Justin dropped him off at his house around 10:30 AM, enough time to get dressed to go with them to the 11 o'clock mass at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. His Mom and Dad were feeling a little hurt that Christopher seemed to have abandoned them. His Dad would have insisted that he stop the 'sleepovers' at Justin's house but his Mom talked him out of it. In the little amount of time that he spent with them last week, she recognized the change in Christopher. He was happier and more confident; her little boy was growing up. She often regretted the decision to start him in school so early. Chris was the youngest and smallest boy in his first grade class. At that early age he begged his parents to allow him to be in the same class with Justin, his new kindergarten friend. Little did she know that their special bond would wind up with them becoming lovers. There was no way of turning back the clock now, her little Chris was soon to graduate from High School. His decision on which college to attend was predicated on the choice that Justin would make. Justin had received twelve baseball scholarship offers and narrowed his decision to two Universities, 'coincidentally' because they both had accepted Christopher's application for enrollment. The thought of a four year separation from his little Christopher was unthinkable to him. Justin intended to go straight home but found himself driving past Martha's house at the other end of town. He parked his car down the street hoping to catch a glimpse of his Dad. He was there for about 15 minutes and about ready to leave when he saw a car pull into Martha's driveway. Russell got out, walked around to the passenger side, opened the door and extended his hand to Martha. They stood there talking for a minute or so when he saw the big man give her a peck on the cheek. Even from a distance, he could see the love they shared. It was strange to see this man, *his father*, kissing Gary's mom. His dream from last night had *his mom* and Russell falling in love and getting married. He felt a momentary loss but it was soon replaced by the happiness he felt for Martha. He remembered how sad she was the night he and Christopher visited. It was good to see her smiling. When they went inside her house, Justin started the car and drove home. His mom was sitting in the kitchen drinking coffee and reading the Sunday paper. He put his strong arms around her from the back of her chair and hugged her just a little longer and tighter than he normally did. Then he kissed her cheek and sat down across from her. "What did I do to deserve that, dear," she asked. Justin only smiled as he picked up the sports section that was laying on the table. -------------------------------------------------------------------- After church, Christopher and his parents went to a restaurant for lunch. When they were seated he saw Dave's uncles getting up to leave from their booth at the other end of the room. As they were walking toward the cashier they saw Christopher and stopped to say hello. Chris introduced them to his parents who were slightly shocked to see that Ray was a black man. Christopher had told them about the pair but never mentioned that they were an interracial couple. Pleasantries were exchanged for a few minutes. Christopher beamed with delight at their chance meeting. His thoughts were of the two occasions they were together and the wonderful time he had with them. When they left, Christopher's father asked him why he didn't tell them that Ray was black. Christopher was a little annoyed at his father for asking the question. "Would that have made a difference Dad!!" His father picked up on the irritation in his son's voice. He thought for a few seconds and realized the implication of what he asked and was a little ashamed of himself. "No Chris, it wouldn't have. It was a dumb question to ask." His mother diffused the awkward situation by looking at the menu and commenting on the specials that were listed. Her Christopher had indeed grown up and she was so very proud of him at that moment. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Craig was in his back yard tossing a football with his little brother. Next door he finally saw the couple who moved in a few days ago. A little boy about Michael's age stood watching them from the hedge row that separated their yards. Craig saw that he was a bit shy and asked him if he wanted to join in. Michael just met him yesterday and called to him. "Hey Gary!" "Hey Mike!" Gary came through a hole in the hedge that dated back to when Craig was their age. "This is my big brother Craig", Michael said with obvious pride in his voice. "Glad to meet you Gary", Craig said. Craig tossed the football to Gary who caught it and threw it to Mike. They formed a triangle and passed it between them for some time before Craig told them he needed to take a rest. The three of them sat on the patio, drinking cokes and getting better acquainted. The kid had a shock of uncombed red hair and freckles. He was seven years old, same age as Michael. In a matter of minutes, Craig's wit and charm had the kid smiling. "Wish I had a big brother like you! Alls I have is a dumb old sister who can't even catch." Just then they heard a feminine voice from Gary's yard. "Gary! lunch is ready. Time to come home." Craig looked over and his heart skipped a beat. Standing there in the yard next door was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. She had shoulder length auburn hair that framed the face of an angel. When she saw Craig sitting there with her brother and his friend, she blushed and momentarily looked toward the ground. 'He is sooooo cute', she thought to herself. "Gotta go!" Gary said. "There is my dumb sister now." Craig got up, put his hand on Gary's shoulder and walked with him to the hedge opening. He never took his eyes off the vision in a dress that had suddenly appeared there. They exchanged glances until Craig managed to blurt out: "Hi! My name's Craig, I'm Michael's brother." "Nice to meet you Craig, I'm Kathy, Gary's sister." Craig leaned over and whispered in Gary's ear loud enough for Kathy to hear. "I agree with you kid, your sister is as beautiful as you said she was." Gary looked at Craig with an odd expression, crinkled his freckled nose like he smelled something bad, then walked past his sister toward their back door. Kathy blushed at Craig's remark and demurely looked away. 'I'm in love', Craig thought to himself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Tom and Dave said goodbye to Tom's relatives following the noon Church service. They had time to make the 1:30 PM movie at the mall if they hurried. The house lights dimmed just as they took their seats in the back row. They looked around and saw only one other couple in the same section as them. Tom took Dave's hand in his and briefly brought it to his lips for a tender kiss. The other couple were not as cautious as they were but then, heterosexual couples didn't have anything to fear from openly displaying their love for each other. They seemed like a strange pair, the girl was much taller than the guy and he had his head resting in the crook of her arm. Tom got a little bolder as he moved his hand to rest on Dave's lap. Dave groaned slightly when Tom hooked his fingers underneath to squeeze his denim covered cock. He turned his head toward Tom and they kissed each other on the lips. In the flickering light, Tom got a better view of the other couple. To his surprise, he recognized that it was Taylor and Tim. Taylor's long hair made him appear to be a girl at first glance. Tim held Taylor's hand that dangled from the protective arm draped across his shoulder. They were in love and neither feared the consequences of upsetting some uptight homophobes who may be watching them. They had the audacity of youth on their side. Tom was emboldened by their public display and decided to drape his arm around his lover. Dave responded by leaning into Tom's chest and stayed there for the balance of the movie. When the house lights came back on, the boys met in the aisle on their way out of the theater. Spontaneously, Tim kissed both Tom and Dave on the cheek when they said their 'hellos'. The two younger boys accepted Tom's offer to drive them home rather than calling Tim's parents to pick them up. The two sophomores were still a year away from being old enough to get their driver's licenses. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Elder John sat in his darkened apartment and stared blankly at the small TV screen. It was in these quiet moments that his tormented thoughts turned to his younger brother Michael. Lately another face was starting to appear. The new face was that of his son Gary. The foundation of his belief system had been shaken. He wondered by God allowed this to happen. He felt like 'Job' in the bible. God had stripped Job of all his worldly possessions and destroyed his family to test his faith. He felt that God was testing him in a similar manner. He must continue to be resolute, stay on the path that God had chosen for him, prove his worthiness and all would be restored to him. Ed Jordan was to blame for this. Everything was fine before he took over as Principal of the school. Tomorrow evening at the School Board meeting, things would change, God would surely see to that. God will not continue to permit the virus of homosexuality to infect the children. This abomination would be struck down by a righteous demonstration of God's power. *Praise the Lord*!, he shouted. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Justin and his mom spent the day together. She talked for hours about when she was a little girl, her hopes and dreams. In the course of that she described her crush on Russell Watkins and the night that Justin was conceived. She told him about the day he was born and the happiness she felt when he was first placed in her arms. "Jim Parker was a good man", she told him. "He loved you the best he could. I will never forget the look in his eyes when he found out that I would not be able to have any more children. He still loved us both but I knew that his dreams of having his own children would prevent him from ever being completely happy. He would have never left us but I couldn't do that to him. I asked him for a divorce when he started to drink as a means to escape from his true feelings. I often thought about calling Russell to tell him about you but I didn't want him to marry me out of his sense of guilt and obligation. After he moved away, I heard that he got married and I was happy for him." "When I saw him at Gary's funeral, all the memories came back and I could finally put them to rest. I saw the look of love in his eyes when he was with Martha. The same look was in her eyes. I hope that some day the two of them can make a life together." "You have found something special with Christopher. Don't ever let that go. I look at the two of you and can see the love you have for each other. God has answered my prayers. I wanted you to find someone to love who would love you in return. I worried that you would never be able to give yourself unconditionally to another person. It is a difficult thing to do, to open up yourself completely. I worried about the aggressive nature that you've always had. In this past week, I've seen that change dramatically. Christopher is responsible for that. His kind, gentle nature has enabled you to become more open and loving. I think of him as my second son and I love him dearly." It was a little after 9 PM when Justin heard the car pull up in the driveway. He looked out the window just in time to see Christopher kiss his parents and walk toward the front door. Justin's heart skipped a beat, his little lover was returning to him. He opened the front door and when Chris saw him, his face lit up, and he ran the last few steps into his waiting arms. Justin hugged him tightly to his chest and never wanted to let him go. His mom walked past them and waved good-bye to his parents. Chris' parents felt much better now. Christopher was safe and happy. That was all they ever wanted for him since the day he was born. end chapter 30 Please let me know what your thoughts are? What do you like/dislike about Christopher-answers?
