He stood on the path like a whipped puppy but Paul regrouped fast and clambered down the hill close behind me. For the first time I felt shame for what I had done with Dart. It just suddenly hit me that I wasn't getting anything out of the deal but hot and bothered. Of course I did like being with him, talking to him, watching him, and anything else he'd let me do. I looked back and could still see him lying in the leaves with his eyes closed and his spandex peeled down. It was then Paul bumped into me. "What do you want?" I yelled. He stopped dead and looked at me again with soulful eyes as I put distance between us. I wasn't a mean person but I was to him. I think he got the frustration from wanting the hug and the kiss Dart wasn't about to give me and that I longed for. Gordo gave me the hug and the kiss but only in passing as he made his rounds. I didn't understand why they'd bounce from one person to the next if you could stick with one and know they'd be there for you. I thought of Kenny and the conversation from earlier that day. Kenny seemed to want something but not something he could verbalize. Like the rest of us, he was hung up on Dart. He too knew Dart was the unreachable star, oh, perhaps you could catch a few of his rays for a minute or two, but then he shot off in another direction, leaving you with only a memory of his brilliance. He'd had too much too often to consider settling for a single admirer. Gordo? I didn't have a clue about Gordo. He was the perfect boy for me but too little of him had left me with little hope of more. "I'm thirsty. I'm going to the Stop & Go across the street. I'll buy you a Coke." I stopped as I stepped onto the concrete that ran down to the trolley stop and to the stairs that would lead back up to the mall. I wanted to tell him to get lost and leave me alone with my confusion but then he said something that had me changing my mind. "I saw what you did to him." I didn't know what he meant. I knew what the words meant. He didn't say them like it was a threat. It was more like a piece of information he threw at me. He'd seen me give another boy a blowjob and now he wanted to buy me a Coke. Paul obviously wanted a piece of the action. He wanted it from Dart but I'd do in a pinch. I was stupid for being so obvious about what I wanted from Dart and then letting someone spy on me. I didn't regret doing what I did but this was an obstacle I thought I needed to take care of before he spread it around. "Something light," I said without warmth in my voice. "It's too hot for Coke." "Cool," he said, still looking like the puppy, only now it was the happy puppy that was only happy because you stopped beating him. He walked too close to me but I bit my tongue and kept my mouth shut. What did he want? I knew what he wanted. My jaws were sore and I wasn't in the mood to add to the collection of guys I was servicing. I didn't like him and I didn't want him hanging around me. I didn't know how to gracefully get rid of him so he didn't flap his jaws about where I so eagerly put mine. I still had to live around there for another year. I'd need to deal with Paul now if I didn't want to be labeled a cocksucker. "Fuck!" He said, lifting his shirt to reach for the pockets that weren't there. He looked horrified as he stared at me. He was standing in front of the register, his nicely cut six pack accented with tiny silken hairs that ran from his belly button into his well-worn shorts. His fat prick was fully erect and making an impression on me and the cashier as we waited for the next act in his bizarre behavior. It took him way to long to say, "I don't have my money. I just went skating." Two girls stood at one side of the counter and tittered while holding their hands over their mouths. Their eyes were on exactly what my eyes were on, and the cashier. "Jesus," I said. "Put your damn shirt down. Everyone knows you're a stud." I threw a five dollar bill up on the glass and the girls were lost in laughter as the cashier smiled while trying to cut off the laughter that was very near the surface. Paul's fair skin had a sudden red tint to it as he let the shirt drop back down to the top of his thighs. "I'm really sorry," he said as we made a hasty exit. "I thought I had.... I'll pay you back tomorrow. No, I've got classes tomorrow." "Oh shut up." He tried to stay beside me but I was moving too quickly trying to get out of the store. "Will you wait?" He said, dropping his board and picking it up while spilling out soda on his leg and his Nikes. "Shit! Slow up. I'm not going to chase you." He sounded like a little boy with too much to do. This guy was going to college and he was nearly helpless as far as I could tell. I sat on the very end of the curb and the two girls laughed and looked our way as they came out. I held the cup up in front of my face so maybe they wouldn't remember me. Paul stood in front of me as I looked at the almost white hair on his thick calves. I'd never seen anyone with more powerful legs and then there was those thighs and how he now used his hand just up under his shirt, absently feeling himself up as he tried again. "I don't know what to say to you." "Haven't you said enough," I said, anger seething in my words for no reason other than I was so hot for Dart that I let someone catch me doing what I was always dreaming of doing to him. "What do you want from me?" "I want you to talk to me. Okay!" "Right!" I said, thinking he either wanted some of the same or to use it against me. "I'm always like this around guys I like. It's always the same. They laugh at me. I can't help I'm spastic. I don't do it on purpose." I looked up at how wide his shoulders were, remembering the small flat stomach and the expanded Spandex. It did make my stomach quiver and my mind wander back to what Dart had wanted. I watched his fingers more vigorously explore himself as he lifted the shirt so I could see the entire bulge. His eyes kept watching my eyes and he knew he had gotten my attention. It was no more than a foot from my lips and if not for the comings and goings of the Stop & Go patrons, I could have easily been coerced into leaning forward and giving him what he obviously wanted, but there was no coercion. Put out or I'll tell the world didn't echo from his lips. He actually seemed quite harmless, save for his hair. "You ever thought of a haircut?" I asked, looking at the blond afro that made his head look too large and his face look too small. "All I got to do is get my hair cut and you'll like me?" "I didn't say that," I said, trying not to look at him fondle himself. He lifted his shirt high enough that I could see his belly button and then he forced it down to a frayed spot on the inside of his thigh. The skin had almost retreated off the head completely as he showed it to me. He forced the tip through the frayed threads as he looked around to see if anyone was coming towards us. He only let go once the tip was fully exposed and then he dropped his shirt down and sipped his soda while watching me take glances of his fat red tip. He positioned the shirt so it was just above his dick head. I stared and swallowed hard, needing some soda but not wanting to break the spell and he just stood there like that, his hand pressed down just behind the head so it would stick out further. A care door slammed and he let go of the exposed gland and it slipped back up into the spandex, slithering like a snake over to his thigh when he moved his leg in a certain way. "What are you doing?" "I figured it was what you liked. I saw you with Dart. I'm cool with that. Whatever you like is cool." "What I like? You expect me to go down on you in the parking lot of God damn Stop & Go?" "No. I don't know. What do you want to do? I'm cool with that. I just want you to talk to me is all." "I don't want to be having this conversation. I know Dart. I don't know you and you're showing me that thing." "It's where you kept looking." "You kept playing with it." "It's mine. I'm allowed." "Well I'm allowed to look if you're going to play with it in front of me." Another door slammed and we both jumped. "Fine," he said. In spite of the way my words sounded, there was a certain curiosity building in me about Paul. What did he want? The shy way he said the things he said seemed incongruous with the mass of boy in front of me. I had been sure he was working toward bargaining a blowjob for his silence, but he never once said anything like that. He didn't ask me to do anything. In fact he seemed intent on doing whatever it was I wanted to do. He'd exposed himself because he thought I liked the view. Why wouldn't he think that after seeing what I did to Dart? He seemed too nice for being so big but there was no doubt the view had a certain attraction I could no longer deny. "What do you think I'm doing?" "I haven't figured that one out yet, but I'll let you know when I come up with something." "I'm trying to get to know you. You don't make it easy. I mean we both like the same sort of thing. I know that but you do make it hard." "Oh, I did that," I said, cracking my first smile. "No, Dart did that. You just kept it going." I felt hurt when he said that. Why in the hell would I feel hurt? I didn't even like this guy. Well, I didn't think I did, not all that much anyway. Maybe I'd go with him to see that thing up close but that didn't mean I liked him. "Oh, you couldn't get Dart, so I'll do?" "I've known Dart for years. I know guys that have been with him. He treats me like I've got the plague. I've done everything but throw him on the ground." "He doesn't like collegiates. That's what he told me." "Don't much matter. I like him. I don't like that many guys." "What do you do?" I asked, more curious than ever. "Whatever you want. That's what I've been trying to say. I don't care as long as it's what you want." "You lift weights?" "Sure. I play soccer. We work out. It burns up the energy so I'm content with studying at night." "You got a nice stomach," I said. "I never seen anyone with all the grooves in it up close." "Crunches!" He lifted his shirt up above his stomach so I could examine him. "Crunches?" "Sit-ups. I do it with a weight on my chest. That's what gives you the six-pack. I do 500 to a 1000 each day." "Sit-ups." "Yeah. I do 500 pushups." "A day?" I asked. "Yeah." "I've done maybe 500 pushups in my life! No I haven't. Maybe I've done fifty." "So. You don't need to have muscles." "Why?" "You're totally cute, you know. I lied. I got the hard-on over you. I didn't want to tell you that right out." "Why?" "I didn't want you to get totally big headed. I already have enough trouble getting guys I like to talk to me. You saw the way Dart acted." "You were like totally staring at his dick, dude." "Like you weren't staring at mine? I been looking at Dart's dick for years. He always acts the same way. I just do it to piss him off now." "He's got a nice one." "Can we go out?" "I know him. I don't know you. I don't just blow anybody that wants it," I lied, thinking I'd like to blow him. "Can we go out? I've got classes all day tomorrow. Saturday! I'll meet you. We can skate. I'll bring money and buy you lunch. Please!" "Saturday? Let me think. Saturday." "Get over yourself," he said, looking away from my face but he was smiling from ear to ear because he knew I was going to say yes. "You are going out with me. You know you are. I know you are. Just say yeah and we'll meet where ever you say at whatever time you say and we'll do just what you want and nothing else." "I got chores early. Maybe eleven I could get out," I said. "I'll be there," he said. "Can I skate you home? I don't want to be alone right now. I mean I want to stay with you for a little while in case you don't meet me." Paul was easy to be around. He didn't ask me for anything, except to see him again. I wasn't sure about that. I mean, I wanted to see him again but I didn't know why. I didn't think he was my type but his body was awesome. He told me jokes and made me laugh. He smiled when he looked at me and kept telling me he had to see me again. I believed him by the time we got to my house. He stayed on the sidewalk as I skated to my door. He was still standing there watching me when I turned around to see if he was still looking. He smiled again and stood there until I finally went inside. My heart fluttered in a funny way and I didn't even like the guy, well, not all that much, I didn't think. He was cute in an odd sort of way.
