It Really Hurts


This is a story of tow boys the same age of 17, They have known each other
since they moved into the neighborhood about 15 yeas ago, They became
friends while playing T-ball, and their friendship has grown every since,
they seem to never go anywhere without the other. They have made a pact
between them, That they would always be together, nothing could ever or has
ever been able to tare them apart.

Michael O'Leary, was 5 foot 9 inches tall, he had a slim build, and never
seemed to put on any weight, He has auburn hair and blue eyes, he had a
very light complexion, he did not care for sports any longer, he quite
after his second year of T-ball, he never misses any of Jerry's games
whether home or away. Mike only had two secrets, first was that he was gay
and he was in love with Jerry, secondly was that he had know for 7 years
know that he had cancer. he was putting up a great battle and was
winning. Deep down in side, he and his family new that things could change
at any time, and that was the part that scared Mike to death.

Jerry Murray, was 5 feet 11 inches tall, he had a muscular build, He was on
all the high school teams, he had black hair and emerald green eyes, when
ever they had a road game, Mike would always ride with Jerry, to and from
the games.

While they were on the way to the game at the college field, because their
coach new the dean of athletics there and he asked to play their last game
there and they said yes. Jerry said, Mike I need to stop and get something
to eat, do you want something?

Mike said, no thanks it will ruin my dinner!

Jerry said Mike you need to start to eat more, you are beginning to look
sickly, I can not have my best friend getting sick on me.

Mike said, Don't worry I am fine, nothing to worry about. He had decided,
with a little help from his mom, that he should tell Jerry the truth.  He
had decided to tell Jerry today after the last game.

They had stopped and Jerry ordered several burgers and fries, and was on
the way to the stadium and eating at the same time. It was a ritual with
Jerry, actually a nervous habit. They finally got to the stadium and Jerry
ran into the locker room and Mike went and bought his ticket and went in
and sat down and waited for the game to begin.

Mike sat and watched the game, Jerry was making some really good plays and
they, they won by 6 runs, and finished the season with a 17 and 11
record. Mike sat in the bleachers and waited for Jerry to come out of the
locker room. When he saw him coming he got up and met him by the gate. they
walked and talked about the game on the way to the car.

Jerry asked, Mike if he wanted to stop at his house for a while?

Mike said , I would like you to come to my house, I want to talk to you,
it's important!

Jerry said, no problem! Let me stop and let my parents know. When they got
to Jerry's house he pulled into the drive and said he would be right out.

Mike was waiting and he was getting very nervous, he was trying to maintain
control of his emotions.

Jerry came out and got in the car, he looked at Mike and said, hey buddy
what's up, you looked worried about something.

Mike said, I will tell you when we get to my house.

They backed out of the drive and headed over to Mike's house. When they got
there, they went in and went up to Mike's room.

Mike asked Jerry to sit and then asked if he wanted something to drink.

Jerry said, no thanks I am good.

Mike started by saying, Jerry I have been keeping a secret from you,
actually there are two secrets I need to tell you, all I ask is that you
wait to hear both of them before you leave if that is what you decide to
do.

Jerry looked at Mike and said, do you want my to promise, or will you take
my word for it.

Mike smiled and said, your word has always been enough for me.

Jerry said, ok what is on your mind that is so important?

Mike took a deep breath and sat on the chair by the computer, he looked at
Jerry and said, well the first thing I want to say is that I have known for
the past 4 years that I am gay, I that I have loved you since I was 12.

Jerry stood up and walked around the room and said nothing, he turned and
looked at Mike and said, I think I have known that for a while but I did
not want to believe it, what else do you have to tell me?

Mike asked Jerry if he would sit down again?

Jerry sat back down on the bed and said, ok what is it.

Mike looked Jerry in the eyes and said, I have cancer, it is in remission
now but that could change anytime, I just wanted you to know, now if you
want to leave you can.

Jerry stood up again and started walking around the room and stopped and
was looking out the window, he was just standing there.

Mike got up and walked over and put his hand on Jerry's shoulder and asked
are you ok.

Jerry turned and had tears running down his cheeks, he said I can deal with
you being gay, because I love you as a friend and nothing more than that, I
am sorry that I don't feel the same way towards you, what I can not deal
with is the possibility that I may lose my best friend forever.

Mike said that he had lied to him about all the trips to relatives houses,
they were trips to the hospital for treatments.

Jerry asked, why did you not tell me, I would have understood, I would have
gone with you!

Mike said, Jerry I know that and that was why I did not tell you, I did not
want you to see me like that.

Jerry said you should have told me!

Mike said, I wanted you to concentrate on your baseball, not worry about
me, I thought it would be better if I waited until after the season to tell
you.

Jerry said, you know I remember when we were 10 and you broke your arm, you
waited for almost an hour before you told me your arm hurt, because you
wanted me to finish skateboarding first, you have always put me first over
you, I should have said something before now.

Mike said, well are you ready to leave now?

Jerry said, what, are you kidding, just when my best fiend needs me, not on
your life.

Mike told Jerry that he had to go to the doctor tomorrow, so he would not
be in school.

Jerry said well won't be in school either, I am going with you from now on,
and that's that.

Mike looked at Jerry and said, I am very happy that you want to go with me,
you know you don't have to, I will understand if you change your mind,
there will be no hard feelings.

Jerry said, what kind of a friend would I be, my best friend has a major
problem, do you think I can just turn my back on you, Mike if I was able to
do that then I would not be a very good friend.  Being gay is something
that I think we can both live with, your cancer is something that we can
not both live with, I will be there for you, rain or shine, that is what
best friends do. Jerry looked at mike and could see the tears in his eyes,
he pulled him close and hugged him, I think you needed that from me, I will
be here for you.

Mike was shaking, he was so afraid that his friendship with Jerry was going
to end, he was scared that he would have to go through all of this by
himself. He had been feeling odd that past few days and was worried about
the doctor visit tomorrow.

Jerry asked what time his appointment was.

Mike said that it was at 10 :30.

Jerry said, maybe I will just stay here tonight, I will call my mom and let
her know, that way I will be here in the morning and I don't have to hurry
and get over here.

Mike said, thanks, you know I only have this king size bed.

Jerry said, well I have shared the bed with you before I knew you were gay,
I guess I can share it with you now.

Mike said, I am very happy and lucky to have a friend like you.

Jerry smiled and said, just make sure that it is going to be for a very
long time.

Mike got a sad look on his face, he said, I promise that I will try to make
it last forever.

Jerry smiled and said that's good enough for me.

MIke said that he had to got eat, he walked out of the bedroom and he was
followed by Jerry, they headed into the kitchen, Mrs. O'Leary

was just finishing dinner, Mike said, mom Jerry wants to stay here tonight,
is it ok.

Mrs. O'Leary smiled and said, sure, just as long as he let's his parents
know.

Jerry said I will call them while you eat dinner.

Mrs. O'Leary said, you will do no such thing, you sit down here and have
dinner with us.

Mike smiled at his mom and said, mom I told Jerry what was going on, so he
knows.

Mrs. O'Leary smiled and walked over to Jerry and hugged him, thank you for
being here for Mike, it means the world to have you here.

Jerry smiled and said, How could I let my favorite munchkin face this by
himself.

Everyone sat down to eat.

Jerry noticed that Mike did not eat very much, He also noticed that he
looked very tired, and looked to be half asleep while he was eating dinner.

When they finished, mike offered to help clean up the dishes and kitchen.

Mrs. O'Leary said, never mind you go and rest.

Mike got up, walked over and kissed his mom and said thanks your the
greatest.

Jerry said let go to your room and play some video games.

Mike smiled and they headed for his room, they got there and went in and
closed the door.

Jerry got out a couple games and asked it they were ok.

Mike said sure, whatever you want to play is fine with me.

Jerry played first and when he was finished , he said to Mike, your turn,
he turned and looked at Mike and he was sound asleep leaning up

against the foot board of the bed. Jerry went out into the living room and
asked to talk to Mrs. O'Leary privately.  they went into the kitchen

and sat down. Jerry lookede very worried, he asked, how is Mike really
doing.

Mrs. O'Leary, suddenly looked very sad, she said that he was become
increasingly more and more run down in the past several days, she

was starting to worry about him as well. When I ask him questions, he
always tells me he is fine, I just think that he does not want to worry
me. Jerry I am very nervous about the doctors appointment tomorrow, she had
tears rolling down her face, Jerry stood and went over and hugged her and
said, that he was going to be there no matter what, and made her promise to
call him anytime someting was not right.

Mrs. O'Leary agreed, said thanks for being here for him, it really means a
lot to him.

Jerry said, Mike fell asleep on the floor while playing video games.

Mrs. O'Leary said, I will go and put him in bed. he took his Pills and he
won't wake up until the morning.

Jerry Said, Don't worry about him tonight, I will take care of him.

Mrs. O'Leary stood up and Kissed him of the cheek and said, You are a real
friend to Mike and I am glad he told you.

Jerry smiled and said, I better go put him in the bed. he said good night,
turned and heaed for Mike's room. he went in and closed the door behind
him, walked over to where Mike was sleeping and gently picked him up and
carried him to the bed, he laid him down and slowly started to remove his
clothes, when he had Mike down to his boxers, he just looked at him, he
thought, oh my God, thsi was the first time that Jerry had seen Mike in
just his boxers, when he stayed at his house he alwasys wore pajamas, this
was the first time that he saw how thin and fragile Mike looked, He
suddenly got a very odd feeling and a chill ran through his entire body. He
covered Mike up and walked around to the other side of the bed, got
undressed and got in bed.

Mike turned on his side, and a couple minutes later he cried out " PLEASE
DON'T LEAVE ME! "

Jerry scooted ove to Mike and slid his arm under him, pulled him close,
Mike tried to get comfortable and finally did, he had his head on Jerry's
chest, and he seemed to become very relaxed.

Jerry started to rub Mike's back and he could feel Mike starte to relax and
breathe normal, Jerry was laying there with all sorts of things running
through his mind, He finally dozed off.
