Chapter 3: As I sat there holding Chase's hands in mine, there was a knock on the door. "Aaron, can I come in?" My little brother Jamie asked. "Sure squirt." I muttered. "Hi Chase, I didn't know you were here." He said, staring at Chase. "Um...yea, hi Jamie." Chase said with a sigh. "Jamie, did you want something?" I asked. "I wanted to see if you could help me with my homework?" I then realized that I was still holding Chase's hands, and I quickly released them. "Did I interrupt something?" Jamie finally asked. "Chase has had a rough time lately," I explained, "so he's going to stay here for a bit." "Whatever," Jamie replied. "Will you help me or not?" That was my 11 year old brothers favorite new word, "whatever." "Ok, go get your books." "That was almost a disaster." Chase said, just as Jamie came back in. Jamie's problem this time was fractions, so I spent the next half hour helping him, when my mother called up for him to come downstairs. After Jamie left, I placed my hand on Chase's shoulder and turned him towards me. I then took his head in my hands and looked at him for a moment. "What?" He said finally, breaking me out of my trance. "Nothing, I just feel like I need to protect you and love you in a way you never have been before." "What do you mean love?" He asked questioningly. I started to turn beet red, embarrassed by what I said. I turned away from him quickly, but then it was Chase's turn to turn me towards him. Not meaning to overhear, my mother knocked on the door. "Boys, dinner is almost ready and your father will be home any minute."
