This was so humiliating, the first day of "Band Camp" for the freshman. The "Band Camp" really isn't a camp either, I just have to spend a whole Saturday and Sunday doing marching band stuff, what a waste of a weekend. My parents said I would make more friends and get adjusted to high school easier, how wrong could anyone be? I'm sitting here, on a stupid football field, with a bunch of losers, who already know each other from middle school, I just moved here from another state, so I just get to sit off to the side being extra lame, so much fun, thanks parents! I suppose I should introduce myself, the name's Travis. I'm kinda short, only 5'5", red spiky hair, freckles all over my face, pretty thin, and I'm 15. My parents tell me I'm so handsome and cute, but that's what they're supposed to say. I'm just your typical in-the-closet gay teenager. It'd be nice to run around and tell everyone that I like guys, but that whole being beaten with baseball bats thing just doesn't appeal to me. Oh well though, it's not too bad, just hard on me sometimes (pun not intended!). All of us freshman were waiting for the upper-classmen that were going to teach us to "march" to show up. I think all the freshman got here early due to the classic parental "you have to be early on the first day, you don't want to miss anything" saying. Not even the Band Teacher was here yet! When will parents learn? Slowly but surely, a few cars started driving up, carrying the select upper-classmen who were to instruct us, and also the Band Teacher. Once everyone seemed to have arrived, the teacher had us separate into groups by instruments. The one redeeming thing about band was I played saxophone, one of the less lame instruments. So I wandered over to where the other sax players were. I looked around, and counted about 9 freshman total. I was very bummed when I quickly scanned the other sax's, not a cute guy in the bunch. A few ok guys, but no gorgeous ones. Oh well, at least I won't get distracted all the time. There were two upper-classmen saxes that introduced themselves as Heather and David. Heather was kind of short and fat, and David was tall and geeky. Both of them seemed really uptight, totally into "Marching." I could already tell this was going to be VERY boring. David and Heather began discussing what we were to do today, and off in the distance a "thump thump" of a car stereo started getting closer. All of us freshman quickly turned our attention from the boring lecture to the new and exciting noise that was getting closer. I heard David mumble "so he is going to show up" to Heather. As the stereo became closer, we all looked toward the front of the parking lot, to see a small blue saturn come ripping into the lot, tires squealing and everything. (If you've ever seen a saturn moving really fast, you know how comical this sight is). The saturn quickly pulled up and parked in two parking spots. The stereo turned off with the engine, which was somewhat disappointing, it was some cool techno coming out of that car. The band teacher went whizzing past us heading toward the car, obviously agitated. And OMIGOD! Out of that car stepped an absolutely gorgeous guy. He was about 5'9", built fairly well, he had a slight tan on his arms and face. He had this short dirty blond hair that swayed slightly as he got out of his car. He looked to be about 16 or 17. The teacher rushed up to him and started yelling at him, and he just sat there, completely nonchalant, said a few choice words to the teacher, who stormed off to do what he was doing. I unconsciously crossed my fingers and kept saying in my head "please let him be a sax, please let him be a sax." He wandered around to the trunk of his car, and fiddled around inside till he pulled out a shiny saxophone and strapped it to his neck. I bit my lip to keep from yelling "YES!" out load. He walked up to all of us, and did a half wave at us and announced "Hey kiddies, I'm Keith." I ignored that kiddy comment, its probably just how most upper-classmen think of us freshman anyways. David and Heather then continued their little lecture on marching to us, how to start on the correct foot, the tempo, blah blah blah. Keith sat down and looked bored like the rest of us, I was starting to really like this guy already (insert evil grin here). We sat there listening for about 15 minutes or so, when Heather and David decided it was time to finally start learning how to march. After some discussion between all three of them, they decided that us freshman were to be split up into 3 groups of 3, and each of them would teach on of the groups. Once more, my fingers involuntarily crossed themselves. Heather just counted us off "1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, and 3" I was a 3, I didn't know if that was good or bad. Heather then announced in her somewhat nasally voice "1's with me" this was sounding very good for me so far, David announced "2's with me." Inner scream of joy, today just became 10x better than it was before. Keith slowly stood up "Guess that leaves me with the 3's." The other 2 quickly hurried off their protégé to some other area to begin boring them to death. I noticed the other 2 lucky chosen ones where very geeky looking guys, oh well, less competition (I think I should probably wipe the evil smile off my face, otherwise I might seem eager to learn how to march!) We could already hear all the other groups getting clapped at, as the freshman attempted to step in time to the claps. "Ok guys, before I start clapping at you like a moron, what are your names?" Keith said, as he pointed at one of the geeks who quietly said "Brett" then he pointed at the other one, who again quietly said "Todd" and then he pointed at me, and I looked down at the ground and even quieter than the other two said "Travis." Bravo me, I look like an idiot or something now! Keith stared around at the other leaders, seeing what they were doing to teach the freshman, maybe this was his first time teaching the freshman? He turned back to us, and quickly stated "This is very boring, we're going to the parking lot." The 3 of us, looked at each other, then just followed him down the small hill from the field to the parking lot. "Ok guys, first we get the basics" Keith quickly explained how to actually start marching and how to keep from bobbing like an apple. I think he spent maybe all of 2 minutes doing so. "Alright, clapping at you to march is very boring, so we're going to march to music, besides, its easier that way anyways." He then opened his car door, and bent down inside, giving all of us a very clear view of his ass, the other two seemed to be curious as to what he was doing. I, on the other hand, was staring at two very shaped ass muscles. Before I could study his ass anymore, a Backstreet Boys song came blasting out of his car, "Everybody" to be exact. He popped his grinning head out of the car, "Allrighty, like this guys" and he started marching to the Backstreet Boys. I started laughing, it was just too funny not to laugh. He stopped very quickly, and flashed an evil grin at me, "Your turn!" We spent the next few hours trying to look less like idiots as we marched around to various songs Keith chose. He had fantastic music taste too, a little techno, pop, basically just all good music. I really want to ask this guy out, but he'd probably just call me a fag and hit me in the face. About 1 o'clock in the afternoon the band teacher told everyone that it was lunch break for an hour. All the freshman, and a lot of the upper-classmen pulled sandwiches and other lunch stuff out and started mingling and eating. My parents of course, forgot to think that I would need a lunch, so I just sat on the grass looking bored. Keith wandered up to me looking at me curiously "Don't you got some food? Or are you going to starve?" "My parents forgot to give me a lunch" I responded, somewhat quietly. I was very curious as to why he was even asking. "Ouch man, I was going to head to Subway and grab some food, wanna come with?" Oh shit! What should I say, this cute guy was asking to take me to lunch! Hold on, this isn't a date, just say yes, its not a date, he just wants to be friends, right? Double shit, I have no money. "Sure, but I have no money" Wait, need to sound like I want to go anyways. "I'd like to get out of here anyways though." Good, that should work. "Well, get in the car, I'll cover for ya. Being bored all day is hard work, you need food." He was so nice! We both hopped into his car, and he started it up, and we headed out of the parking lot. Once we got out of sight of the school, he pulled out a pack of cigarettes and popped one in his mouth. He looked over at me "Mind if I smoke, I've been dying all day?" Thank you powers that be, I'd been craving a cigarette, and I hadn't found a new source for them since I moved to this new state. I gave him my best puppy dog eyes "Can I have one?" "You smoke?" "Yeah, please please please can I have one?" "Sure" He laughed as he gave me a cigarette, lit his own, and passed the lighter to me. As we drove to subway, we smoked and chatted about what school and band was going to be like. We were listening to Backstreet Boys on the way there. Maybe he was gay? I couldn't really tell though, so I was going to play it safe and say nothing at all. I'd like to date him and all, but the idea of being ridiculed and beaten my whole highschool career is just too much of a risk, that and he seems to be my new source for nicotine, but maybe if I get a better idea about him... We ate our lunches, and smoked once more as we headed back to band. The rest of the day was really boring, the groups all got back together, and David and Heather clapped at us to get us to march. Keith was right though, marching to music first did help. The whole day ended about 5 o'clock, everyone's parents started showing up. I had to wait, my parents wouldn't show up till 6, they were off doing they're thing as always. It didn't take long for everyone to take off. I was just sitting alone on the edge of the field, killing time waiting for my parents. Keith came walking up to me, but before he could ask about my predicament I queried him "What are you still doing here?" "I was going to ask you the same thing. I had to talk to Mr. Gordon" Score, I asked first! Mr. Gordon was the band teacher, I don't think I mentioned that before. "So what are you doing here then?" "My parents won't be able to pick me up till 6." I dropped my head at that last statement. "That's a bummer man, I kinda know how that is though. Well, I was hoping you'd still be here anyways, I was wondering if you'd like to come over to my place and play video games or watch a movie or something?" Calm down Travis, its just video games! "Sure, I just gotta call my parents to tell them not to pick me up." "You can use the phone in Mr. Gordon's office, follow me." And follow him I did, I watched his perfect ass move up and down as we walked to the office. I picked up the phone and dialed my mom's cell phone. It rang for a bit, then she picked up. "Hello?" I heard my mom's voice. "Hey mom, its Travis, one of the guys from Band Camp invited me to hang with him and play video games, can I go?" I was trying not to sound too excited, as Keith was listening to me speak. "I told you you'd meet some friends didn't I honey?" Why are parents always so polite to point it out every time they're right? "Yes mom, I know you did. But can I go?" They also seem to need every question asked twice. "Sure, are you going to spend the night?" "I don't know mom, maybe, if its alright with him and his parents" "Well, if you can't, you'll have to have his parents drive you home, me and your father are going to dinner tonight." "That's fine mom, he drives a car." "Oh fantastic, well, have fun dear, bye." At least I never had to convince my mom to let me do things I wanted to. I hung up the phone and turned to Keith. "Its ok for me to come, I can spend the night too if you want." Oops, maybe that was coming on too strong... "Awesome, sure you can spend the night, I didn't think you'd want to, but since you do, sure!" I don't think stuff like this has gone so well in my fantasies! We left the school and headed for his car. I'm so excited, a night at this babe's house! End of Chapter 1 Any comment or suggestions please write to IronFreeze@aol.com Flames will be ignored.
