"Jesus Christ did you have to shout in my ear?" Not only was I worried about permanent hearing loss I might have suffered. But having one of the most popular guys shout at you in the middle of the lunch room tends to attract a stare which is one thing that I tried incredibly hard to avoid. "Well...What do you expect it is not as though you guys are best of friends or anything..."he trailed off. The tension between Nic and myself was one the first things that Bry tried to remedy when we began our new founded friendship. Normally the mediator Bry took it upon himself to quell arguments and make sure everyone had a good time. In most circumstances this action is seen as meddling and officious but Bry having such happy-go-lucky attitude no one really saw it that way. When Bry found out about me and Nics relationship he could not help but try and patch it up. Apparently the conversation on the subject with Nic ended with something along the lines of butt out. Not that it harmed their friendship on the contrary the only time I am not verbally abused in Nic presence is when Bry is at hand it apparently has to do with following the man's code and respecting ones friends[but only effective in a 10 feet radius]. This is the reason why Bry felt it safe to invite me to Nic's party. "Well...I don't recall being someone else's friend before I started tutoring him" I said with a small smile. "That is different, I didn't hate you from the start" said Bry. "Who hates you?" said Katie giving Bry a peck on the cheek. Katie was my best friend before I even began talking to Bry. She happened to be in the freshman honors biology class with me and due to luck of the draw I got the lab partner from heaven. Now it's important to understand that when I first heard the name and saw the body that was attached to it I had the reflex to groan in despair. If you were a genetically predisposed over-achiever like I was you would have to. Katie had just moved to my district and no one knew her potential. To say that Katie was beautiful was an understatement. She was about 5'6 of Japanese descent. She had the slightly longer than shoulder length black hair with perfect complexion. She had the body of gymnast without being grossly muscular. Sitting down next to her my hopes weren't high. As the lecture started she started to scribble quickly which I assumed was doodles or a shopping list which was fairly common thing for a lot of kids to do, to look as though they were taking notes. Mid-lecture I chanced a glance and I saw she took the most detailed and unambiguous notes that I had ever seen complete with mini diagrams. I almost fell in love with her then but that would have to wait until the first lab of the semester in which she insisted that we were capable of exceeding the lab to perform additional test. A week after the lab report was due we hadn't gotten our reports back as most of the class we were approached by our science teacher. Whom had to apologies for the delay as he wanted to show a colleague of his our work and he said he hadn't even done until the third year college. So that is how I became friends with now one of my two best friends. After I started to tutor Bry and subsequently hanging out with him it was natural for Katie follow. Now a little of a year later my two best friends were dating. "Nicolas Pang" was my solemn answer. "I guess I should have figured since, no one else could hate you seeing as all you do is sit at home and study." She said sticking her tongue at me. "Gee thanks I don't think I tell enough how much I appreciate all you do to boost my self-esteem" I said with the most sarcastic voice I could muster. "Don't worry you are the most confident loner I know" she said with a laugh. At which I gave her a hand gesture that which resembled a flying animal that could have landed me detention. "But I thought all that stuff with Nic was over?" she prompted once her laughter subsided. At which I explained the events of the last few hours. "Well I think that's a good way to mend this stupid divided that is between you two. By the end of this if you help save the soccer team at least he will feel he owes you civility." she said. "I hope so" I muttered just wanting to put this whole debacle behind me. The rest of the day progressed smoothly and without incident. As math team finished after school. I was heading toward to the student parking lot passing the soccer field I saw the team concluding what I assumed was the first practice of the season. I saw Nic walking toward the showers. To say that I wasn't engrossed would be a lie. I mean come on I don't know one person that would not be infatuated by his body. Especially since he was coming off the soccer field with what seemed like half the mud on the field due to some heavy rains over the weekend. I watched as he ripped of his muck covered shirt to reveal the perfect chest that was glistening with sweat. From his hard pectorals supporting the perfect quarter size nipples that happen to be hard from the cool breeze to his treasure trail that I knew must have led to some jewels. I but once I realized I was staring I wrenched my head away as to not give Nic any more reason to taunt me. I promised myself then that I would have to control myself as not to be smitten with him especially during our tutoring sessions I needed to be professional. I hopped in my Lexus which was a gift from my divorcing parents. I guess one cannot get everything in life. I think I got the longer end of the stick and got to stay with my mom. She always was the more caring one while my dad was usually at work or in one of his moods and yelling. So not to be frank I think we got to keep the best part him his money through the child support and alimony. I do see him every other Sunday as part of the custody agreement and on those occasions he is relatively fine. "Hey, Mom." I said entering the kitchen where she was cooking what looked to be roast chicken. "Hey, Honey. How was school today?" she asked as I sat down and took a couple of her famous almond cookies out of the jar. "Not bad I got a new tutoring gig so there might be a new guy hanging around here while I try to help him get his grade up. Is that ok?" I asked nibbling on the cookie. I knew that she would not have had a problem with it but I was raised to always ask first. "As long as it's not another soccer player" she said with a laugh. "Your tutoring sessions with Bryan has nearly left us with homeless, I mean the amount the boy can eat." she added teasingly. My mom like everyone else quickly fell in love with Bry's charm the first time I brought him over. "Actually he is" I said grinning. "Do I know this boy" she asked her motherly curiosity peaked now. "Umm...Maybe...I think I might have mentioned his name. Nic Pang" I said sorta hesitantly. As I knew that I had brought up his name to her quite a few times last year. Especially during the beginning of the year when the harassment was most prevalent. Being motherly as always she even wanted to call the principal. An offer which I hastily declined. Her face suddenly became as stern as a rock. "Not the same boy that had a problem with you last year is it?" she asked. "The one and only but I think the tables have changed a little apparently I am the only one standing between winning the state championships or not. Plus I told Mr. Wong that if I get even the slightest amount of grief from him I was going to dump him and let him fend for himself." I said quickly in hopes of avoiding a lecture. "Mhmm...I guess you are right. I hope this means that he will be at least civil toward you" she said. "You know that is the exact same thing Katie to me when I told her about the tutoring sessions" I mentioned recalling the almost word for word similarities. "Well I guess great minds think alike." She said laughing again. "Now that you mention it I haven't seen Katie in while, ever since Bryan enthralled her." She said again with a small laugh. "Really mom `enthralled', more like seduced" I said laughing myself. "See what happened when you do not start seducing early. I always thought you and Katie would have made such a cute couple" she said standing up to check on the chicken. "If you say so, mom. By the ways do you think I can go to this party on Saturday? Bry invited me" I asked tentively. Half hoping she would say no to give me the perfect excuse to have to decline. "That's fine. Are you gonna be staying over at Bry's?" she asked. I knew that my hopefulness was futile as she like Bry thinks that I don't get out enough. "Yeah, I think so. I text you either way if I am planning to come home or not" I said. "Alright that sounds good" she said turning back to base the bird. "I'm going to try get some homework done before dinner" I said heading up the stairs. "Oh John. I almost forgot your dad called and he said Mr. Wie wanted to know if you could change your practice days to Sundays instead of Saturdays" she said. Mr. Wie was my golf coach and personal trainer. He was a really good friend of my dad and a really good golfer he would have made pro if he didn't have a bowling ball drop and shatter his ankle. "Yeah sure, that is fine" I shouted down the stairs at her. It was three less hours I have to spend with my dad. A/N: Hey so I know a lot you are expecting some steamy scenes and I thought I would get to it in this chapter I apparently failed. I just think this character introduction and devolvement is pivotal to the integrity of the story. I hope you all keep reading I promise it will start building up.
