Chase McPhee % "I'll handle this," Kyle spoke up, directing his voice to the guy at the desk, "I'd like to see the manager." "He's not available." Obviously, this was not the same desk jockey as when they checked in. It was time to start throwing some weight around. Kyle looks to Alex. From a distance, Alex punches one of his hands with his fist, a sign to `go get'em'! "You can make him available for Kyle Dryfiss," Kyle states, with an iron will. It's apparent the deskguy never heard of, nor made the connection between Kyle and his father. Going in the back, sticking his head through the door, he heard, "There's some Dryfizz guy out here, asking..." Out of the back, races a gentleman. "...for you?" "Yes, Mr. Dryfiss. I'm Matthew Roberts. What service can we render you?" Roberts speaks on behalf of the hotel. Catching Alex from the corner of his eye, Kyle sees him giggling. "Well, Mr. Roberts, I just called down, asking for Raj and was told he was terminated. What gives?" "Oh yes. Seems Raj has been neglecting his duties." "Neglecting his duties? You call providing expert help to his clients, neglect?" "John?" the higherup questioned the desk jock. "He couldn't give me valid reason why he..." John tries to make excuse for himself. "Does he have to? Can't he just say he was providing services for his customers?" Kyle asks, butting in. "John, I think I need to see you in my office? Excuse me a moment." In a matter of two minutes, the door pops open. Out exits Mr. Roberts, closing the door behind him. "I think there's been a mistake made here by our assistant manager." "So, you're calling Raj back?" "As soon as I finish talking with you." "Good to hear. By the way, the hotel wouldn't remotely, happen to have a tanning salon, would it?" "The Radisson has everything! Let me get someone to show you the route." After chatting on the phone, Mr. Roberts mentions "Sean, will be here momentarily to assist you." "Thank you, Mr. Roberts and I hope we will be seeing Raj again soon." "Trust me. An injustice has been made and I will take care of amends," Roberts assures him, with a smile attached. Kyle walked over to where Alex was standing, mentioning to him the facts, as he knew it. He looked up, to see a tall, blond man, nicely tanned, walking across the lobby. At the desk, Mr. Roberts focused his attention towards Alex and him. "I think I've died and gone to heaven," Kyle states. "Me too," Alex says. "Hi. I'm Sean Braakman. I understand you two are interested in a tan?" Alex wasn't, but suddenly fell in love with the idea! Following Sean to the tanning salon, Kyle tried to measure Sean up. He stood about Alex's height, 6'1, had a swimmers build, blond hair and the most perfect tan. Upon reaching the salon, Kyle bowed out, saying he would wait for the beach. "I'll be back later to pick you up." "What are you going to do for.... how long does this take, Sean?" Alex inquires. "The tan and massage...." "Massage?" "Yup. Will take about an hour. Tomorrow come back for another," Sean provided the explanation, with a welcoming smile. Alex liked the sound of it. "You don't have to come fetch your friend," whom Sean assumed Alex meant, to Kyle. "I'll escort Alex to the pool." Kyle took off, going back to the room. He switched his shorts for a speedo and headed down to the pool. Right away he spotted Devon and Dominic. "Hey guys." "Kyle, have a seat." Kyle sat on the lounger, next to Devon. "Where's Alex?" He didn't want to spoil the looks on their faces, so left it at, "Getting a massage." "Cool!" "So, you're staying for the swim competition, Dominic?" "I thought I'd take some sick leave. Nothing much is happening at the end of the school year. So, yes." "I'm sorry," Kyle says, "but I don't know how else to put this, but are you two... um..." Devon fills in the blank, "Dating?" "Are we a couple?" Dominic puts it plainly. "Something like that!" He giggles. "Dating or couple," Dominic says, "whichever you want to put it, I guess you can say we're `together'." Devon offers, "I suppose you can guess that your brother and I are through." "I don't even think you two properly got started," Kyle assumes. "Not really and whew! I almost made a mistake." "You mean going all the way?" Kyle asks. "Yeah." Dominic says, "Well, with me there's no pressure. We take our time and let things evolve." "Right," Devon replies, "take our time and do it right." "Sounds good to me, but did you actually tell Knapp you were through. I'm not sure of the circumstances." "No," came Devon's answer, "I never said it, but the way I left, I think he'll get the message." "I'll have a talk with him when I go back, if I do. I'm kind of pissed at him, too." "The important thing is I have a man that cares about me," Devon says, taking Dominic's hand in his. Dominic leaned over, as did Devon and they kissed. "How's the water?" Kyle asked. "Nice," the two agreed. As Kyle got up to dive in, so did Devon and Dominic. They played around in the pool for what seemed like hours, but resulted in only forty-five minutes. Finally, Alex showed up, escorted by Sean. He wasn't going to say anything, being he could still spot the embedded `S' on his chest. "How was the treatment?" "Nice," Alex replied. "I have to go back tomorrow. You should go for a massage. Sean is good with his hands!" Alex didn't mean to do it, but his comment made Sean blush darker than his tan. "I just want to make a person feel comfortable," Sean said. "I hope you don't mind," Alex says, "but I invited Sean to dinner with us and guess what else?" "What?" Kyle asks. "Sean knows Raj, called him and invited him to come to dinner with us." "Cool!" Kyle perked up. "Are we invited?" Devon asks. "Of course you are." So, heading away from the pool, Kyle and Alex headed back to their room. "For a minute there I sensed something." "Oh? How does that go, Alex?" "A bit of jealousy?" "What? Over a six foot hunk with a swimmer's build, tanned nicely all over, not to mention the six pack abs?" Alex laughed his ass off. "I guess I shouldn't be so sensitive." "You shouldn't," Kyle shot back at Alex. "So, when did you stop being jealous?" "Right after the part where you mentioned Raj." "I thought so!" Alex quipped. "Why don't you show me some of your moves?" Kyle asked. "In the pool?" "Nah, let's take it back to the room?" "Unless it's a water bed, I doubt it, but seriously, don't you think this is a good time to visit mom?" "And the kiddies?" "They're all at school. Mom is home on Monday's." "Cool with me." Going back to their room they dressed and met Rick out front. "I'll have your jeep back in a sec," Rick says. After hearing tires squeal, Rick pulls up, jumping out, commenting, "Handles nice." "Hmm... I dunno. I suspect I might be do for another set of tires?" Kyle responds. Rick got the message, saying, "I'll handle it better next time." "Thanks," Kyle said, handing Rick some folded cash. "How much?" Alex quizzes Kyle, hopping in. "Not much. Only a ten." "Ten? Wow! Think of how many burgers I could buy with ten bucks!" "Why don't you drive, Alex?" "Sure, if you want me to." Alex climbed aboard and peeled out of the hotel parking lot. "Are you sure you know where you're going?" Kyle laughed. "I know these roads blindfolded." "Okay, but we're not trying out that theory in this jeep!" Soon they had doubled back from where they came and headed up Orchard Terrace. The houses stood on the block, one square to the next, until they came to an oblong-shaped home, a tarnished brass plate hammered into the fat oak tree, numbered 24. "Here we are." Kyle offered to handle the six boxes for the kids, plus the flat box for Joey. That left the box in the glove compartment for Alex to bring. Of course, it being a school day, none of the siblings were at home, but Mrs. Nouguet came to the door when she heard it open. "Alex!" yelled his mother, throwing her arms around him. After a few seconds, Alex shared, "This is my friend, Kyle Dryfiss." "Nice to meet you, Kyle. Call me Agnes" followed by her favorite line, "care for some of my blueberry pie?" "I'd love some," Kyle says." "What's all this, Alex?" "Some things I picked up, down the shore, for the others, plus `this', for you." "Something for me? Oh, now Alex you should be saving your money for college." "Half of it is from Kyle." "You shouldn't have." "Open it." Agnes almost fell over when she opened the long, streamlined box first. "Is this a real diamond?" "Yup," Alex said smiling, all tingly over his mom's excitement. "Thank you so, so much." Next came the earrings, which received the same favorable reaction. "Why don't you go try them on?" His mother leaves the room. "What do you think? She likes them?" Kyle asks. "'Like' is putting it mildy!" Alex replies. "Here we go!" Comes the voice from the other room. Alex always wondered how people with piercings can change so quickly. "How do I look?" "Like a million dollars," Kyle says. "Thank you so, so much!" >From Agnes came the biggest hug, almost smothering Kyle with her thankful affection. From there, Mrs. Nouguet served up the blueberry pie, admiring her new jewelry not less than eight or ten times, thanking the two over and over. To break the monotony of constant thankfulness, Alex told his mom what he got the others. She especially was interested in Joey's present. "And you can fill it with pictures?" "Yes. All we have to do is find somebody with a digital camera and we can take pics of all of us, install them, then send the frame to Joey," Alex filled her in. "Plus," Kyle filled her in, "the pictures can be changed, added and deleted at will." "The wonders of technology!" She exclaims. "If I thought, I could've brought my digital cam," Kyle tells them. However, even though he mentioned it, he had in mind already the digital camera, sitting on the glass shelf, in the gift shop at the Radisson. From now on, Kyle had a mind to chronicle every moment of his and Alex's life! Time passed quickly, the kids came home from school, opened their presents, said their thank you's to both Alex and Kyle and ran off to play with their gifts, a place to end their visit. Alex's mom asked when he would be coming home to stay. Alex answered `soon', not wanting to put a downer on her jubilant attitude, informing her of his and Kyle's plans. . "Nice family," Kyle tells Alex, as he commands the jeep up Orchard Terrace. "Yeah. I did feel awkward about the digital picture frame, not having any pics to upload." "I wouldn't worry about that. You can always send them on later." % Copyright 2007 T. Chase McPhee This story may not be sold, nor made part of any collection, without prior consent from the author. % other stories by T.
