Quiet and sensitive, Jeremy first appears halfway through Peter's Mistake, (ch 15). These chapters relate some events in his life prior to arriving at the house. Jeremy. Chapter 5. "So, when're you moving in?" Pete and Sam were sitting with Jeremy between them at the end of the pool, both grinning happily after their success at dunking him in the shallow end. Jeremy was grinning happily too. He couldn't seem to help it when Pete was round. "Not this weekend, but the one after. I've given notice for my supermarket job and I've made my last rent payment." "Man, I can't wait. It's Sam's birthday too, isn't it Sam?" Sam laughed. "You have to watch him Jeremy. He's dangerous." Pete reached across Jeremy to grab Sam but he was ready and dodged away. Pete reached even further and accidentally on purpose pushed Jeremy over backwards then held him down and started poking his stomach. Flat on his back with his legs dangling in the water Jeremy was trapped in this awkward position. Sam joined in, holding him from the other side and doubling the amount of poking. His efforts to sit up didn't work. The harder he tried to escape the stronger the poking got till he relaxed, realizing he was meant to lie there and take it. "That's better. Now don't move." Jeremy watched Pete give Sam a wink. "Hey Sam, did you know Jeremy's a stud?" "He is? He looks too shy to me." "Shy? He's got you tricked. He's got the hots for Peter, and me too... Haven't you Jeremy?" Jeremy was shocked for an instant that Pete was talking to Sam like this, but it passed quickly when he saw how his reaction was being watched. Somehow he knew that there was nothing to worry about. He went to speak but Pete's hand groped his stomach and made him tense all over. "How did your maths go tonight? Did you get any done?" "Um. ...Yes." Pete clenched his fist and gave Jeremy a whack on the chest. "You dog! So the plan worked?" Sam was smiling though he obviously didn't know what Pete was talking about. "What plan?" "He worked it out the other day. He said he was going to strip off as soon as he got Peter by himself." "He did? He's not as shy as he looks then." Jeremy went to speak again and explain that it wasn't his plan at all, but another grope at his stomach pushed all the air out of his lungs. "I told you. He's a stud. You should see his weapon. It scared hell out of me." They were both now staring at his speedos. Jeremy wanted to sit up but he couldn't. He wanted to turn over but he couldn't, and he wanted to speak but the repeated stomach treatment every time he opened his mouth stopped that too. Why was he enjoying this so much? "You've seen it Pete?" "For sure. Well, not in action, but ready for it. It's unforgettable. Hey Jeremy, d'you reckon Sam's sexy?" "Don't embarrass him Pete." "I wouldn't dream of it. Go on. Tell him Jeremy. He gets off on people saying he's sexy. Specially when it's a stud." They both laughed at that and then Sam flicked his hand towards Pete's face and looked down at Jeremy. "Yeah, and Pete gets off when anyone even smiles at him." They looked down at him expectantly. Was he actually meant to say something? "What?" "Well, is Sam sexy or not?" "Pete, that's embarrassing." They both loved that and Jeremy worked out that he'd said exactly what they wanted. He couldn't help smiling. "Hey Sam, is Jeremy sexy?" "Off the scale Pete." "What about Peter?" "Him too." "Michael?" "Yep!" "Anthony?" "Yep!" "Me?" "Not even on the scale. Like one of those blow-up rubber dummies." Pete didn't even bat an eyelid. "See Jeremy, was that embarrassing? Now it's your turn." "Um ...Yes." With a great, melodramatic gasp, Pete looked at Sam. "My God. Did you hear that Sam? He's got the hots for you too." An amazing smile lit up Sam's face, well that's what it looked like to Jeremy. "What about Pete? Is he sexy?" "Off the scale!" Well, he'd said it and it came out easily after all the friendly stirring. They both knew he meant it too. It was an amazing feeling to be able to say what he really thought without worrying that he'd get his head punched in. He'd said it to Sam too. How did that happen? Suddenly Jeremy wanted to ask Pete a lot more about Sam. All thoughts of just about anything fled though because his mouth was covered. Oh my God! In front of Sam and everyone else. Pete was impossible. A wicked tongue started probing and Jeremy couldn't help responding. And responding. Wasn't he going to stop? When his bathers got uncomfortable, Jeremy made a strong effort to sit up but Pete's head held him in place till there was a soft chuckle from Sam. Pete lifted his head. "What is it Sam? This is fun." "Jeremy's enjoying himself. Look." Once again his speedos were the centre of attention. "Ho-ly! I told you it was a weapon. Check it out Sam." Jeremy scrambled frantically and managed to sit up with his knees bent and held against his chest. He wasn't sure exactly what Pete meant by the checking out bit but somehow it sounded like more than just looking, and that was already bad enough. "Pete!" It was only one word from Sam but Pete swung his head to look. "Okay. Come on Jeremy. We'll do a couple of laps." Thankfully Jeremy slipped into the water then raced after Pete. A fast lap down and then back was enough and when he stopped panting he went to climb out. "Not yet Jeremy. Show Sam your backstroke." Not quite certain if Pete was being straightforward, Jeremy glanced at Sam who just nodded. Well, whatever. He set off and then climbed out when Pete offered his hand. "What d'you reckon Sam? Is Peter right about his potential?" "Well there's no way I'd argue with Peter, but he does look pretty tense doesn't he?" "For sure. Like he's putting more energy in than he's getting out." Jeremy looked from one to the other as they spoke about his backstroke style. "Has Peter said much to you about your backstroke Jeremy?" "No, not really. Mostly it's been freestyle." "Sam's our best backstroker. He's wondering if you're going to be chasing his spot?" Jeremy's eyes widened. He couldn't be serious. "No way Pete. I'm miles behind both of you. You know that." "No you're not. When Peter helps you you'll catch up like crazy. Won't he Sam?" This wasn't really news. Pete had already said it a number of times. "That's for sure. And you're strong too. Everyone's impressed with your improvement." Jeremy didn't know what to say then, but the praise made him feel great. All that effort had been worth it. "Peter says I'm still not strong enough Sam." "Of course he does, and he won't stop saying it either, but he gets you there. I'm surprised he hasn't said more about your backstroke though. Has he taught you any relaxation exercises? You do look tense in the water." "No, only the warm down laps. But we all do those. Is being tense very bad?" "It can be. It means you're using energy against yourself and that can't help." Jeremy was thinking about this and it made a lot of sense. "Hey, show us your freestyle. You might be the same there." Jeremy stood up at Pete's suggestion then hesitated at the edge of the pool. "How fast?" "Ninety percent." A little worried about this tenseness business, but also wanting to impress, Jeremy swam harder than ninety per cent and had to recover before he pulled himself out of the water. "He's definitely tense. Check him out Sam." They both grinned and looked at his speedos. "Not like that. Check his muscles." Jeremy looked for an explanation. "Sam knows about muscles Jeremy. His father's a professional masseur. Go on Sam." Sam moved behind Jeremy and started probing and working his neck muscles. "Oh boy. Feel this Pete. He's tight as a strung wire." Pete moved into place. "What do I do?" "Press there. That's it. Not too hard. Feel that resistance?" "Yeah, I see what you mean. Isn't that just strong muscles?" "No, feel my biceps and I'll show you." Sam flexed his arm and then relaxed it while both Pete and Jeremy were holding it, showing them the contrast. "Pure flab Sam. I can't tell any difference." "I know. That's because you're not strong enough." They mucked round then, testing various muscles on each other and saying how soft and weak the other was. Jeremy loved it and found it really interesting as well. Then Sam got more serious and worked on some of his back muscles. His actions were deft and sure. "Jeremy, you're tense like a spring. Can you relax?" Jeremy didn't know how to answer. "Hey, give him one of your special massages. That'll relax him." "It would. But I don't think he's ever had a massage. I can tell by the way he reacts and he mightn't want it." "A massage? Of course he would, they're great. Have you ever tried one Jeremy?" "No." "Well you don't know what you've missed. Sam's the best. You'll have one won't you?" "Um ...I guess. If Sam doesn't mind." Pete gave one of his mischievous grins. "He won't mind. He loves it, especially with a stud." "Don't take any notice of him Jeremy. I'd like to give you my special massage. What about Saturday night?" "I can't Sam. I've got an extra at the supermarket." "Well it's too busy during the week. I know, we'll make it the day that Pete and I help you shift. Saturday next week. How does that sound?" It sounded great to Jeremy and hearing Sam say he was helping with the shift was a nice surprise. "There's not much to shift Sam. It'll only take one trip in Pete's van." "Well, you'll want to settle in though." Pete said that was great because they could spend the afternoon at the Bay and before he knew it Jeremy's whole shifting day was organized. The swimming finished, Pete drove and then they sat in the van talking for nearly half an hour. Pete started it but Jeremy had so many things to ask him. "Everybody likes you Jeremy. You had a good night didn't you?" "I can't believe they're all so friendly Pete. They don't even know me." "That's because of Peter. We'd all do anything for him. Just like you. Hey, what did you do when you went upstairs? Once again Jeremy found himself describing intimate details. How did Pete get him to do that? Pete was delighted. "See, I told you it was a good plan. Are you going to try again at your next maths session?" "No, we hardly did any maths at all." "So when are you getting together again?" "I'm not sure." "What's that mean?" Jeremy blushed. "Um. He said we'd have to try out the double bed in the room." Pete loved it. "You Stud!" "Pete, why did you call me that in front of Sam?" "Why not? He's your friend." "My friend? Tonight was the first time we even talked to each other." "Believe me. He really likes you. He's the kindest person you'll ever meet." "Is that why you stopped teasing when he told you to?" "Yeah, he's a lot more sensitive than me." "Why did you kiss me?" "Why not? You loved it didn't you?" This was embarrassing. "Um, yes. But Sam was there." "Well, he's not here now is he?" Jeremy stared. Pete meant they should kiss now? Pete beckoned with his finger and when their lips touched Jeremy followed Pete's lead. "I'm a good kisser aren't I?" Jeremy could only nod. He felt rather flooded by Pete's personality. "Pete, it's making me feel funny." "What do you mean? ...Have you got a boner already?" Jeremy didn't get to answer but he jumped when Pete checked him out. "Holy hell Jeremy. You're a hot one aren't you?" Pete laughed. "You'll get used to me one day." Jeremy was quite flummoxed. What did it mean? This was the third time Pete had kissed him. It must be just mucking round between friends. Pete's way of teasing him for being gay? Pete gave a huge grin. "So, are you still nervous now you've met everyone?" It was a most obvious change of topic. "Um ...yes, but not so much." "What did you think of Andrew?" "I'm not sure. He didn't say much and he kept watching me all the time. He's big." "Wait till you see how strong he is. He tipped a car over once without even trying, when some guys were after Anthony." Jeremy didn't know if Pete was being serious or not. "He's the one who organized the computer for you. He's into all that stuff." "Computers?" "Yeah, he builds them. He set up the whole network in the house." Andrew suddenly became even more interesting. "He builds them?" "Yep, and it was his idea to put a workbench in your room." "You were talking to him about me?" "What do you reckon? It was mostly Peter though." "You're amazing Pete." There was quiet as they looked at each other in the light from the street lamps. "Not really. We're friends Jeremy." *** Writing in his journal took ages, and when he finally did go to bed Jeremy couldn't sleep. Ideas kept pouring in about the people he'd met tonight, the way they'd set up the room for him, all the laughter and friendliness, and the fun at the pool with Pete and Sam mucking round. He smiled when he thought of Pete calling him stud. How much did he mean it, and what did Sam think when he saw his boner? Oh gosh, he'd practically jumped on Peter when they went to do the maths. From now on he resolved it would be Peter who started anything. What would happen when he moved in? They hadn't talked about that yet except for the plan to try out the double bed. It would be over a week before he slept in it himself. Images of Peter lying on it naked kept coming into his head. A computer! Pete said Andrew made it out of parts but it looked brand-new. Maybe it was just the case that was new. Wow, he'd be doing all his writing on it, but that had to wait a week too. Was it really his? Or on a kind of loan? *** Jeremy stood, looking up the street with his thoughts in a whirl, his brain registering every car as it came into view and instantly dismissing anything that wasn't red. His belongings, a suitcase of clothes and three large cardboard cartons of books, journals and electronics magazines, sat on the pavement with his winter jacket sprawled across and his day pack ready for the afternoon at the Bay. Was Pete really going to make him swim non-stop for an hour? He said it was to get him ready for the massage but it sounded more like stirring. There was something strange about the massage too, because Peter smiled when they'd talked about it and said to follow all Sam's instructions. Jeremy thought about Peter's smile, thought about the coaching, and thought about them christening the double bed. What was it going to be like spending the day with Pete and Sam? Pete was going to stir him and it would be more of the `stud' stuff. He'd kept Jeremy both embarrassed and laughing at the same time by involving Sam, telling him what a hot kisser Jeremy was. A red vehicle turned into the road, but it was a delivery truck. Sam was so interesting too and Pete said he was a genius with his artwork. They'd trained together three afternoons during the week and Jeremy liked him more each time. It was amazing how everyone was so friendly. There'd been the same welcome when Peter told him to arrive early for another meal before they started his second night of coaching. The giant guy, Andrew, knew about electronics and said he would help Jeremy with his sound system project. From the way Pete talked it sounded like he could do anything. A red van came into view and with a glow of excitement and anticipation Jeremy laughed when the headlights went on and the hazard lights started flashing. As it halted at the curb a blast of the horn and the sight of the smiles through the windscreen sent Jeremy's heart pounding. Oh boy. This was really happening. The End. Author's Note.
