One of the rest rules is if you can move, do so. To show you can. And Logan wasn't. "Logan!" I jumped up from my seat but I felt my wrist being grabbed. I looked down and saw it was Cody holding my wrist. "Dylan, think of what it will look like. Calm down." "I don't give a shit what it will look like," I said as I ripped my hand away from him and ran to the rink entrance. I stood at the glass trying to not let the tears come. I watched as the coach motioned, calling with the paramedics. God, he couldn't get off on his own two feet! He still wasn't moving. So I stood there trying to not let the tears fall. Not in public, I can't cry in public. Logan taught me to be stronger than that. I felt a hand on my shoulder and there stood Cody. He was moving me aside so the medics could get by with a stretcher. "He'll be fine Dylan. Logan is strong. You know that." "He's still not moving!" I said. The paramedics got him on the stretcher and started moving back towards us, and Jjay was skating with them. The paramedics moved past us and Jjay stepped off the ice. "Don't you have a game to finish?" Cody said. "What, you didn't notice me beating the asshole's face in? I got thrown out for fighting," he said. "Both of you wait for me to change and I'll drive us down to the hospital." I didn't even think how we were going to follow him. Neither me nor Cody could drive and the hospital isn't exactly walking distance. So we wait. Waiting those agonizing minutes for Jjay to be ready had to be one of the toughest things I have ever done. God damn it, Jjay, hurry up. Jjay came out of the locker room with his and Logan's bag. "˜That's why he took forever; he was grabbing Logan's stuff!' We got into Jjay's car and he sped off towards the hospital. I caught Jjay looking at me in the rearview mirror, and Cody kept glancing at me from the front seat. I understood Cody looking at me, but Jjay? Did he know? Did Cody tell him? "It's okay to cry Dylan, you don't have to be strong right now," Jjay said, "and no, Dylan, Cody didn't tell me, Logan did." I caught his eyes in the mirror, "What?" I asked. I felt the tears forcing their way to the surface again. It felt almost impossible to hold them back. "Logan told me everything, his exact words were, `Since both Cody and Sean know, I might as well tell you, I'm gay,'" he said. "I kind of put two and two together and realized you were dating." I hung my head down with my eyes closed and after a few seconds I felt something wet on my hand. When I opened my eyes I realized the tears started to fall. I tried to will them back, but it was no use. So I just let them fall. I felt a hand on my knee, so I looked up and Cody was looking at me smiling. "He'll be okay Dylan, if Logan can take a punch from Jake, he can take on this." It made me smile a little, but still, Logan was able to move at that punch. We finally arrived at the hospital and Cody and I ran inside as Jjay parked the car. We were led to Logan's room by one of the nurses, but they wouldn't let me inside the room. So I was forced to wait and wait. And wait! "I'm going to call Amanda and drive her to the arena so she can drive Logan's car back to his house. You guys going to be okay while I'm gone?" he said, looking at me specifically. Great, I'm going to be getting that look from Amanda when she gets here. Unless Logan hasn't told her yet, which is probably a lie. "Yea, go ahead. We'll text you if something comes up," I said. I looked up at him and met his eyes. I forced a smile to my face. It was difficult to do so, but I did. "Okay, but don't do anything stupid while I'm gone," he said. Now it was just Cody and I sitting on seats in the hallway, he had his hand on my back as I placed my face in my hands. I wasn't crying anymore, now I was just trying to control my emotions. We are in public again, so I need to. Crying in front of Jjay and Cody was one thing, but now there are plenty of people watching. This was going to be a long day! I don't know how much time had passed, but Jjay and Amanda had shown up and Amanda instantly walked over and pulled me into a hug, which meant she knew! great another person to give me that "˜I'm sorry' look. It's not like he's dead. Oh my god, what if the reason they aren't letting us in is because he's dead? And they are just waiting for his parents to show up to tell us! No, that's not it. If he was dead the doctors would be rushing all over the place to get him into surgery or something to save him. Yea he's not dead at all. God please don't let him be dead. I don't think I could survive that! The doctor walked out of the room. He looked at us, then looked up and down the hallway. "Has his parents arrived yet?" was the first thing the doctor said to us. Well there's a fat chance of his parents coming from what I understand. This happened to Logan before and his parents only showed up to sign him out and take care of payment. "They probably won't, too busy with work most likely," Amanda said. The doctor raised his eyebrow at her. Did Amanda really just say that? Yea didn't see that coming did you doc? "They are up in New York for a conference or something" She said, "How is he?" "Mr. Kessler is awake and he doesn't seem to have any lingering trauma. We are going to keep him here for a few days to make sure nothing comes to light." He said, "He's been asking for someone named Dylan?" I was immediately out of my chair and into the room before the doc could stop me. When I saw him I stopped dead in my tracks. There he was in his hospital bed, head cocked to the side; the Logan smirk on his face. Like he was saying, "˜why are you worrying about me? I'm invincible' The fucking bastard was trying to play it off like he didn't almost become a cripple. "Dylan, have you been crying?" he said. "No, I haven't. You weren't knocked unconscious or anything," I snapped at him. "Geez Dylan calm!" "DO NOT TELL ME TO CALM DOWN!" I yelled. Logan actually jumped a little when I did that. I mean I didn't mean to yell or anything. He was trying to freakin act like nothing was wrong! "You were lying motionless on the ice. Do not expect me to be calm about this Logan," I said, "Do you know how worried I was?! I have been sitting out there in that hallway for two hours waiting for you to wake up and now I come in here and you try to play it off! "Do not try to fuck with me like that Logan. You could have gotten a concussion. You could have a concussion, or worse! you could have been..." "I could have been a lot of things Dylan. But I'm not any of those things," he said, "I know you were worried about me. I was trying to cheer you up. I guess it didn't work. I'm sorry, but that's what I do. I try to cheer up and protect people I care about." "I was just so!" I could finish the sentence. I started to feel the tears. "Hey, come here," he said. He moved the bar on the side of the bed down and I walked over. He pulled me into a hug and I just let the tears fall. Logan just held me; letting me cry while rubbing my back. "Hey it's okay. I'm alright," He said. I felt his lips on my forehead. It took a little bit but the tears finally stopped, but Logan continued to hold me. "You okay now?" "Yea, I! I think so." I said. We separated. When I looked at Logan he again had the smirk on his face. Then I thought about it. The reason he was smirking and it caused me to laugh. I can't imagine what I look like now. God I must look hilarious. "I should probably go get everyone and tell them to come in." I said after I was done laughing. "Who's all our there?" "Cody, Jjay, and Amanda." "What's Amanda doing here?" "Jjay went and got her so she could drive your car back to your house." "!Amanda drove my car?" "Yea? Is that a problem?" "She is quite possibly the worst driver ever," He said, "God I hope I still have a car." That made me smile more. "Might as well go let them in," He said. I walked into the hallway, and saw them all still sitting there. "Everything all good now?" Cody said. "Yea, come on in." The three of them walked past me and into the room, but I stayed outside of it. "Hey you coming in?" Cody said. I looked over my shoulder and our eyes connected. "I'll be in a little bit. I just want to be a lone for a little bit," I said. "Ok," Cody said and he walked into the room. I walked over and sat down on the bench and leaned my head back against the wall; closing my eyes. He's okay. He's really okay. I honestly felt a huge weight come off my shoulders. I don't know what I would do without Logan. He is everything to me. Without him I would be nobody. I probably wouldn't have accepted myself being gay and just ignored it. Got married to a girl and would have been miserable for the rest of my life. I really do owe Logan everything. I've only know him for a few months now and he has changed me so much. I was a quiet individual with no goals in life, just kind of skating though life in a daze, not making an impact anywhere or with anyone. I can guarantee 99% of my classmates didn't even know I existed before Logan chose me and a majority of them I've known since kindergarten. But now, I actually like life. I wake up every morning happy. I never noticed how much it bothered me that people didn't notice me until people started noticing me. My life is going great and it's all things to the boy in hospital bed! my boyfriend. I'm never going to get sick of calling Logan my boyfriend. I opened my eyes and pulled my head back up. I walked into the room and smiled at the 4 people in the room. They were laughing. It seems Logan made a joke about Jjay, with the fake anger on his face. The fake anger was only there for a moment before he started laughing also. "Hey look who finally decided to show up!" Jjay said as I walked fully into the room. I smile "Not all of us go running into a room the first chance we get, some of us like to take our time." I said. "Yea those people that just run into rooms quickly are such nerds," Cody said. We all stared to laugh. How did I get so lucky to have these 4 in my life? To have made friends that I feel will be there forever. I don't know what I did in life to get it but I'm happy I did. "So do you guys know how the game ended?" Logan said, "I stepped inside when I went and got your car..." "That reminds me do I still have a car?" "I am not THAT bad of a driver!" Amanda said. "You totalled two cars since you got your licence two years ago." "Neither of those were ruled my fault!" "Sure, anyway you walked inside?" "Right, so I walked inside to see the score since I know you would have wanted to know." Amanda said, "Apparently after you left, we scored 6 goals to end the game beating them 9 to 1. So yea, I'd say we won." "Really 9 to 1? I guess they don't need us anymore Jjay, scoring 6 goals without their two best players." "It's like they are all grown up and wanting to be independent. I hope we don't get kicked off the team now." Jjay said. "We are never going to hear the end of it," Logan said, "How they scored 6 goals without us. That we should be sent away because they don't need us." "We just have to go in and score 10 goals next time we both play together." Jjay said, "To show them they actually need us." "I wonder who they will move up from JV to take my place," Logan said, "I don't think know how long the Doc wants me to stay away from physical play." "They could move Scotty up?" I said, "He's our center on the first line." "They might, or they might move Matty or you ,Jjay, to center and pull one of you two up." Logan said, "I mean both you and Matty played center before Jjay. It's Matty natural position and all." "We'll see what happens. It's up to coach and all. No use trying to figure it out now." "Yea the only thing I have to worry about it trying to get back on the ice," Logan said, "That and trying to stay in game shape. The sitting around I'm going to do is going to be horrible for my game." After a few days Logan was released from the hospital. They didn't see any lingering effects of the fall and it doesn't seem like he has a concussion, but we should still watch him. Just in case something appears. He's also been told to stay away from competitive play for a little bit. Just in case something appears, being hit could make it worse. So Logan is forced to have to sit in the stands during the next few hockey games; which is going to be agonizing for him. Logan's parents apparently showed up on the day he was being released to pick him up and the other such things parents do at the end of hospital stays. And now we are standing at the gate to the ice rink in the arena. It was weird; we have been standing here for about 5 minutes. Was Logan scared to step out onto the ice? "Hey Log, are you okay?" I said from behind him. "Yea! I'm fine," he said, "I just am trying to get my head back. I don't know why I'm scared to step onto the ice. I've been hit and have fallen unconscious on the ice before and I actually got a concussion that time. But why now? Why can't I get on the ice now?" "It's okay to be scared Logan. You were hit hard," I said, "You would be crazy if you weren't scared." "I'm never scared though. I'm supposed to be fearless. That's how I've always been. It's what makes me be able to do things that no one else can!" "You are lying when you said you are fearless. No one is fearless," I said. "You may be right, but I'm supposed to be," he said. "It's what allows me to be able to control everything out there. Because if someone can't do it, I know I can. Because I don't fear what happens if I can't." "We can try another time Logan. I mean you were just released today. Maybe after a few days rest at home you will be able to skate again." "No, it has to be now. I have to! Skating and Hockey are what I am. I need to know I can still do one of them." I watched him take a few deep breaths. He took a step onto the ice and pushed off and glided on the ice. Just like how I imagined myself when I sat in the hallway after Cody, Jjay, and Amanda went into the hospital and the weight lifted from my shoulders. That is what Logan looks like right now. He looks like everything just left his shoulders. He was still able to skate. He wasn't going to try play for a little bit. That's going to take some time. He wasn't going to push himself too hard. At least I hope not. He better not push himself. He might end up hurting himself worse. I stepped on the ice and joined him in skating. He was still a little shaky when taking the turns but he seemed to be happy; to be free. I've said it before. But just watching him skate, I can tell this is what he lives for. This ice and this game. It keeps him together, from falling apart. This was his dream, here on the ice. And it's becoming my dream also!" All thanks to my Logan. I finally have a dream! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Well there is the 14th chapter of 'I'll Make you Popular' I hope you enjoyed it!
