This is my first attempt at writing this type of story, as the two revisions of part 6 attest to. When you e-mail me please be gentle, but please don't hesitate to let me know when I mess up. If this type of story offends you then how did you even get this far? I have made another boo-boo with the story for the past few parts, which I will fix in this part. See if you can spot the correction. Allen - by tim Part 7 "Hello," said Tom "may I help you?" "Yes." replied Mike. "I came here to talk to you about Calvin. May we come in?" "Okay." said Tom. "Who am I speaking with, and what can I do for you?" Mike and Allen entered coach DeBarry's home, then Mike continued. "My name is Mike Cooper and I'm a caseworker for the DCF. And this is Allen Martin, he is staying with my family temporarily. I'm here to discuss Calvin Wilson's current situation with you." "Are you here to take me away for hitting Allen?" asked a scared Calvin. "No, no son." said Mike in a reassuring tone. "I've talked to Allen and Rusty about you and agree with them that locking you up would be a terrible mistake." "You mean you're not mad at me for beating you up Allen?" asked Calvin, now a little bewildered. "Let's not get carried away." said Allen. "Let's just say I understand what you are going through, and I really don't want to hurt you." Then Mike said, "Okay, let's get down to business here. I called Calvin's father last night to talk to him about Calvin. He was very abusive over the phone and even made threats against Calvin." "That's dear old daddy alright!" scowled Calvin. "Anyways," said Mike, "I came to the conclusion that Calvin needs to be removed from his father's home for his own safety. My office is getting an order from the court to do that, and to keep his father at least one mile away from Calvin at least until this matter is resolved." "I agree with that much." remarked Tom. "I would like to know if there's any way I could be granted temporary custody of Calvin. I've made him some promises which I would like to have a chance to keep." Mike replied "The only problem I would have with that would be security. Do you feel you could provide proper security for Calvin? I'm sure when I serve the court orders to Mr. Wilson this evening, he's not exactly going to be thrilled." "I don't see security as a problem." stated Tom. "You have to remember, I taught Robert everything he knows but I didn't teach him everything I know. The reason I asked was, I am gay. I'm sure that will come out sooner or later so I thought you should know now." "I appreciate your honesty." said Mike. "Although some of the people in my department would have a serious problem with that issue, I personally don't see it as a problem unless you wanted custody of Calvin for sexual reasons. Seeing as how you've been so honest about this issue, I don't think that's the case here, is it?" "Oh, no sir. Not at all." replied Tom. "When it comes to sexual issues I'm a bit old fashioned. I tend to look for lovers close to my own age, and I would hope Calvin does the same. I would also never think of making love to someone in front of Calvin, that's something that should be private." The frank discussion of Tom's sexual orientation was starting to have an effect on the two boys, who were now slightly flushed. They were both starting to form a slight tent in their pants also. Mike, noticing the boys discomfort, said, "I'm satisfied then, we don't have to discuss this any further for now. I will however try to make sure this topic doesn't come up between anyone but us, and you should probably do the same when it comes to dealing with anyone from my office." "Okay," said Tom "I'll trust your advice on this matter." "Good!" replied Mike. "Now that that's settled, if you and Calvin aren't doing anything this evening why don't you join my family for dinner this evening? I think my son Rusty would like to have a chance to talk to Calvin. Also, if I'm satisfied with the security issue I would be more than happy to sign off on the temporary custody for you." "That would be wonderful." Tom responded. "We'll be happy to join you this evening. Thank you so much for everything Mr. Cooper." "You're welcome." said Mike. "And please, call me Mike instead of Mr. Cooper." As the two men shook hands and were saying their good-byes, Calvin and Allen slipped outside to talk. Calvin was about to embrace Allen. "Hey!" exclaimed Allen. "Remeber the broken ribs. Don't hug me too hard." Calvin gently embraced Allen and sobbed, "I'm so sorry for what I did to you. I know that don't help with the pain I caused you, but I want you to know I would rather hurt myself than to ever hurt you again. I don't expect you to forgive me but I have to ask anyways. Please Allen, forgive me for what I did. I was lucky enough to call you my friend and then I did something no friend should ever do. I feel so ashamed of myself right now." Allen gently patted Calvin on the back to soothe him and replied, "Calvin, if I had known what you were going through I would have done things so differently. I shouldn't have put you on the spot like that and I'm sorry myself. Please still consider yourself my friend and of course I forgive you. I can't help but not to." Both boys cried softly to each other for a minute, then straightened themselves up just before Mike came out the door. "Bye Calvin," called out Allen " I'll see you this evening." "Alrighty" said Calvin, "I wouldn't miss it for anything." As Mike pulled out of the driveway to take Allen home he asked, "Did you and Calvin get anything straightened out?" "I hope so." replied Allen, and then he smiled the rest of the way home. _______________________________________________________________________ Rusty ran through the door when he got home from school and yelled out "Hi mom! Hi Beth!", and then went to find Allen. "Dude!" said Rusty, "Did you hear if dad found Calvin?" "He sure did," replied Allen "and I was there with him. And guess what? Calvin and his foster dad are coming over for supper!" "Really!" exclaimed Rusty. "That's cool, I have to talk to Calvin again. I owe him an apology." "So," said Allen "not to change the subject, but what are we going to do this weekend while we have some time together?" This made Rusty grin a big goofy grin because even with everything that was happening, his buddy hadn't forgotten that they wanted to spend some time together. Then Rusty replied, "We can go to the mall on Sunday and hang out I guess, but we have to be here on Saturday for Beth's big birthday bash." "Oh my god!" exclaimed Allen. "I forgot all about Beth's birthday! She's going to be ten on Saturday, isn't she?" "Yep." said Rusty. "The big one zero." "I haven't gotten her anything yet though." said Allen. "I forgot all about it, and ten is a really important birthday." "Don't worry about it buddy." said Rusty. "We can go to the mall tommorrow after school and you can find her something. Don't beat yourself up about forgetting, sometimes I even forget Beth exsists, as terrible as that sounds. She's so quiet though that I sometimes forget that she's around for weeks at a time. It'll be a great party though, mom and dad are going all out. They're inviting all of Beth's friends and getting a clown and balloons and everything." "That sounds like fun." replied Allen mischeviously. "A bunch of nine, ten, and eleven year olds hyped up on cake and ice cream with a clown thrown in for good measure!" With that remark both boys started laughing hysterically, even though it hurt Allen like crazy. He just couldn't help himself. Meanwhile Mike was pulling into Robert Wilson's driveway with a police officer as an escort, just in case. Mike and the officer went up to the door and Mike knocked. Robert answered the door, eyed Mike and the officer with contempt, and spat out "What the hell do you two want?" "Hello Mr. Wilson," said Mike "I'm Mike Cooper from the DCF. We talked last night about your son, Calvin." "I kinda figured that out, dipshit!" said Robert sarcastically. "Now what the fuck do you and Barney Fife want, before I throw you off my property!" The police officer was starting to appear angry at the loudmouthed Robert. Mike handed the papers he was serving to Robert and said, "The first paper is a temporary order making your son Calvin, a ward of the state of Florida. The second paper is a temporary restraining order, ordering you to stay at least one mile away from any location that Calvin may be at." At this point Mike was really beginning to enjoying his job. Also at this time, Robert was seething with anger as he yelled "Fine! Now you get your cock-sucking ass and your little faggot boyfriend off my property before you regret the day you ever met me!" "Before I leave you need to gather Calvin's belongings and bring them to me now!" said Mike as forcefully, but restrained, as possible. Before Robert could lunge at Mike, which he was preparing to do, the officer yelled out while unholstering his tazer "You better think before you do something stupid mister! I won't hesitate for one second to zap your ass right to the ground, right now!" Robert then turned his attention to the officer and yelled "Do you want a piece of me now, you little fairy asshole?" With that the officer pulled the trigger, sending 50,000 volts through Robert's body and immediately knocking him to the ground. Then the officer commanded in a fully official tone, "Sir you have the right to remain silent, and I suggest you begin doing just that!" Before Robert could fully come around the officer had him cuffed, then when Robert was lucient enough the officer finished reading him his rights while Mike went to gather as many of Calvin's belongings as he could find. When Mike came back out he turned to Robert before leaving and said, "Sir, if you ever wish to have a chance to get your son back, I suggest you get some professional help, and the sooner the better!" With that Robert spat in Mike face and asked "How do you like that you bastard?" Mike wiped his face with a handkerchief, then threw it on the ground and replied "Somehow I really didn't expect much better from trash like you! Mr. Wilson, as far as I'm concerned you can forget about seeing Calvin again for a good long time. My office will contact you about the hearing to permanently revoke your parental rights to Calvin." As the officer was dragging Robert to the squad car he yelled out "Don't be so sure of yourself you piece of shit!" Mike was never more relieved that a business call was over than he was at this moment. He got in his car to go home to what a real, loving family life was like. The last threat that Robert Wilson made haunted the back of his mind. _______________________________________________________________________ Later that evening Mike enjoyed a wonderful meal with his family, Allen, Calvin, and Tom DeBarry. After the meal Mike said "Why don't you boys go upstairs and find something to keep yourselves occupied for a while, so us adults can have a little chat." "What about me daddy?" asked Beth. "I didn't forget about you this time sweetie." replied Mike. "Why don't you go call as many of your friends as you can, to make sure they're going to make it for your birthday on Saturday?" Mike smiled as his precious little girl scampered from the room to go call all of her friends. As soon as all the kids were out of the room Mike began informing Tom of his visit with Robert Wilson earlier. When Mike got to the part where Robert got tazed Tom began applauding and cheering enthusiastically. Then Mike finished his story with Tom listening intently. When Mike was finished Tom remarked "You sure had one hell of an afternoon, didn't you my friend?" "Yeah, I guess I did!" replied Mike. "I knew Wilson was a bad character but I didn't realize exactly how bad until today." "You don't even know the half of it, my friend." said Tom. "I used to coach him when he was becoming a young man. He had a lot of talent, but seemed intent on wasting it with his temper. You remember I told you I taught him everything he knows, but not everything I know?" "Yeah." said Mike. "I take it there's a story about that." "Yes, there is." responded Tom. "Robert always had a bad temper from the first day I started coaching him, and it never got any better. After he just missed boxing in the '84 Olympics in L.A. he became completely uncontrollable. At that point I decided to start holding back on what I was teaching him in an effort to submarine his career. I knew if he ever started making his way up the ranks in boxing he would end up killing someone, and I just couldn't live with that thought. Well, my efforts paid off and soon no one would fight him, not even as a sparring partner. So Robert Wilson became a washed up has been before he became an ever was." "Oh my god!" gasped Mike. "And he never found out about any of this?" "No" said Tom, "and he never will if I have anything to do with it!" "With all of this, do you think you can provide enough security to keep Calvin safe?" asked Mike. "I've got more experience dealing with Robert Wilson than anyone in their right mind would like to have." said Tom. "Besides, Robert knows that in a fair fight I could take him out easily." Mike looked at Tom skeptically and asked "If you're that good, how come you never turned pro?" "That's a story I'm not very proud of." said Tom. "When I was a young man I had a chance to become the youngest member of the '76 team in Montreal. I actually did make the team, but in preparing for the trials I did something extremely stupid. I had been convinced by my so called friends at the gym that I boxed out of that I would need a little something extra to compete with the older, more experienced fighters I would be facing. Shortly after winning my spot on the team I was tested and caught with steroids in my system. At that point my active boxing career was over, so I began to learn coaching and the rest is history. I can't complain though, because I have no one to blame but myself." "Wow!" exclaimed Mike. "That's a tough story. So, do you believe you can provide Calvin with proper security?" "If I can't protect him from his old man, then no one can." replied Tom. "Besides, I believe Calvin is a very decent person when you get past what he's been through in his life. I also want to be there for him so he don't make the same mistakes me and his old man made." "Okay." said Mike. "I'm convinced. I'll be happy to sign off on the temporary custody papers, so you can be Calvin's foster father." "Thanks Mike." said Tom. "You've made me the happiest man in the world. I promise I won't let Calvin, or your faith in me down." With that the two men shook hands. Meanwhile Allen, Rusty, and Calvin were talking upstairs. Rusty said to Calvin, "I'm so glad things are okay between you and Allen again. I also want to say how sorry I am about the things I did and said at school yesterday. I had no idea what you were going through and I'm so ashamed of my behavior. Can you please accept my apology Calvin?" "No problemo, amigo." said Calvin. "Consider it done, but what I said yesterday about that being your one free shot at me still stands." Calvin was smiling a lopsided grin as he made that last remark, so Rusty naturally took that as a challenge and said, "So I can't get away with something like this." Then Rusty playfully punched Calvin on the shoulder. Calvin chuckled and said "Okay, that's it!" Then both boys began rolling around on the floor, wrestling and laughing, while Allen laid on the bed directly over them and reached in for a grab or a tickle whenever he could. All three boys had the time of their lives for the first time in what seemed like forever. _______________________________________________________________________ Well folks, that's part 7. I thought I would end this part on an up note for a change. Wait, you're all still cheering about Calvin's dad getting tazed, aren't you? Well, go ahead he deserved it. But an ominous word of warning: we haven't heard the last of Robert Wilson! By the way, did anyone pick up on the mistake I corrected? I hope I wasn't too subtle. Heh-heh. I'll see you all again in part 8. -tim-
