. "Brunch is a great idea. Eleven o'clock here." I said. Everyone nodded. "CJ will you make hash browns and Eggs Benedict?" DJ asked. "I can do that little man. What kind of hash browns do you want?" I answered. "The McDonald's kind." He answered. I nodded. At midnight I walked Michael and Jeff out. Jeff and I watched as Michael drove off then continued our walk back to his condo. "So, dinner tomorrow night at the Prime Rib Loft," Jeff said. "It's a date." I smiled. "Do you want to do something after dinner?" He asked. "How about a movie," I suggested. Jeff smiled. "Sounds good," he said. "I had a great time tonight. Michael, your brothers, and sister are great people." I nodded. "Yeah they are." I agreed. "Well, here we are. This is my stop. Do you want to come up and see the place?" Jeff said. "Sure!" I said. I licked my lips as I watched Jeff's ass move under his shorts. `Damn! He's got a great ass,' I thought. "Do you work out Jeff?" I asked stupidly. Jeff looked back at me and grinned. "Yeah, I try to work out three times a week and run every day." He answered. "It shows," I said with a blush. Jeff unlocked the door to his place and ushered me in. "Wow, it's nicely decorated." I commented. "My mom helped me." He said. Jeff has a two bedroom condo. He's using the spare room as his home office. He's got a great home entertainment system with surround sound. The whole condo has a southwestern theme to it. Pillows with brown, turquoise, and coral on a tan couch and loveseat, he had a few cactuses on end tables, and some paintings of eagles and American Indians. With the tour of his condo over I wished him good night, wrapped him up in a hug, leaned in and kissed his cheek, and headed back to my place. To be continued...
