I could only hope that I would soon find out exactly what this meant for Adam and I. Did it mean that we would look at trying to have a relationship, or was this simply him being a comforting friend. Only time would tell. --------------------------------------------------- I awoke to the feeling of movement of someone getting out of my bed. I opened my eyes slightly only to be blinded by the sunlight streaming in through the window. I had to get some blinds I thought to myself. I suddenly felt alone and I shivered as a wall of cold air hit my now exposed back. I rolled onto my back to see where the person who moments ago was snuggled up next to me had gone to. My eyes locked onto a naked torso that had stopped and turned around at the doorway to my room. I could get used to that sight I silently said to myself as my eyes scanned what stood before me. Adam had a fairly slim build, resembled that of a swimmers build, with the beginnings of some good definition. He also had a faint V, which led your eyes down to the final destination, that I found extremely sexy. The only hair present on his torso was a faint treasure trail leading from his naval down beneath his black boxer briefs. Basically what was standing before me was a major turn on and exactly the type of body I was attracted to. I was snapped from my sudden day dream as I registered words being spoken to me. "Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you" Adam said, giving me a faint smile, before disappearing into the bath room, I presumed to have a shower. Looking over at the alarm clock I decided it was probably time to get up anyway as I did have a uni class as well as work that day. After dragging myself out of bed, I made myself a coffee and settled down on the couch watching one of the morning television shows. A fair amount of time passed before Adam came out of the bathroom. I pushed aside any thoughts of what he could have been up to. I was having a hard enough time keeping my thoughts and hormones under control without adding more fuel to the fire. I had awoken in the middle of the night and found myself just enjoying being held by Adam. It felt right, I felt safe. After debating with myself in my mind, I had given up trying to deny that I didn't want him. That fact was set in stone. I was no longer satisfied with just friendship. I wanted and needed to be more then friends with him. After experiencing the warmth and contentment of being held in his arms I knew I had to risk possibly screwing up our friendship in the hope of there being something more. Now all I had to do was figure out how I could find out if he shared the same feelings. "You feeling okay today?" Adam queried as he sat down on the couch next to me. Rather close might I add. "Yeah, I'm feeling good" I answered while not being able to stop a slight smile from appearing on my face as my mind thought back again about last night. After a moment of silence Adam spoke, "I want you to know that I am here for you Ben, whenever you need anything, or just someone to talk to". While saying this he had placed one of his hands on top of my hand. I looked away from the TV down at his hand and then looked up at him. "Thanks." I said while briefly staring into his soft hazel eyes before I looked away blushing. I thought I heard him stifle a giggle which made me blush even more. We passed the next hour with small talk before we made our way to campus for our class. "You ready for this?" Adam jokingly asked as we passed through the auditorium doors. "Yeah, I wonder how many will visit slumber land this week." "I guess half" "Damn, I forgot my pillow" I said with a serious face, as we took our normal seats at the back of the auditorium. This received a small chuckle from Adam. His laugh was so adorable. Our first lecture of the week was a notorious snooze fest. The lecturer has the personality of a brick wall and their voice just droned on and on. It was as if they were oblivious to everyone falling asleep. Adam and I preoccupied ourselves by observing the sleeping habits of our fellow classmates. "So have you got work this afternoon?" Adam asked as we were finally freed from the auditorium. "Yeah I do. Cafeteria?" He nodded his response. "Do you want to go out somewhere for dinner tonight?" he asked out of the blue as we continued to make our way to the cafeteria. "Sure, who else with?" "Umm... I was thinking we could just go somewhere." He said rather nervously. `Was he nervous asking me that?' I thought to myself. Was he kind of asking me on a date? No, don't be stupid, don't over think it, I told myself. "Sure, that sounds good". "Cool" Adam said with a smile spreading across his face. We made our way into the cafeteria, grabbed some lunch and found Kel and Dean all ready there at a table. "Hey guys" I said as we both sat down at the table across from the other two. "Hey" the pair of them replied in unison. Dean must of noticed the smile on Adam's and my face's as once he had made sure Adam wasn't looking and was focused on talking with Kel, he gave me a questioning look and nodded towards Adam. I just smiled and shook my head and continued to eat. Dean got up and made his way around the table to sit beside me. "What's happened?" he whispered so Adam and Kel couldn't hear. "Nothing's happened" I replied, trying to not have this conversation with Adam sitting so close and possibly overhearing us. "Well what's with McGrin??" Dean continued to probe. "I don't know, has been like that since I agreed to go to dinner" "Oh really?" "Yeah..." "I think someone really likes you, and I think he's secretly asking you out" "You really think?" "Yes and yes" "I'm not too sure, I don't want to get raised hopes" "Whatever, do you know where he's taking you on your `date'" "No I don't know where we are going on our `non date'" "I bet its somewhere romantic haha" "Shut up!" At this Dean laughed and I blushed which caused Adam and Kel to look over at us with questioning looks. "And I'm out of here" Dean said getting up to leave. "Catch you guys later" he said to Adam and Kel, "and I'll call you later Ben" he said adding a wink only I could see. After I finished eating my lunch it was my turn to leave so I farewelled Kel and Adam, getting crushed in a hug by Kel in the progress. I told Adam I would see him at home after work. I also wished I could give him a hug goodbye. Maybe one day. Soon hopefully. --------------------------------------------------- Adam's POV --------------------------------------------------- I awoke to a warm presence in my arms. It took me a few seconds to remember where I was and that it was Ben in my arms. Oh, how I had longed for this moment. Ever since I laid eyes on him that day at the bar I knew I wanted to be with him, and here he is in my arms. It may not have been under the ideal circumstances but here he was none the less. I decided to savour the moment, gripping and pulling him in tighter against me. Feeling his warmth against my chest, breathing in his scent. It was intoxicating and had me floating on cloud nine. I regretfully decided I had to get out of bed and start getting ready for the day. Oh how I could have stayed there with him the whole day. I carefully extracted myself from him and slowly got out of his bed, trying not to wake him. I clearly failed as as I approached the doorway I heard movement behind me. Turning around I laid eyes on a naked torso. Drifting my eyes up I locked eyes with him looking back at me. I had to get out of there quickly before I did anything rash. It was becoming increasingly difficult to control myself around him. I wanted to be with him so bad. I apologised and said I didn't mean to wake him and quickly left the room and headed into the bathroom. I needed to have a shower to try and clear my mind so I could focus during the class we had that morning. Standing under the jets of the shower I soon found I wasn't having much luck. All of my thoughts were of Ben, of me with Ben, of him in my arms. All of the thoughts were causing an all too familiar reaction. With soap in one hand, both hands began to explore my naked torso slowly making their way down covering every inch in soap suds. I couldn't stop my hands from reaching what so badly wanted release as my mind raced with thoughts of Ben. --------------------------------------------------- After finishing in the shower making sure I cleaned up after myself I made my way out into the lounge. Sitting down next to Ben I asked him how he was. He did look at peace but a lot of people are extremely good at hiding how they are truly feeling. It seemed Ben was one of these people. The whole time I have known him I wouldn't have guessed he had been through something so tragic and heartbreaking. All I wanted to do was comfort him, hold him tight so he knew he wasn't alone. I had to make sure he knew I was definitely here for him. I took a deep breath to calm the nerves I get every time I'm around him alone. "I want you to know that I am here for you Ben, whenever you need anything, or just someone to talk to" I said to him while bravely placing my hand on top of his. It was soft and warm. He turned his attention away from the TV and looked down at my hand before looking up into my eyes for the second time today. His hazel eyes were gorgeous, I could look into them forever. His eyes were definitely the window into his soul and true feelings. After a few long seconds he uttered a thanks before turning back to the TV with blushing cheeks. I had to stifle a giggle. I had made him blush! He must of still heard me as he blushed even more. He was rather cute when he blushed. He seemed to be fine also with me touching him as he hadn't moved his hand from under mine. That was a positive sign. --------------------------------------------------- Leaving the auditorium later that day, I was still trying to figure out how to tell him how I feel. I had decided to ask him out to dinner. To him it would probably be just dinner with a friend, but to me it would be like I was on a date with him. I just wanted to spend more time alone with him and perhaps the opportune time would present itself. Although we lived under the same roof we really hadn't spent that much time alone together. While walking to the cafeteria I built up the courage to ask him out to dinner. His response was what I thought it would be. He had asked who else would be going, without knowing that I was sort of secretly asking him out on a date. I nervously replied saying I was thinking that just the two of us could go out somewhere, scared of what he might think or say. To my relief he said it sounded good, at which I couldn't hide or get rid of the smile of happiness as we made our way into the cafeteria. Kel didn't miss it either. As soon as both Ben and Dean had left she turned to grilling me as to what had happened. I told her it wasn't anything she was thinking and that Ben had just agreed to go to dinner. I didn't mention anything about last night as I didn't want to spill what Ben had opened up to me about. If and when he wanted Kel to know, he would be the one to tell her. Kel was as excited as I was with that news. She knew that to me it was like going on a date with him. The rest of the afternoon I spent with the over excited Kellie. She knew about me and she knew about the feelings I had for Ben. She cornered me after the first time I saw Ben. She claimed she could see it in my eyes. Since then she had been trying to get me to tell him how I feel. It was supposed to happen at the party but Isaac screwed that plan up. I don't' know what his deal was or what he was doing. He was straight! Well as least I thought he was. Back at home Kel was fussing over trying to find the right outfit for me to wear. "Kel, it's not an actual date you know" "Shoosh" she hissed at me. "You need to look good and you clearly need my help with that." Eventually she finally settled on an outfit. "Here, try this on." Kel said while handing me the clothes. "Well do you mind leaving the room?" "Oh come on Adam. I have seen your scrawny ass before. Now strip or I'll do it for you!" I quickly stripped and pulled on the clothes she had picked out. I had to admit she is good at putting outfits together. "Perfect." Kel said and then disappeared from my room. After changing back into my original clothes I found her in Ben's room rummaging through his closet. "Kel, what are you doing? You can't be in here!" "Oh calm down. I'm simply picking out something for him to wear. The pair of you won't be able to resist the other." She said while poking her tongue out and then diving back into the closet. "Kel..." I whined. "Quite!" she barked at me. "Just hurry up before he gets home okay." I said and left the room to watch some TV to try and calm the nerves. "Okay, I'll leave so you can get ready for your date." Kel said coming out into the lounge. "It's not a date." I said glaring at her. "Yeah, yeah, whatever you say. Be both know it is to you." She said while coming and standing in front of me. "Now you call me as soon as you can and let me know how it goes, okay?" I nodded my response. "Good. I'll talk to you later." She said while giving me a kiss on the check and leaving. Once she had left I went for another shower and got dressed in the clothes she had picked out. --------------------------------------------------- Ben's POV --------------------------------------------------- Making my way home from work I was becoming nervous about dinner. It's not like it was going to be an actual date but I was still nervous. Despite being nervous I was rushing to get home as I was running late leaving work. Arriving home I found Adam in the kitchen. "Hey, sorry I'm late. Work was really busy." I apologised. "That's okay" he said looking up at me. "You're not spoiling your appetite are you?" I said trying to look serious. "Haha, no, just cleaning up." He really looked hot tonight. He had his hair gelled, had on a pair of faded jeans that hugged him nicely, along with a nice button up shirt. "Speaking of which, you should go shower and get cleaned up." Walking into my room I was a little confused as to why there were clothes laid out on my bed. `What the' I thought to myself. Walking back out of my room I went to ask Adam what was the go when he said "The clothes are not my doing." "Kel?" I asked. He nodded. "Does she think this is a date tonight?" I asked jokingly. Wishing he would say it actually was. Adam laughed rather nervously and muttered something under his breath as he went into his room. After having a quick shower I decided I may as well put on the clothes Kel had picked out. I did like what she had chosen. Grabbing my phone and wallet I walked out into the lounge where Adam was waiting for me. I'm not sure if it was me hoping he would or whether he actually ran his eyes over me before looking away and what appeared to be him blushing. But it made me think that perhaps there was hope. "Ready?" he asked. "Yep" I said making my way towards the door to leave. --------------------------------------------------- Adam and I began to make our way towards the local food district where there was any type of restaurant you could ever want. In the time I had lived there I had frequent the restaurant hotspot to sample various new cuisine. I wondered which one we were going to. As we neared the restaurants my curiosity was getting the better of me. "Are you going to tell me which place we are going to?" "Nope" he said turning to look at me with his sexy grin. "Please..." I said trying to suck an answer out of him. "Mmmm... Nope" he replied still grinning at me. "Fine." I said pouting. "Aaw there, there" Adam teased while patting me on the shoulder and chuckling. We continued with general conversation as we walked the last couple blocks to the restaurants. Plenty of nerves were still floating around in my stomach over what might transpire over the night or if dinner tonight was actually like a date to him. I was however filled with joy at being able to spend some more time alone with him. The more time I spent alone with him, the more I wanted to be with him and the need to find out if he felt the same way became greater. When we got closer to the restaurant district Adam began to make his way towards one of the restaurants. "The Steakhouse?" I asked looking over at Adam. "Yeah, I hope you don't mind. I'm just sort of craving a good steak haha" "That's fine with me. My mouth is already beginning to water at the thought" --------------------------------------------------- Dinner was nice with both Adam and I seeming to just be enjoying being in each other's company. Well at least I was enjoying it being just him and I. The food was also delicious. We both enjoyed a massive slab of steak each. Both meals well and truly fulfilling our cravings for a great steak. I had also become increasingly relaxed around him as we enjoyed a few drinks to compliment the food. The alcohol was doing wonders with the nerves that were once present but had now almost completely disappeared. General chatter filled in the evening as we took our time to savour our meals. We were tucked away in the corner so we weren't getting disturbed by the other patrons. It was nice. Leaving the Steakhouse Adam insisted on paying since it was his idea for us to go out to dinner. "Adam, you don't have to pay for me." "Quite, it was my idea to go out for dinner, so it's my shout." He said while receiving the receipt. I couldn't help but smile inside, at the fact he was paying for me, like it was an actual date. "Lucky we are walking home, I feel so full" I said as we began to walk home. "So... no room for ice-cream then". I turned and stared at him at which he began to laugh. "I'm joking, no ice-cream haha" Half way home as we rounded a corner I came face to face with someone who stopped me dead in my tracks. It couldn't be. Adam had walked a couple steps ahead when he realised I had suddenly stopped. He took the couple steps back so he was standing beside me and looked between me and the person who had me frozen in confusion and disbelief. "Ben?" the stranger asked. All I could do was nod and continue to stare. "Ben, oh my god, I can't believe it's you." The stranger spoke again taking a step towards me. I instinctively took a step back. How could they be acting like this. We hadn't seen each other for years and after what happened. Yet here they are acting all nice and so glad to see me. I wasn't exactly glad to see them. Not after how things ended, I do not need to be seeing them. "Did you get my text last night?" I just nodded again. I was speechless. I was in a slight state of shock in seeing them, and didn't know what I should be saying to them. I was so glad I had Adam with me as he stepped in and saved me from having to do deal with them anymore. He must of sensed, by my reactions, I didn't want to be seeing them. "Come on Ben, we have to go" Adam said, ignoring the other person, sticking his arm around my shoulders and guiding me around them. "It was good to see you Ben, perhaps we can catch up sometime?" the stranger said as Adam and I walked away. I continued to ignore them as I walked away. Still not being able to comprehend the situation. Adam and I walked the next couple of blocks in silence as I was too caught up in my own thoughts. My mind becoming overloaded by past memories that this sudden encounter has unlocked. I did not want to deal with this right now, not when I could possibly be on the verge of happiness for the first time in a long time. As we approached our apartment building Adam gave my shoulder a squeeze as he pulled me in a little tighter to his side. "You okay?" he asked with some concern in the tone of his voice. "Yeah... I'm okay. Just a little rattled at seeing them again." "Can I ask who that was?" he asked cautiously, not knowing if I wanted to talk about it or not. "His name is Toby. Let's just say he's an old acquaintance of mine." "Did something go down between you two?" "You can say that. I don't really want to talk about it at the moment though. If that's okay." "Yes that's fine. You talk only when and if you are comfortable doing so. And well not to be rude, but I didn't get a very good vibe from him." "Thanks." At this point we were getting in the elevator and began the ride up to the apartment. Part way up I found myself singing softly along to the song playing on the radio in the elevator. "This is the first day of my life, I swear I was born right in the doorway. Yours was the first face that I saw, I think I was blind before I met you." After realising I was doing it I stopped and became embarrassed in front of Adam again. "Sorry." I said turning to hide my blushing cheeks. I really had to stop doing that around him. "It's okay, I don't mind" he said while chuckling softly to himself. --------------------------------------------------- Once inside I bent over to take off my shoes. "Ugh, I am still so full, I feel like I could burst." "Oh really?" Adam said slyly while poking me in the side of the stomach. I let out a giggle. I am extremely ticklish. "Yes. And don't do that." "What... this..." he said poking me again. "Yes that." I said slowly backing away from him trying to cover my sides while laughing. "I'm ticklish." "Oh, I hadn't noticed." He said coming at me again with a sly grin on his face, getting at my sides once again with his hands. "Stop it..or..." I said between my laughter. "Or what." Adam said before launching into a full on tickle attack causing both of us to fall over the end of the lounge, ending up with him on top of me laying on the couch. "Stop... please...Adam... stop..." I managed to get out between fits of laughter while squirming beneath him, trying to get free. Adam wasn't listening to me. He just laughed and continued his assault. After much struggle I was finally able to grab a hold of both of his hands which caused him to fall and his face ended up only inches from mine. As I calmed down from laughing I found myself staring up into his eyes. He was so close I could feel his warm breath brushing against my cheeks. Nerves began to arise with being so close to him. Adam suddenly began to close the distance between us and before I knew it I felt his lips upon mine. I was melting inside. His lips were so soft. Adam broke the kiss and moved back just far enough to look into my eyes and get a read on my reaction. All I could do was smile as I pulled him back down for another kiss. This time it was a little more passionate. I jumped slightly at the feel of his tongue running along my lips searching and asking to enter. I separated my lips slightly and that was all the invitation he needed. His tongue darted into my mouth eagerly wanting to explore. The sensation of his tongue against mine was all new to me and was turning me on. He finally finished exploring every cavern of my mouth and began inviting my tongue into his mouth. I followed his beckoning tongue into his mouth. At first a little reserved but soon I began to bravely explore his mouth. He tasted so good. I couldn't get enough. I was in heaven, I didn't want the kiss to end. We finally broke apart searching for air. Both of us breathing slightly heavier than before. "Wow" I managed to squeak out between breaths. "Yeah, wow" Adam said as he slid off the top of me to beside me on the lounge but still with one arm draped across my chest. After laying there for a few minutes I felt sleep start to creep up on me. I didn't want to separate myself from Adam but I also didn't want to fall asleep on the lounge. "Adam..." I whispered. "Yeah Ben?" Adam softly spoke while propping himself up on one arm. "Will you sleep in with me again tonight?" Adam didn't answer. He crawled over the top of me, stood up and offered me his hand smiling. Taking his hand I pulled myself off of the lounge and he led me into my room. Both of us stripped down to our boxer briefs and crawled into bed. Tonight our positions were reversed. Adam pulled one of my arms over him and held it tight against his chest as he wriggled back in as close as he could to me. So his bare back was up against my chest. "Goodnight Ben" Adam whispered as he brought my hand up to his lips and lightly kissed it before returning it to his chest. "Goodnight Adam" I whispered as I breathed in his scent and placed a light kiss on the back of his neck. There I laid in ultimate peace. Could this be the beginning of the perfect dream? --------------------------------------------------- Thanks for reading the eighth chapter of my first story.
