My breathing is beginning to become raspy and my heart is racing to the brim of my throat. SLAM! Another door is being slammed shut just as the girl is running away, crossing the threshold into another room. After my attention is drawn to the abrupt noise doors begin slamming shut all over the increasingly darkened room. Standing in the middle of an unknown room I think to my self. "This is just a dream and I will wake up any time." I'm standing there for a few minuets when up in the ceiling a golden chandelier spontaneously illuminates itself into a blinding light. This isn't one of those blinding moments like when you come from outside to a dimly lighted room. This light starts out slow and in seconds becomes brighter to the point where I have to shield my eyes by closing them. When the light recedes and I am left standing in a padded white room. Adjusting to the new lighting I am able to pick up the differences in this room. "How did I get here, I say to myself?" . Once my eyes have fully adjusted I notice a door like the ones you see in movies with the glass opening to see into the room. I have to admit, up until now I have been calm and going with the flow. What my instincts tell me do now is completely opposite. I scream but nothing comes out; I try screaming again, this time with more effort. Minuets pass by before I really start panicking, throwing my arms in front of my face like a five year old. Time goes by, how much I've no idea. I just know with instinct as I'm laying there on the cold floor. My lower body was becoming worn past the emptying of my tears. I hear a slight almost silent tapping on the glass that at first I wasn't for sure if it was real. Finally the persistent tapping gets my attention. I lift my head up and look up toward the glass panel. I see a pair of undeniable beautiful green eyes staring at me through the glass. "KENZIE! KENZIE?KENZIE!" A sudden burst of adrenaline takes over my body as I'm saying this name and running to greet the owner. I scream out of frustration that same name. It might not be who I think it is but those eyes are enough to convince me despite the possibility. When I reach my destination the eyes disappear. Stunned, it takes a little bit to process the sudden change. Once I do I find my fear swelling up inside like a death grip. I start banging on the door as I push against the cold steel escape route and then I begin to slide to the floor. Realizing no one is coming to rescue me I let loose, spilling fresh tears onto the floor. I sit and wait there for minuets and then hours. When my eyes begin to drop I hear a sweet voice smooth as silk rising past the barrier between me and it. "Listen dear boy listen to me." Whispers the stranger. Uh? What?" I ask now alert. "Listen dear boy listen to me." it whispers to me as I'm getting up on my feet and as start looking for the glass window in the door It takes me a few seconds but when I do find the window I find my self staring into those beautiful green eyes. "I know Zane." "Ummm? okay what exactly is it that you know?" "I know Zane; I know all of your secrets and desires." "I'm not following." I ask, trying to reassure myself that the thing I'm conversing with is in fact the one who I think it is. "Kinzie?" "I know Zane; listen to me. I know exactly what you are ZANEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" My name is being echoed through out the padded room. The noise level in room is increasing with each second. I'm grasping my ears in pain and my desire to leave the padded room becomes my top priority. On problem, Kenzie's beautiful green eyes won't let me break gaze. Next thing I know everything begins to shimmer in a dark green light. The same effect with the chandelier earlier takes hold but this time the light seems to be emitting from those beautiful eyes.. "ZANEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! ZANE! ZANE! ZANE!" "Urghhh! NO! Stop!" I said half a sleep. "ZANE! WAKE UP!" "Urgh mmmmmmmmmmmmm!" "WAKE UP!" I feel someone shaking me as I slowly open my eyes. At first all I see is green but as the green effect wares off my natural blindness takes effect. Squinting I see a shadowy figure standing above me telling me to get up. I reach over to my wooden nightstand and slip on my glasses. "Hey mom?morning. What time is it?" I asked not quite sure where I was. "Almost 7:30 in the morning. You're going to be late for school. Your sister has already left. Now if you hurry you'll be able to catch the bus." She said as she started out the bedroom door. "7:00 you're kidding right?" "No Zane I'm not kidding, get your butt out of the bed and get ready!" Her Kentucky accent was really coming through as it normally does when she gets annoyed. "Ok fine I'm up honestly I'm up!" "Hey no need to get cranky with me, your lunch is ready on the kitchen table. I have to leave for work so I'll see you after school when I pick you up from practice. Don't forget your books and your script." "Okay, I mutter getting out of my bed, crossing the room, and picking up yesterdays pants to smell them. Deciding that they were ok to wear for the day I pull them on. ." "Bye honey I love you." "Love you too mom." I answer back as she heads out the door. " See you after school." She hears the last part as she's shutting the door. Hearing that noise of the door closing sends chills through me. "Ugh hope I never have that dream again", I say to myself. I get into the closet and pick out a blue polo shirt to match the washed out jeans I just put on. I gaze out my bedroom window to see what it was like outside. Beautiful and sunny with the famous fall blue sky. I open the drawer to my chest that's next to my closet. Still half asleep I fish around for a pair of socks. Finding a reasonable pair I slip them on and soon after I pull on a pair of shoes. I go for my school bag sitting in the leather computer chair. Bag in one hand I head toward the bathroom. Standing in front of the mirror gazing back at my reflection, I sigh. . "Today isn't just my day", I'm saying to my self while standing in front of the mirror looking back into my Blue eyes. Stands of my strawberry blond hair are sticking out in odd dimensions and the few pimples from last week are finally disappearing. The red spots really do pop out against my fair freckled face. The tinge of last summer's sunburn is still slightly noticeable. I open up the cabinet behind the mirror grabbing the body spray and closing the door. Turning on the water faucet and spraying the deodorant all over me my brain begins to rewind the events of my dream. A few minuets have passed by and I found myself staring me down in the mirror. "Come on Zane get with it", I say to myself dunking my head under the running cold water. I grab a towel next to the sink and dry off my hair. Realizing how late it is I turn off the light and head downstairs to the kitchen grabbing my books off the counter on my way out. The gray bus had just pulled into the driveway. "Maybe this isn't such a bad day," I say to myself as the bus honks for me. As I reach the inside of the bus I hear a familiar voice calling me. "Zane! Hey Zane over here!" "Oh! Hey Seth how's it going?" "Going good-." "Hey kid! Would you please sit down so we can get a move on?" "Oh? yeah sorry Brenda." "It's fine Zane just sit down." Brenda said mumbling in a crabby tone. I sit down beside Seth with my bag in my lap. He jumps right in with a million questions as usual. "So how come you're on the bus this morning?" "Woke up late again, and Lauren had already left before I had the chance to get ready. Damn dreams again." I replied. "Same ones?" "Yes Seth the same one just more bizarre." "How so?" "Well this time Kenzie said she knew something about me but wouldn't tell." "Dude that's weird," Seth replies. "Tell me about it man, so how are things between you and Rachel? You guys still fighting?" "No? No!" "Everyone's getting along great. It's all good man; really good. I have this feeling that soon I'll be able to see what's under that layer of clothing. Know what I mean?" He told me as he perked up a little more. "Dude, get that smirk off your face. We both know Rachel isn't going to give it up that easily." "Yeah," He says and takes one look at me with my eyebrow half cocked! "Yeah I know, hey man what about you and Kenzzzie?" I frowned and replied. "You know same old same old, what else do you expect from the president of the celibacy club?" "Yeah I guess that's true, but hey going on two years eh? Got anything special planned?" "I don't know man that's five months away. It's too far into the future to think about stuff like that." "Sure, sure?hey look we're here. Hey I almost forgot how did your fall break go, Seth asks?" "Pretty good stayed home for the most part, you?" I said eager to change the subject. "We went over to Jersey to visit some family, which of course they approved of Rachel." He said as we were getting into the line to exit the bus. "That's great man. We better hurry; don't want to be late to homeroom", I say to Seth as I'm stepping off the bus and onto the main walk way in front of the high school. Seth walks in the opposite direction as we split to go to class. In my own thoughts and not paying attention I pass a group of jocks playing a prank on a nameless student. Seth turns around and yells, "See you later man". "Yeah?later", I shout back and wave. A football player walks behind Seth and that's when I notice how short and fragile Seth actually looks. But, when it comes to being outgoing no one can get any better than Seth. That goes for his loyalty as well. Everyone on campus loves him and it's not for his skill in basketball. He's just a genuinely all around nice guy. Being a jock that appears in the schools spotlight once in a while would cause most to behave like a jerk. That can't be said about Seth. I hurry on into the school, putting my books away and heading toward homeroom. I look around the halls for Kenzie on my usual route to my first class. Disappointed and still a little sleepy I stop out side the class room door. My mind races back to the dream I had this morning or night? when ever it was. What could I possibly mean? I love Kenzie but could she possibly know about me that I haven't told her yet? I mean there is that incident with Kyle months previous but that's to stay in the restricted section. I push that thought out as quickly as it entered my head. Pondering the answer to the big what if question in my brain I completely spaced out and it wasn't until a few minuets later that I realized the bell had ranged.
