Disclaimer: I don't know Jake Gyllenhaal, nor do I claim to know him, his sexuality, relationship status or the colour of his socks. This work is fiction. Chapter 27: The next morning Chris woke up in his usual position, located within Jakes warm, spooning embrace. As usual, Jake was not willing to let Chris out of his arms without a fight. "Jake, I need to pee." Chris moaned, as he finally broke free. He then padded his way quickly into the bathroom. Laughing at the hurried pace of Chris, Jake commented softly, "Too much information there." Washing his hands, Chris then headed back to the bed and kissed his lover before arranging himself in a forking position with Jake. A while later Chris woke up once again, this time he was alone in the bed. Pulling himself out, he padded his way back into the bathroom to try to find his man. "You in here?" Chris commented as he stuck his head around the corner. Unable to find Jake, Chris pulled on a shirt from Jakes wardrobe along with a pair of jeans. Although Jakes mother was aware that he had spent the night, he wasn't about to go wandering about the house in his underwear. Slowly padding his way down the stairs, Chris admired the three diamonds on his ring, glistening in the sunlight. As he reached the bottom of the stairs, he continued to look around as he headed into the kitchen. Passing through the door, he suddenly encountered Naomi, who was rinsing her coffee cup under the tap. "Good morning Chris," Naomi commented as she walked over and gently kissed him on the cheek. Chris panicked for a moment before smiling nervously, "Good morning Mrs. Gyllenhaal." "Please, call me Naomi..." She responded. Chris looked around, "Okay, Good morning Naomi. Have you seen Jake?" Naomi shook her head, "No, I think he went out on his bike. I don't know how long he will be, but I have a favor to ask of you..." "What is it?" Chris asked, genuinely confused. He had an idea in his head that she was going to ask him to leave her son alone, but decided to bite his tongue until he found out for sure. "My flight leaves soon, and unless Jake gets back within the next five minutes, I need to get to the airport." Chris breathed a sigh of relief. He was sure Naomi was going to tell him to leave. Realizing he still hadn't given a response, he spoke up. "Sure, if you don't mind my crazy driving." He then quickly grabbed a glass of water, "Which airport?" *** *** *** *** *** Free wheeling into his driveway, Jake jumped off the seat and opened the side gate, allowing him to pass through. Walking with the bike up the driveway, Jake noticed Chris' car was gone. "That's strange," Jake commented as he put the bike away and made himself back into the house. Closing the front door behind him, Jake called out, "Mom? Chris? You here?" He then noticed a small post-it note on the back of the door. Walking up to it so he could read it, Jake read it aloud, "Jake, I took your mum to the airport, she said she will call you tonight. I'll be home soon, Love Chris." Jake smiled nervously as he thought of his mom and Chris alone together. However, as there wasn't anything he could do about it, he decided to head upstairs and wash the sweat off his body. Throwing the cycling outfit into a separate laundry basket to his normal clothes, Jake then padded his way towards the shower and turned the jet of water on. After removing his ring from his finger, Jake then jumped under the water. Lathering his body with suds, Jake removed all traces of sweat and dirt from his body before eventually turning the water off and stepping out of the shower to grab a towel. Once dry, Jake then hung the towel up before padding naked towards the wardrobe. Unsure whether he would be going out that day, Jake pulled on a pair of shorts, a pair of old jeans and a plain t-shirt. He then disappeared back into the bedroom and neatly folded Chris' sweater, placing it back in the box. "Right," Jake muttered to himself, "Now what...." Thinking about what to do while he waited, he then padded his way back downstairs and pulled the dishes and utensils out of the dishwasher. Once he was finished putting everything away, Jake glanced over at the clock before looking down at his dog, which was milling around his feet. "Where could he be?" Jake asked, not expecting a response. He then padded his way into the living room and took a seat. Grabbing the TV remote, Jake switched it on and began surfing through the different channels. As per usual, he was immediately drawn to a cooking show. He stared blankly at the screen for about an hour before he finally heard the sound of a diesel engine pulling up in the driveway. Standing up, Jake padded his way over to the entry and sat down on the steps. He waited for a few minutes before the door finally began to unlock. "I'm back!" Chris yelled as he pushed the door open. He then spotted Jake sitting on the doorstep. "Oh, there you are." Immediately jumping up, Jake bounced over to Chris and kissed him passionately. "I wondered where you two had gone." "Sorry.." Chris whispered, "Your mum needed to get to the airport and you were still out being a gym bunny." He then ran his hands down Jakes back and rested them on the firm buttocks. "She had a little word with me when we were in the car." "Oh?" Jake commented as he waddled with Chris towards the living room. "What about?" He asked as he took Chris' hand and examined the ring. "It really suits you." Chris smiled and flopped down, straddling Jakes body and kissed his Adams Apple. "She was checking to see if I was serious about you." Jake laughed from the feeling of Chris' tongue on his neck. "And what did you say?" He asked. "Well," Chris continued as he stroked Jakes nose. "I said I was completely serious about you. There's no one I would rather be with." "Awww..." Jake replied before Chris suddenly jumped up. "Shit!" Chris exclaimed. "I left something in the car." He then bolted towards the door, "Hold that thought." Jake laughed, "Okay......" Chris burst out the front door and ran down to the car, after unlocking the doors he grabbed the two Starbucks containers before closing the door and heading back up the stairs to the door. "Where did you go?" Jake asked as he began to stand up. Chris smiled as he came into view, "Forgot these!" He then held out the cup for Jake, "Thought you might want coffee." "Thanks, you're so sweet." Jake commented as he took the cup from Chris' warm hand. He then looked over at the cup Chris was drinking from, "I thought you didn't drink coffee?" Shaking his head as he took another sip, Chris explained, "Chai Tea. I'm addicted to it." *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** **** *** *** *** *** **** **** **** **** **** The shrill tone emanating from the alarm clock suddenly woke the boys. Fumbling around on the bedside table, Chris managed to shut the alarm off before looking over at Jake with one eye open. "Mornin'...." He mumbled as he was quickly pulled onto Jakes warm body. Lifting his head slightly so he could slip his tongue inside Chris' mouth, Jake gently ran his hands down Chris' naked body and gently grabbed his lovers' buttocks. "Morning to you too." He then looked down to see at least one part of Chris was wide awake. He smirked and looked at Chris' groin, "And good morning to you too." Chris both sighed and blushed as enjoyed the feeling of Jakes soft hands massaging his rear end. Leaning down to kiss his man once more, he whispered, "I hate this. I have to get up, or I will be late." Pushing Chris off his body Jake slowly got to his feet, wrapped his arms around Chris' waist and then waddled with his man towards the bathroom. "You'll be fine, and I will be home when you get back." "You're going home?" Chris asked, slightly dejected at the notion of coming home to an empty apartment. He pushed the door open and turned the shower on. Jake kissed Chris behind the ear and laughed, "No, silly." He then pulled Chris tighter, "Home is wherever you are. So that means here." Chris smiled and managed to squeak out an, "Aww" before pulling Jake into the shower with him. The sun was only just beginning to creep above the hills by the time the boys had finished in the shower. After drying their bodies off, the couple then headed into the wardrobe, where Jake pulled on a t-shirt and a pair of jeans before watching Chris properly dress himself. "I hate ties!" Chris moaned as he sleepily tried to do up the tie. "I can never get them right, and I probably won't need it." Grabbing Chris' hands, Jake carefully pulled them away before leaning in to kiss his boyfriend. Making sure Chris' hands were free, Jake then set to fixing the tie. "Trust me, you will be fine. And you look amazing, as always." "You're sweet." Chris cooed as Jake finished grooming him. He then grabbed a pair of shoes and headed into the living room of the apartment. Jake followed close behind before diverting towards the kitchen. "You hungry?" Chris shook his head, "No not really." "You should eat something," Jake commented as he pulled the fridge door open. "Sit down and I'll make you something." "Urgh," Chris moaned as he took a seat. "As long as it isn't anything heavy." A few minutes later, Jake appeared at the table with a bowl with a nondescript white sludge with a few strawberries on top. "It doesn't look like much," Jake conceded. "But it's good, trust me." "What the hell is it?" Chris asked as he picked a spoonful up and watched it slide back into the white blob. "Greek yoghurt and strawberries." Jake commented as he took a seat opposite Chris and lightly touched his hand. "And you like this?" Chris again, asked as he grabbed another spoonful, this time bringing it closer to his mouth. Jake nodded, "Yeah, it's good for you." He then smiled as he watched Chris' timid expression. "Just stick it in and swallow." "Oh not now, I'm trying to eat this thing you got me for breakfast..." Chris joked. He finally stuck the spoon in his mouth and swallowed the contents. "It's alright.... Not great, but not horrible." Jake immediately stuck his tongue out at Chris, "Ungrateful bitch." "Nah, it's good." Chris commented, trying to apologize for his comment. "I usually can't eat at this time of day, but I can stomach this." He then finished shoveling the food down his throat before looking over at the clock and pouted, "I'd better go." "Okay, have a good day cutie." Jake replied as he watched Chris jump out of the dining chair. Chris quickly darted around to Jakes side of the table and leaned down to kiss his man quickly, "I love you, see you later." "Love you too," Jake replied. "Have a good day." Walking towards the door, Chris quickly shouted out, "Don't forget to lock up if you go out." He then smiled and headed out the front door. Closing the door behind him, Chris then made his way down the stairs to the parking lot. As he was leaving fairly early, there were no others wandering the grounds of the apartment building. Entering the garage, Chris strutted towards his car and unlocked the doors. Jumping behind the wheel, he switched his iPod onto his usual musical selection before pressing the start button, putting the car into reverse and pulling out of the parking space. Slamming the gear stick into Drive, Chris slowly navigated his way towards the garage doors. Once open, he then pulled out into the street and headed towards his new office. It took a little over an hour for Chris to arrive at the new lab. As he was unsure of where to park, he pulled up in a parking spot on the street before jumping out and locking the doors. Tentatively, Chris made his way to the large doors and waited for them to hiss open. Once they had, he slowly made his way to the reception desk. "Can I help you sir?" The young woman asked. Clearing his throat, Chris finally spoke up, "Hi, I'm Chris, part of the crime lab." Immediately the woman stood up, "Follow me, I'll show you to your office." Following the woman behind a dirty wall, Chris was lead through several corridors before he was finally greeted with his temporary office. "Here you go." The woman stated. "If you want to get settled, our manager will be with you shortly to discuss some things with you." "Thanks," Chris replied as the woman quickly disappeared. He looked around the office. He'd never seen so much cheap furniture in his life. The desk looked like it had been there since the 1970s. The office chair wasn't much better, with the edges frayed and the cushion beginning to expose itself from under the cloth cover. He then looked at the computer that was sitting on the desk. Like everything else in the building, it was completely tired and dirty. He didn't want to sit down, the first thing he wanted to do was give the place a good clean and make it look slightly personal. "Crap!" Chris exclaimed as he suddenly remembered he had left his box of belongings sitting on the floor of his apartment. Unable to leave the office and go back home, Chris instead made it his task to clean the desk while he waited for the new boss to show up. Making his way around to the chair, he pulled it out before he wriggled the mouse, waiting for the screen to slowly load. "Pretty depressing isn't it?" Lana asked as she entered the office. She had yellow glow to her, thanks to the light filtering through the tattered Venetian blinds. Chris smiled as he spotted her, "It reminds me of well, I don't know." He then stood up again, "I guess we took our lab for granted." *** **** **** ************************* *** * ** * * **** **** ** * * * * * * * * Jake had been having a fun day playfully snooping through Chris' house. He knew Chris wouldn't mind, as he wasn't snooping for anything in particular. Padding his way into the office, Jake smiled as he surveyed the bookshelves. On it were a few novels he was familiar with, some he wasn't and some he intended to read. There were also a couple of play scripts on the shelf along with the obligatory textbooks. "What's this?" Jake commented to himself as he pulled a small spiral bound book off the shelf. Flicking the book open, he glanced at the various autopsy images. Feeling slightly nauseous from the sight, Jake exclaimed, "Oh shit that's awful!" He then closed the book and shoved it back into its spot on the shelf. He then decided to have a look through Chris' wardrobe, trying to find Chris' perfect outfit. Sorting through the expanse of racks, he found several tops he figured Chris would look adorable in, the grabbed his favorite and threw it over his shoulder before diverting his attention to the racks of pants and jeans. Finding a pair of dark brown pants, Jake added them to his shoulder before he noticed a shoebox sticking out from the shelf above his head. "I really shouldn't," Jake whispered to himself as he reached up and quickly grabbed the box before lifting the lid. Inside was a reasonably sized collection of photographs. Jake smiled as he saw a photo of Chris with a confused expression in the middle of some European plaza. Heading out to the bedroom, Jake threw the clothes onto the bed before sitting down and flicking through the images. Flicking through the various images of Chris and Danny caused Jake to smile stupidly as he admired the man he loved in various goofy and romantic poses. Jake then suddenly spotted an image that appealed to him. He smiled as he pulled the picture out and admired the photograph of Chris, standing in front of a street sign for Bond Street. Jake chuckled as he noticed the James Bond style pose Chris was adopting in the image. Quickly whipping his wallet out, Jake slipped the image into the photograph area before closing it and slipping it back into his pocket. He then replaced all the images and closed the box. Padding his way out of the bedroom, Jake wandered around for a few minutes before he noticed the box of Chris' belongings sitting on the floor. "Did he want to leave those here?" Jake asked, looking over at Boo Radley and Fergus, who were both lying on the couch. Grabbing his phone off the coffee table, Jake searched for Chris' number and waited for the call to connect. "Hey Jake, what's up?" Jake smiled, "How did you know it was me?" He then suddenly realized how Chris knew. "You're calling from your mobile, fool. What's wrong?" "Oh nothing really," Jake conceded. He mainly wanted to call Chris to see how his day was, "I just noticed you left your stuff here." "Yeah I know. I forgot to grab it this morning. It's really horrible here." Sitting down on the armrest of the couch, Jake lifted his right foot onto his knee and gently played with this big toe. "Are you there for the rest of the day?" "You're just looking for an excuse to see me, aren't you?" Chris joked. Jake sighed, "Maybe. I need to go out, it would be fun to see you, but if you're busy, that's okay." He continued to play with his toe as he continued, "Are you having fun?" "No," Chris conceded. "I really want to go home. It sucks because I want to be near you, and I'm stuck in this fleapit." He was silent for a moment before continuing, "I'd better go, the new boss is here." "Okay, I will see you later then." Jake replied. He smiled before continuing, "I love you." "I love you too." Chris responded. "See you later." Jake then ended the call and slipped the phone into his pocket. He then padded his way back into Chris' wardrobe and grabbed a pair of his shoes. After pulling them on, he then grabbed his keys, along with Chris' box of belongings before heading towards the door. --- 28 Soon --- Well, not really a cliffhanger, is it? I don't think it is.
