Jason and Shaun
Chapter 35; Part B
Tiny Hands
After
returning home from Grant's and Jeff's house, Jason checks the mailbox. There
is the usual junk mail, but there is also a letter from Indiana. It's Jason's parents, but it's written by his
mom. The letter is actually handwritten,
not typed up. It's written in pen, which
is typical of his mom.
"Dear Jason,
I hope you
are okay. I could have texted or even
called you, but I felt like being a tad old-fashioned. I love you.
Dad and I are sorry that Utah is not working out for the two of
you. How can we help you with the
move? Call us when you get the
chance. We love you, son! Give our love to Shaun.
Signed,
Mom."
Jason shows
the letter to his husband. Shaun read it
over, and he smiles, but Jason can tell there are other things on his mind now. He can't help but wonder how their parents
will feel about being grandparents.
Jason shows the letter to Shaun.
Jason looks at his husband.
"What do you
think, Babe?"
Jason asks
his husband, wanting some input. Jason
knows that they have enough money to cover the move. The guys aren't sure what exactly to say to
Jason's parents.
"Babe, what
happens if we go half and half on the house with your parents? We have money for the house, but if we go in
with your parents, we might get a better house. Or we could just do it on our
own? Heck, for that matter, my parents
might be able to help us out."
Jason would
love to do it all by themselves. Still,
a bigger house would be lovely.
"Mom wants
an answer. I just wanted to get your
thoughts before I called them."
Shaun
wonders if his husband will call their parents about their decision to have a
kid.
"Hey, Babe,
we must also call our parents to inform them about our decision?"
Jason nods
his head. He realizes that they need to
call home soon.
"I don't
know about you, Shaun, but I am hungry and tired."
Shaun nods
his head, so they work together to fix dinner.
After eating dinner, they again work together to clean the dishes and remove
any leftovers. Next, the guys get their
lunches made up for work tomorrow.
Finally, they brush their teeth and get to bed.
***
Shaun is
sitting at work, looking out the window, thinking about Utah, Indiana, and the
future. He looks at the picture of Jason
on his phone. The more he looks at the
photo, the more and more he is convinced that they need to leave this
state. Nothing would make him happier than
to return his husband to Indiana. He
knows his family is here in Utah, but Indiana is home. It's where their friend is, except for Jeff
and Grant. Still, they miss Sarah and her
family. Plus, there is Jason's
family. He knows Jason wants to be home,
and Shaun also intends to return to Indiana.
***
Jason gets
home first and starts working on dinner.
It's just pizza tonight and tossed salad. There is nothing fancy about it. Jason figures that a simple dinner will work
perfectly since the guys plan on calling their parents.
"Babe, are
we still calling our parents tonight, or do we want a quiet night?"
Shaun asks
his hubby. He knows that he wants to
speak with his family about the decision that they've made. He wants to tell his parents right away. Jason also wants the same thing.
"I want to
let my parents know our decision regarding our future."
Shaun
smiles. The guys are happy to let their parents know about their plans to start
a family. Still, there is some fear in
their minds. Shaun is apprehensive. He's worried about what will happen if his
birth mother discovers their plan. Will
his Dad keep things quiet?
On the other
hand, he no longer cares if she finds out, so why is he worried. Jason knows that he also needs to call his
parents. The guys are sweating a bit because they don't know how to take the
news. Jason is also worried like Shaun
is about Shaun's birth mom.
***
Shaun wakes
up the next day and says goodbye to his husband. After breakfast, he sits in the living room
and pulls out his phone. He calls his
parent's house. His mom answers the
phone.
"Hi, Shaun, what's going
on?"
He pauses,
takes a deep breath, gathers his strength, and then smiles.
"Hi, Mom,
how are you? So, I have, I mean, Jason,
and I have news. Is Dad home?"
Shaun
doesn't want to make many calls to get the words out. Sandy is kind of worried. She hates when Shaun or any kids hold back
their news because their father isn't on the phone. She just wishes that they would speak their
minds.
"No, he stepped
out for a bit. Do you want to call back
later?"
He wants to
tell his parents, so he doesn't want to call back a dozen times. His father
will just have to hear the news from his mom.
"No, I don't
want to call back, so are you ready to hear this crazy news?"
She is about
done with Shaun right now. She might be
giving him the "spill it" eye if he were over at the house. The face told her children that the jig was
up, and Mom knew something was being kept from her. Since he isn't there, maybe it's time to
force his hand.
"Shaun, I
don't want to ruin the moment, but I know something is up, so please just speak
up."
Shaun gave a
chuckles a bit.
He knows she thinks something is wrong, but he doesn't believe this is
anything bad. She is right; maybe it's time to tell her about their big
decision.
"I'm sorry,
Mom! Jason and I have been talking about
kid(s) on and off for a while now. But
we decided that we wanted to start planning for their arrival. We have a friend who says she'll carry a baby
or babies should we want to go that route.
We don't have names and are just starting to be serious about it. So yeah, that is our big news!"
She is
quiet. His words are still sinking into
her mind.
`Did
Shaun just say that they are...going to be Daddies?'
Maybe, she
missed hearing him. She is going to have
him repeat it.
"Shaun, can
you repeat that but condense it?"
Shaun takes
a second to condense his words in his mind.
"Jason and I
have decided to have kids. We have a
friend willing to be a surrogate, and that is where we are. Oh, one last thing, we decided we don't want
to raise them in Utah."
That last
sentence, he had to say it. It almost
breaks Sandy's heart. She might just
have to convince her husband to move closer to Shaun, but that won't work because
there is also a grandbaby here in Utah.
As much as she hates to think it, that little one here in Utah needs her
more than the baby that will eventually be in Indiana will need her. Sandy knows there is Jason's mom, as well as Sarah's family,
out there. Her grandchild will be OK,
but that won't stop her from being there to spend as much time with the child
as she can get away with.
"I don't
like the idea of a grandchild being so far away from me, but I know everything
will be okay."
Shaun feels terrible
that his parents won't be able to see their grandchild as often as they do the
other grandchild, but maybe they can make arrangements for nightly visits via
tech. He wonders what his mom thinks of
nightly visits when the time comes.
"I can't
offer weekly trips to come see you guys, but maybe I can arrange for visits
with the grandparents every night before bed? What do you think of that?"
Sandy spends
a few seconds considering what her son told offered up. It's enough to make her smile, knowing that
her son will allow them to visit with the little one.
"I can't
wait to see him or her and spoil the little one."
Shaun takes
that sentence as a symbol that everything will be okay. Course, there is the question of what Shaun's
dad will think of the news. Sandy isn't
worried because she knows her husband will gladly accept that little one.
"Okay, Mom,
I will keep Dad, and you informed on everything going on with the decision and
the baby's progress. I need to go for
now."
Shaun
readies to end the call.
"Bye, Shaun,
be good, Son."
Shaun will
never think of Sandy as anything less than Mom. Indeed, his birth mom would not
be okay with the fact that they want to have a baby.
"Bye, Mom!"
Shaun says
as he ends the call. Meanwhile, Jason is
anxiously awaiting the end of the day.
***
Jason has a
job that requires him to remain focused on his work. Deciding to do otherwise could mean that he
gets hurt or that someone else gets hurt because he isn't paying attention to
what he is doing. Today though, he wants
to get home so he can do what he needs to do.
He wants to call his parents. He
knows that they have a right to know about the decision. He hopes they'll approve and be happy to
welcome another grandchild into the world. In the meantime, though, he just wants to go
home and see the guy who makes him happy and loves him.
***
When Jason
gets home, he showers with Shaun for some sexy wet fun, and when they are done
washing and playing. Jason goes to the living room, pulls out his phone, and
calls his parents. He wants them to know
what's going on with Shaun and him. His
dad answers the phone, and Jason makes sure to get his mom in the room so that
she can also hear the news. With Mom and
Dad in the room, Jason gets ready to tell his parents about their decision.
"Mom, Dad,
Shaun, and I have decided that the time has come for us to start having a kid
or kids. We've talked to a friend who
agreed to be our surrogate, which is where we are. We have decided that we are not raising our
kids in Utah. We will be back in
Indiana."
His mom and
dad are very excited. At first, they are
both quiet, but
then his mom breaks the silence.
"Jason, I
can't wait to spoil my new children."
His dad
laughs.
"She is good
at spoiling your niece and nephews, and I have no doubt that any kid you and
Shaun bring into the world will be lucky to have your mom as a grandma. I think between your mom and Sandy, your kids
are going to be blessed."
Jason knows
his dad is right.
"Mom and
Sandy will be awesome."
Jason says
to his dad. The grandparents sit
together and talk amongst themselves.
They have some small talk with their son before they end the call. Jason's excitement is still bubbling up from
his heart.
***
Jason knows
he needs to remember how excited he felt as he got off the phone with his
parents about being a dad. He goes into
the bedroom and pulls out his journal.
It's something that Shaun got him doing, and he loves it.
"Dear Little
One Or Ones,
Hi, this is
Daddy J, or Papa, whatever we decide to use for you to call me. I just told my parents that we've decided to
become parents. Daddy and Dad are so excited about bringing you into our
lives. I can't wait to hold you in my
arms in the hospital. Right now, I am glad. I just want you to know that you are coming
into a family that loves and will cherish you. We will support you in your
hobbies, sports, and career decisions.
Anyway, this is Papa signing off for now."
He lays down
his pen and sighs. He needs his Shaun.
***
Jason finds
Shaun sitting in bed with the cats.
Typically, they wouldn't be allowed in the bed, but what Jason doesn't
see is all good. Jason gets in carefully
so he doesn't disturb the sleeping princesses.
"I see you
have the fur babies in bed with you. I
guess I can let it go for now. Are you as excited as I am over this whole baby
thing?"
Shaun leans
in and kisses his baby on the lips. Jason kisses him back.
"You know,
I'm excited. Did you call your parents
yet?"
Shaun asks
as he looks at Jason, who appears to be smiling.
"Yeah, I
just got off the phone with them a bit ago. They were super excited to hear the
news. If I didn't say it earlier, having you join me today in the shower was
nice. Little Jason was happy to have you
join in on the shower."
Shaun gives
Jason a bit of a smirk as he glances at Jason's body. He really did enjoy the shower, maybe a bit
too much. Jason is still as gentle as
ever and as patient as ever, though lately, that hasn't really been an issue in
bed. Jason and Shaun look at each other and curl into big spoons and little spoons.
