I had no idea what to expect. This would be my first time to live away from home, and I was petrified. My roommate had not arrived yet, but from the letter I got from the housing department, I wasn't expecting him for another two days. Classes didn't start until the following week, but I wanted to arrive early. I was ready to get the heck out of the really small town I had just spent the last 17 years of my life in. I was ready to move to the city, even though most people would consider Pueblo, CO, a really small city. It was a big city as far as I was concerned. I guess I should tell you a little about myself, huh? Well, my name is Bryce Howard. I'm 17 years old and stand 6'4. I am, by no stretch of the mind, a small guy. I weigh 195lbs of solid muscle. I don't have an ounce of fat on me. Most of the girls in my high school were always drooling over me, and I couldn't stand it. Yes, I'm gay. I grew up on a big farm on the plains of southern Colorado. I'm no stranger to hard work, but at the same time, I'm still way in the closet. Growing up in such a small community, I couldn't just look openly for a guy to fool around with. I spent most of the first day, unpacking and getting to know the campus. I was fortunate enough to have saved up enough growing up, that I just bought a truck, so I had a way to go to the local Wal-Mart and buy me a computer and whatever else I might need. I spent the next day setting up my computer and rearranging the room to how I liked it. Finally, it was the day I was dreading the most. The day my roommate was supposed to show up. I was scared like a baby calf, but I knew if I showed my fear, that would be a sign of weakness, and I'm far from weak. I was the captain of the wrestling team, which is how I was able to go to college, the captain for the basketball team, and the pitcher for the baseball team. I tried my hand at football, but decided that it wasn't for me. It wasn't till around 1pm when he showed up. At first, I didn't see his face, he had his arms piled full of his stuff. I immediately got up and started to help him unload stuff from his hands. "Thanks, that's a big help!" He said. "Not a problem," I replied. "I'm Tony," he introduced himself. "I'm Bryce." I responded. Even though his hands were full he still tried to shake my hand, and in the process, he dropped everything he had left in his arms. "Shit," he yelled out, as most of the heavy objects he was carrying, was dropped on his bare feet, considering he was wearing sandals. I bent over and started to pick up the items on the floor. I happened to notice some magazines that had fallen. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. They were of naked men! I was saved. I didn't have to worry about what he thought of me. Seeing those magazines helped me out a lot. I was so terrified that he, my roommate, would be some small town homophobe, like what I'm used to. Boy was I wrong, but one thing I learned over the years was not to bring those types of things up. I would just let that matter come about by itself. I had a feeling my first year of college was going to be a good one, as I smiled to myself. To Be Continued . . .
