END OF RANT Chapter 8 Once we reached the uni, Tim and I were conscripted to carry all of Susan's stuff back to her college room. Lucky clothes are relatively light, if she had 5 bags of books we would need a freight truck (ok, maybe just a forklift). After helping her unpack, we ambled back to St. Peters and chatted in my room for a while before doing our uni work (together of course). Once Monday rolled around, we ambled off to our lectures as normal but as soon as we sat down Susan hissed "Guys, don't be so obvious" to us. A whispered conversation went on between us then. "What do you mean, we always walk together to uni" "Yes, but you don't have to act like bloody boyfriends" "We weren't, were we?" Both Tim and I looked shocked "Sure as hell you were, try not to brush against each other every 5 seconds, and keep your hands to yourselves" I looked at Tim and he obviously hadn't noticed that we were doing it either. Susan told us that she had a plan, and would talk to us after the lecture. I was wondering what would come of all this, and zoning out until I felt a stabbing pain in my ribs half way through the lecture. "Kate! Was it absolutely necessary to poke me in the kidneys?" I angrily whispered to her. "If you would actually come back to this planet and pay attention I wouldn't have to resort to drastic measures." She replied. After that I payed attention to the lecture, as did Tim. After the lecture Susan beckoned to us and we followed her to a relatively deserted area. Relatively deserted because there is nowhere really deserted when everyone is moving between classes. The first words out of her mouth made us sure that she had gone insane. "You two guys need girlfriends if you are going to keep your relationship quiet" Both Tim and I looked at her in shock. Tim recovered first. "Susan, on the off chance you haven't noticed, neither Dan nor I are interested in girls." "I have noticed" she shot back "I was not saying that you need to be in love with them, I said you needed girlfriends" "I for one am not going to hurt some girl, just to keep myself safe" Alex replied, his face clouding with anger. "Me neither" I put in, just as angry. "Guys, calm down. I am not asking you to hurt them." With that our anger evaporated. "Susan, how are we supposed to not hurt them by giving them the wrong impression, and leading them on" "Sarah and Claire are together too, and they need boyfriends to keep their relationship secret. Now do you understand?" Ok, neither of us saw that one coming. We agreed that it was a good idea, and we would all go to the movies when we could arrange it. It turned out that we could all go on Friday night, and we went to see RENT. Tim has a car that we used, and we drove to St. Marks to pick them up, Susan was also coming with us. We arrived at St. Marks at 7pm on the dot, and the girls were waiting out the front for us. Susan introduced us to Sarah, who was my "date" and Claire, who was Tim's "date". Sarah was about my height with shoulder length straight black hair, and Claire was a shade shorter with long blonde hair. If I was straight, I would go for them. We helped all 3 of them in the back and I sat in the passenger seat while Tim drove. We saw arrived at the nearby cinemas at 7:15 and picked up our tickets for the 7:30 screening. The line for the ticket windows stretched around the foyer, but then Tim said that he had booked and paid for the tickets online, so we used this automatic machine that printed our tickets, no waiting at all! After we got the obligatory popcorn we went in. The door lets you in about in the middle of the theatre, and we moved up to nearly the back. So we could all sit as we wanted to we sat Susan, me , Tim, Claire and Sarah. As we were up the back, no one would notice that I wasn't sitting next to Sarah. During the movie Tim and I held hands. RENT was good. The funniest thing is that there are two same-sex couples in it, which we all got a laugh out of. The movie was very touching, and showed the heartbreak of AIDS as well. Overall, we found it well done. I don't think there was a dry eye when Angel died (Angel was one of the main characters, and she had AIDS). We got out of the movie around 9:30, it was a really long movie, and we drove the girls back to St. Marks. They giggled when we gave them the expected kiss on the cheek, knowing that it was all for show. We headed for college smiling. Even though we weren't interested in dating Sarah and Claire, they were friendly and fun to be with. Once we got back to my room, I kissed Tim passionately on the lips. Once we broke for air he said "It looks like we both needed that, but we should remember to lock the door first next time". I quickly fixed that problem. "Tim, stay with me tonight, please?" I asked, looking at him with puppy-dog eyes. "Dan, you don't need that look to get me to sleep here with you" he replied jokingly. We did the usual stuff to get ready for bed, and after Tim locked up his room we got into my room (remembering to lock the door this time) and crawled under the covers of my bed. It was a bit of a tight fit, but Tim assured me that he was a quiet sleeper, as was I. After a few kisses, I rolled over and Tim put his arms around me from behind. I felt so safe and protected in his arms. We drifted off to sleep peacefully.
