If this material may offend you I suggest you stop reading this now. Jumper: We are Real Hi I'm Sam, and I'm gay. I'm not really out of the closet but I don't hide it either. I'm about 5'8 and very built because I've been going to the gym since 7th grade. I'm pretty good looking I have really blond hair, almost bleached that goes to just above my eyebrows I have a pretty angular face which helps and green eyes, not a stunner but not someone overlooked .Looking at me you would never guessed I'm gay. I look like an average teenager. I am not shunned for being gay though. I go to a charter school for the arts so people being gay are a pretty normal thing. I'm a junior and in the theatre and music department of my school. As if being a gay teenager who spends all day acting and singing instead of doing actual schoolwork isn't cool enough for me. I'm also a Jumper. Yeah, like the movie. I'm not exactly like how the movie portrays us; I just like to use the name because the movie explained it so well. Except in my life I have no people out to kill me because I can teleport. But enough about me. Your here to listen to the story of how I fell in love, but if you're looking for a story where all goes well and we fall in love and live happily ever after I'm not the guy to guarantee you that. It was the first week after winter break and the auditions for the spring play were supposed to be sometime this week. We were doing my favorite play: Rent. I was trying out for the part of Roger. I was so excited. I had seen this play so many times and could recite backwards. I had only been at this school for the past semester and not have participated in the fall musical I didn't know the competition. I was walking down the hall to my first class of the day when he brushed my shoulder. He was about 3 inches taller than me with short honey brown hair. He was in great shape and wearing a tank top so I guessed he was in the dance department. Departments don't really mingle much during school hours, so I didn't think he would be in any of my classes, but extracurricular activities were open to everyone. So I was hoping. I might see him at auditions for the play, but knowing that Rent wasn't a very big dance production I wasn't hoping for much. I was still staring at him when my best friend Layla talked close enough to my ear to make me jump. "Whatcha lookin at Sammy?" Layla was a beautiful 5'3 Latino who could sing like an angel and dance better than the devil himself. She had brown eyes, about shoulder length brown curly hair, and beautiful bone structure. She knew I was gay, and was also my only friend who knew about my jumping abilities. Layla was in between departments so both teachers from music and dance let her roam in and out of classes. Layla was lucky, most of the time they make you pick but she is so amazing at both they don't want to force her to pick and risk losing her. "Nothing much, just the occasional hottie." Layla traced my line of sight down to the guy I was staring at. "oooohhh he is cute, mind if I talk to him?" I knew the chances of him being gay were slim so why let him lose out on an awesome girl so I said sure. I walked with Layla to catch up with him and our eyes met for a brief second before Layla said hi. I noticed he had gray-blue eys that went beautifully with his short brown hair. "I'm gonna go to the Dance class this one is going to, I'll catcha later Sammy" Layla whispered. "You must really like this one, your actually chasing him, that's new." Layla grinned and walked off next to this mystery man. Looking at her as she walked away I realized how good she looked. She was wearing Red heels high enough to be stilettos along with a pair of normal skinny jeans and a gray long sleeved shirt with a red scarf twined around her neck once with both ends falling down her chest. Her Brown hair was curled and fell a little past her shoulders and she was wearing a pair of silver hoops in her ears. In one word: Goddess. Shes the type of girl boys worship. The type of girl who the movie industry puts as the head cheerleader who gets every guy but Layla is missing the bitchy attitude. But we were both new kids, so we bonded in the orientation they have for all new kids. Unlike Layla I do not have the outgoing personality she has so I haven't made as many friends as her. My first class of the day was Theatre history. Which was a pretty boring class if we didn't do hands on learning. Today we had a pop quiz about Shakespeare. I knew Shakespeare well enough that I was finished the test about 3rd and had about half an hour of class left so I decided to ask for a hall pass to go practice my monologue in the theater. Every other hour of class the theater was left open to students who were let out of class and allowed to go practice. I got to the theater earl enough that no one had decided to occupy it. I jumped up to the stage, and by jumped I mean teleported. Usually I don't use my power in school but no one was in there and it was a pretty long walk from the doors to the stage. Basically another act of teenage laziness. I did my monologue about ten times without a hitch before I trusted that I knew it. I then when into my audition song which I was more nervous about. I got into the first couple of lines before the nerves wore off. I sounded great and the echo in this theater was only enhancing the song. I was singing in a soft but powerful way. The theater faded and I fell into the scene of the song. This song is originally sung by another character but the role I am auditioning for has no solo songs. The song was about a man in love, but his lover died of AIDS while he survived with the disease now listening to the clock tick down as his musical success has gone nowhere. When I finished I sucked in air and took in my surroundings. I jumped when I started to hear clapping. I looked into the shadows in the back of the theater and spotted Layla and the mystery guy. Layla had been the one clapping and now she was walking towards the stage. "Good job Sam" "thanks" I replied a bit shyly. "I didn't know anyone was watching." "Well you sounded great. I want you to meet my new friend Reese" The mystery man stepped around Layla and held an outstretched hand toward me. I shook it and introduced myself. "You have a great voice by the way" I blushed at his comment and Layla stifled a laugh at watching me blush. Once my skin tone was back to my normal tan, I sat down on the edge of the stage while Reese and Layla sat in a couple of front row seats a couple feet in front of me. Layla brought up the topic of my audition again an started critiquing me. I welcomed her criticism, it was better than just compliments. Gives me something to think about when I practice. "I love you Sam but during the beginning of that song you looked a little constipated." Reese chuckled a very sexy chuckle. I blushed a sort of how could you say that about me in front of him blush. "Are you two dating?" The question caught me off guard. One because I thought Layla would have done enough flirting before she brought him in here to make it obvious that she was single, and two because when someone usually asks that question they ask it because they have interest in one of the two people. I felt a little spark of hope before I realized he was probably just asking that to see if Layla was available. "Nope" I said "and you wanna know why?" I stood up and started singing maneater by Nelly Furtado. "She's a man-eaterrrrrrrrr??" Layla was look at me in shock while Reese was cracking up. The bell rang and I hopped off the stage as Reese's laughter died down. I picked up my bag and said to Layla "Is the constipation gone" with a wink. Reese cracked a smile. We left the auditorium and Reese said goodbye to us an me and Layla went to our next class. "I can't believe you embarrassed me like that in front of him!" she said as soon as Reese was out of earshot. I giggled an listened to her drone on and on about it I tuned back in when I heard her say "I hope he asks me to the dance. The dance was a themed school dance that happened every year a couple weeks after break. It's mostly filled with dance students who take up the stage and intimidate all the music and and theatre students into not dancing for fear of looking stupid next to the dancers. "This year's themes is masquerade." I wasn't a bad dancer and could probably keep up enough with the dancers to not look stupid. I was excited. Except for the part about finding a date. I then had an idea. "Hey Layla, will you give me dance lessons so I don't look stupid?" Layla pondered for a moment. "Sure why not, but these won't be like modern dances. I will be teaching you the salsa, the marangay, mambo, etc?.." "I know, and thank you maybe if I can dance I'll have a better chance at finding a date." "Are you asking a boy or a girl?" I hadn't thought about this. I liked guys and while I was open about it not everyone knew. I was sure I could find a girl who would go with me, and a guy probably too. "Good Question." The rest of the day was good as my theater class ended and I went to lunch. When I got to the cafeteria I searched for Layla at our usual table but she wasn't there. Maybe she was late, so I walked over and sat down and started eating. I did a quick sweep of the cafeteria and eventually found Layla. She was sitting at the same table as Reese. I gave it a quick thought before deciding to stay at our table. They were surrounded by a bunch of people I didn't know, and I was sure there was more to come. There was probably no room for me, and I was perfectly content eating by myself. I started going over my monologue again. About twenty minutes into lunch Layla came and sat by me. "Whats up?" she asked. "nothing, just eating my PB&J." "Why are you eating all alone?" "Well my best friend sort of left me for this guy" Layla looked at me with a that's really funny look. "Anyway, he did it, He asked me to the dance." My heart sank. So he wasn't gay, but this wasn't an unusual thing. Liking an unavailable guy. "You've only known each other for half a day." "Yeah but I've basically stalked him for half the day." I laughed. "So I decided to try out for the play" Layla said "I totally fit the part as Mimi anyway, and plus we would get to spend more time together and I talked to Reese and convinced him to do stage crew." "Oh, I almost forgot, do you want to come get a bite to eat with us today after school? Reese has a sister who is a sophomore and she will be coming along, I thought she might be a potential dance date." I said I would go and then left I needed to get some homework done before my next class. I went to the study room and sat down at a nearly empty table with another girl there. I pulled out my work and started. "May I borrow a pencil?" I looked up and saw a very pretty girl looking at me. "Sure" I handed her my spare pencil and she took it. "Thanks, I'm Claire" She held out her hand which I shook. "I'm Sam, nice to meet you." "Whatcha workin on there?" "Just some homework for my next class, music history" "Hey I have that class next too!" I had never seen her before in there so I was wondering if she was pulling my leg. "I just transferred from dance to the theatre and music department. I actually have the same homework but don't understand any of it, could you help me?" "Sure." So for the next half hour we worked on homework together while we chatted about nothing important. It was a lot of fun and Claire and I had a lot in common. "Hey do you wanna hang out after school sometime?" it kind of fell out my mouth, I didn't mean to say it, just think it. She smiled and blushed "Sure but I can't today I have to go meet some people. It'll probably be boring and I'll try to get out of it. Give me your cell and I'll text you." I realized my request might've come off as a date request, and I'm not sure if that was how I meant it. I left there and went to my last two classes of the day.In music history Claire didn't sit near me so we didn't talk anymore like I thought we would have. After the last bell of the day rang I found Layla and we were on our way to the restaurant. About ten steps out the door Layla stopped "What the hell? You're going to actually make me walk?" I laughed and shook my head. I grabbed her hand and we jumped. We walked inside the restaurant and saw a lot of familiar faces, it was a regular hangout for people from our school. Layla saw Reese sitting in a booth and waved and pulled me toward him, half the booth was hidden and so I was left still wondering who my mystery date was. Layla started to walk ahead of me and when she got to the booth she slid on the side reese was on. Great, I thought. Now I have to sit next to a random stranger. I turned and felt my jaw drop. Sitting there was Claire. I had an odd reaction. I started laughing and so did Claire. "Whats so funny?" Layla and Reese asked at the same time. And as a reaction to their unison they started laughing. It was a fun time. Me and Claire had fun and Layla and Claire had a great time too. Layla and Claire decided to go dress shopping since Claire had said she saw this store that had really beautiful dresses and wasn't very popular. As they ran out Layla whispered "meet me at my house in an hour for the lessons." I payed for me and Layla's meal and me and Reese walked out together. He got stopped by his friends and started talking to them. I kept walking. When I was at the edge of the parking a lot and about to jump home a silver Toyota four runner rode up next to me and stopped. The passenger window was rolled down and a familiar voice asked "You want a ride?" It was Reese. "No thanks, it's not really a far walk." I kept walking but Reese wasn't taking no for an answer. He leaned over and opened that passenger door. I gave in and hopped into the car. It was a silent ride. The only sound was the radio playing. "I thought you said your house was close, were already five miles away from the restaurant." "Well I guess I just see distance different from other people." "I can tell." There was an awkward silence which I decided to fill. "So are you and Layla like an item?" he seemed hesitant to answer the question. " I mean I think shes cool and all, but I don't really see her that way. More as a friend." I guess he decided to direct the attention away from himself. "How about you and my sister?" "Don't worry I'm Gay." It kind of blurted out of my mouth. Oh god! I read about this once in a magazine, when you blurt something embarrassing out on a date (not that this was a date) you're supposed to direct attention away from that topic. So I did what was natural for me, I jumped. We had just turned on to my street anyway, we were only a couple houses away and I landed on my doorstep. I turned and saw Reese's car come to a skidding halt in front of my neighbors house which I took as his reaction to me being gone. He kept driving after I guessed he had seen me on my doorstep. I took this another step farther and jumped back into his car. His face was a mask of shock, and he didn't say a word. I shot him a cheap smile "Ta-Da." I said weekly. That's the end of chapter one, I know this isn't a very sexual story but I will be getting into that in the next chapter. Thanks for reading.
