Although I must give a shout out to Isa for a great idea in this part. Thanks Isa. Now to everyone else, I worked a little bit harder on this part than I have in the past, but I still left a few things out. After all we can't spill the entire story right now...can we? But anyway this is where the ride gets bumpy and I just know you'll enjoy it. Once again if you have anything you want to say good or bad, I'll take it and think it over and maybe I'll change future storylines if I like any ideas presented. Unlike other authors I am not a strict and unable to be contacted. Imagine me as just one of your friends that you know will tell you everything you need to know gossip included lol. Music Shatters Ice Music Shatters Ice - Part 13 - Game Misconduct Sitting in a rental car heading towards Jace's home, Chris and James were conversing. "I don't understand why we had to come all this way. I have been asking ever since we left and you still refuse to tell me." "You want to know why? Its because I don't think he's the same guy that I left. Something has happened to him and I want to find out what this woman did." "What she did? Lance you're already condemning her before she has had a chance to defend herself." "From what I heard she is not someone that I want hanging around my boyfriend." "If she was dangerous, do you really think that he would be hanging around with her." "I don't know maybe she has done something to him to make him see things differently." "Ok, you know what I think now Lance? I think you have finally lost your mind. You have so many excuses ready on why to hate or dislike her that you're thinking up everything you possibly can." "Yeah well, my mind won't be at rest until I find out what is going on." * * * Sitting in the kitchen area looking out the window, I heard Venus come over to me. "Something is wrong." She said setting down a cup of tea on the table. "Yeah, I know. I felt it too." "What is it?" She asked. "I don't know but it sure is depressing." "And strong." "Yeah I felt that as well. But I want to talk about something else." "What?" "Sometime this coming weekend, I'm going to take off." "One of your excursions?" "Yep. I feel that I have to stretch my muscles. They're getting stiff with no action." "I could guess that. How long has it been?" "Ah only a few months. But that'll change shortly." "I'm sure it will. Anything in particular." "Not yet. But I'm leaning towards something in Africa or Asia. Not sure though. Could end up going to Europe. Europe is my second home it seems." "You have enough stuff from there." "True, but you'll never find it." "Mainly because I care not to look for all of it." "Eh well you were always a spoil sport." "Nah, me no way. I'm just always busy." "Yeah, I know. But you know I'll keep in touch." "As always?" "As always." She repeated back and went into the living room. * * * We had been sitting in the living room watching old movies, when Venus went to get something to drink. "Can you bring me some water? Nah forget it. I don't want it anymore." I got up to make sure she heard me when I heard a knock at the door. I hopped around the couch and bounded towards the door. I unlocked it and opened up. "James? Chris? What are you doing here? I thought you are bouncing around the states right now?" I asked still watching them on the porch. "Yeah, well Lance here just couldn't restrain himself." "I want to know the entire story about Venus and I want to know now." James said pushing himself into the house past me, and into the living room. "If you wanted to know about me all you had to do was ask. No need to get your panties in a twist." Venus commented flowing out of the kitchen to where James was sitting. "Um Jace do you have anything to eat. I'm kind of starving." Chris said beelining towards the kitchen. "Yeah whatever you can find you can eat." I hollered back. I turned to James who seemed to be seething with Venus so nearby. "James. Calm down." I said stroking his hair back as I watched it bouce back up. "Now how long of time do you have to that we can explain everything? And why are you so angry." "Only a day then I'm off to Bangor, Maine for a week to a week and a half, depending on how fast we evaluate a sound system. And I'm angry because of this thing or whatever you call this type of slut." "Think we can explain everything tonight?" I asked Venus. "If they stay up for a while, I think everything about me can be explained before tomorrow morning. If I can find some masking tape for his mouth it will be pleasurable for me as well." She said sitting down on the floor relaxing. "Forgive me if I fall asleep while you're explaining," Chris said, "This was for Lance's benefit, not mine." "So do you want to rest a little before we explain? I mean it is night, eight to be exact." I asked James. "I'm not sure. I'm a little tired and I have a little headache." "You want to go to bed?" I asked. "No, I want this explained." "Sure, but let me get you something for that headache." I commented. Quickly I brought back some aleve and water. "Here you go. Shove it down and we'll begin." He swallowed and looked at us. "I think that's our cue?" Venus questioned. "Well everyone get relaxed its going to be a while." I said while stretching out on the couch motioned for James to come over. He seemed a little reluctant as his mind was probably on Venus. Eventually, James came and sat at the other end of the couch and stretched himself out as well crossing over onto me. * * * "Our story begins a long long time ago, in a place far far away." Venus began. "Save the dramatics, Venus." I said. "Alright, alright. I guess my story begins when I was born. I was born to Martha and Erik Lascher of Vien. A small town in Mexico. Unfortunately my mother didn't survive my birth so I mostly grew up with my father. My father taught me all the survival skills that I needed. But probably the most important was a piece of advice he gave me once. He told me to keep my eyes open, for sometimes we just don't know what's out there. His time with me was still limited by his working many hours in a shoe store. The nanny I had when I was younger didn't care about me. I remember she was with the family until I was five years old. All she was there for was to make sure that I didn't kill myself, because then she wouldn't have a job. Before my schooling ever began, my father sent me to live with my cousin. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but my cousin was five years older than me and had her own friends to hang out with so once again I was left alone. When I started my education, I began to meet new people and gain new friends. I remember having alot of fun, but eventually the fun ran out. They began to indulge themselves in more educational matters leaving me behind. I never could understand more and more learning. I just could never understand. Yeah I did finish high school, but that's where it ended for me. While all my old friends were studying, I was out during the nights watching everyone and just paying attention overall to what was happening beneath the surface of the town. It was amazing. There was another world I have never seen before. I never realized that I had been so sheltered before. I embraced the new life and took to it. I found new friends again. But these friends taught me how to survive the night. How to avoid everything from the common townsfolk to the police that watched for oddities during the night. I became a creature of the night and I surpassed all my new friends expectations. I was elevated to the position of leader and we became a force to be rekoned with. It was fun though stealing from some, which is mainly what we did. We didn't murder or anything like that. All we did was secure equality within the town. If you think about it another way, we kept the money circulating in the town instead of like only a select portion having control of the town. The police had me several times, but I never gave them my real name and they only knew me by my street name, Venus Von Trapp. The funniest thing about my name is that everyone spelled the last name either one way or another either Trapp with no 'e' or Trappe with the 'e.' But I didn't mind. The stuff I really loved to get my hands on were all the high fashion stuff which included dresses, shoes, jewelry, and sometimes lingerie. Everything that could help me get an advantage." Venus looked over to James. From her viewpoint I knew that his eyes were opening and closing ready to pass out. Chris had already gone to bed. "Perhaps the story of our meeting can wait until another day." I told Venus. "Yeah I guess you're right. His high running of emotions overtook him." "I see that." I said watching James sleeping against the couch end. "Are you going to put him to bed?" "Of course. Did you actually think I was going to leave him there?" "No. Just wanted to see your reaction." I walked over and put James over my shoulder, "Venus?" "Yes." "Would you do me a favor?" "Sure." "Would you go out with James to breakfast? Get to know each other a bit. I want the both of you to trust each other." "Jace, I already trust him. But if you want him to trust me, sure I'll go out with him. We will have a nice woman to woman talk." She said giggling. "Just don't tell him what you have stolen. You may be an international thief, but I don't think he is ready for the big picture of your escapades just yet." "Ok." * * * "It feels awkward." I said to Coach Roberts. "What? Me being at the helm again?" He said laughing. "No its not that. Its just that I tried my best to have an unblemished record, but I failed in my task." "You did the best that you could do. And from what I heard, there was nothing you could do about some of it." Coach was writing down something on paper then continued talking. "Plus, I'm proud to know that after I retire there'll be someone that can take over and hopefully do better than I did." "You're replacement?" "Yes, and you're about to find out that it is alot closer than you realize." "What do you mean?" "It is possible that before the end of the season, you could be the new permanent head coach." "I don't understand. Why?" "Jace, I have been here many years. And during this year, I seem to have lost the spirit. I feel its time for new youth to take over. I look into your eyes during the game and I see the anticipation, the anger, the willingness to do whatever it takes, and the spirit. The same spirit that I used to have. Jace, face it you are the evolution. You're intelligent and you are ready to take over as you have proven. All I'm waiting for right now is the right time to say good-bye." "Those are strong words." "Yes, but we have no time to talk about them. We have a game to get to." * * * Two periods had gone by rather quickly and I was losing patience. I could count up over thirty shots on goal for us on their goaltender, but only two had gone in. With ours letting only one in. With how well we have been playing the score should at least be four to one, and that one score I would like to have a replay of. Standing on the bench I watched the players from both teams skate around the ice. I went over to one of the refs before the third period began. "I don't want to discuss the goal but I do want to discuss how it was that it was not called down before it went in." Before I could continue talking one of the Army players came over, I recognized him as being the one that scored. "You don't have to complain. We all know you got as high as you did by whining, but really its not good for you." "Well I'm sorry. But its not my or my teams fault that this is the first goal your team has scored in its first six games. Some would call that a bad coach, I just call it bad players. Including yourself." For some reason the Army player lost it and came after me swinging. The ref tried to hold back the player but was shoved out of the way. I saw a couple of my players coming over to help me, but the player had already started to attack me and was swinging wildly. I tried to back up, but fell over the bench where he continued to come at me... * * * (Third-Person, Narrative) While the game was still going on at the arena Dean and Zelda had been in the waiting room waiting for the doctor to come back with the x-rays and any other information he had. "Good evening. Zelda and Dean? Am I correct?" A man in his late forties said entering the room and holding up a clipboard. "Yes. I am Zelda and this is Dean." "I am Doctor Carmichael." Flipping a page of his clipboard, "I have the x-ray tests." He glanced up at the two to see if they were listening. "Jace has several broken bones in his face, a broken rib, and a hairline fracture in his collarbone or clavical to be exact. We have also determined that he has sustained a moderate concussion. He is going to be taken into surgery shortly and we are going to try and take care of everything at once. The most important break we are worried about right now is the broken rib. From where it is angled it has a possiblity that it could puncture one of his lungs. Right now I have the nursing staff preparing him." "Is there anyway to know what time surgery will conclude?" Doctor Carmichael said nothing for a while, "At minimum, very minimum I can say five hours. That's hoping we don't have any difficulties. Now if you excuse me I must be getting back to him. Please if you want, you may stay here or leave, either way we will let you know when it is done." "Thank you doctor." Dean replied as the doctor turned to leave. Zelda stood up, "Dean why don't you get back to the arena and let everyone know what has happened." She looked at her watch. "When you get back the game should be over. Tell Roberts if he wants to say anything call me." "Sure thing Zelda." Zelda and Dean walked out of the waiting room and towards the exit. "Where are you going?" Dean asked. "I'm just heading outside to make a few phone calls." Dean understood and left her there at the front double doors. Unholstering Jace's phone from her belt, she started dialing. She redialed a new number when she found that her parents phone was busy. The new number rang several times. "Please pick up." She whispered. "Hello?" "Hi Justin, its Zelda." "Well hiya Zelda what have you been up to? Hey I thought there was a game on tonight there?" "It should be ending now, but Jace is here with me at the hospital." "Why is he there?" "There's been an accident and Jace is going into surgery in a few moments." "What happened?" "I'll explain later since I have other calls to make, but I can tell you real quick that the doctor said he has a broken collarbone, a busted rib, several broken bones in the face and has a moderate concussion. Please tell Lance. I gotta go." Zelda hung up the phone immediately to make more calls. The next one she knew she dreaded for she didn't know how to do it. Again she dialed and heard the phone ring. "Hello?" A grumbly voice came through. "Is this the Athletics Director?" Zelda asked, all she knew was his first name of Ron, but she wasn't going to call him by his first name. "Yes may I ask who's calling?" "This is Zelda Taylor, Jace's sister." "Ay yes, what may I do for you?" "I'm just making a quick call to let you in on Jace. There's been an accident and he's in the hospital right now undergoing surgery." "What is happening? I mean, what's broke or what's happening." "Dean the manager could explain it better than I could of what happened. But as for right now I can tell you that he has a broken rib, broken collarbone, his face needs reconstructive surgery, and he has suffered a moderate concussion." "Well Zelda thank you for calling. This was certainly an eye-opener." Zelda said her goodbye and hung up. * * * In a suite...Bangor, Maine. Justin had gathered everyone around in the main living area. "So what's the point of calling us all together?" Chris asked impatiently, "I have some family calls I want to make." "Yeah, and I want to find out what was the score on Jace's game." Lance said. Immeidiately the color drained away from Justin's face. "That's what I wanted to talk to you about. It's about Jace. I just received a call from Zelda." Justin felt bad for having to tell everyone about this when they seemed to be in a pleasant mood. "Would you tell us already what is going on?" Joey said starting to head to the small kitchenette area. "Jace has been in an accident. From the way Zelda was talking he's going to need surgery, but otherwise his situation is not extremely severe. He's just well, broken." "Broken? What do you mean broken?" Lance asked frantically. "What happened, tell me." "I don't really know what happened. Zelda hung up before she could tell me. But she did tell me that he had several breaks in his collar, face, and rib. Oh and a moderate concussion, whatever that is." "So what do we do now?" JC asked. "I don't know." Lance said staring off into another part of the room. * * * Back at the hospital... "Doctor blood pressure is dropping!" The nurse shouted out of the doorway. He came running into the room, looking at the monitor, "Heartbeat slowing." * * * Arena... "...is currently in the hospital and being taken care of. Can you confirm this?" A reporter asked Coach Roberts as he was exiting the locker room for the start of the third period. "I know nothing at this time. However, I expect to know shortly enough." "Thank you coach." The reporter said and stood out of the way of the team coming out. "Coach! Coach!" Dean screamed coming back into the arena walkway. Running up to Coach, "I have a report on Jace." The reporter leaned in and listened intently. * * * In the upper mezzanine of the arena... A woman wearing black and crimson sits and watches the "Jace, I believe my time has come to take my leave. But I shall return. Returning in a blaze of glory, we shall both return. Soon, very soon." Standing up she walked down from the rafters, down the stairs and out the exit. "Take care of him James, our time has not come yet." She said as the door slammed shut. * * * Back in Bangor, Maine... "JC will you turn off that news and come join us." Chris asked. "I need something to keep my mind occupied. And I'm sorry but CNN and MSNBC does it for me." Chris just stared at him. "Fine I'm coming, but I'm not turning it off." '...Brown reporting from Central Michigan University...' The TV belted out. Five faces were immediately captured to watching. '...campus arena where a melee has broken out on the ice during the hockey game between Central Michigan and the United States Army. This happened three minutes into the third when both teams couldn't stand it any longer and started to attack each other. This anger started to build during the second period when a member of the Army team assulted Assistant Coach Jace Taylor. The coach is reportedly in the hospital and is undergoing surgery as we speak...' At that point Lance completely fell apart, speechless and unable to take his eyes from the television. JC had decided that it was time, they had seen enough. He grabbed the remote and turned off the television. "Justin can you take Lance back to his room?" JC said. "Sure." While Justin took Lance out. The three that were left began to converse. "That was a bit unexpected." Joey said. "So what do we do?" JC asked. "I say we quickly finish our business here and then take a one day swing over to Central Michigan to see what is going on." Chris said. "I agree." Joey said, "But." "But what?" Chris asked. "I'm not sure that Lance should come with us." Joey said. "I see what you mean. It could finish him off." Chris came back with. JC interrupted, "If we don't bring him along, he'll be more likely to finish you two off for not letting him come." Chris understood, "The question then changes which would do Lance more harm? Letting him come with us and seeing his boyfriend pretty much destroyed or keeping him behind and letting his imagination run wild?" "I say we vote." Joey voiced. "Vote on what?" Justin asked coming back into the room. >>>>>>>>>>>>> That's all for Part 13. Drop me a line. naupres@yahoo.com
