I'm back!!!!! It's been a while, I know. And I apologize! I was installing a burner, and by some fluke accident, something unrelated broke. To make a long story short, I ended up having to buy a new computer, and it's taking forever to collect what I had before this mishap. But I've managed to spend some time writing chapter 5! I hope you all aren't toooo mad at me :'( But if it makes you feel any better....I don't plan on anything breaking again anytime soon LOL ;) Here it is...Chapter 5

Light In The Ashes
Chapter 5

Kevin looked at me with concern in his eyes. He could probably see how deeply this was affecting me, even though I wasn't showing it. I don't know whether I should cry, or yell and scream at James' bf.

"Hey.." Kevin said.

"Hm?" I looked at him.

"You ok?" he asked.

"I'll be fine. This is just all overwhelming, that's all. You know, just when things start to go right, this happens." I answered him.

"I know. I have to get back to the hotel. I can just take a taxi. Promise to call me later?" he said giving me a sympathetic look.

"I promise." I half smiled.

"Ok. I'll talk to you later." he gave me a hug and a small kiss on the cheek, and walked off.

I just stood there thinking for a minute. I watched as Kevin disappeared down the hall, and I headed back into James' room. Heather was sitting there waiting for me. From the look on her face, and James' bf's face, it was obvious not a word was said between the 2.

"Where'd Kevin go?" Heather asked looking around.

"He had to go." I said sitting down beside her.

"Ah. Well the doctor came in while you were out, and he said that James should wake up some time soon." she said.

"Oh? That's good. We'll wait around for that, and then we'll head out and come back tomorrow." I said looking at James' bf out of the corner of my eye, who was still at his side holding his hand.

A good hour passed.

"James??" his bf asked standing up rather quickly, "James honey it's me. Come on sweetie. You can do it. Open your eyes."

I stood up and walked over to the bed. Heather followed me. James started to slowly open his eyes.

"J...Jo..sh.." he groggily said.

"Yes honey it's me. I'm ok." Josh said as he began to cry. Apparently out of relief.

James turned his eyes to me.

"What are you doing here Rick?" he asked confused.

"Well...I came to see if you were alright." I said with an expressionless face.

"Me too." Heather blurted out.

"See me for wh.....ahhh ow..." He started to say before he jerked with pain.

"James sweetie calm down. You can't move yet. You're hurt really bad.." Josh said.

"What do you mean hurt.." he cringed a bit.

"Don't you remember James? That drunk guy hit us head on." Josh said tears forming at the corners of his eyes.

"Oh..yes..I remember. How bad is it?" James asked beginning to doze off again.

He passed out before Josh could reply.

"Well. We're gonna get going. Tell James we'll be back tomorrow." I said to Josh.

He nodded and we left.

We got into my car and headed towards Heather's place.

"So. What's up with you and Kevin?" Heather asked hesitently.

"Do you really think this is the time Heather?" I asked her.

"Yeah...you're right. I'm sorry." she said.

I pulled into her driveway and gave her a hug.

"I call you later ok hon?" I said.

"Ok." she smiled and got out.

I made my way down the street, and pulled into my driveway. I just sat in my car for a bit.

Eventually I got out and headed inside. I poured myself a drink, and sat on the couch.

I decided that I should prolly call Kevin.

"Hello?" a voice said on the other end of the phone.

"Hey there. Is Kevin around?" I asked politely.

"Yup. Hold on a sec. Is this Rick?" the voice asked.

"Uh...er..yes it is.." I was confused.

"Oh hehehe." I heard the person giggling, and then someone grabbing the phone.

"Rick?" Kevin's voice sounding aggitated.

"Yeah it's me." I chuckled, "What was that all about?"

"OH heh. That was just AJ being a jerk. That's all. How you doing?" he asked his tone changing to a concerned one.

"Yeah..I'm ok. I kind of don't want to be locked up here all night though. Is there any chance of you slipping away for dinner?" I asked hopefully.

"Um...hold on lemme see." I heard him mumbling. He must have had his hand over the phone.

"Sure..That sounds good, but is it alright if AJ comes along? I'm kind of stuck with him tonight." Kevin came back.

"Uh...sure that's not prob. I was planning on asking Heather to join us anyway. Is that ok?" I asked.

"That's fine. When should we expect you?" he asked.

"Half hour." I said, "I'll see you soon ok?"

"Yup. Sounds good. See you in a bit hon." and we hung up.

I was just about to dial Heather's number, when I realized that Kevin had just called me hon. I smiled a bit. It sounded cute..and totally unexpected. In dialed Heather's number, and demanded she come out to dinner with us. She of course, couldn't refuse an offer to dinner that included 2 members of the Backstreet Boys.

About 45 minutes later, the 4 of us were sitting in a half decent restaurant. We were seated, and endulged in idle conversation.

"So AJ, what was that all about on the phone?" I asked smiling. AJ's face turned red.

"Um..eh..nothing. I was just trying to be nutty." he tried for a save.

"Really? I could have swore you were chuckling when I told you who I was. What's Kevin been saying about me?" my smile grew even bigger.

"Uh..yeah..Kevin said something funny just before I answered the phone." AJ said as he tried for a save again.

"Oh. I see." I decided to drop it and looked over at Kevin who was blushing and smiled. He smiled back.

We continued to eat, and we all chatted about anything and everything.  I noticed that AJ and Heather were having a little conversation of my own, so I turned to Kevin.  I found him smiling at me.

"What?" I looked on my shirt to see if I had spilled anything on myself.

"Ha ha.  You didn't spill anything.   I was just looking that's all.  Was just admiring you." He smiled again.

"Oh hehe.  And?" I grinned.

"And what?" he looked confused.

"Well you were staring at me!  Do you like what you see?" I teased.

"Very much so." he grinned as well.

Just then AJ and Heather burst into a loud laughter.

"Ok that was just way corny!" Heather continued to laugh really hard.

"Oh shush up." I scowled at her.

Once we were done eating, we left.  I drove Heather home, and headed towards the hotel.  Kevin opened the door and he and AJ got out.

"Have a good night Rick.  It was nice meeting you!" AJ giggled as he walked towards the doors.

"You too!" I shouted after him.

"Feel like a drive?" Kevin asked as he was still standing out of the car.

"Drive?  To?" I asked confused.

"Just a little drive that's all." he grinned.

"Hmm...sure." I got out and handed him the keys.  He got into the drivers seat, and I sat in the passangers.

"So where we going?" I asked kind of amused, knowing that he doesn't know how to get around in this city.

"Well.  I have a little suprise." he grinned.  With that, we drove off.

I must admit, he looked like he knew where he was going.  The sad part is, **I* didn't know where he was going.  I frantically looked around and noticed that we were close to the outskirts of the city.

We eventually came up upon a small forest.   Kevin pulled off to a small driveway that led into the forest.  Inside, there was a small parking lot.  There weren't any cars there.  I have to admit, I was a bit freaked out.  Apparently Kevin noticed this, because he tapped me on the shoulder.

"It's ok.  I found this place the other day.  Thought it would be nice to just come here in the peace and quiet and chat.  Nothing more." He smiled warmly.

I smiled back, "So what do you want to talk about?"

"I don't know.  Just stuff I guess.   I want to get to know you." he trailed off.

"I see.  Don't you know enough about me already?" I smirked.

"Well.  Not really." he had a wide grin on his face.

"Oh?  What is it that you don't know, that you'd like to know?" I teased.

"This.." he said as he leaned in and kissed me.  This time, I let him finish.  And I really enjoyed it.

We sat there in the near dark car and kissed for what seemed like an eternity.  His tongue entered my mouth, and explored it like a settler who had just found a new country.  It was amazing.  After a few moments, we stopped.  We just sat there staring into each other's eyes.

"Hmm..." he was apparently thinking to himself.  He was completely expressionless.

"What?" I said getting a bit worried.

"I do believe...you are the best kisser I've met Rick!" he laughed.

I blushed.

I kissed him on the cheek, "I think we should get going.  I have to go to the hospital tomorrow."

That was the last thing I wanted to come out of my mouth, but it had to be said.  My ex was still in very bad shape in the hospital.  As much as I hated James, I would have never wished this upon him.

Kevin looked down, "I know."

He started the car, and we headed towards the hotel.  Nothing was said the entire ride.

We pulled up to the hotel and before Kevin could get out of the car, I grabbed him and kissed him deeply.

"I'll see you tomorrow Kevin." I smiled.

"Thank you." he said.

"For what?" I asked.

"For being you." he smiled and got out.
