Chapter 27 Book 2 part 8 I watched in disbelief as when Judak approached the console to talk to the fleet of Krile ships surrounding us, he disappeared. "Shit! Where's he gone?" I asked and everyone looked a little concerned. "They've transported him off our ship," Billa replied. "You think?" Craig replied sarcastically. Suddenly the cabin filled with a white light and all went quiet, I awoke on a soft surface, but the place was bathed in an ultraviolet light. It took some time to focus. "Hey," I heard someone whisper. I looked up and saw Billa and Lacka but no Craig. "Where are we and where is Craiglessty?" I asked a little disoriented "We don't know," Billa replied. "I think Judak has sold us out," Billa piped up. "I doubt that; Lakkin-Do trusted him, and so does Craig," I replied. "Shh someone's coming," responded Billa. We sat up and I noticed we were in a glass sided cell, I could hear a low electric sound humming. I was about to touch the front wall. "Stop don't touch the sides; there is a force field and it has a hell of a kick," warned Lacka. We watched a guard come into the, what we thought was a brig of some sort. He had a trolley with food and drinks, he told us to stand back he placed his hand on the panel and the humming stopped, he pushed the trolley and stepped back and placed his hand back on the panel and the humming returned. "Why are we prisoners?" Lacka asked. "You are not prisoners, you are in protective custody," he replied and left. "What are we being protected from?" Craig yelled. "Craig, where are you we cannot see you." "The next cell over, I am alone, I've just woken up, fuck! my head hurts," he replied "Billa thinks Judak sold us out," I said and he just laughed. "I trust him with my life," Craig replied. "Craig, you were away for almost five years, you do not know what or who he was involved with," I replied. "No but I do, and Craiglessty is right, Judak would not betray us like this, there has to be a good explanation, besides, the guard said we were in protective custody," Lacka replied. "We just have to wait," Craig added. And wait we did, almost 8 hours before we saw anyone again, the guard came back and placed his hand on the panel again and again the humming stopped. "Follow me, please," he smiled and we stood up and followed him out of the brig and into a well-lit but still ultraviolet passage. "Lord Judak will be with you as soon as he is finished with the pro console," he added and left the room. "Lord Judak" Lacka smiled "He was a farm hand less than 15 days ago, now he is a lord," he added. "It wasn't long ago I was a student in Washington DC and Craig my roommate, things tend to change very quickly, don't they?" I sort of snickered. "Yes, my Ro-Lok, they do at that," Craig smiled and my groin responded. "Hey, you all okay?" Judak said as he came through the door, and stood near a desk. "Yeah, why did you vanish and why were we held prisoner in cells for hours, old friend?" Craig said in a pissed off way. I could see he was none too happy with his long-time friend. "I was transported off, as they assumed I had been taken captive, they have spies or should I say we have spies along the space boundaries and they are monitoring those ships we came across," he replied. "Well, why were we taken?" I asked. "They fired on you... Sorry..they assumed you were spies and ... well they destroyed your ship, Billa, I am sorry... So they transported you straight to the holding cells," he added. "I don't understand, we are not at war with you... Litral has ill intensions, but we do not... Judak, you know we are trying to prevent a war," Lacka scorned. "Yes, and I have explained that... I am their leader, now. Lord Lakkin-do chose me to represent him as their leader... it's all new to me," he replied and took his seat behind a very ornate desk. "My lord, the woman you seek has been located in the east of our main city, she is being brought here now, sir," a smartly dressed man in red satin said as he stood beside Judak. "You should stop that, Judak, we do not know who is watching and you might place her in some danger," Billa replied. "Sir I can assure you she will be safe, we will transport her here directly," the man responded Meanwhile back on Lokite... "Major, come in," Levert said as Major Barnes entered his home office. "Levert you are looking well," he said, gesturing asking in silence if it was all clear to talk and Levert saying to follow him. "Thank you, Major. As are you, how's Mary and the little one?" he continued the conversation while walking into a safe room that Levert knew was clear of any listening devices. "Have you heard from them yet?" Major Barnes asked "Not since yesterday. I have a rough idea where they are heading and perhaps an old friend will help them," he replied, knowing full well that Judak would come through in a pinch. "You said something about a woman, a nun of sorts," Major Barnes enquired more. "She is Dallam's sister, but was disowned by Litral and that is as much as we know," Levert replied. "Okay back into the other room," Levert said not wanting to raise any more suspicions from Litral or his followers. "Yes, Levert we would love to come for Dinner, I will let Mary know as soon as I get back to our quarters" Major Barnes said, re-entering the office. "Great, and we need to keep in touch, after all we are family," Levert said as Major Barnes left the room. An Hour later, in the offices of the senate high council and at the desk of Litral "Anything?" he asked his head of security. "Sir, I am not too sure, all my contact would say was there ship was destroyed on approach to the Krile home world, no mention of survivors," Bide replied. "No, they're alive. I can feel it, check again," Litral demanded. "And do you have a location of my sister, yet?" Litral asked. "Yes sir, she was being transported to the Krile imperium but our operatives intercepted her, she is on her way to an outpost, we will find him, sir, and when we do?" Bide asked. "All I am interested in is the device...Kill them both when you have it," Litral replied with little emotion. "Sir," Bide replied and left the room. Meanwhile back on Krile... "What do you mean she never came through?" Judak cursed at the Man in Satin "Sir, the transport beam was diverted, we are trying to trace it right now," he replied. "Is this the same diversion that your operatives used to divert Bobby and myself?" asked Craig, and I knew the answer before he gave it. "It is our technology, yes," he replied. "But commerce dictates that everything has a price, so they have obtained it somehow, we will look into that, also," the man replied. "Judak they have Dallam's sister, if she knows where he is, they will get it from her," Lacka informed him. "It's his sister, no matter what falling out has happened, she is still his sister," The satin man added. "Litral is all about pure blood lines, she is his half-sister, so she is disposable as is Dallam, but for other reasons," Lacka added. "If he gets Dallam, he gets the device, and we know what happens then, don't we?" Craig stuck his opinion into the mix. "Device?" the satin man enquired. "Yes it's sort of temporal distortion gizmo," I added. "The Kidlamak, you are talking about the Kidlamak" the satin man said and we turned and just stared at him. "The Kidlamak is a myth, we were told of this as children, a god bestowed it on our ancestors as a deterrent, if we made a mess of things the god would return and reset history a do over if you will, but it's just a story," he said a bit sceptical. "Well, my satin friend, it seems to be a real device and Litral is after it, he wants to do as you say... Re-set history," Judak replied. "Do we even know what it looks like?" Lacka asked. "Well, if it is a real thing and the stories are true, it's not something that can be just turned on, he has to have all the correct elements to make it work," the satin man added. "For fuck sake, and what, pray tell, does that mean?" I piped in. "It's not just the device that makes it work, you have to have the right bloodline," he added, and that just made things a little more complicated. "And whose bloodline?" I asked hoping he was not going to say Litral's family "Pure Krile" he replied. "Well, I am assuming most of your planet is pure Krile," I responded. "No, we are not originally from this world, we came here a few millennia ago, the original Krile were primitive and most died out, only a few hundred remain in isolation," he replied. "Columbus and the Indians," I replied, and Craig nodded in agreement. "Sorry, what is Columbus and the Indians?" asks Judak. "Columbus was an explorer and when he found land, well, let's just say it didn't work out too good for the Indians. "Okay, so Litral, we will assume, knows he needs a pure blood Krile to operate the device, so what else does he need?" Craig asked. "If my memory serves me right, he needs the god or a representative of that order to join with the device," he added. "That's why he tried to capture Lord Lakkin-Do on Lokite, he is the line of succession, therefore the god he needs, to implement his plan, he had my father construct a defence shield, but really like it showed on Earth, it was a containment field...fuck!!!!" bemoaned Craig. "Judak, where is Lakkin-do now?" Lacka asked. "I do not know; he just appears when he needs to," Judak responded. "We still need to find Dallam," I said and Craig looked at me and smiled. "Bobby is right, if we find Dallam, we can stop this before Litral has a chance, he has the upper hand as he has his sister, that is assuming she knows where Dallam is," Billa added as we stand to leave. "We need a transport, not beamed we need to go where you found the sister and start from there," I added. "CSI?" Craig asks "Yeah," I snickered just a tad. "Arrange that, will you?" Judak instructed the satin man and he left the room. "I am coming with you," Judak added "Judak you can't, if you come your security will have to come with you, that will draw too much attention and we need stealth not anarchy," Lacka informed his friend. "Just be ready if we need help, you know for a fact now that Litral has people here, seek them out," Lacka added and Judak nodded as we left the room and followed the satin man to our waiting transport. "I have set the coordinates into the guidance system, just follow the route and it will point you in the right direction, and there is a small weapons locker under that console," the satin man informed and pointed at the console in question. "Good luck, sir's" he said as the door closed. "Okay, guys, here goes nothing," Billa replied as the engines started first time, that must have been new to him; I smiled. Billa knew that something was wrong as soon as they left the city. "This does not feel right, I have not flown a shuttle like this one, but even I know the engines do not sound right," he said and we looked at him with concern. Meanwhile back in Litral's office. "So you are sure, they are alive?" he asked Bide. "Yes, sir, my contact stated he put them on a ship heading for your sister's previous location, he also tampered with the engine, it should shut down a few miles outside the city" he smirked. "Good, make sure your contact is with the team that goes to look for survivors, I want confirmation of their deaths," Litral demanded. To be continued... Okay guys, sorry this took so long, I have had some health issues with my diabetes and my eyesight went wonky for a while, but all is better now and throwing myself into catching up on all of my stories, hope you are still enjoying my little adventure and like the development.
