Chapter 4

Scott Green.

What can I say about him?

I met Scott at some party last year. It was around the same time that Ashley and Jake had started dating, so I often found myself without my two best friends because they were busy spending some quality together time by themselves. There was nothing I could really do except find someone else to hang out with while Ashley and Jake went on their private dates. That someone else turned out to be Scott. He was cool, funny and liked to play soccer even though he wasn't on the school team. It also didn't hurt that Scott was always eager to hang out with me even if it meant just chilling in my room and doing absolutely nothing.

I thought everything was great but I was quite mistaken. One night Scott was hanging out at my house when he confessed that he was gay and that he had a crush on me. To say I was surprised would have been an understatement. He had never said or done anything before to make me think that he was gay or that he was interested in me. I had never thought of him or any other guy in that way. I didn't know what else to do but tell him that I was straight but that I still wanted to be friends with him. To my surprise, he didn't believe me when I said I was straight. I tried convincing him that I was only interested in girls but he only shook his head and got up to leave. Before he left, he looked me in the eye and said something that haunted me for days after.

"Kyle, if you think you are completely straight then you are only deluding yourself and one day you will realize that. I am willing to wait for you to figure it out but until then I don't think that we can be friends."

I kept trying to talk to him after that so I could ask him what he meant or more importantly, what made him think that I wasn't completely straight. However, Scott ignored me completely and blew off all my attempts to speak to him. Eventually, I got used to Scott treating me as a complete stranger and we became notorious ex-friends in school. However, no one knew the real story except the two of us and my best friends Jake and Ashley who I had confided in. I decided to dismiss what Scott said as just a desperate attempt to try to get me to go out with him. I was pretty convinced that I just wasn't interested in guys. Everything blew over in a couple weeks and everyone forgot about it.

However, now I had realized the truth in Scott's words. Here I was being attracted to a guy. It was obvious now that I wasn't completely straight. Somehow, it didn't really bother me that I might be bisexual. I was more concerned that Scott had been able to see something in me about which I had no idea at that time. Then there was the whole part about him waiting for this day to come.

"Here are your cokes, the pizza will be ready in a few minutes," said the waitress as she placed a glass of coke in front of each of us.

"I like Colin," I said breaking the silence at the table after the waitress left.

Jake and Ashley both looked at me with a confused look on their faces.

"I like Colin for who he is. I don't think the gender really makes a difference to me. There just seems to be something special about him and it has nothing to do with the fact that he is guy. But if liking Colin makes me bi, then so be it but I don't like labels."

"What about Scott?" Ashley repeated.

I paused and thought before replying.

"I don't like Scott. I never liked Scott in that way. Plus, it would just be awkward after all that's happened."

"Okay," Ashley replied slowly. "But wasn't he like waiting for you to discover your true sexuality or something?"

"Yeah, he really had it for you badly, dude," Jake added.

"I guess but I'm not interested in him, just like I'm not really interested in Rachel."

"Well, no wonder you've been single since Ashley," said Jake, laughing slightly and pulling Ashley towards him.

We all laughed a little, relaxing a bit after my confessions.

"But could this cause trouble with Scott? What will he think?" I asked, still a bit unsure of how things were going to be.

There was silence before Jake spoke up.

"Dude, he can't stake his claim on you. You are free to date anyone you choose. Plus, I think he's over you. I mean he does have a boyfriend and all now."

"What?" Ashley and I both exclaimed.

"How did you know that?" I asked.

"I just heard it. I think it's some guy from another school."

I let out a big sigh of relief.

"Well, that solves a lot of problems. You could have just told me that to begin with, you asshole."

"Sorry, dude," Jake said as Ashley laughed.

I shook my head and took a sip of my coke.

"You're hopeless. I guess that eases my dilemma then."

At that moment, the waitress returned holding our pizza.

"Here's one large pepperoni pizza. Enjoy!" said the waitress. We all grabbed a slice and started eating.

"So what's your plan of action then with this Colin guy?" Jake asked as we ate.

"I don't know. I'm kind of new to this whole thing. I think I am just going to try to get to know him better first. Do you guys know anything about him?"

"Never heard of him," Jake said just shaking his head.

I turned to look at Ashley.

"Well, I have seen him at his locker a couple times when I was with Rachel. I think he's friends with this guy Matt who's in one of my classes. I've seen them together a couple of times."

"I think I saw them walking home together today. Does Matt have short light brown hair?" I asked.

"Yeah, he lives really close to school so I think he just walks home," replied Ashley.

"Oh, you don't think that..."

"No," Ashley said cutting me off, laughing, "Matt's dating a girl named Lindsay. They've been together for a couple of months now, I think."

"Well, it's good that you know all the gossip at school," I said laughing. "But you don't know anything about Colin?"

"No, sorry," Ashley replied.

"Well, I think I could try to get some information from my sister. She's good friends with Colin's sister."

"That's probably a good idea," said Ashley. "Little sisters always have good dirt on older siblings."

"So are we done here?" asked Jake after all of the pizza was finished.

"Yeah," I said looking at the empty plates. "Thanks guys."

"Anytime, dude," replied Jake.

I paid for the meal and then we got up and left. I drove back to the aquatic center where Jake's car was still parked. After dropping Jake and Ashley off, I returned home.

"Hi sweetie, how was your day?" my mom greeted me as I walked into the house.

"It was interesting," I said with a smile before heading upstairs to my room.

It had been an interesting day. I didn't think it was possible for so many things to happen in one day. However, the only thing on my mind right now was Colin. My mission now was to get to know the guy who had so suddenly taken control of my thoughts. I walked down to the hall to the door to my sister's room. Now I just had to try to get some information out of my impossible sister if that was possible at all. I took a deep breath and knocked on her door.

To be continued...

What do you think? How do you like it so far? Let me know!
