Date: Wed, 26 Feb 2003 18:19:57 -0500 From: Dave H. Subject: Problems with Romance Chapter 7 (section-college) Author's Note: Ok. So this is my first try at writing a story. Hopefully some of you out there will read this and hopefully like it some bit. This story is not one of those "Oh. ha ha. I dropped the soap. I guess I'll have to pick it up" stories. It's just about a college guy trying to find the right person. So if that disinterests you, you should stop reading. Otherwise, read on. The story may be a little slow, but it will eventually pick up around the following parts to come. If you have any comments, e-mail me at Streyn@hotmail.com Thanks to all the people who have been e-mailing me. It's good to know people are actually reading this. This story is completely fictional. So any similarities you may see are purely coincidental. In other words, don't bite my ass off if it just so happens that you're life just happens to be exactly like the one in this story. Also, if you are under age or it is illegal for you to be reading this, then go away now. Don't want you reading something you shouldn't now. Also, if these kinds of stories are not to your liking, you should leave as well. -------------- CHAPTER 7 "Hi Dave." "What are you doing here? Why did you come here? Can't you see it's snowing? I don't even know how you made it here alive. How'd you know where I live anyways?" "I got the directions from Jeff. Anyways, this couldn't wait. But, you think I could come in first? It is kind of cold outside." Should I let him in? If you haven't figured it out by now, Will was right there, standing in front of me in the freezing cold. What did I have to lose by letting him in? Well, my pride. Just treat him like he treated you. "I guess. Come in." "Thanks." He took his coat off. "You have a really nice house. It's a lot bigger than mine." "Yah, sure, whatever." "Look, can we talk?" "Why bother? I already know what you have to say. Besides, you interrupted our dinner." "So then why did you let me in?" Why did I let him in? I could have been the cold heartless bastard just like him and left him at the door. Then he would have felt just like I did. But I was better than that. I could hear a yell from the dining room. "Dave, who is it? We walked into the dining room. "This is my fr...this is Will. He goes to college up in Boston with me." "Oh, it's nice to finally meet a friend of Dave's. Come. Sit down. Have some food. Any friend of Dave's is welcome to eat with us." Just hearing `a friend of Dave's' pissed me off. He wasn't a friend. "Not really a friend mom. More like of an acquaintance. Besides he was just leaving? Right Will?" "David Cordais, you are not going to let that boy go out and drive at a time like this. I'm wondering how he got here in the first place. So, Will, what brings you by?" "Oh, I just needed to talk to Dave. He...um...he sort of left Boston without letting me tell him something. And it's kind of important, so I guess I just came here as soon as possible." "That's nice. So where are you from? Virginia? D.C.? Gaithersburg?" "Baltimore." "Baltimore? That's a pretty long drive. Must be important." Mom just couldn't stop talking to him. I really couldn't stand him in my sight. Here he was, the guy I could hardly stop thinking of, but now that he was there, I could wish of nothing more than for him to leave. "Um, mom, dad, I'll be back. Will and I are just going up to my room to talk about a few things." "Ok then, but don't go too long. Your food will get cold. And Will, you're welcome to stay for dinner if you want." "Thanks Mrs. Cordais." I couldn't help but think that this wasn't good. I hoped my family hadn't suspected anything from that horrible conversation. Sofia looked confused. I never told her what happened with Will. I tugged on Will's shirt telling him to follow me. We went upstairs, got into my room, and I locked the door. "Keep it down. I don't want my parents to hear us talking." "Nice room." "Cut the bullshit. Why are you here?" "Sorry. I was just trying to compliment you." "Look, you're not exactly on my good side right now. So if you want to say something, say it. If not, leave my house. Please. I really can't talk or see you right now. I just can't stand you. I just..." The memories were rushing through my head. How he made me so happy, and then made me feel like shit. The punch. Midway through my sentence, I just started to cry. I didn't care. I hoped he saw how much he hurt me. "Dave, can we sit down?" I didn't look at him. I just lied down in my bed, facing the wall. I could feel him sitting down, next to me on my bed. "I was scared." Scared? What did he mean, scared? "What's the supposed to mean?" "Ever since that day in the park, I began to think about us. I mean, I was actually gay. You were the first guy I was ever with, I had ever kissed. And now, the idea of being close to you scared me. Look, almost everyone on this earth has been raised to think homosexuality is bad. It's not natural. So when I had this relationship with you, I began to think, well, doesn't this contradict everything I have learned? So I got scared. I had to run away from you. I couldn't talk to you, speak to you, or be with you because I had to forget you. I figured forgetting you would mean that I wouldn't be gay anymore." "And what about me? You don't think I thought about all of this? I felt just as scared. But I loved you. I loved you." I loved him. Why did he have to hurt me? "I guess I just felt that no one else could help me. Look at you. You have Sofia, your sister. She knows, and she understands. But I have no one. My brother, my parents. They don't know." "So what? You think it's so easy for me, don't you? Well, news flash. It's not." "I know. Well I know now." "So then why did you punch me?" "Because I needed you to forget about me. I thought if you didn't like me anymore and forgot about me too, then it wouldn't make things as hard on me. I'm really sorry I hurt you so much. But believe me, it hurt a lot more for me to hurt you than you think." "So then what!? You're sooo sorry. Then why don't I feel better? What made you change your mind anyways?" "Well, I was actually on the same flight as Xavier. We were both flying to Baltimore on the same flight. The moment I sat down, he told me how bad you felt, how hurt you were. He almost lectured me the whole flight. And it made me feel like shit. Here I was, with you, this perfect guy. I had this perfect thing going. I ran away. And you tried everything you could to fix things. And I just brushed you off. I punched you. I DID treat you like shit. I fucked this whole thing up. But there are no words to tell you how much I am sorry for what I did. I didn't care about the snow. Once I got home, I just told my parents that I had to see a friend, and I drove as quickly as I could to see you... I'm sorry. I'm sorry." He put his hand on my shoulder and made me look at him. "I'm sorry. Please forgive me. I can't live without you. I need you." What was I supposed to do? Just forgive him? "I know I've done all these shitty things to you. And I'll understand if you hate me. It's ok. I really didn't mean to hurt you. I hope one day you can forgive me." And he walked out of my room. I could hear him say good bye to my family downstairs. I hated this! I couldn't just forgive him. Was he really being genuine? Would he hurt me again? I couldn't let him go without asking him. I ran as fast as I could downstairs, put on my sneakers and went outside. Shit, he was already starting to drive off. With no jacket, I just ran as fast as I could to catch up with his car. "Will!!!!!!" The car stopped. I ran to the car. Shit it was cold. He rolled down the window. "Are you crazy?! Get in!" I got into the car. Out of breath, I could hardly manage saying anything. "Well, I'm only crazy for you." "Dave. I'm sorry." "Enough sorry's! Just promise me this one thing, next time you have a problem, come talk to me." He was crying and smiling at the same time. "Of course." "Will, even when I wasn't with you, I couldn't stop thinking about you. And I still really like you. I don't know why. I should be hating you right now. But I just can't. Will, I love you." "Dave." We sat there as the car engine was running. We were both so happy again. He reached over and took me into his arms. Hugging me with a tight grip as if he was never going to let go. After he finally let go a bit, he kissed me. I could still feel the tears on his face as our mouths touched. "I promise I'll never do this to you again." "I have to get back into the house. My parents will be wondering why I ran out of the house all of a sudden. You want to come back in with me?" "No, it's better that I don't. Besides, I probably wouldn't be able to keep my eyes off you." "You're not backing out again, are you?" "Dave, no! I told you, I wouldn't do that." "Ok. I guess. Are you sure?? It's not safe to be driving in this weather." "It's ok Dave. I'll be ok. Really!" "Fine. But drive safely!" "Of course. One more kiss before I go?" Our lips touched again. "Bye." I ran back into the house. Ok, compose yourself. Don't want parents getting suspicious. I tried to act as naturally as possible. "Ok. So, did I miss anything?" "You? How about us? Why did you run out of the house all of a sudden?" Shit. "Um, he forgot his wallet. Can't drive without a wallet, right?" Whew, good save. "So, let's eat." My whole family looked confused. But oh well, I didn't think they suspected anything. My room was upstairs and far enough that our conversation couldn't be heard. So, we just had a normal family dinner. It began to snow really hard after a few minutes. Nice winter wonderland. We cleaned up. My parents did the dishes, as Allison, Sofia and I cleaned the table off. After we were done, I went up to my room. Not long after, Sofia came up. "So what exactly happened? And how come you were like two different people. You went upstairs all weird and then you came back to dinner all happy. What went on these past few weeks?" "It's a long story. But basically, he got scared, we go back to college, he avoids me, I look frantically for him, I finally find him, he punches me, I'm hurt, get back here and we made up." "He punched you???? What's all that about? And how come you never told me?" "I didn't really feel like talking about the subject anymore. It just made me sad thinking about how I thought Will didn't like me anymore. And plus, the bruise I had reminded me enough about the whole thing. Anyways, it turns out Xavier saved everything." "Xavier? I thought he wasn't ok with you being gay." "When I got back, we eventually had a talk. He told me that he felt jealous about Will's and my relationship together." So then I told her the story. During which she kept making all these surprised looks and stuff. When I finished, she just said, "Well, just make sure Will doesn't act like that again." "I'm sure, I made sure of that in the car with him." "That's good; anyways, I'm going to leave you know. Off to think about my own relationship. I'm glad you patched things up with everybody. "Yah." After she left, I picked up the phone. I just had to call Xavier and thank him for talking to Will. "Hi, is Xavier there?" "This is he. Dave? Is that you? I need to tell you something. It's about Will." "I already know." "You do?" "Will drove over here after he landed. He told me how you two were on the same flight. And I just want to say, Thank you so much. You really are my best friend." "Well, I couldn't just let him sit there. He had to know how you took everything. I couldn't stand how unhappy you were. So I just lectured him for the whole plane ride. He didn't say anything. He had been and asshole and I made sure he saw that. I think I almost made him cry." "Looks like it worked. He finally thought things over and then came to tell me how sorry he was. He was really sorry. It seems whatever you said really hit him hard." "He deserved it." "At least now we are back together." "That's good." "What's wrong? You don't sound to enthused about it?" "No, I think it's great that you two are back together now. I was just thinking that..." "What?" "Nothing. Forget it. Anyways, you owe me a Christmas present now. Looks like I already gave you mine." "Yah, Will was a great Christmas present. Um, we could probably hang out next week. What do you think?" "That would be great." "Hold on Xav. There's someone calling on the other line. Can I call you back some other time?" "Yah, sure. Ok! Talk to you later." I pressed flash on the phone. "Hello?" "Hi, Dave? Is that you?" "Jeff? Yah, do you want to talk to Sofia?" "I'm really freaking out over here. So are my parents." "What's the problem?" "Do you know where Will is? He told me he was heading to your house. It seemed really urgent." "No, he left my house two and a half hours ago. I'm pretty sure he should be there by now. Why?" "He isn't here! I'm really worried. Do you think he went anywhere else? Another friend's house? A club? Bar? Anywhere?" Shit. I told him not to drive. I should have forced him to stay here. And now he was missing. This is all my fault. "No. I don't know. Shit. Maybe he was driving slow. And it will take him a bit longer to get there." Something. Anything. There had to be a reason why he wasn't home yet. "Wait, hold on. I've got a call coming in. Stay on the line, ok?" Jeff said panicking. "Yah." I heard a click. What is wrong with me? Why did I let him go? Why was this happening to me, right after we finally got back together?? Why? "Dave? Dave? Are you there?" "Yah Jeff. I'm here. What's happening now?" "They found Will. He was in a car crash. He's in the hospital." -------------------------------------- Endnote: Ok. Hope you liked this chapter. It's a little short I know, but oh well. Thanks to those of you who have been e-mailing me.
