I heard a gasp from off to the side. It was Mrs Svenson. "I.....Well there is little doubt in my mind young man. Do come in." "Thank you very much. This is my husband Mr Holtz." "Oh I just can't believe the resembalance. For a moment I actually thought Thomas was home, but you're missing the scar on the chin." "If I may Mrs Svenson, how did that happen?" "Thomas was the captain of the high school hockey team his senior year. Thank the stars that was the only injury he ever had. So, how can we help you Mr Sawyer?" "Does it seem, on those rare occassions you hear from Thomas, that he knows what is going on in your life?" "Now that you mention it, yes he is often aware of family goings on. Is that significant?" "It could be. Shows he might be in contact with someone else in some way. I notice you have a computer. Do you use any of the social media?" "We are on facebook. Oh I never even considered!" "I would greatly appreciate it if you mentioned my visit the next time you post. If he is monitoring your account please give him enough information that he can easily track me down, even if it is only to talk to him over the net. I've no other family other than Karl and his folks at this point and I would dearly love to speak with him." "So why now young man?" "I only found out I had a brother last Christmas time. It took quite a while after that to sort through records and find you folks." "Why did you only find out last Christmas?" I quickly ran down my life for them through the accident and recovery. "And you want nothing more from Thomas than to reconnect?" "That is all yes." "You're not in desperate need of a kidney or something?" "No sir. I am currently as healthy as a person can be." I could appreciate that they thought I might have some ulterior motive, so I didn't really mind answering the questions. "Very well young man. Give me your contact information and we'll see to it that mention is made in our social media. We will mention your visit to our friends as well in case Thomas is in contact with one of them." "Thank you very much. I can't ask for more than that." I gave them my email, cell and street addresses for both home and the apartment at campus, letting the Svensons know that I would well be at either place. We left the Svensons home and hit the road for a little while until we found a decent place to stop for the night. "Well that went a lot more cordially than I thought it would." "And I'm glad of it Karl. It means I'm one step closer to hopefully finding my brother. What that may mean down the line, I'm not sure, but we'll deal with it." We had supper and crashed out and were on the road again early the next morning. We motored on through Massachusetts and into New Hampshire on up Interstate 93 and into Franconia Notch. We stopped and walked the trail for the Flume and drove on through to where the Old Man in The Mountain had once stood. We then circled around on Rt 302 and found a little place to stay for the night. Friday we drove up Mount Washinton and were rewarded with one of those rare clear days where you could see all of the way to Ocean. After getting back down to the bottom we continued on and spent a bit of time exploring North Conway and the many "factory" stores. By late afternoon we were back on our way towards Boston. I had made reservations at one of the better places in town and once we were checked in we found their dining room and had dinner and once again crashed for the night. It really had been a long day. Saturday we spent the day doing all of the tourist things one does in Boston. We went to the Bunker Hill monument, walked the Fanieul Hall and Quincy Market Places, and hopped across the river to see Old Ironsides. We even found our way to the Commons and to the place that a popular TV show had been modeled after. Skywalk at the Prudential Center gave us a really good overview of the entire city. We wound up our day with a quiet dinner oceanside and retired to our room. The trip would be over tomorrow, but I hoped that the honeymmoon was just beginning. Sunday we were up and our flight didn't leave until early afternoon. We had a leisurely breakfast and returned to our room and made sure that everything was packed. I did a once around the room checking all of the drawers and under the bed to make sure we had everything. The drive out to Logan Airport was a bit of a nightmare and I'm glad I left us a lot of time to make it. We turned in the car and finally got to our terminal and got checked in. Through security and finally to our gate. We only had a half hour to wait once we got there, or so we thought. Our plane had been delayed at its last stop due to weather. We ended up waiting for about three hours. I called Aaron as he was picking us up. "Looks like we're going to be a lot later than we thought." "Yeah the online arrival board is showing your flight as delayed. Any idea how long at this point?" "The best info that I can get right now has the flight is in the air and getting here in about another hour. Giving it time to be serviced and everything, I'm thinking about 8 or 9 tonight." "I'll keep checking the website and plan accordingly. How did things go?" "We had a good time and yes there are plenty of pictures." "Not what I meant and you know it." "Things with Thomas' parents went as well as could be expected. The ball is in his court at this point." "Let's hope to hell he returns the volley." "You said it. See you when we get there." I hung up and looked at Karl. "I suppose we had better grab something to eat." "Yeah it's only a snack that we'll be getting onboard I think." We found a little place close to the gate and ended up with a couple of the best steak sandwiches that we had ever had. Soon enough we were back to the gate and the flight had landed. Another 45 minutes and we started boarding. Once again we were in first class and taken care of quite nicely. We got airborne and our drinks and snack were served as we were winging our way home. The flight was uneventful and Aaron was right there at baggage claim to pick us up. "Well you guys don't look any the worse for wear." "Maybe not, but it's good to be home." "We need to stop and grab something to eat?" "I wouldn't mind a quick drive through." We hit one of the franchises and were then on the way back to my house. I should have known that Aaron had something planned when I saw the lights on. When I opened the front door there was a "SURPRISE!" Karl and I got covered in streamers and what not. Karls family along with Pete and Roland and a bunch of our friends were there. Aaron got our bags into our room for us while we had to gladhand everybody and get kisses from a few. Along about midnight we got the last of the folks out of the place and decided to wait until tomorrow to worry about cleaning the place up. I left a note on the dryboard for Mrs Ohanlon to let her know that we would be taking care of it as per our agreement from the very start. When we finally did wake up it was close to noontime. We both grabbed some clothes and made our way out to the kitchen. "Well bout time you two slugabeds got yourselves in gear. The living room and front hall are being a mess." Mrs Ohanlon simply handed me a broom. Karl and I got busy cleaning things up and getting the dishwasher loaded and finally Mrs Ohanlon relented and served us a late lunch. The rest of this Monday was spent just relaxing around the pool. It wasn't too long before Bobbie was over with us. We horsed around with him until Gert called him home for supper. We went in to our own meal and Mrs Ohanlon was on her way home. I went into the excercise room and spent an hour or so working out. I hadn't really done so in over a week and I was feeling it by the time I stopped. "You're going to knock their socks off when you get back on campus lover." "I'm hoping so. Trying to decide to unleash it all at once or give it to them a little at a time." "Oh hell unleash it all at once, the first closed practice that you have." "You thinking the scouts are going to be out early?" "After you guys doing so well at the all state? It's a foregone conclusion lover." "You're probably right. I'll tell coach and let him decide. I wonder if it will still be Coach Warren?" "Only time will tell love. When are we going to start packing?" "I guess that can wait a couple of days. We left quite a bit of stuff there afterall." "Yeah we did. So just your gymnastics stuff and a few clothes and what not I guess. Seeing as you don't have to take Pete are you taking 'baby'?" "Much as I'd like to I think I'll stay with the Toyota. No telling when we might need the capacity." "Yeah I guess." Tuesday I took the time to download my photos from the trip and posted a few of them online for our friends. The rest of the day was spent just lounging around the house. Along about 6 Karl came up to me. "Get some party clothes on lover. We're going to Mannys tonight." "Why are we going to do that?" "Because this is the night we launch the new batch of college freshmen out into the real world. We missed it last year." "I suppose if it is tradition we might just as well." I showered up and got into some decent clothes and we headed for Mannys. There were any number of folks we knew there tonight, some classmates some from other years as well. A few of the faces that were being launched into the real world were familair from the gymnastics team. None of them it seemed were bound for State. It got to be around 11 and we decided to call it a night. Home again and come 5:45 we were up and out to meet Aaron and Roland. The rest of the day passed without incident and we had dinner with Karls parents tonight. We had decided to leave Thursday to give ourselves a bit of time to get the apartemnt arranged to our liking and to use the day Friday to get our own schedules and books squared away before I attended Frathouse Friday. Before we knew it Thursday morning was on us. We did get our jogging in and we were on our way by 10 am.
