ANd also a HUGE wet sloppy thanks to SumSum for proofreading and the title 8) *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* " Hey Kulvinder, check this out" I called Kulvinder sped out of the kitchen to see Kent rocking in his wheelchair smiling and laughing. "What's wrong?" Kulvinder asked "Nothing' wrong" I replied, "Look at how he reacts to this song." Bye Bye Bye by *Nsync was on Much Music "I thought summat had happened" Kulvinder said in her heavy British accent Kulvinder is a co-worker of mine. She moved to Canada several years ago from Nottingham, England. She had an arranged marriage, which had been the main topic of conversation and the ice breaker between the two of us in our first couple of shifts together. We were both care givers for a group home company. Our province went through a major downsizing about 10 years ago. At that time severely handicapped people that had lived in a huge institution all of their lives were divided up and put into group homes of about 4 people each. My company was one such set of group homes. We took the highest of the medical needs patients. We are also one of the largest of these companies in the province with 13 group homes, 2 Adult day programs and a large in-home support network where our staff go into the parents homes to help care for the special needs child or give them some relief to do shopping, various chores or some much needed rest. " I wonder if he likes anymore of their music?" Kulvinder wondered " I have their new Celebrity CD in my car, should I go get it" I asked "You have a CD player in your car?" she looked astonished "Of course, doesn't everyone?" I asked, sarcastically "Only if you come from Powell River, and get new cars as Christmas presents." she laughed at me This was a constant topic at work. Everyone thought I was a spoiled rich kid. I grew up in Powell River which is like the unknown Beverly Hills of British Columbia. My mother is a surgeon, my father is the CEO of a multi-national corporation, my uncle is a politician, my other uncle is the top criminal attorney in town, my sister is a beauty queen, her twin is a music teacher in Russia. Then there is me, Krystofyr, twin of Nicolae. I have spent the last couple of years unsuccessfully trying to find myself. "I'll be right back." I promised I ran out to my new Mercedes 600SL Convertible, which is the Christmas present that Kulvinder was talking about. I unarmed and unlocked the car and grabbed the CD. When I got back into the house I put Celebrity in the stereo and pressed play. As Pop started to blast out of the speakers, Kent's smile got bigger. Lise, another client of ours, wheeled herself out of her bedroom and rolled over to me with a big smile on her face. "Krys, can we bake some cookies?" she asked carefully "If you give me the biggest smile that you have, then I will help you bake some cookies" I replied happily "Buffy called and asked that if you make cookies could you please please please bake Neiman- Marcus cookies because they are her favorite and you are the only one that knows how to make them" "Okay sure," I said "we can do that for Buffy right Lise" "Right" she answered with a big smile on her face. As Lise and I made cookies I kept an eye on Kent as he listened to the latest *Nsync release and he just got happier and happier. One of the rewards of my job, in fact I would say the biggest reward of my job, is seeing the clients happy. "You will have to tell Surinder to buy Kent a couple of their albums for him to listen to" I suggested Surinder is Kulvinder's sister and Kent's primary caregiver. A primary caregiver is responsible for all of the clients shopping and major paperwork. "That is a good idea." Kulvinder said "I will suggest it to her tonight when I get home from work" I was humming the tune of Gone as I walked through the door that connected the garage to the rest of the house. "Kristina called" Crystal yelled from the computer room "She said to call her back as soon as you get in it's apparently important" Crystal is my housemate and a good friend. We had grown up together, went to school together and our parents are next door neighbors in Powell River. We work at the same company but I have been there about a year an a half longer than her. Kristina is one of my two best friends. And the founding member of the adults 12 year old club. Kristina is the president of the club. We decided it was a club when we both realized that we loved things that 12 yea olds did, like *Nsync, Buffy, Smallville and all sorts of other things. Kristina is also from Powell River. Her father owns a real estate company as well as several other businesses and properties. Last time we counted it was something like 41 properties that she stood to inherit. She would be the sole inheritor because we both knew that her sister Jeanne , sorry Victoria now, would not want the responsibility. Kristina (Steena for short) is a student at the University of Northern British Columbia working on her Bachelors degree in English. I go to Dalhousie University in Halifax, working on my Masters degree in International Law. I took my Bachelors in International Relations with a minor in Political Science. "Hey" I said into the phone "Hey, how are you?" the familiar voice on the other end of the phone always responded "Not bad, just got home from work, you?" "You are always just getting home from work" "I can't help it if I am the only person in the free world who likes his job" I stated "Hey my Dad likes his job, you don't know" Steena said "Your Dad gets paid to be retired" "La la la, hey guess what?" "What" I asked "Guess who is coming to Vancouver?" Kristina quizzed excitedly "*NSYNC!!!!!" "So I am guessing that you will be either flying or driving in for that weekend." "I will fly in and then steal your car for the time that I am there." "I love how you just assume that you can steal my house, my car and basically my life whenever you choose." I laughed "You can keep your job because of my aversion to goo, besides as your twin it is my divine right." Kristina is 24, 2 years older than I am, but because of looks, upbringing and similar interests we are virtually the same person in 2 separate bodies. We always joked about being each others twin. The only difference is that Kristina is German and I am Russian. However, we both have red hair, she has blue eyes and I have chameleon eyes that change colour according to my mood and the altitude where I am. They change from blue to green to violet to grey. The other major difference between Kristina and I is height. I am 6'2" and she is about 5'4". "So do you want me to call in and pre-book the tickets on my credit card?" I asked "Iffen ya wanna." she replied We both laughed at the use of the back woods hick slang that her father often used jokingly.
