Eyes of Stone Here I was, 24, with a college education and a good job. Had some money in the bank and my own place, but still that wasn't enough. I didn't have the one thing that only mattered in life. I didn't have love. My family didn't love me. I had no friends, well at least no close friends. And the most important thing, I had no boyfriend. I had no one to go through life with. I had no one to wake up beside in the mornings and no one to take to bed at night. So there you have it, Sebastian Cade MacKenzie, a California Highway Patrol Officer, sitting in a local diner just outside San Francisco, trying to eat his breakfast. With no one special in his life. "Marie, can I have another cup of coffee please?" "Sure thing Cade, but you know that it ain't good for you." I just smiled at her when she said that. She told me the exact same thing to me every time I ordered coffee. She was a good looking woman with a good head on her shoulder. Too bad that her parents didn't have enough money to send her to school, 'cause I'm betting that she would fly through college like a breeze. And she had the looks to go with the body too. I mean, if I weren't gay then I probably would have ended up marrying her in the future. "Marie, can I have that coffee to go? I just remembered that I have to go in to the office this morning. The captain is gonna chew my head off if I'm late again." "Now we wouldn't want that to happen now would we?" Marie said with just a hint of a smile on her face. Standing up I pulled some cash out of my pocket to pay for the breakfast, but as usually Marie didn't accept them. She told me one day that it was good for her business to have me eating there. When I asked her why, she just told me that her guests felt safe when they saw that a Highway Patrol car was pulled up in front of the diner. That was her reason for never letting me pay for what I ate, but it never stopped me from trying. One of these day I would succeed in leaving money for the meal. I had tried to just leave some money on the table when I stood up and left, but the very next time I came to the diner she gave me back the money. It had almost become a game between me and her. But this was one game I would win. "Here you are sweetie!" Marie just flashed me a big smile when she handed me the cup of hot coffee. "See you later Marie!" With that I walked outside and was just about to step into the cruiser when I heard the engine sound of a car approaching . And fast by the sound of it. I turned around just in time to see a black car in high speed come out of the curve. The only thing I could do was to look at the car passing the diner. I jumped in to my car and fired up the engine. In less than a minute I was in pursuit if the car. This was not a good way to begin the day and it made me even later for the appointment with the captain. It didn't take long until I reached the speeding car, but it seemed like he didn't even notice me. And I even had the lights on and the sirens blasting. I called in and gave central the description of the car and in what direction we were heading. Finally the driver of the car noticed me and started to slow down and finally pulled over. I sat in my cruiser for a moment telling central that I would step out of my vehicle. I took a look at the car and started to admire it. A black BMW 740i with tinted windows. Man, it was good looking car. Wouldn't mind to have that car myself. I got out and pulled my gun out of the holster. A Beretta 92F Sport. A chrome plated 9mm semi automatic handgun. I made sure that the gun was pointed towards the car when I took cover behind my car door. Not that it would matter if there was a shoot out. A 9mm handgun would put a nice little hole straight through the door and then injure me. It wouldn't kill me, but I would be down and out for the rest of the week. "Driver, put both of your hands out the window where I can see them!" I saw that the driver did exactly what told him to do. I could see two hands stick out and I saw that the driver wasn't armed. "Now open the door and step out of the vehicle. SLOWLY!" The driver did what he was told to do yet again. "Turn your back against me and start to back towards me." Ok, it wasn't the smartest thing to do. Stop a car and order the driver to get out, but hey what should I do. I didn't have backup yet. And the car had tinted windows which made it impossible for me to see inside. The driver was almost at my door when I saw another Highway Patrol car pull up. It was the captain himself. As soon as he got out of the car he pulled his own gun and pointed it towards the driver. I then ordered the driver to lay face down. "Is there anybody else in the car?" I asked the driver and I wanted an answer but didn't get one. I made sure that the captain had a clear line of fire both towards the driver and the car before I holstered my own gun. "Put your hands behind your head." When the driver had done that I bent down and put a knee at the small of his back at the same time I put the cuffs around his right hand. Twisting it down behind his back I did the same to his left hand. When he was safely secured I pulled my gun once more and told the driver to stay down. The captain stood back as my backup while I started to walk towards the open door on the black BMW. I soon arrived and could see that there was no one else in the car. I put away my gun again and walked back to the driver, who was still face down beside my cruiser. Grabbing hold of the cuffed wrists I pulled him to his feet. I looked at him and tried to determine if he was a threat against me. Seeing that he probably wouldn't do any resistance I turned him around and started to pat him down in search of concealed weapons. Finding none, I pulled out his wallet just as the captain came up to me. He congratulated me on a perfect arrest, with just one minor fault. I started to order the driver out before I had backup. A big No No. I pulled out the drivers ID and his driver's license. Seeing that it was a Florida driver's license I asked him if every body was in a hurry down there. He just looked at me with he green eyes saying nothing. "Well, you made yourself guilty of quite a few violations this morning. You will probably loose your license and have to pay a fine. I don't think that you will go to jail for this but you never know." With that I saw a slight shift in his eyes. Prison. His reaction was interesting and I decided to check him out. I made sure that the captain was watching him before getting into my car. I pulled up his information on my computer that I had in my car, but the records came up clean. The only thing he had was two speeding tickets. Nothing more compromising. I stepped out of my car just in time to see my captain uncuff the drivers and making small talk to him. It took them about a minute to realize that I had returned with the drivers driver's license. "But captain, what are you doing?" "I'm letting him off with a warning MacKenzie." The captain calmly stated. "But why sir? I mean..." "Officer MacKenzie, I AM letting him go with a warning. Now give him his wallet and let him go." I just stood there with a surprised look on my face not knowing what to do. Do as my captain says and let him go, or follow the law and arrest him. "Officer MacKenzie, that is an order!" "Yes sir!" That was the only replay I had to the strange scene taking place in front of me. I mean, the captain would arrest his own mother for jaywalking if he had the chance. But here he's letting a total stranger of the hook. There has to be a good reason for it. I walked up to the driver and handed him his wallet and stared him directly in his eyes saying: "You better take your wallet and your fancy car and get the hell out of my face. Oh, and make sure that you follow the speed limit this time." The driver just looked me in the eyes for a few seconds. I could actually see the color shift in his eyes from pale green to an almost emerald green color. I was mesmerized. A small smile started to form on the drivers face. "I will do that Officer MacKenzie. Until next time." With that he was in his car and took off. I stood there and just looked at the disappearing car. I couldn't get his eyes out of my mind. I was brought back to reality by the captain telling me to get back to the station. He and I was to have a nice long talk. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I found myself at a bar in downtown San Francisco drinking beer and trying to have some fun. The last three weeks had been constant work for me. I had two days of in three weeks and now I had a week to do whatever I wanted so I decided that I should try to have some fun. I went to the same bar that I usually go to. I like the atmosphere there. People go to that bar to enjoy the music, to talk to others and to have some good times. It's not like some clubs where you can't hear yourself talking and the only reason you go is either to get drunk or find someone to fuck. In some cases both. I sat at the bar drinking my beer trying to listen to the music and to check out some guys. I must confess that there was a lot of nice looking guys there tonight. I mean the guy that just went passed me. He had this really interesting look. His clothes were a bit out of place here though. It looked more like he was heading to a club, but got stuck here instead. Not to mention the tattoos that were visible on his arms. I would never get a tattoo myself, but on him it looked good. The only thing about him I didn't like was his sunglasses. He had sunglasses on inside the bar. Stupid move. It is way too dark to have sunglasses on in a dark bar. And I couldn't see his eyes. Eyes. Green as emeralds would be perfect. Stop it!. Forget him. You don't even remember his name. Why the hell should you remember his eyes. It was three weeks ago you let him go. The only thing you know about him is his eyes and what kind of car he drives. A black BMW! "I'm telling you. It's him. It has to be. I mean I didn't see a lot of him since I had my back to him most of the time, but I swear It has to be him. If only....." "If only what?" The blond woman next to him asked. "If I could get closer to see his face. He had a small scar just above his right eye." The driver of the black BMW couldn't believe his eyes when he saw Sebastian walk through the front door. The only thing that had occupied his mind the last weeks was the Highway Patrol Officer that stopped him that morning. He was late to the studio and decided that he could afford to speed a little. There wasn't that much traffic on the road anyway. Everything had gone as planned until he passed that diner. He didn't see the patrol car standing in front of the diner but he soon became aware of it when he heard the sirens. The only thing he could do was to pull over and accept the ticket. He thought about using the fact that he was famous but decided against that. Looking in the rear view mirror he saw that the cop pulled his gun and pointed it towards the car. Seconds later he could hear the cops voice ordering him out of the car. He did what the cop said and soon another car joined them. The cop driving that car pulled his own gun as soon as he was out of the cruiser. It didn't take long until the driver found himself face down on the side of the road. He then saw how the cops slowly advanced on his car with their weapons drawn. As soon as they found out that he was alone the younger cop came up to him and pulled him to his feet. Turning him around and looking at him. As the cop turned him around he saw the eyes of the cop. Those eyes were the coldest eyes he'd ever seen. Gray and with absolutely no trace of happiness or joy in them. He soon was brought back to reality when he heard the cop mention prison. No way. Not a prison. He couldn't believe it. Being turned around again and patted down the officer took his wallet and checked his drivers license. Saying something about Florida drivers and then walking to his cruiser, probably to check up on him. While doing that the other cop took a good look at him and the driver saw the signs of recognition in the cops eyes. Maybe this wouldn't be that bad after all. "So you have an important appearance today or just joyriding?" the cop said with a smile. "Nah, not really just got a late start this morning. I should have been in the studio by now recording. That's why I was speeding. You see we are on a deadline and the album needs to get ready in time. Wouldn't want to disappoint our fans to much." He even cracked a smile when talking to the cop, who obviously was the superior officer to the other cop. "That wouldn't be good at all. Cause then I would have to very upset children at my house." The officer and him talked while the younger cop was in his cruiser trying to find any information on him. Then the older cop did something that surprised him. He took out his keys and uncuffed him, while telling him that he would let this slip by him just this once. The younger cop obviously didn't like that very much and he and his boss had a small argument about that. But the young cop had to let him go and gave the him back his wallet. MacKenzie. That was the name of the young policeman. As he was giving the driver the wallet he told him to get the hell out of there. As the driver took his wallet he looked to cop straight in the eyes and said: "I will do that Officer MacKenzie. Until next time." Whit that he got back to his car and drove to the studio. That was a couple of weeks ago but he still couldn't forget the eyes of face of the cop. Actually that was almost everything that he could think of. He knew that there was no way that he would actually see the cop again, but he could dream couldn't he. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When he was back from his little trip down memory lane, he could hear the woman ask one of his friends to walk by the guy at the bar to see if he had a small scar above his right eye. Before he could object his friend was halfway to the bar. "Why did you do that?" that was the only question he could think of looking at the woman. "We had to see if that was your mystery cop or somebody else. Now we just have to figure out what to do if it was." With that the woman turned to watch his friend passing by the man at the bar. He could see that the man looked at his friend when he went by but couldn't see if he recognized him. His friend walked up to the bartender and said something to him, then turned back to join them at the table. "Hey Jimmy. Can I have another beer?" The bartender just nodded and Sebastian pulled some money out of his pocket to pay for the beer. When Jimmy the Bartender gave him the beer and he tried to pay he was told that his bill was picked up already. "Who paid for my beer?" Sebastian just looked at the small group sitting in the back that Jimmy pointed out. Seeing that almost all of them was looking back at him he tried to figure out if he knew them but came up with nothing. He was positive that he had never met any of them before. He could see the man with the tattoos, sunglasses and club clothes in the group. He made up his mind and started to walk towards the group slowly. He was going to pay them for the beer. He didn't want anything for free. Reaching the group he pulled some cash put of his pants and threw it on the table. "I have no idea of how you are and I'm thankful for you offer, but I can't accept." He started to hear protests from the group but just shrugged them off. Just as he was to walk away a pair of eyes caught his attention. Shit. He couldn't help himself from staring into those eyes. About a minute passed as he stood there looking into those beautiful eyes. He then felt a hand touch his arm and pulled his gaze from the eyes down to where the hand was holding his arm. Tracing the arm he soon found out that it belonged to a beautiful young woman. He smiled when he saw that infectious smile on her face and he knew there and then that he would do whatever she said: When Kristin saw that she had his attention she started to talk. "Why don't you join us. You looked a bit lonely standing there all alone and since you have already met one of us we decided to ask you to come join us. The stunt with paying was a way for us to pay you back for all the trouble this shithead" she nodded towards the green-eyed man " caused you. He told us that your boss pulled rank on you." After that she flashed her smile at him again and that did it. He accepted the offer and sat down beside her. "My name is..." "Officer MacKenzie. We know." The guy with the sunglasses said. "...Sebastian. Bastian to my friends." Bastian finished. "Well it is nice to meet you Sebastian. I'm AJ." The sunglasses said. "This is Brian, Nick and Howie." He said pointing to the guys sitting next to him. Bastian shook hands with them and the shook hands with Kristin. She once more flashed her smile at him. "I'm Kristin." Damn, if I were straight I would fall for her immediately. "And I guess that you know ho this is." She said to him meaning the man next to her. "Actually no. The only think I remember about him is his car." And his eyes, but that comment never slipped past his tongue. The man stretched out his hand. Bastian took it and looked at him. "I'm Kevin." "Bastian." The two of them hold the handshake and just looked at each other. Hearing a small cough Bastian realized where he was a quickly let go of Kevin's hand. He could feel himself blushing as he turned his head to see who it was that coughed. Resting his eyes on Kristin's face he knew that he had been busted. He quickly turned away his eyes and felt his face getting more red by the seconds. Tbc... Ok, this was the first part of the story. I just wanted to post it here to see if I could capture your interest at all or if I should keep my stories to myself. Any response to this part is gladly accepted. Keep in mind though that English is not my native language, so any mistakes in spelling, grammar or in the construction of sentences, are just that, mistakes. I would though be glad if you informed me of those mistakes. Cya later! ArPo lunajulian@hotmail.com
