When You Least Expect It By: B J Chapter 9 Waking up to Jeff rubbing my chest was a great way to wake up. "Morning babe," Jeff said as he leaned down and kissed me. "Morning sweetie." I said. I was still tired from being at the restaurant late last night. Michael and I were helping out where we could to try and get the restaurant done. The remodeling fell behind schedule so we were trying to get it done as quickly as possible. We pushed back the grand opening to the weekend of my birthday. "Is Marcus up yet?" I asked. "It's only five o'clock." Jeff said. "I better make breakfast then." I said getting out of bed after kissing Jeff again. Jeff laughed. "I love you so much." Jeff said. I looked at him and grinned. "I love you too sweetie." I said. I started the coffee maker before making some waffle batter. I cut up some fruit as the waffle iron warmed up. "Jeff, Marcus, breakfast is ready." I called out. Jeff came out dressed for work as Marcus came out in his pajamas. "Morning kiddo," I said kissing the top of his head. "Morning," Marcus said grabbing a couple of waffles. "After school today you've got soccer practice." I reminded Marcus. "Yeah, Aunt Lupe is taking me and Marco." The little boy said. "Are you guys coming to watch?" "Of course we are." Jeff said. Marcus grinned. The three of us enjoyed breakfast. Jeff left shortly after breakfast as Marcus got ready for school. Gabby and Marco came over when they were ready for school. Lupe and I had an arrangement to where I dropped the kids off and she picked them up. I drove the kids to school, first Marco and Marcus, then Gabby. "I'll see you at practice kiddo." I said. "Okay CJ," Marcus said after hugging me. I smiled at him and watched them get out of the car. I stopped and picked up Starbuck's for everyone at the restaurant. Michael met me outside and helped me carry in the drinks. "Morning guys," I said to everyone. We got to work with spackling the walls and helping where they needed us. "Colin, you do know that I'm a gay man, right?" Michael asked. I laughed. "Yes," I replied. "Then why the hell am I working with my hands? My hands are soft and I like them that way. I don't jack off with lotion for nothing." He said. Everyone listening laughed. "Oh my God," I laughed. "So, why do you use lotion?" Hank, the foreman asked. "Because it keeps my cock feeling silky smooth as well as my hands," Michael answered. Everyone laughed. We were busy all morning long. "What are we doing for lunch?" Michael asked. "Jeff will be picking me up for lunch so you're all on your own." I said. "You bitch!" Michael laughed. "We've got a meeting with Mr. Rothschild." I said. "Oh! What's going on?" He said. "Jeff and I are looking into taking on Marcus permanently." I answered. "You're going to adopt him?" Michael said with a smile. "We want to," I said. "What do your parents think?" "They're all for it. Mom and Dad are excited as well as Kathy. They can't wait to meet Marcus." I said. "Are they coming up to meet him?" Michael asked. "They'll be here for my birthday and the grand opening." I replied. "Oh shit! Did you see Restaurant Digest?" Michael said excitedly. "We're in there. They mentioned us and the restaurant opening up." We stopped and took a look at the magazine. Michael and I were excited about it. Jeff showed up at noon and waited for me to clean up a bit. "So daddy, are you excited?" Michael asked Jeff as I walked out of the bathroom. Jeff laughed. "Calling me that is just not right." Jeff laughed. "I'm nervous and excited. I hope they allow us to adopt Marcus." I smiled. "You're both great guys. It would be stupid of them to not let you adopt him. Marcus is going to have a great life with two loving parents." Michael said. I hugged Michael from behind. "We have to go." I said. "What the fuck? Don't be getting all mushy on me bitch." He said. "I knew you were a softy." I laughed. Jeff grinned and stood up. We left and headed over to CPS and our meeting with Mr. Rothschild. "Hi guys," Mr. Rothschild said with his hand outstretched. We both shook his hand as we entered his office. The three of us talked about how things have been going and how Marcus has been adjusting. He told us that he met with Marcus at school this morning and that he also talked to a family court judge about our situation. "A majority of the family court judges do not want to let same sex couples adopt because they're afraid of the repercussions of what may happen when it comes time for re-election." Mr. Rothschild said. "Judge Newberry isn't one of them. He'd rather see a child in a good home with loving parents that are the same sex than in a home like Marcus and the other kids were in. He also knows that there is an untapped resource of foster and adoptive parents." Jeff and I nodded. "With that said, here is the petition for the two of you to become Marcus' adoptive parents. Take it to your lawyer and have him read it all over. Sign where he tells you and he'll send it on to the courts. The papers will go to Judge Newberry and we'll go from there." He finished. "Thank you for all of your help Mr. Rothschild." Jeff said standing up. "It was my pleasure Jeff. If we had more people like you and Colin the children would have a better chance at a good life." He said. After another round of handshakes Jeff and I left the CPS offices. "Let's go grab some lunch." Jeff said. "I'm starving." I said. "And don't forget Marcus has practice tonight." Jeff nodded. At lunch Jeff and I talked more about what we wanted. He called Frank Carson to see if he could take us on as clients or refer us to someone as reliable. Jeff explained our situation to him and he agreed to take us on. He was going to stop by the bank tomorrow and they could talk more. Things were looking up for us. "Are you going back to work?" Jeff asked. "I think I'll take the rest of the afternoon off. I'll go grocery shopping and get dinner started and take Marcus to practice." I answered. Jeff nodded. "I'll go back and see how busy they are. If they're not too busy then I'll cut out early and meet you at home before soccer practice and we can all go together." Jeff said. I laughed. "We're both becoming so domesticated." I said. Jeff laughed and agreed. He took me back to the restaurant. When we got there someone stood outside the door smoking as Michael stood there and glared at him as he held a hammer. Jeff got out of the car and walked around to open my door. The guy just watched us walk up to the restaurant. Michael looked at us and shook his head while rolling his eyes. "He thought he was going to be waiting in the restaurant." Michael sneered. "Hey baby, long time no see." The guy said. "What do you want Vince?" I said glaring at him. Jeff's eyes got wide. "Is that the way to greet your boyfriend?" Vince smiled. "We're not boyfriends. Maybe you should ask the slut you slept with." I snapped. Vince was about to say something when I cut him off. "Don't you dare try to put this on me, it's not my fault you couldn't keep your dick in your pants asshole." Vince laughed and got into my face. "It didn't mean anything baby," He said trying to hug me. "I don't care if it meant anything or not." I said. "I moved on to someone so much better." Vince backhanded me. As my head flew back, Jeff's fist flew forward. "Don't you fucking touch my boyfriend again," Jeff said through gritted teeth. "What made you think I'd ever take you back again? I made that mistake once. I'm never making that mistake again." I said. "I'm on the verge of losing our house." Vince said. I laughed. "That's not our house. That's your house. I had my name removed and paid three months of your mortgage. What have you done with your money?" I said. "And what do you think you were going to do? Come here and get money out of me?" "I was hoping you'd take me back." He said. I let out a loud laugh. "What the fuck are you smoking? I would never take you back and I'm not helping you. I did more than enough to help you." I said. Vince glared at me. "You still owe me." He said. "I don't owe you shit." I spat. A car drove up and a couple doors opened up. Vince's eyes got wide as he looked behind me. I turned around to see my brother and father glaring at Vince. I walked up and intercepted them. "What the fuck is that cheating asshole doing here?" Dad said. "I'm glad you're here Vince. I've been meaning to talk to you." AJ said. "Neither of you are going to do anything." I said firmly. "What the hell is doing here Ceej?" AJ asked me. "He thinks that I'd leave Jeff and go back to him." I said. AJ and Dad laughed. "I hope you told him you wouldn't." Dad said. I rolled my eyes. "No, I was in the process of breaking up with Jeff and buying me a plane ticket back to New York." I said sarcastically. "I wouldn't leave Jeff and go back to that asshole. I've got a great man, why would I settle for less?" Vince punched me in the back of my neck. I fell to the ground unconscious as Jeff and AJ grabbed him. I came to as a paramedic moved a small vial back and forth under my nose. "You're so lucky the police showed up asshole." AJ yelled. "What's going on?" I asked. "We were hoping you could tell us," an officer asked. I went over everything that happened up until now. "All the stories match except for Mr. Delgado." The other officer said. "I'm Detective Hastings and this is my partner Detective Rogers." An older gentleman said. "How is he?" Jeff asked walking up to the back of the ambulance. "He's awake and talking, but we still want to take him in and have a doctor look him over." The paramedic said. "What hospital?" He asked. "Sunrise," The paramedic answered. "And we'll be taking Mr. Delgado in." Detective Hastings said. "Do you want to press charges?" Detective Rogers asked. I nodded. "I'd also like a restraining order." I said. The detectives nodded and left with the officers and Vince. At the emergency room, I was seen right away. The doctor just made sure that I didn't have a concussion or neck injuries since I was punched in the neck. A couple hours later and we were on our way back to the condo. I was attacked by a crying eleven year old as Dad, AJ, and I walked through the door. "Are you okay?" He asked, his voice muffled by my shirt. I wrapped my arms around him. "I'm okay kiddo." I said rubbing his back. "You've got a couple people to meet." "I'm Grandpa Phil," Dad said. "And I'm Uncle AJ." My brother said. "Grandma Vicky and Aunt BJ were sad that they couldn't be here." Marcus smiled. He looked up at me as I cocked my head towards them. He got the message and moved over to hug them. I felt a little dizzy but headed to the kitchen to start dinner. I looked through the fridge. There were some steaks, potatoes, and ears of corn. "I picked up a few things before coming home. I figured I'd just grill up some steaks for all of us." Jeff said walking into the kitchen. He wrapped his arms around me and buried his face in my neck. "We have to get going to practice." I said. "No, we don't. I called Coach Gallegos and told him what's going on. Plus, Marcus didn't want to go after I told him what happened today." Jeff said. I nodded. "AJ and I are taking care of dinner. You go Lie down." I walked to the room with Marcus following me. "What's wrong kiddo?" I asked as I lay down. He followed suit and laid with his back to me. I wrapped my arm around him. "I was worried about you." He said softly. "I'm okay sweetie." I said. Marcus and I fell asleep with my arm wrapped around him. I woke up later but barely opened my eyes, seeing Jeff standing in the doorway watching me and Marcus. Dad walked up behind him. "The start of your family Jeff," He said. "Yeah and I'm so happy." Jeff said. I closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep as I listened to them. "I'm so proud of the two of you." Dad said. "Thank you Phil, that means a lot." Jeff said as he sniffled. "I'm glad you're here. I wanted to talk to you and Vicky." "Is everything okay?" Dad asked. "Everything's great, I just had a question for the two of you." Jeff said with a grin. To be continued...
