The began spending a lot more time together in and out of school. The bell rang one Thursday afternoon releasing them from the boring drag of a school day. Christy stood outside the school rounding up the girls for cheerleading practice as Evan and Max walked out to where the buses were the two were knocking each other around and laughing, in the pit of her stomach she knew something was wrong. She used to look into Evan's eyes and see perfection, an untamed love, and a determination to do anything for her, she didn't see that anymore. It was like he was unhappy to be with her, but he glowed whenever Max was around. What the hell is going on? She thought to herself she felt her eyes glowing with rage and jealousy. Her concentration broke as her fellow cheerleaders tapped her on the shoulder and went to gym to practice. Evan was making his way to the men's locker room which was generally in the same directions. "Baby," She called to Evan he looked up briefly as she ran to his side. "Hey hun," He said meekly. "Nothing much. I'm really excited for this week's game. The first home game and first game of the season." She said gripping his arm in glee. "Yep. I'm pretty excited." He stated without emotion. He came to the men's locker room entrance and Christy began walking to the women's locker room. "Oh! Don't forgot you're taking me home after practice." She said with a smile. Evan quickly returned the smile and walked into the locker room. The hours of practice went by and after the coach reminded everyone about the two remaining practices until Friday night's game the team left to the locker room pretty sore. The guys filed into the shower and then soon steam began to fill the room. Everything was normal. Evan stripped like everyone else and went into the showers taking his place next to Riley. For the first time he noticed Riley's body. He wasn't small by any stretch of the imagination, his biceps were fairly big and he pecs lorded over his tight six pack, all merging into a perfect V pointing down to trimmed pubes and a flaccid 5" cut penis. Evan caught his mind wandering as he started to bone up. He turned quickly under the flow of water and stood under it. "Don't act like I didn't see that." Riley said sternly. "Shit. Dude, I'm sorry I didn't mean to...I mean I don't usually do that...I" Evan said stammering. "Do what pop a boner? Dude if I had a girl as hot as Christy I would also think about her body." Riley said. Evan silently let out a gasp of relief. What is going on with me?" The rest of the shower was quiet, well kind of the guys were whooping and hollering and snapping each other with towels. Evan's hard on was far gone by now so he turned off the water and wrapped his towel around his waist. He walked the few feet to his locker and began to dry off when he felt three guys behind him. Evan turned around and was face to face with Darren Walker and his two goons Sal Leboski and Jared Hardt. "Hey there Evan, how's your boyfriend." Darren poked at Evan. He tried his best to let the words role off his back. "Too bad about Christy, rumor has it you guys are fairly close to splitting up, and when you do," Darren was dangerously close to Evan's ears so that no one over heard him. "I am going to fuck her like she always wanted. We all know you're a fag." That was it. The anger exploded in Evan causing a chain reaction, he got up and slammed Darren against the lockers the entire room was quiet. "Listen to me you fucking parasite. You stay the hell away from her!" Evan said, the rage swirled around in his eyes and Darren just smiled. "That's hard to do seeing that she's already made several passes at me. And several of those times I was more than happy to oblige." That was all Darren could say before Evan fist crashed into his jaw. "Dude! Stop it's not worth it!" Riley said running up to break up the fight. Evan continued to wail on Darren, Riley grabbed his shoulder and pulled him back separating the two but not before the coach heard the ruckus. "Hey! Break it up! What the hell is going on?" The coach demanded. "Lonzo get dressed and get your ass in my office." The guys in the locker room got dressed and left quickly to avoid any trouble. "You two," The coach called to Darren's boys, "Get him cleaned up, and you better be here when I get back." The coach walked back to his office and a fully clothed Evan followed close behind. The door shut behind them and the Coach looked at Evan angrily. "What the hell was that?" He asked. "And don't bullshit me." "You should have heard what he was saying, Coach. If you would have heard you would understand why I damn near beat the shit out of him." Evan said. "Watch your mouth!" The coach said getting to his feet. " I don't care what he said or what you said I don't need this kind of shit on my team. Now consider this a warning! Now get out of here." Evan left without putting up a fight and still pissed, he went into the locker room grabbed his bag and left not giving a second look to Darren. Evan pulled out his phone and saw several missed calls from Christy and a text from Max. He walked to the student parking lot expecting to see Christy there but she was nowhere to be found. He walked to his car and called her back. "Baby what happened? I was waiting for you for ten minutes and you didn't show." Christy asked surprisingly calm. "Darren ran his fucking mouth, said some things that he shouldn't have said. I damn near beat the shit out of him and coach pulled me into his office." Evan said seething. "What did he say?" Christy asked anticipating the answer. She had ulterior motives for Evan that he didn't know existed. "He's still allowing me to play, he gave me a warning." Evan said. "Good. Baby, don't let whatever he said get to you." Just then Evan thought to what Darren said. Had Christy really cheated on him? Tonight was not the night to find out the answer to that. "I won't. I love you baby." Evan said softly. He hung up the phone before Christy could say the same and drove home. Evan as distraught as he was tried to put the words of Darren out of his mind, he wanted to love Christy, and he did but it was quickly fading away. He went home and his mother called to him telling him that his dinner was in the microwave. "I'm not hungry." He said quickly and went directly to his room. The thoughts of Christy with Darren, touching him, kissing him with the same passion that she kissed Evan with made him go crazy. Evan shuffled around some old papers on his desk and found his own drawing book. He stared at it with longing, picked it up and began flipping through the pages delicately. He found a blank page and reached for a pencil and began to draw. He didn't really care what he was drawing but when he was done he looked at it, it was Max. Evan couldn't help but smile, despite the evening's events. The days passed quickly with tension between Evan and Christy growing to a breaking point, with Darren adding to the tension whenever he could. Darren has hated Evan since he was deemed captain of the team the previous year. He knew he was the next one up if Evan ended up out of the game, for good. Friday came with a rush of excitement through the town local stores plastered with signs and posters that read "GO RATTLESNAKES", the students of Frederick Norton Freeman High wore blue and gold to show their school spirit for the first home game. The school was abuzz with everyone making plans for the night's entertainment. Evan however wasn't feeling any of the school spirit at all. He walked through the halls silently and headed to his first class, he wasn't talkative or loud like most of his friends but he wasn't quiet either yet today he was extremely silent. Riley would occasionally ask him if he was okay and Evan would just dismiss it with a weak smile. After his first round of classes Evan dodged into the school library to get some studying done. His astronomy class was kicking his ass royally, he sat quietly and did some a little bit of work and then let out a sigh frustration which caught the ear of the librarian who told him politely to keep quiet. "What's wrong?" A voice said behind him. The body moved closer to him and it only took a couple of seconds to realize it was Max behind him. "Ooh Astronomy, my favorite subject." He said sitting next to him. Evan subconsciously inhaled deeply, he smelt Max's cologne. He savored the smell. "Dude did you just smell me?" Max asked with a sly smile. "Psh! No dude, I just happened to smell it your cologne." Evan said covering his tracks to the best of his abilities. "It isn't cologne, its body wash." Max let out a soft giggle. "So what are you having trouble with maybe I can help." "It's the constellation, they all look the same to me and I just can't tell the difference." Evan said being dramatic and burying his head in his hands. Max chuckled lightly. "Okay? Here let's try this what is this one?" Max said pointing to what was obvious to him as the Big Dipper. "Umm, it's...uh...." Evan said trying to figure it out. "Wow you do need help. That's the Big Dipper." Max said. "Random and unrelated question:" Evan stated. Max looked up with his smile that seemed to make a room brighter "Are you going to tonight's game?" "Of course I am, my mom is gonna drop me off and I'll meet up with some of my other friends." Max said, they shared a smile and continued to try and work. About 25 minutes passed until the bell rang t signify the end of lunch. "Maybe this will work better if we do some field work." Max said thinking to himself. "Field work?" Evan asked not really understanding what Max had meant. "I mean letting you see the constellations with your own eyes, it helped me and now I love it." Max said standing up. "So, how about we head down to the beach after the game?" "Yea, that sounds like a plan and I don't know if I have to bring Christy with me or not." He said his voice faltering a little. "It's okay." Max smiled. "I'll see you later." Max walked away from the table and into the busy hallway disappearing amongst the students. The day went on and the time counted down until school let out, the football players, cheerleaders, and most of the students stayed around the campus and jeered the other team when they arrived. The Rattlesnakes took the time before the game to run some specific plays and get themselves primed as did the cheerleaders, the coaches released them for dinner and reminded them to keep it light. They vacated the respective locker rooms and clumped into little groups to go eat. Riley and Evan stood at his car waiting for Christy, while they made small talk Evan took the opportunity to make sure he had everything, he patted himself down and did a mental checklist, Wallet? Check. Keys? Check. Phone. Where is it? He thought to himself. "Shit. I forgot my keys in the locker room. I'll be back, if Christy shows up just tell her I'll be back." He said as he began to walk towards the gym. He barely heard Riley reply. A couple of minutes later he arrived in the locker room, all was quiet except for the sound of the showers running, and stem bellowing out of the shower area. He heard faint groans and chuckled to himself thinking that some lucky fellow was getting his rocks off, then he heard another, a different voice, a woman's voice, he chuckled softly again and grabbed his phone, closing his locker lightly as not to distract the lovers, before he left his curiosity got the best of him, as the moans got louder between the couple their voices began to become more distinguishable but he couldn't tell for sure. He peered in as the female hit her climax. "Christy! What the hell!" Evan yelled in anger when he finally saw her face, her wet hair framing her face. "Hey buddy." Darren said with a sly, smug smile on his face. "Fuck you both!" Evan said as he made his way angrily to the exit, like lightning Christy wrapped a towel around herself and ran after him grabbing his arm before he reached the exit. "Baby, wait it wasn't what you thought." She said pleading. He angrily yanked himself free. "Oh that's total bullshit and you know it! He told me, and I didn't want to believe because I thought you would respect my decision and not have sex with you, so you go behind my back with HIM!! So sure it wasn't what I thought because you weren't either. And since we're on this subject, I've been looking for a reason to break up with you." He said angrily, he hardly noticed Darren standing wrapped in a towel with the same smug look. Christy's face fell into a look of shock and then anger. "Don't pretend like you didn't realize we were falling apart. I doesn't take a blind man to realize that. I just stopped loving you, and I have tried to make those feelings come back. You've just given me a reason not to want them back. So consider us done, have a good life." Evan said as he stormed out of the locker room and then the gym. He walked back to his car and Riley was still there waiting for him. "Dude, what took you so long? I haven't seen Christy and I've tried calling her." Riley said moving over to the passenger side. Evan was quiet as he opened the car and started the engine. "Hey bro what's wrong?" Evan looked up only long enough to mumble the words he never thought he'd say. "I caught her cheating on me. With Darren. It's over between us." He said, they began the short drive to a local caf for a quick bite to eat. "Dude. I'm sorry. I didn't think it'd be true." Riley said putting his hand on Evan shoulder as he continued to drive. "This isn't something I need to think about right now, we need our A-Game tonight." Evan said quickly changing the subject. They drove in silence and talked during their meal, and it was obvious to Riley, Evan was thinking about it still. The finished eating and headed back to the school. They arrived just before the coach began to give them a pep talk. Evan tried his hardest to focus his anger away from Darren and focus it into energy he could actually use of the field. During the school bands performance they sat in the locker room and started their pep talk. The coach started with the usual, 'first game of the season' stuff and how whether they win or lose they both with pride and honor. The heard the final song begin to play and made their way out to the field. They rushed out to the field and the cool November breeze washed over their armored bodies like gladiators going into an arena. Evan took his place as quarter back and faced off with the other team. The whistle blew and Riley called the play, the ball began to make its course from person to person and then it hurled through the air Evan, for a split second he turned his head to the stands and saw Christy at that moment he lost all concentration and missed the ball completely. Needless to say his pain was in the way of his game and it didn't get any better. About 30 minutes later the whistle was blown and then "What the fuck? You're gonna cost us the game." Darren said and any sanity Evan had left was discarded as he ripped off his helmet, and savagely pushed him, Darren pushed back and that started a fierce array of fist flying between the teammates. The whistle was blown several times and the two refused to break up their fight. The coach and Riley jumped in and broke the two up. "What the hell Lonzo! What did I tell you? Get the hell off the field you're benched for the rest of the game, the both of you!" Evan walked angrily to the locker room , changed and left. Max had watched from the stands and ran down and made his way down to the locker room when he saw Evan leave the field. He checked the locker room only to discover that he wasn't there. Max took off for the parking lot and saw Evan leaving his parking spot and making his way to the exit. In an act of desperation Max ran out in front of his car, causing Evan to stop suddenly and mumble obscenities. Max got in the car and Evan left the parking lot. "What the hell? I could have hit you! Don't ever do that again!" Evan said in frustration, his burst of anger scared Max, for the couple months they have known each other Max had never seen that side of Evan. "I'm sorry. What happened out there?" Max asked genuinely. "I don't want to talk about it, at least not now." Evan said aggravated. "Okay. We'll I guess since we're heading in the direction of the beach and you have your book," Max said spotting the bulky text book on the backseat. "We could start studying." "Yea I guess." Evan said quietly, they arrived on the beach and found a secluded spot and sat in the grass. They opened the book and Max started point out the constellations and giving little facts about where they come from. "That one there is Gemini, you know the twins and the greatest star sign ever." Max said proudly. "You're a Gemini? When's your birthday?" Evan asked. "May 29th." He responded. "You?" "August 14th." He said he looked into Max's eyes, Max looked away and scanned the skies and pointed to a constellation behind them "That's you. Leo." Max said pointing. "Which is weird because you are none of those things." "What do you mean?" Evan asked looking in the sky, he couldn't help but feel at ease with Max. "Well Leo's are mostly, narcissistic, vain, promiscuous. And I don't see that in you, I see compassionate and easy going, but of course you are wise and strong and protective.." Evan blushed and things got quiet. "Max." He said. Max immediately looked up from the text book to him. "Christy cheated on me. I caught her in the showers in the male locker room with another guy." "I'm so sorry. Is that what the thing with Darren about? Max asked softly. Evan was quiet and just nodded. "I thought she loved me and I knew something was going on and I decided to stay and I get hurt like this. I was so stupid, and it's my fault. If I wasn't so damn conservative, if I would have just done what she wanted..." Evan's voice trailed off and then he broke down. Max's small body immediately enveloped his as an attempt to soothe the crying boy. "No. I don't want to ever hear you say that. You are not stupid and it isn't your fault. She missed out on something good and it's her fault for getting her rocks off with someone else instead of waiting for you. So hush. Look Evan," Evan looked up to his eyes and they locked instantly. "Evan you are charming, handsome, compassionate, loving, and caring any girl would be lucky to have you. She's not the only one. You'll be okay. I promise." Max said and absent-mindedly began to run his fingers through Evan's hair. "What if, I don't want any other girl." Evan said softly, the tension between them was taking effect stronger than neither of them knew was so strong. "What do you mean?" Max asked, just as oblivious as he could ever be. Evan took a deep breath and decided it was now or never. "I want you. Max. I can't put it into words what's been happening to me and part of me wanted to break up with Christy, just to be with you. I don't want to fight this anymore. I can't do it." Evan said he put his hand gently under Max's chin and brought his face towards his until their lips touched. The kissed passionately but sweetly . Something that the both of them have felt finally taking its course and it couldn't feel more right for Evan. And there you folks have it. The Kiss.
