I was sorely tempted to stop and ask, but I knew that the answer was that he couldn't talk about it. So I headed on over to the student union and got my lunch. Once again most people didn't stop to talk today. The exception being Bob Watson. "Nothing new?" "Not that I've heard Bob." 'Yeah I haven't heard anything either, which in and of itself is a little strange. I can tell you there's been a lot of midnight oil being burned in the admin building." "More than usual seeing as we are getting to the end of term?" "A hell of a lot more, particularly in the Deans office." "I'm sure the Dean has any number of problems to worry about besides me." "Probably, but none more urgent I'm thinking, like you said it's getting to be end of term." "Yeah, well all I can do at this point is to let the wheels grind to whatever end." "Do I still get to hear if something breaks?" "If I'm allowed to talk about it sure." "Then I'll be waiting to hear from you. Later." Bob got up and left and shortly thereafter I got on my way over to Risk/Rewards. Nothing untoward happened here today and soon enough I was on my way back to the apartment. Karl showed up at his usual time. "So, any developments today?" "Nothing worth mentioning." "What isn't worth mentioning Den?" "Just that there seems to be a lot of late hours being put in at the Deans office." "That could be anything." "Exacting what I told Bob Watson. But it being this close to end of term, he has convinced himself that I'm the Deans most pressing problem." "He may not be wrong lover. It's no secret that the adminstration would like to see another win at the all state." "Yeah true enough. Supper will be ready in about 5." So we ate and then hit the books for a bit and then crashed in front of the tube for an hour before hitting the sack. Thursday morning dawned bright and clear so we were at it once again. Laps were run, once again pretty much silently, and Karl and I got back to the apartment and got squared away for the day. It finally was time for me to head into the practicum. Once again it was being held in the lecture hall, and once again only the main floor was lit. It was the 15 minute discussion and today I hung around through the reviews. I once again started down to speak to Adams and he once again just grabbed his briefcase and booked on out. I had upheld my end of things and I was sure that word would once again get back to Dean Evans. So I headed on over to the student union and got my lunch, and was pretty much left alone once again. I gave serious consideration on going over to the rec center and seeing if Coach Warren would let me workout today. Seeing as there hadn't been any resolution to the problem, I doubted that he would, so I just headed to the apartment. I got whatever school work had to be done taken care of and when Karl came in I just about had supper ready to put on the table. "Anything new to report today?" "Other than Adams blowing me off again no." "Word has to be getting back to the Dean." "I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever, but I'm sure he has to be damn careful how he reacts." "Yeah I suppose so." We ate and then I finished up whatever I had to for school and then crashed in front of the tv. Karl was right there to wrap his arms around me. We soon enough after that crashed for the night. Friday and we were at it once again. Investment vehicles was pretty much just general discussion at this point. Mr Blevins had a look in his eyes today that I hadn't seen before, but I didn't think much of it. So it was on over to the Tax class with Mr McEmbers. The hour went by fairly quickly today. I was on my way out and happened to look at Mr McEmbers, and I could tell there was a bit of a devilish grin there. I knew better than to ask and headed on over to the student union for my lunch. Pete and Susan stopped by today. "So any word on where you stand?" "No word, but, McEmbers had a bit of a look at the end of class, and now that I think about it so do did Mr Blevins." "A look?" "Yeah like he knew something was going to, or had happened." "And you didn't ask?" "No as likely the answer would have been that he couldn't talk about it. I mean I haven't heard of anything happening so it is likely something that is going to happen." "Think some kind of decision has been reached?" "If there has been I sure as hell haven't been told about it, I don't think." I quickly pulled out my phone and checked for messages and found none. I even went and checked my email and there was nothing there either. "Well we've got to get it in gear Den. Keep me posted." "You got it Pete." I finished my lunch and then headed on over to Risk/Rewards. Again we were down to general discussion here. When I left I noticed that Mrs McCauley had a cat that ate all of the cream grin on her face when she looked at me. Now I was damn curious and instead of heading home I went looking. For whom you ask? The one person who seemed to hear everything around here, Bob Watson. I found him not long after. "Dennis, what up?" "I was hoping you could tell me Bob. All of my instructors seem to be in rather too good a mood when they look at me. What have you heard?" "Honest to god Dennis, I haven't heard a thing, not even off the record." "I wouldn't ask you to violate off the record if you had Bob." "What do you think is going on Dennis?" "Not something I'd care to speculate on Bob. That's how rumors get started." "Ain't that the truth. I'll keep my ears open and let you know anything I can back up, if I can." "Can't ask for anything more than that. Thanks Bob." I didn't hang around after that and headed for the apartment. I got home before Karl so naturally started supper. While it was cooking I made sure I had all of my notes together for the practicum. I somehow had a feeling I was going to need them. Karl showed up a little bit later. "Any news today lover?" "Not news persay, but all of my instructors today looked like the cat who swallowed the canary." "And not one of them had a thing to say." "Not a one. So not sure if I should feel relieved or not." "I'm thinking that you should feel relieved Den. I'm betting your instructors like you, and that they sure as hell know something but they aren't allowed to say anything at this point." "I hope to hell you're right Karl." "So tomorrow is a mandatory practice. You going to at least show up?" "I had better, even if the coach doesn't let me practice. Otherwise I don't qualify for the all state when I lick this thing." "Den, you said when and not if." "Damn right. I've got to start thinking positive or else coach won't let me anywhere near the floor. I need to be out there working it if I'm going to take the gold this year." "Now THAT'S the man I've grown to love. Guess we had better eat so you can sack out early tonight." Which is just exactly what we did. Saturday morning and we were up and out for our jogging and then back to the apartment for a couple of hours before the practice. It was a mandatory practice, but not an all day. I got there and got changed up and was out to stretch out when the coach came onto the floor. "Dennis?" "Coach, I've got this. Win, lose or draw, my head is where it needs to be. You or Coach Connors keep an eye on me and the first you see I'm not into it I'll leave no questions. I have to at least do one routine to keep me in it for the all state." "Ok Dennis, but no triples today. You've been away from it for well over a week." "Agreed." "Hit the pommel and let me see." I moved over to the pommel horse and mounted up and did my full routine and even managed to "stick" my dismount. Not only was Coach Connors keeping an eye on me, but so was Gary and when he wasn't working a piece, Dana. I worked each piece of equipment as it became available and not a word was said. I finished up with my floor excercise and landed all of my flips and somersaults solidly and then went to the sidelines. Coach Warren was still watching the other guys and I knew I had to wait until he talked to Coach Conners at the very least until I could get a decision. When everyone was finished working out the coaches went into a little huddle with Dana and Gary and finally Coach Warren came to me. "You're back in the lineup Dennis as long as the powers that be let you."
