I couldn't get my mind off what Dale had suggested, it just kept playing through my mind over and over and over. "Chase," I heard Coach Ryan call my name. "Yeah, Coach," I yelled back. "Whatever girl is occupying your time, you better get it out of your mind if your gonna be ready for the meet on Friday." If only he knew that it wasn't a girl, I bet he would shit a brick. I was lacing up my shoes when I felt a hand touch me on the shoulder. I turned around to see Dale standing behind me with a big grin on his face. Part of me kept saying go with him, but another part of me an even louder part kept saying, you are not gay, and what he is suggesting is gay anyway you spell it. "Did you give any thought to what I asked you earlier?" he asked. "Yeah," I said, "My brother is gonna pick me up at five, so I probably won't have time today, but maybe some other time." "Cool," Dale said, "I'd love to get together with your brother. He is one hot number." I laughed, "You'ld have to fight off all the girls, and I don't think you would stand a chance, since he is really into the chicks." "So he has a girlfriend," Dale asked. I hadn't really thought about it, but come to think about it, he didn't. I would have to ask him about it. (MICHAEL) I rolled over and looked into the most beautiful eyes I had ever beheld. I traced my tounge over the cute button nose, as I watched his breath form and dispate. I rolled back over and glanced at the alarm clock on the nightstand. Oh shit! I yelled when I noticed what time it was. Quarter after five, damn Chase was gonna be pissed. I jumped out of bed as quick as I could, through my clothes on as quick as I could, jotted down a quick note and ran out the door as fast as I could. I turned the corner towards the swimming complex and saw the limo waiting. As soon as I opened the door, Chase started in on me. "Where the fuck have you been," he said. "Visiting a friend," I said, "and I really don't think you need to be using that kind of language." "What kind of fucking language are you fucking talking about," he replied. "and who the hell were you out fucking with. Did she have big tits?" I grabbed his shirt and pulled him closer towards me, "You better watch your fucking mouth," I said, "or I'm gonna knock you on your ass." "Man," he said, "I was only joking, get over it." The rest of the ride to the house was in complete silence. Myles had turned up the music, the new Uncle Cracker song was blaring through the speakers. I knew that Myles really didn't like our kind of music, but he always played it for us. As we turned the last corner towards the house, Chase saw it first. "Well, well," he said, "it looks like mom and dad are home. Are you ready to put on our happy to see you son's faces." He smiled and I couldn't help but laugh. (CHASE) Know don't get me wrong, I love both my parents, and I'm sure their doing the best to raise us in the only way they know how. Look I have everything I could ever want, all the latest electronics, computer games, a brand new car when I'm old enough to drive. You think about it, I've probably already have it, and if I don't I'll get it be tommorrow. I figure you're thinking then what the hell do I have to be ungrateful for. I would gladly trade my six thousand dollar stereo system for one hug and kiss from either one of my parents. I can't remember a time in my life, when my parents once ever said the words "I love you, son." Michael and me walked into the parlor, where they were both seated, sipping on four hundred dollar brandy. My father was sitting on the chair to the right of the fireplace , well my mother was seated to the left of the fireplace. Michael quietly closed the door behind him, as we approached them. "Hello, mother, Hello, father," Michael said, as we took our places around the fireplace. We all had a certain spot we sat, and certain rules when we were in the parlor. "Hello, Michael, Hello, Chase," both our parents replied, simotaniously. I was about to stand up and excuse myself, when my father spoke up. "Sit down, boys," he said, "we have a few things we need to discuss." He took a sip of his brandy. "Me and your mother have been talking, and trust me the decision we have come to wasn't an easy one, but one we both feel is in our best interests. The only reason we are telling you this information, is because in a round about way it will also effect you. Michael do you have any plans for this Friday?" Michael shook his head no. "Good," My father said, "and you Chase?" "Friday's the district swim meet," I said. He rubbed his hands together and calmly said, "I'm sorry Chase, you are gonna have to change your plans. We need the whole family to be together on Friday night." To say I came unglued would be a tremendous understatement. I shot up out of my chair, I could feel the blood rising to my face and let loose with all the fustrations I had been holding inside. "What the fuck," I screamed, "I"m not gonna miss the swim meet, if I miss it then I won't qualify for the regional swim meet and then state. Hell coach says I have a good shot at going to nationals. You come into my life maybe a total of a whole month in thirteen years, and all of a sudden I'm suppose to act like I give a shit about you? Well I'm hear to tell you that I don't give a flying rats ass about your money, your prestige, or any appearances you need to keep up. You can take all the fucking crap you've given me, cause that's all it is to me, is a bunch of crap..." by this time I could no longer control the tears that were falling down my face, "...and shove it straight up your billion dollar ass. All me and Michael have ever wanted is for you to love us, play catch with us, take us camping, hug and kiss us once in awhile, ask how are day at school was...the things that most our kids take for granted." All three of them were sitting in silence, stunned at my reactions. I think they were waiting for an apology, but tough shit, they weren't gonna get one. I had said what I felt I had to say and even though it hurt to say it, I wasn't gonna take back what I believed to be true. I watched my father stand up and walk over to the bar. He grabbed two brandy sifters, poured two fingers in each one, walked back over to where me and Michael were and handed us each one. "Sit down boy's," he said, "I think it's time you heard the story of a young boy from Texas."
