Chapter Six

I sat there at the table with my mouth wide open staring at Kelsey. I couldn’t believe those words just came out of her mouth.

            “What is it?” She asked.

“I can’t believe you just said that.” I told her.

“Can’t believe what?” I asked her. “Can’t believe that you just went on and on about some “fag” in one of your classes and how someone should beat him and teach him a lesson. You of all people Kels.”

Her facial expression didn’t change. Her brown eyes had a confused look in them because I didn’t agree with her.

If she felt this way about a total stranger in one of her classes, then I am sure she would feel the same way about her best friends.

“So you are standing up for the fags now?” She asked.

“Don’t say that word.” I snapped at her. “It’s not very nice and I don’t like it.”

“Well excuse me for voicing my opinion.” She picked up her tray from the table and walked away from me.

This called for a journal entry. I reached into my book bag and took out my journal. I opened it to an empty page in the back and started writing.

Well, it’s been three days since I wrote in here. I have been extremely busy with classes and getting to know Jamie better. We meet up every morning before class and walk to our first class together. We have two classes together English and college algebra. The one thing that I don’t get is my family and who I thought were my friends. I really haven’t had any desire to talk to my parents. I talked to Kelsey for like the second time since classes have started and things just aren’t the same as they were in high school. She is this closed minded person that thinks that she can go around judging people. She got really mad at me a few minutes ago when she was trashing gay people and I told her that I didn’t see anything wrong with it. She got so mad that she just got up from the table and left. I can only imagine how she takes the news when she finds about me and Jamie.

I turned the page in the front of the book to one of the earlier entries and started reading it.

Christmas was yesterday. It was ok. I have had better. It just felt like something was missing this year. While I was opening presents I wished that Michael from the youth group was there opening them with me. I got a new laptop computer and some clothes. My sister got a car. The one thing I did enjoy was when I went outside in my jacket and beanie that Michael got me for Christmas and sat out in the cold snow for awhile. I wish I were like any normal kid my age and got to go to public school and have friends and have real teachers and not have my mom home school me.

Love always,

Preston Roberts

            “What are you doing?”

I closed my journal and looked up to see Jamie sitting across the table from me.

I smiled at him. “Oh just writing in my journal.”

“Cool.” He looked at me. “What’s wrong? You look like you are in deep thought about something.

“Nothing really. Just made my best friend mad at me.” I took a bite of my cheeseburger before it got any colder.

“And how did you manage that?” Jamie asked while sipping on his mountain dew.

“I stood up for myself.” I replied.

            “How?”

“She was talking bad about gay people and I pretty much told her that she was wrong and doesn’t have the right to judge anyone else.”

“Wow.” Jamie said. “I didn’t know you had it in you.”

I rubbed my feet against his under the table. “I didn’t know I had it in me.”

“What are you doing when you get out of class today?” Jamie asked me.

“Hopefully I can spend some time with this brown haired hazel eyes sexy guy that I know.” I replied with a huge grin on my face.

“Well I wonder who that could be.”

“Guess you had better come over and meet him now hadn’t you.”

I put my journal in the front pouch of my bad where I always kept it.

            “You’re so silly.”

“That’s why you like me.” I leaned my head closer to him and whispered. “I wish I could kiss you right here.”

            “Me too.”

I stood up from the table. “I’ve got to get to my next class which starts in fifteen minutes and I believe yours does to.” I grabbed my book bag and slung it over my shoulder then grabbed my tray. “My place one o’clock be there.”

When I got back to my dorm room, I could hear the television playing through the door. This meant only one thing. Greg was home already.

I opened the door and went in the room. Greg was sitting on his bed with Jena watching a movie on television and Jamie was sitting on my bed watching them. I walked over to my bed and sat my book bag down next to it.

“What are you doing here?” I asked Greg as I sat down on the bed next to Jamie.

“Duh I live here.” He retorted. “And I needed to hang out with my bro.” He nodded his head at Jamie.

“I didn’t mean it like that,” I began in my defense. “It’s just that I thought that you had class today.”

I scooted closer to Jamie on my bed.

“Yeah history. It was cancelled. The professor said she had some kind of conference to go to or something like that.”

“Oh.” I said. “What are you guys watching anyhow?”

“It’s called Legendary.” Jamie replied. “It’s a pretty good movie. I think that you would really like it.”

I looked at him. “You look really cute. I really want to kiss you right now.”

“You look cuter.” He smiled at me. “You are hot.”

Greg and Jena were both watching us.

“Just kiss and get it over with already.” Jena said.

I moved my head closer to Jamie’s and placed my lips on his. I touched my tongue against his lips and they parted for me.

I could feel my penis getting hard so I immediately broke the kiss.

Greg picked up the remote and stopped the movie. “Jen and I are going to go out and give you love birds a little privacy. “

“Sure whatever.” Jamie said as he tossed a pillow at Greg.

“Don’t do anything we wouldn’t do.” Greg said as he and Jenna got off his bed.

            “Whatever dude.” I said.

Greg and Jenna left the room, leaving me and Jamie all alone.

I laid down on my back looking up at the ceiling. Jamie did the same next to me.

“So what do you want to do?” He asked me.

“Doesn’t matter.” I replied.” I just like being with you. I really really like you.”

            “I like you too Preston.”

I rolled over on my side and put my arm around Jamie and pulled him closer to me. I kissed him on his cheek.

“Um so I want to ask you something and you can’t laugh.”

He rolled over on his side so that he was looking me right in my eyes.

I smiled. “You just had to turn and face me and make this much more difficult than it is didn’t ya.”

            “Make what difficult?” He asked.

I grabbed his left hand with my right. “I really like you Jamie and I don’t want you to be with anyone else. I mean I know I have only known you for a week, but I like you and feel great when I am around you and want to know if you will be my boyfriend.”

            “Are you serious?”

            I nodded my head.

He grabbed me and kissed me.

“I take that as a yes.” I asked.

            He nodded his head.

“I wanted to ask you. I just didn’t know how you felt about me or how you felt about having a boyfriend.”

My phone went off letting me know that I had a new text message. I picked it up from my bedside table and I looked at it and saw it was from Kelsey. I opened the message and read it.

Im sorry for my little tirade earlier.

It’s fine. I just don’t like judging people it’s not right I don’t care if they are gay straight or who they are.

I’ll make it up to you sometime. I promise.

Ok.

I sat my phone back down on the table.

“I can’t believe she apologized.” I told Jamie.

            “Who?

“My friend Kelsey and I got in this huge argument right before you came and ate lunch with me. She was trashing gay people and I stood up to her. She got mad and left. She just sent me a message and apologized to me. I can’t believe it.” I explained to him.

“That’s cool.” Jamie said. “Do you think you will ever be able to tell her about us?”

“I hope so. I just don’t know how she will react. She apologized and all but if I were to tell her, and she took it wrong and all she would tell my parents and then they would find and all hell would break loose.”

Jamie started rubbing his fingers through my hair. It felt nice and relaxing.

“Do you think we could tell at least Greg and Jenna that we are officially a couple since they already sorta know about us anyhow?”

I looked at him and smiled. “What do you think?”

He looked at me with a confused look on his face.

“I’d say Greg knows by now. I sent him a text after I got done texting Kelsey earlier.”

Jamie kissed me on the cheek.

“You are awesome.” He told me.

“Ok what do you want to do we are going to wear each other out with flattery.” I joked.

“Um how about we go get something to each.” Jamie suggested patting his belly. “I am starved my biology class wore me out.”

            “Yeah sounds good.”

I reached over and picked up my phone. “That’s weird.”

“What?” Jamie asked as he looked over my shoulder.

“It shows that I have three new texts and one missed call. I never heard it ring or anything.”

I looked at the missed call and saw it was from Kelsey then I saw the text were from her too. I also just happened to look in my sent messages and saw something that I wasn’t ready for.

            “Oh no.”

“What is it?” Jamie asked with a look of concern on my face.

I handed him my phone. “Read the text that I sent.”

He read the text out loud. “Thanks a lot for introducing me and Jamie. I just asked him to be my boyfriend and he said yes.” He looked at me. “You told me you sent Greg a message and told him about us.”

“Look at who it’s too though.”

He looked closer at the message and a look of concern spread across his face. “Oh. This isn’t good. Is it?”

            “I don’t think so. I can’t believe I did that.”

Jamie kept looking at my phone. “It’s an easy mistake. Her number is 1647 and Greg’s is 1547.”

            “I know.”

There was a knock on the dorm door. Jamie looked at me. I didn’t move.

“You want me to get it?” He asked.

            I nodded my head.

He got up and walked over to the door and opened it. He didn’t get it open good before Kelsey pushed him out of the way and pushed her way into the room.

“Did I get that message right?” She shouted. “You have a boyfriend now? You turned me down all those times because you are a fag!”

All I could do was sit there. I didn’t know what to say or do.
