I The American flag waved slowly in the spring breeze, rippling at every ebb and flow of the cool gales. I laid back against the metal bleachers and set my hands behind my head, taking in the sunlight, letting the wind flow through my oxford shirt as I watched the teams on the field below, moving back and forth, side to side. Lacrosse was a hell of a sport. I'd never been very good at it, and envied those who could. I did, though, attend every one of their games, trying not to act like a superfan, but sitting unobtrusively on the lower sections of the bleachers, mixed among those who screamed and yelled the hearts out at each play. At a glance, almost anyone would think that I attended all these games for the sheer enjoyment of seeing our school represented on the playing field. This inference is partially correct. What was the reason I attended these games? What was the reason I postponed all my homework, and let go of all my free time? It was the team. The...pyhsical aspect of the team members themselves that is. Some of the best looking guys anyone could ever imagine played the great sport of Lacrosse here at The St. Francis Boys Academy. Every time I went to these games, I felt a lump in my throat. There was something wrong here. I was supposed to be gay. I never wanted to be. I'm surrounded by religion every day, and I'm surrounded by the words 'homosexuality is a sin'. I never chose to be gay. I never did, and would never. But somehow, I was. Hell, was I even gay? I mean, a girl would walk by me while I was on the beach or downtown and give me an eye, I'd follow her ass until she disappeared, but if there happened to be a cute guy walking by at that moment..it's as even if there was never any chick. Talk about a tough life to live. A gay in a Catholic boys school. Was I the only one? Were there actually more? Statistically, yes...around 10% of the population was homosexual, but at a conservative school like this, no one would dare come out, so the truth remained unseen. On top of that, I was a member of the Republican party. Talk about brutal. I constantly listened to the battering down of gay rights at meetings, and spoke at nothing. I dared not leave the party, because gay rights was practically the only part the party and I disagreed upon. Crime and punishment, defense, economics, business..all my opinions were geared conservatively. I knew that telling anybody I was gay would devestate my family, especially my grandparents, who I adored beyond the ends of the earth. I always tried to never give off any signals, and was pretty good at it, since I did not have the stereotypical femme characteristics of gays, besides my love of clothing, not saying that would be a stereotype. I think that was brought about by being surrounded by my parents friends, some of which sold luxury clothing, for most of my childhood. "There once was a barefoot boy with cheeks of tan, who stood a sitting in the sand." My grandpa would say to me as a little kid. I was practically the same kid as I was back then...only...you know...taller. I'm Evan Laurent, 5'11", 155 lbs, easily tanned skin, bright green eyes, dark blonde hair, and a freckle line across my nose that sprouted like crazy in the summer. I was not hurting on the looks...as I've been told. But through all this, I was actually happy, and had amassed a huge amount of friends around the campus. I even went cruising on weekends with some of them to the downtown nightlife, not that any of us were old enough to get in to the clubs, and definitely not old enough looking to fool any bouncer. We partied together as much as 17 year old Catholic school boys could, we hung out in the dorms, pulled pranks on the teachers, and caused all around mischief. We differed here and there. When a wandering girl caught their eye, they paid attention to her, but me, I watched them. Their eyes, hair, and smooth lines... Cross country came each fall, and was tough for me. How could I run among all these guys, wearing the bare minimum, and still contain my sexual excitment. Somehow I did- every season. Tennis came every spring, and since the clothing was more abundant, it was more tolerable, and in my opinion, while cross was a high tension sport, tennis was a way to relax, to get the winter drear out of my system. But of course, lacrosse was definitely the sport of the year. Players #3, #4, #22, #45 were all top of the line, but the reason I watched the sport was #30- Trevor Corczynski. Trev was an athletic kid, slenderly built with top muscle tone that was gained from just running and playing sports. His tan skin sparkled in the sun, complimented by his blue eyes and light brown hair. He lived two rooms down from me, and his roommate and mine were best friends, so Trev and I got to spending a lot of time together. Back when I first met him, I had no idea that I was gay, or bisexual, or whatever the hell I am. As time rolled on, I began to stare more and more at him. When he played on the field, I barely took my eyes off him. He was playing a lot at today's game, and was in possession of the ball as the horn blew, and the academy won the game by a landslide. I cracked a smile as he walked over to me after the team had done their debriefing. He slapped my leg and took a seat next to me, outstretching his arms, and resting his head against the bleacher seat above him. I reached over and quickly ruflled his hair. "Great game man. You were on fire." "Yeah..nice way to spend a Saturday." "I wish I was good enough to play on the team. It's disheartening watching you out there without your pally." "You've got your tennis man. You get to serve it up at Tuesday's meet." "Are you coming to it, Trev?" "Sure. Wouldn't miss it." he said, his eyes locking mine. "Shit, gotta go back to the lockers. I'll be over when I get cleaned up." "Talk to you then man." He walked over to the locker complex in the building on the field's edge in his usual swagger, calm and cool. When I talked to him, and spent time with him, our eyes always locked over something, and we'd just look at one another for a long while. This didn't mean he was gay too, did it? Could he have interpreted it as a staring contest? But why would anybody do that? I picked myself up and strolled back to the dorms, stopping at the water fountain in the middle of the commons. As I drank, someone slammed into me and knocked me down. "What the hell?" I yelled. "Hah, Evan, got you back for this morning man." My roommate Jacoby, laughed as he picked himself up and grabbed my hand and helped me up. Jacoby was a hell of a clown. It was a treat living with him. He was also well equipped with not only a sense of humor, but a quite a body too. He was a 5'9" basketball player, with skin with just the slightest tan, and brown eyes that could do anything. "Real funny." I said, brushing the grass off my clothes. "Ain't it just. Evan, Jack invited me to his cabin tonight with his family, so you've got the dorm to yourself." The school had an open campus, but with curfews. You could leave campus overnight on the weekends if your parents were willing to sign a form. Lots of red tape. "Damn cool. What time are you leaving?" "In a couple minutes. Hey, I gotta get going, so I'll see you tommorow." I said goodbye and continued back through the winding pathways to my end of the dorm building, and climbed the stairs back to my room. It was a great place, decorated in Cape Cod fashion, with hardwood floors, striped wallpaper and wainscoting. The window caught all the best breezes, and looked out over the playing fields. I laid out on the bed and watched the ocean in the distance through the window. I noticed that Jacoby's backpack was gone from the room, and knew he had left for the weekend. I stood up and pushed his bunk up, revealing a hollow slot in the leg connector between his and my bed. I reached in a pulled out one of my only refuges- a gay porn magazine. Every time I pulled this out, I figured I better forget ever being straight, and that looking at it was stooping to what God had made me become; but maybe it was time to stoop to it. I flipped through the worn pages, marveling over the men that graced the pages. By this time, I had removed my shirt and ran my hand down my smooth chest, and slipping my fingers just under the crown of my shorts. I bit my lip and ran my hand farther into my shorts, but suddenly, there was a banging on the door. It scared the hell out of me and I sat up, hitting my head on the bed above. I rolled out of bed and picked myself up, throwing the magazine far under the bed in the process. I slipped my shirt back on and slid to the door, throwing it open just in time to have Trev tackle me. "That's the second time I've been knocked over today." I said, helping Trevor up. "Well I ran into Jacoby as he was leaving, and he told me that his earlier tackle wasn't good enough for your little prank this morning. I gotta say though, your shutting off the hot water to the shower is a great plan." He walked over and took a seat at my desk, picking up a tennis ball that was lying there and bouncing it on the floor. "Evan, since both our mates are gone, do you want to spend the night in my dorm tonight?" 'Let me think about this one for a second.' I thought scarcastically. "Hell yeah man." "Great. We could go out to eat at Meyler's, or just hang around here." "Well, whatever happens." He stopped bouncing the ball, and set it back on the table, but it rolled back off and down the floor, where it rolled under the bed. "Shit, I'm glad the building leans to the north. A nice south wind would knock us right over. Hold on, I'll get that for you." "No, I'll grab it later." "Oh it's no problem, I see it." He bent over and his pants stressed tight. At the moment though, I had more important things to worry about than his ass. I hoped that magazine flew really far behind the bed. "I....." He paused, and stammered for a second. My stomach turned over and I wiped the sweat from my forehead. "I...got it." He said, as he appeared with the ball. "Good.." I stuttered. "Find anything else down there?" He sat up on my bed, brushed off his knees, and looked straight at me. "Not a thing." What do you think? Should I continue? eastcoastkid_11@hotmail.com
