I turn around to see my friend charging at me with arms wide open. "Hey buddy! What's up? Can't you see that I'm trying to ditch this place as soon as I can? Ha ha." "Well I didn't think you would skip out of here without saying bye to your best friend ever." "I was actually going to call you later to see if you'd like to come over for dinner. Mom is cooking her `world class' spaghetti and I didn't want to sit at the table listening to her gloat alone." "Well seeing that you did ask nicely...what time should I be over?" "Be there around five in case she starts early." We laugh and I walk past the school parking lot. It is a beautiful day outside. Maybe I should go to the park later or something. I walk around the corner and like always; see the guy who lives at this house staring at me out of his bedroom window. I should really report him for being a creep but instead I enjoy flipping him off everyday. I am such a bad ass sometimes. Five houses from the corner I see the only tree in the neighborhood big enough to stand over a house in the middle of my yard. Something I don't see everyday is also in my front yard. My parents are outside talking to this guy. He looks to be around my age, built but not to big, slim actually. I am by no means gay, but he looks like the type of guy ladies wouldn't mind taking home to daddy. My trance is interrupted by my dad calling me over. (Jake's view) Going back to my hometown didn't exactly appeal to me after 13 years of living in New York City. Sure St. Peters wasn't the worst city in the world but it certainly wasn't New York. St. Peters, Missouri. Ugh still can't believe I'm here again. I pull into my old driveway. I haven't been here since I was four! Daddy couldn't handle the pressure of having a son so he sends me here to live with my aunt. Jeeze! Mom wouldn't have done this. Hell who am I kidding? She wouldn't even take me. Oh well. Who needs parents when you have a great aunt like mine? "Aunt Jackie!" I scream as my aunt steps out of the front doorway. She really has shaped up since our last family reunion three years ago. "Well are you going to sit there all day Jacob Harris?" Ugh. I hated it when people used my full name. Made me feel like I was in trouble, and I guess I will be if I don't get out of this car. "No ma'am. I was just getting out." "Well good. Look at my nephew, all grown and shit!" "Aunt Jackie! Ha ha." "Oh right sorry. Forgot you were a good Christian..." "Pshh the hell I am!" Everyone knows I have to be the farthest thing from a goodie-two-shoes." We both are surprised from behind when a middle-aged couple comes out of their house next door. "Hey Jackie," the lady says brimming with glee. "Hey Deborah," my aunt replies. The couple seem vaguely familiar, like I've seen them once or twice in the past. Maybe it's just in my head. "Jacob? Is that you?" the man asks with a weird look on his face. "I'm sorry. Do I know you?" "Jacob! It is you!" he says as he brings me in to a big bear hug. "Who are you?" I say in a calm tone, not wanting to hurt this man's feelings. "Oh of course. I'm Charles; you probably don't remember me seeing that we haven't seen you since you were four, playing in our back yard." Memories of my childhood slowly come back to me. I recall playing in a backyard with a boy, having a good time before all this shit with my parents happened. As I'm trying to remember more, Charles calls over to someone walking down the street.
