Love Me
Chapter 26 –
Part 1
About the
Future
Riley and
Ryan are out on a date, and Caden and Jared are going to be doing some planning
and discussing the future. They want to
talk about plans for them and Riley and Ryan.
There are several areas that they want to discuss. They leave time for much to be talked about
between the two guys. Riley's future is
important to both Caden and Jared.
***
The two
adults sit at the dining-room table with pens and paper in front of them. They have several things that they want to
talk about, and they really want to hit on them. Among the things that they want to discuss,
and they are "Do they want kids?", "Marriage or do they want to get
married?". They also want to hit on
Riley's time with them, "How to handle the time that Ryan will
be in college," "Possible break up," and proposal and marriage between the boys." By having the items discussed, they hope to
have a smoother time when those items pop up.
If they don't get to their own topics and plans, they can hit on Riley's
life and goals. Nothing is more important to them than Caden's brother. Caden and Jared are going to discuss the
first item on the list.
***
As they sit
at the table, the guys want to talk about, and that is kids.
"Caden, you
want kids, right?"
Jared asks
his boyfriend if he wants kids to see if there is a point in continuing the
conversation. Jared knows that he wants
kids. He would love to have kids of
their own.
"Jared, I
want kids. I have always wanted kids."
Caden tells
Jared. They both want kids, but the question
is whether they adopt or go the surrogate route. Caden would love to have kids that are their
kids.
"Do we want
to adopt?"
Jared asks
Caden a big question. He's been
struggling a bit with it, and he's also been considering another option. Adoption can be tricky depending on the
agency that you go through.
"If we
adopt, I want to adopt younger kids. The
youngest kids we can, and then we can adopt an older kid. I wouldn't mind fostering and then adopting."
Caden didn't
give any ages in his answer; however, he gave another opition
regarding kids. Jared wouldn't mind
fostering. They know that fostering and
adopting kids is essential. Jared feels that
after getting married, he'll ask Caden about adopting Riley and making it
official at some point. He already feels
like a step-dad. Caden hasn't heard
what Jared wants, so he asks.
"I would love
to try for our own kids. I don't want to
wait forever because I want to enjoy being a dad. I already know what it means to be a dad, but
let me go on record and say that I wouldn't reject any kid of any age."
Jared
answers his babe's question. Caden
didn't think of surrogacy exactly. The only
reason he didn't consider it; was the lack of friends to carry the
embryos. Neither guy knows where they
would turn for surrogacy. They also
aren't sure where to turn for that service or what to do about the money to
accomplish that goal.
"Let's make
it a goal to start this journey next year."
Jared says
as he looks Caden in the eyes. They are
filled with the same intensity as when he asked his lover to be his boyfriend.
"I can live
with that!"
Caden tells
his boyfriend, who smiles brightly at the answer. They move on from this topic. They don't want to wait too long to have kids
because they want to be able to play with their kids.
***
Next, they
want to decide what they'll need for Riley's care. Caden and Jared know that Riley will need
some kind of aid all his life., but they don't know precisely what form of help
he'll need. Right now, he gets
educational support, physical therapy, speech, and occupational therapy. Caden has him in counseling as well. The biggest hurdle the young man will face is
if and when Ryan decides to make Riley his husband. Ryan needs to understand that his boyfriend,
or whatever title he bestows upon Caden's little brother, is Riley needs
continued assistance.
***
Another
thing they want to discuss is the prospect of their marriage, which seems silly
to discuss such a thing since no one has proposed. Still, they are going to talk about it.
"Babe, do
you want to get married, and I want to stress that this isn't a proposal?"
Caden
doesn't want to waste anyone's time.
Jared and Caden both want to get married. The question really is who is going to
propose to whom. Neither of them has a
ring yet, so it won't be either Caden or Jared to9 propose yet.
"You know, I
want to get married to you."
Jared tells
Caden with a smile on his face. He does
want to marry his boyfriend.
"I know you
want to get married. It's too bad; we
can't start planning our wedding now."
Caden
responds to his boyfriend's statement.
Jared would love to sit down and get things planned as well. He would love to get ideas for the big
day. Their wedding is going to be huge
when it happens. Not sure who will be in
the wedding party, but they have time to plan things out. They can make plans for the big day at a
later date. For now, it's enough that
they both know that they will be getting married. Big smiles break out on their faces.
***
The next
topic worries Caden more so than all the others. Somehow the issue of Riley and Ryan marrying
is always a hard one. Maybe, it's the
idea of Riley being cared for by someone else, but Caden knows he has to let
him grow up.
"Do you
think that Ryan will ever propose to my brother?"
Caden says
as he thinks about his brother. Jared
sees himself in Ryan. He knows Riley's
boyfriend will make good on any promises he makes. Why because Ryan, despite everything going on
he, really does love Riley.
"Babe, I
would bet any amount of money that Ryan will propose to Riley. I don't know when he'll do it, but I know
he'll do good by Riley."
Jared's
words speak volumes to Caden. In fact,
as Caden thinks about it, he can see that love burning in Ryan's eyes. He worries that things may turn and that
Riley will be hurt.
"I don't
want my brother hurt."
Caden trusts
Jared and wants to trust Ryan, but the freedom of college will quickly be upon
Ryan, and distance will be between the two teens, which could pose a big
problem. Despite his worries, Caden has
to put his issues aside and believe in Ryan and Riley.
"I know,
Caden. I know."
Jared says
as he hugs his man. Jared gets a text
from his mom saying that she is on her way over for lunch.
***
She arrives
at the house in about 10 minutes. She
knocks and is greeted by Caden.
"Come on in,
Lisa, we are sitting in the dining room, but I'll get Jared to sit in the
living room. Please have a seat."
Lisa sits
down as Caden leaves the room and goes to get Jared. Caden and Jared join Lisa in the living room.
"How are you
guys doing?"
Lisa asks
them, hoping that everyone is good.
"We have
been talking and planning for the future."
Caden tells
her as Jared gathers his thoughts. He
wants to ensure his thoughts align perfectly with what they discussed together.
"We
discussed several topics that we discussed and planned. The first thing we discussed was kids. We agreed that we want kids."
Lisa
interrupts her son for a second.
"You really
want kids?"
Caden and
Jared smile and nod. Lisa is giddy.
"We also
decided that without a doubt we're getting married. No one has proposed yet, but it's something
we've decided today. We're not sure what
to do with Riley's therapies and medical needs, but we have to give him the
best care in the world. We must ensure
that Ryan knows how important this support is for Riley."
Again, Lisa
interrupts them.
"I promise
you Ryan already knows how important those things are to my grandson. Don't sweat it."
She is right;
Ryan does know. It's a fact that the handsome
jock loves and cherishes Riley, and he wants what is best for Riley.
"We also
discussed the question that was burning in my mind, will Ryan and Riley get
married? We agreed that those boys have
a deep love and that someday, they will get married."
Caden tells
Lisa, who is smiling at Caden's last sentence.
She knows that the guys are right.
Stomaches are starting to rumble, which means
that it's lunchtime.
***
Caden and
Jared prepare grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup for lunch. Nothing fancy but simple and yummy; the food
is filling and comforting.
"I think you
and Jared are on the right track with Riley and Ryan."
The guys aren't
sure what she means by these words. Lisa
continues speaking.
"On the
other hand, you won't be around forever, so you need to trust Ryan and let
Riley make mistakes."
They
understand that they need to trust Riley's boyfriend.
"Mom, we
allow Riley to make mistakes, and we expect him to learn from those mistakes."
Jared says
to his mother. She knows that they let
him choose his own path. The problem is,
they need to remember not to put too many limits on him. Yes, there are things he can't do and will
never be able to do, but putting limits on him may keep him from growing.
"Ryan loves
him, and he might just be the push Riley needs to keep pushing forward. You're doing a fantastic job with him."
Lisa tells
them both as she looks into Caden's eyes.
Sometimes, you need to be reminded of your path. Caden and Jared certainly aren't immune to
losing sight of it.
***
The hardest
part of Riley's and Ryan's relationship is quickly coming. Caden and Jared know that it's going to be
hard on Riley. Sure, the boys don't
spend every hour of the day together., but Ryan going away for college will
test the boys and Caden and Jared. They
will be the ones to comfort Riley and reassure him that things will be okay.
"Do the two
of you realize that Ryan starts college in three, maybe four months.?"
Jared says
as he looks at his calendar.
"Don't
remind me, Jared."
Caden says
as he rolls his eyes. Lisa has no wisdom
to share. The next four years will
stink. All she can do is sit back and be
there. Riley may need his family to be
there to remind him that Ryan will be back.
"You know it
may not be so bad. Ryan will have his
phone and be home during breaks, right?"
Lisa says trying
to encourage her son and his boyfriend.
It may not be so bad.
"I guess you're
right. Things will be different, but we'll
survive."
Lisa nods
her head to what Caden just said. Jared
smiles at his babe. Riley will struggle,
but he's struggled before. He'll have
his friends and family ready to hold him up whenever he needs them.
"I'm always right."
Lisa says as
Jared chuckles. Caden ignores Jared's
laugh. They all hope that Caden is
right. When they're done eating, the
conversation dies as Caden and Jared clean up lunch.
***
Lisa says
her goodbyes and heads out for home, which leaves Caden and Jared to wonder
what happens when Riley goes home to be with Ryan.
"No one
mentioned what happens when Riley moves out of the house."
Caden's face
says it all. He looks a little sad as he
pictures that day in his head. Riley and
Ryan will be married. In the end, Ryan
will take Riley as his husband. Caden
knows his brother and his brother-in-law will be happy together. Jared can see Caden is off somewhere, lost in
his thoughts.
"I don't
know where you went, but I assume you were thinking about your brother and
Ryan?"
Jared asks
his boyfriend. He knows Caden all too
well.
"Guilty as
charged."
Caden tells
his boyfriend, who laughs. It's about to
get real. One of these guys is about to
put the issue at hand to rest. Pretty sure
it's been said before, but it's about to be repeated. Jared's heart cannot contain it anymore; he
has to say it.
"You make
this harder than it needs to be. Like it
or not, Riley and any care he needs will be up to Ryan, but we can be there to
love and support the two of them."
Jared makes
it sound like once Ryan and Riley marry, Riley suddenly becomes Ryan's
problem. It's not what Jared meant. No one will be happier than Caden when the
time comes for Riley to wed his love.
Caden kisses his man.
"You're
right, Babe."
Jared loves
his baby. Caden loves Riley and Jared
more than anything in the world.
