Jason and Shaun

Jason & Shaun

Chapter 3m Part 1

Tiny Hands

Shaun has arrived home from work ahead of Jason. He sits in the living room, becoming a magnet for the cats. As he sits there, his mind starts to wander. He starts missing Indiana. He gets up and grabs their memory book. He looks at a picture of the apartment. He first met Jason, and they went from strangers to boyfriends. Then he turned a few more pages and saw a photo of the woman who helped bring him and Jason together. Ms. White was a beautiful woman who truly loved her sons, and they loved her. Pictures of friends and their adopted family fill his mind with sadness and happiness. While he misses Sarah and family, he is happy to know that everyone is okay, but it doesn't change the fact that he misses them. When he gets to the page where the pictures of the newest edition of Sarah and Mark's household are. He felt a mix of feelings in his stomach. He wanted to reach out to Sarah and see how the family is doing. Seeing that baby is making Shaun's heart want a little one. He decides that maybe now is the time to discuss baby-making with his husband.

***

After a while, Shaun gets up and heads into the kitchen to start making dinner so they can eat, and then they can sit back and talk after dinner. Jason comes home around 5:00 and follows the sound of someone in the kitchen.

`Man, is he hot. How did I get so lucky?'

Jason thinks to himself as he moves closer to his husband. He comes up behind Shaun and carefully wraps his arms around him.

"It's good to be home where I belong."

Jason says as he hugs Shaun. He breaks the hug and then finds himself gazing at Shaun's ass. He reaches down and pinches it.

"Babe, maybe you shouldn't do that while I'm cooking; the food might burn."

Shaun says as he turns around and kisses Jason. His husband loves his kisses. Then it hits Shaun that he has something to tell Jason to make him cry the happiest of tears.

"After dinner, there is something that we need to talk about."

Shaun's voice makes Jason melt a little bit. He couldn't tell if Shaun was happy or sad. Shaun was going to ask his husband to set the table, but he had already done it. Instead, he moved the food to the table and filled their glasses.

"Supper is on, Babe."

It doesn't take Jason long to get to the table. When Shaun cooks, it always comes from the heart, and it's usually a dish that Jason and Shaun haven't tried before. Tonight's meal comes from an old American cookbook, where the recipes have been adjusted for the modern day. Jason actually loved it, as did Shaun. But now Shaun has to have the talk.

***

He walks Jason to the living room. The guys sit down together on the couch, and then Shaun takes Jason's hands and kisses him.

"Babe, we have discussed having kids before, and we both agreed that we were not ready for kids, and I think that maybe I'm prepared to sit down and figure it out.

Shaun tells Jason, who cannot believe what he is hearing. Jason has wanted to have this discussion for a long time. They both have been waiting for the other to be ready. It's possible they both knew Utah wasn't where they wanted to raise their kid, and while they both lived in Indiana prior, they were not ready for little ones. Jason looks at his husband.

"Are you sure? You don't need more time to think about it?

Shaun can see the happiness burning in his babe's eyes. He doesn't want to wait any longer.

"Jason, I don't need more time to think about it. I know I want one or three little ones running around our house."

Jason knows Shaun was brought up with the idea of having a family. He also knows that he's great with little kids. This could work if he treats his kids with the love he gives his nephews. Sadly, money is involved in this, and this adventure is costly. It's not as simple as how Sarah and Mark made their family. It's still an expansive ordeal, but Jason knows they will plan much more to accomplish the same result.

"Shaun, I've been thinking, and you can say no, but I want to have our kids. We can adopt if you want to, but I want a kid."

If only things were that easy, but Shaun has wanted the same thing, so, at least for now, they need to figure out how they will do this. They can sit down and discuss this, but ultimately the true power of decision lies in the hands of the woman who decides to carry their babies. The problem is, how do you ask a friend to carry your child when they have boyfriends, recently had kids, or are going to be married. Of course, if the boyfriends or the husband are on board, none of that is a problem. They can look into adopting if they can't go the surrogacy route. Though that child won't be their biological child. I can promise you that they will be loved as if they were.

"Is it too early to tell people we want to add little feet to the family?"

Jason asks as the cats once again want to play. Shaun looks at the cats and smiles.

"I wonder what they will think of us having a little one around?"

Shaun knows what little kids do to animals, and neither of the cats have been raised around kids, so it is a valid concern. Jason knows their pets and knows that Sasha will be the more patient of the two cats, and the other cat will more than likely hide once the crawling commences. Until that point, both cats will be inquisitive about the new arrivals. Once kids learn how to play nicely with the cats, they'll be best buddies with kids. He can imagine waking up and finding at least one of the cats in the crib with the baby.

"Oh...I didn't answer your question. No, I don't think it's too early to tell people. A thousand questions still need to be answered, but I think talking with others might help answer some of those questions, and we don't have to have all of them answered tonight. Know, can I just say how handsome you are?"

Shaun answers his husband's question. He can be totally serious and engaged in a conversation and still find some way to flirt with Jason, which is a fantastic gift.

"Who do we ask? Or do we contact an organization to help us find a surrogate?"

Jason asks as Shaun leans in to kiss him.

"Babe! Are we really going to cuddle or have this conversation?"

Jason is a little frustrated with Shaun at the moment. At least he knows that his man loves him.

"Do we want to discuss names?"

The answer isn't what Shaun wants to hear, but he's okay with it.

"I want to wait on the names. We can name the kids after our brothers or dads, but I want to think about that."

He won't take that away from Jason, so he'll wait for the whole name game.

`If Shaun is so eager to cuddle, maybe, it's time to let it happen.'

"Is your head running a mile a minute too?"

Jason asks his husband. He knows his mind is running circles around him. It could use a bit of a break.

"It is running pretty quickly."

Jason cuddles up next to him.

"I could use a little bit of cuddle action, though."

Jason tells Shaun, and the guys cuddle up next to each other.

***

The guys spend an hour cuddling next to each other, and when Jason needs to get some work done, Shaun receives a pencil and heads out to grab a notebook. Holding an empty notebook, he sits at the kitchen table and starts writing what they discussed and decided. He also puts down questions that pop up in his mind. It isn't long before the page is filled up. He then puts each question at the top of a page. He manages to fill up get seven questions. Then the phone rings, and Shaun lets Jason answer the phone.

***

The phone rings, and Jason answers it. It's Katrina. She calls about once a week to check on the guys and ensures everything is good.

"How is everything going?"

Katrina asked her friend.

"Good, Shaun surprised me tonight. We are talking about starting a family."

She is surprised to hear the news. She's happy for the guys, though.

"Awesome, Jason!"

Jason smiles even though she cannot see it, and the questions form in her mind. He may not have all the answers, but he wants to respond to her.

"Have you guys decided on surrogacy or adoption?"

She is curious to hear what their decision is as far as adding a child to the family. He starts putting his thoughts on the subjects.

"We would like to go with a surrogate, but we would like it to be someone in our friend or family circle. We have not picked her yet."

She thinks that she might want to be the surrogate. Katrina doesn't want to say yes, without speaking with her boyfriend.

"Don't get excited yet, but I wouldn't mind stepping in and being your surrogate, but I need to speak with my boyfriend before I give you the go-ahead from me."

Jason totally gets it. He would want Shaun to speak with him before making a massive decision like this. He's grateful for her to be this kind offering herself to them like this.

"Thank you, Katrina!"

She was glad to hear that Jason was thankful to her, and she feels like there is a smile on his face.

"You're welcome, Jason. I'll let Shaun and you know when I hear from my boyfriend."

Jason is thankful for his friend. He loves his friends. He wonders what Shaun will think of Katrina's offer. He loves it.

***

Shaun joins Jason in the living room. Jason is all smiles as his husband sits down next to him. Shaun knows that he's hiding something. He's not sure what he's hiding, but he feels like it's about to come spilling out.

"Shaun, I just got off the phone with Katrina, and you will not believe what she told me."

Shaun stares at hubby and shrugs his shoulders.

"She said she would consider being our surrogate if her boyfriend is okay with it."

Those words put a smile on Shaun's face. He doesn't know what the boyfriend will say when his girlfriend tells him she wants to be the surrogate to two gay guys that her aunt treated like sons. He wonders how he would react if he were straight and his girlfriend came to him with the idea of being a surrogate.

"That is awesome, Babe! Wouldn't it be cool if he gave the okay to do it?"

Shaun asks Jason, who really doesn't need to answer that question. He can see the smile on his babe's face, which is everything now.

"I don't know about you, Shaun, but I want something to celebrate."

He isn't sure they should celebrate Katrina's willingness to carry their baby or babies. Still, it would be nice if she could call the baby.

***

Jason eventually agrees with Shaun that maybe it's best to not celebrate tonight. Celebrating may have helped burn off some of that energy that Jason feels inside of him. Instead, he gets on the phone and makes another phone call. He calls out to Indiana. He's hoping to catch someone at home.

"Hey Jason, what's going on?"

Jason is glowing. He can barely get the words to the tip of his tongue.

"Sarah, I have some things to tell you. It's so cool. When I came home, Shaun caught me off guard and announced he was ready to have kids. We really want to try the surrogate route, but the best thing is that one of our friends said she might be our surrogate. We don't know what to think."

Sarah could not believe they didn't call her sooner. Also, why didn't they call her sooner?

"You know, you could have asked me?"

She sounds a little hurt, but he stands by their decision regarding Sarah providing surrogacy for them.

"Your name did come up, but we agreed it was too soon after the birth of your little one to expect you to carry our kiddos."

Sarah tails back her response when she hears the reasoning behind them not asking her to be the surrogate. She is okay with their decision.

"Jason, you know that Mark would have been fine with it. You're right; our little one isn't even a year yet."

Sarah is just relaxing a bit. Jason feels a little bit guilty for not passing this by Sarah first. Still, he stands by their decision to not ask Sarah. He just wants his friend to not go through raising their little one and then go through another 9-month pregnancy. Sarah would be okay with it, and he knows that but still feels guilty. Jason can hear the baby starting to fuss.

"I will let you go, Sarah."

Sarah is appreciative of the friendship that they have. She is glad that he is okay with letting her go to take care of the baby. Shaun walks up to Jason to say goodbye.

"Babe, Sarah said we should have asked her about being our surrogate."

Shaun shrugs his shoulder and gives Jason a kiss. Jason expected Shaun to say something, but he said nothing. Jason has tons of energy, so he goes for a walk.

***

Jason heads out for the walk. He usually walks up and down the street and back to the house. Today though, he walks around the block. He needs the extra time, though, to release that energy. Sometimes, he switches up his walking schedule and takes in different scenery.

***

When he gets home, he sits at his computer to look up stuff on babies. First, he looks up names. He wants some inspiration. After a few minutes, he grabs his notebook and writes down the ones that are his favorites. Next, he wants to look up what they will need to buy when the bay or babies finally arrive at the house. Shaun would say that Jason is being consumed by the baby thing. Maybe, he is correct, but Jason wants to be prepared before they start the process. Jason still has a ton of energy, so he stops by their friend's house.

***

He leaves the house and walks down to Jeff's and Grant's place. He wants to tell them about the news. He just hopes he can do it without getting giddy; that is how high his anticipation level is now. Knocking at the door, Jason is already feeling his excitement climb. Grant opens the door and invites Jason into the house. Jason is led into the dining room, where Jeff and Grant sit, working on a jigsaw puzzle.

"Cool, a jigsaw puzzle!"

Jeff looks at Jason and smiles.

"Do you work on puzzles with Shaun?"

Jason frowns a bit.

"No, we've never done them together. I don't even know if Shaun does them. I know I haven't."

Grant reaches into the piece pile to search for the next piece he needs.

"It's a great stay-at-home date night idea. Do you want to help us work on it while you're here?"

Grant adds as he searches. Jason slowly starts to search for a piece, and as he does, he decides to tell the guys what's happening in his life.

"So, Shaun pulled me to the side and told me he is ready to start the process of having a kid."

Grant and Jeff both stop working on the puzzle. Their eyes get huge. They are happy for the guys. They can't imagine what that must feel like.

"So, are you going the adoption or surrogacy?"

The guys are curious.

"We want to try surrogacy first; if that doesn't work, we'll go the adoption route."

Jeff smiles at pats Jason on his back.

"Congrats, man!"

He is proud, excited, and nervous. An hour is spent working on the puzzle and talking with the guys. After finishing that hour with them, he excuses himself and returns home.
