SUMMER 2000-A VACATION HOUSE IN LONDON, ENGLAND.... THE MUSIC'S READY. THE ALCOHOL BOTTLES STOCKED UP. THE PARTY WILL BE STARTING SOON...AND IT WOULD LAST THE WHOLE SUMMER. THIS IS A STORY ABOUT NICK AND COMPANY, AND THE PROBLEMS HE HAS BROUGHT WITH HIM, AND THE PROBLEMS THEY HAVE BROUGHT TO HIM. Jess Addamson took one look at Brad. And the beer bottle he casually carried. 'Hey hotsie. Where's everyone?' As usual, he was 'guarding the old fort', a Friday night wasted drinking/ smoking / sniffing himself to death while watching TV in the huge lounge room, waiting for someone to come home early. He grabbed her and kissed her on the cheek, obviously drunk 'Your brod's gone to Marley's. Os went with Tiff and Nick's taking over Matt's bedroom .' He said casually. Jess stopped on her tracks. 'run that by me again.' 'Nick.' Brad grinned goofishly. Nick....he suddenly pops into her life again after what? Two years? And no one told her he was coming as well. 'bullshit.' The doorbell rang. Brad went to open it again. 'That would be Nick.' Taker of her V, they lasted long. Amidst the concerts, the heavy schedule, they lasted long. Jessica didn't know whether to laugh or cry. 'You're joking.' she said steadily. 'See for yourself.' He called over his shoulder. 'no thanks.' She muttered, but found herself starting to walk towards the front door. And there was Nick. His face was tanned, his hair spiked short and stylish glasses framed his almond-set eyes. He bent to pick up one of his Louis Vuitton bags- and that's when she noticed the faint outline of a worked-up bicep. He looked so different. So matured, so hot, so unlike the boy she left two summers ago at Heathrow Airport. 'Hey Nick.' Brad picked up one of his suitcases. 'Hey Brad.' He replied, his voice deeper after two years. Life is full of fuckin' surprises, Jessica thought. She stood there hugging the door. Nick looked up and caught her eye. 'Jessica.' He nodded, entered the room and walked past her without so much of a sideward glance. They lasted two years and this is how he greets her? Two years, they shared everything. They shared the world, their lives, their toothbrush. Bastard arrogant prick, Jessica thought, hurrying towards her room to get ready. Will showed up at the door ten minutes later. He entered the house with his key and collided with Nick, who was going outside for another suitcase he forgot. 'I'm sorry.' Nick said. will smiled. 'Apology accepted....Is Jessica here?' 'Yes, she's upstairs. Would you like me to call her?' 'If that's possible please. My name's Will.' Will gave him the once-over before snobbing him off. Something clicked inside Nick's head. Two years ago, she was with Will. SHE WAS WITH FUCKIN WILL! 'Will. Have we met before?' 'I'm sorry. I didn't quite got your name.' Will said dryly. 'Nick.' He offered his hand 'Enchante.' 'Hey Wills.' Jess entered the lounge room, her stilettos making strange prick points in the thick carpet. Her brown highlighted hair was set up in a casual French twist and her makeup perfect. She stood up tall, confident with the aura she shared to other people. Her perfect eyebrow arched, she gave Nick a once-over before snobbing him off.She was absolutely breathtaking. Nick found himself checking her out in her very tight jeans and top, a jacket casually strewn over her shoulders. Wills pecked Jess on the cheek. 'Ready?' 'Almost.' She hooked her arm around his. And walked out of the lounge. She turned back to take a look at Nick. He was still staring. 'Ciao.' Jay said coldly, before leaving him alone. 'So what's' the story behind the gang?' Nick asked over the 3 bottles of beer they've consumed each. 'The usual. Same old boring people.' Nick drank to that. 'Os?' 'He's moving back home pretty soon.. . lives with...Tiff ...is a newcomer. Charles is still a prick. Right now he's out partying and that's what he usually does every night. You don't usually see him around the house. He'd rise up after sunset, like a vampire, and go out for the whole night. Stupid hard goer, he is.' Brad drank some more. 'And Jess...' Nick leaned forward. '...is still the same sweet girl. She's changed since her father remarried and she's more moody than your average teen. Funny, it's been almost two and a half years now till we left the U.S. for this kind of life.' Nick made some strange guttural noise and pulled out a piece of tissue paper from his mouth. 'Sorry.' He said when Brad gave him a weird look. 'Go on.' 'She'd be drinking Tequila Sunrise at Rainbow Bitch Bar, surrounded by high-class snobs and bodyguards.' 'Any lovers?' he asked. Nick wanted to ask this question for more than a year now. HE should've kept in touch. Brad started to laugh. 'Am I considered a lover?' 'Oh no...You didn't...Did you....?' 'We were too drunk to care...let alone remember. It happened to us once.' Nick was beet red. His Jess. Frustrated or embarrassed, Brad couldn't tell. 'Or maybe twice.' They drank some more, letting the minutes pass by. 'Do you...love her?' Brad snorted. 'Course, I do. But not that type you teeny bopper singers sing about.' 'Because I did.' Nick said quietly. 'So? We all did.' 'And now she's got a man.' 'And you've got a woman...Emily?' 'Her guy...Farlon?' 'Farlon? My God is that even called a man? He cheats on her -she knows- but they're still together.' 'And Wills? That Wills guy?' 'Girlfriend.' Brad said bluntly. ' You know.' Jessica opened the front door to find a pissed Nick on the carpet. Brad was nowhere to be found. 'BRA-AAAD.' She called. She was a bit tipsy herself and she wanted Brad to make her coffee like usual. 'Brad's passed out.' Came a muffled reply form the carpet. 'Oh? Can you make me some coffee?' 'Why don't you do it yourself?' 'Because Brad usually does' 'You fucking spoiled brat.' 'Shut up and choke on your vomit.' 'Thanks for the advice.' 'It's called a comeback.' She nudged his body with a stiletto. 'Get up.' Jay ordered. He got up reluctantly and gave her the biggest greasy. 'What was that for?' she snapped' 'You fucking PMSing bitch.' 'Ego-maniac. You think you're so good,' 'Maybe I am.' 'Maybe you're just plain sad.' She completely changed the subject. 'Why'd you end up here in the first place?' 'Because I wanna be with my friends.' She snorted. 'What friends?' 'And my girlfriend...' 'Don't start.' Jay added quickly, getting cut. He let out a small laugh. 'You think it was you?' 'No.' she said slowly. 'Emily Tihther. From Leeds.' Around this time, they were standing nose to nose. 'C'mon, I'll get us some coffee.' Nick finally said, leading the way. 'So who's this Emily girl huh?' Jessica asked over coffee at La Scala's. It was around 6 am the next morning. Nick had bundled up the car with blankets so that they can drive to La Scala's without freezing their asses off on Brad's humbly old Toyota Camry. La Scala doesn't open until seven thirty in the morning but since they were the most frequent customers... 'You'll meet her soon.' Nick winked at Brad from across the table. 'Was that the person you were just talking to a while ago?' 'I guess it was.' Brad answered for Nick. 'You called her down to La Scala this early? Was she awake?' 'She was out partying. Like you.' Nick said dryly. 'Am so glad she's got a life.' she muttered sarcastically. Bill(inda), the maitre d' , came over to give them some muffins he baked himself. His father owned a chain of La Scala restaurants across the country, and he was given a measly job as a maitre d' after dropping out university to be with his boyfriend Mardy. 'Jess, honey. You hafty to tell us about Rainbow last night. I heardy you went with Wills. What's this? You've been down at Rainbow with him for the 3rd timey this month, honey.' Billinda said in his high-pitched voice. 'Oh. And I lovey your dress. It's not Morgan DT, is it?' 'No, Billy. I bought it down the flea market.' She answered, and Billinda laughed shrilly, mingling with Jess's chuckles. Obviously sharing some private joke. Women, Brad thought. Women and fucking poofs, Nick thought. He didn't notice the two silky arms that enveloped him from behind. 'hey you.' Emily's voice was thick as honey and slurred by too-many joints. 'Emily!' Nick pulled her down to a chair. Wills and Jess hated her at first glance. She was dressed in a mini skirt and a bright blue kerchief top. Her blonde curls were short and bouncy, her eyes green and dull with the effects of pot. She was pretty, all right. But not pretty enough to be accepted by Billi and Jessica's requirements. 'Nice attachment.' Billi said, his face bitter. 'Yeah. Nice.' Jess said too. Brad gave them a stern look despite his hangover. Billi ignored him because he looked so haggard. It could've been different if he was dressed in his usual D&G polo shirts and Ray Bans. He just looked so bad in those baggy Calvin K. shirts 'Em: Billi, Brad and Jess.' 'Hi!' Em piped up. 'How are yah guys?' Too friendly, too casual. Ugh, too plain. Too common. Jess thought. No-class bitch. Billi thought. Middle-class leech. And pot in clubs? Puh-lease. I want her in brunette. Brad was thinking. 'Can I get you anything?' Billi got up to serve them. 'I just want some hot chocolate. With lotsa marshmallows.' Billi disappeared behind the counter. 'So how was Rainbow Bitch Club again last night?' Sal, the bartender asked grudgingly. His shift ended about two hours ago, but he was still hanging around the restaurant. He did the usual kisses moi routine to Jess and she answered the usual. 'The usual.' She said. 'Did you see Madrita?' Sal asked of his ex Spanish girlfriend. Jess made a shriek. 'YES. She broke a mirror and cut herself.' Brad rolled his hazel eyes and groaned to himself. 'How many stitches?' Sal was rather delighted. 'Eight down her calf, honey. Isn't that wonderful?' Sal gave her a peck and reached for his bag. 'You just made my day. I'm audi.' He turned around to the other people in the group. 'Ciao.' His eyes rested on Emily and he grinned. Nick held Em's hand protectively. Jess gave Sal a dirty look and his grin turned to a sneer. He left the restaurant. 'Rainbow Bitch Club? I always wanted to go there. Bouncers say it's always full.' 'Not if you have a VIP card, Emily.' Jess said, and she wanted to add: and your outfit has to cost at least 200 bucks to get in. But she didn't want to impose that her outfit was too... 'You're Jessica Addamson.' Em finally clicked it. 'Nick, you didn't tell me this.' She wailed Jess took a sip from her cup and hmmmmedd 'It wasn't important.' 'What do you mean not important? She graces the social pages and you live with her. And , oh my god. You're Brad .' Emily said in a high tone. She was all excited now. Brad smiled. Great, an adoring fan. Jess thought. There were a few minutes of silence and when Jess and Brad looked up from their cups, the two were necking. They exchanged looks. Nick's hand was under her top, groping what was to be groped. They were locked in a mad frenzy of kissing and 'handling' each other. Jess lit a ciggy, flicking on the Zippo loudly. That didn't stop Em from rubbing her hand against Nick's hard-on. Brad was smiling. He was obviously enjoying Jess' frantic stares at the couple, perhaps jealous but definitely annoyed. She was scarlet pink and he could see that through the thin web of smoke around her. She looked...like an angel. A very pissed off angel. 'Here's your HOT CHOCOLATE.' Wills said a little to loudly, finally breaking up the two. 'Thanks.' Emily replied, settling herself. Nick pulled down his shirt to hide his bulge. He caught Jessica's eye. And gave her a killer smile. She was pissed off now. She smirked back. 'So emily. Where'd you just come from?' Wills asked. 'Psyx.' She said. The club wasn't in competition with Rainbow. It was down the CBD. 'You frequently get picked up by street dealers? Psyx isn't exactly the best place to meet someone , you know what I mean.' She said slowly, ready to attack her. Brad knew where she was coming from. He changed the subject AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. 'Hey, why dont you come down the house and spend the day with us? It's no Big Day Out but at least you have the bedroom ready in case you and Nick want to....sleep. We could play pool or whatever.' 'Sounds fun!' Em said, clinging on to Nick's arm. Jess and Billi rolled their eyes. ----end part 1----SUMMER 2000-------- I'll try to keep the chapters going. I hope you like my crap. -tammy_000@hotmail.com
