Chapter One "Seasons Change" It was a usual Monday morning in the small New England town of Windsbough. The cool morning air created a calm and peaceful mood for many of the citizens. This town has a population of about five hundred, which is only a few miles from the heavily populated city of Boston. Nothing really happens in this quiet little community. Nothing until Samuel York wakes from his slumber. He brushes the sand from his eyes while trying to remember that he is no longer in a dreamscape. Slowly, he turned his head towards the now very loud alarm clock. Fiercily, he knocked with his hand dreading the reminder of school. His weekend was the best, because he spent time with his best friends Randall and Jessica. Ever since kindergarten they have been labeled as the three musketeers. Even now in their junior year of high school, they still remain the closest of friends. They possess an understanding for one another and simply grew to love each other something awful. Very rarely can you find such a close bond with a group of friends like Samuel, Randall, and Jessica. "Well, I might as well get ready or I'll never want to go to that hellhole", said Samuel. He slowly but surely got out of bed making a beeline for the bathroom. After he relieves his bladder, the next step was to brush his teeth. As he looked in the mirror, something seemed different about himself. The same dark hair, green eyes, skinny but toned frame. But it was not on the level of appearance, it was more on the level of maturity. He realized that in these times, the world must come together as one. Also, he realized that if he did not hurry up in the bathroom, his friends would walk to school without him. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About thirty minutes later, Samuel is in the kitchen finishing the last few particles of his healthy bowl of Fruity Peebles. His mother approaches him with a wry grin on her face. "Is my son eating heatlhy again?", said his mom. "Yes, it had many varieties of fruits. Like umm....Grapes, cherries, and lemons", said the smartass Samuel. "So you like lemons with your bowl of cherries too huh?", smiled his mom. "You know it!", said Samuel. As they both giggled from their usual daily jokes, the doorbell rang. Samuel quickly ran to the door opening it revealing the one and only Jessica. "Like Hi! Are you like...hehe...I couldn't resist mocking that girl at the mall Saturday", said Jessica. "Hehe...even in the morning you are so alive. Come in my mom the comediane is in the kitchen eating her bowl of artificial cherries and lemons", said Samuel. They both smiled and entered the kitchen. "Oh hi dear, what brings you here so early?", said Mrs.York. "I live here and.." said Samuel. "Not you silly. I meant Jess.", said Ms. York. "Hehe, you know same old same old Miss Y", said Jessica. "Well, that I hope means good. Is Samuel's boyfriend walking with you guys this morning?", said Mrs.York. "HA...ha...mother, funny. So funny I forgot to laugh like it was.", said Samuel. "Just a joke hunny. I better go to work now or I'll be like totally late.", said Mrs. York. "Bye mom don't work too hard.", said Samuel. "Now dear, do I ever?", said Mrs York. They both looked at each other making Jessica wonder what's up. Then at the same time they say "No!". After that, Mrs. York made her way to the car and left for work. "Your mom is soo kewl", said Jessica. "Yeah, so youthful I might add", said Samuel. They both looked at each other and started giggling when someone was pounding at the door like a madman. Quickly, Samuel and Jessica run to the door to see what it was all about. When the door opened, a tall blonde boy runs like water from a faucet straight for the kitchen. As Sam and Jess collected themeselves they notice the Peterson's british bulldog heading for the door. Without a word Sam slammed the door in the dog's path. A few seconds later you can hear the dog make a screeching sound, almost like a song bird. "Randy, you always know how to make an entrance in the morning don't ya?", said Jessica. Still catching his breath, Randy approaches her and says,"That dog should have it's head shrunk". "Haha, it still wouldn't stop him from chasing you", said Samuel. Slowly, Randy walked over to Samuel with a blank expression on his face. "What? What's the matter?", said Samuel. Randy just got closer and closer until their noses touched. Fear washed over Samuel, because he wondered what has gotten into his friend Randy. "Is that how you say good morning to your man?", said Randy. Shocked registered over Samuel's body. "YOUR WHAT?!", said Samuel. Randy couldn't resist the look on Sam's face and neither could Jessica was about to explode with laughter. "Ugh, you guys are gunna give me gray hair before I'm eighteen." said Samuel. "Well as much as I love to fuck with your mind some more, we better get to school.", said Randy. "Hehe, Samuel, you are so funny when you get nervous.", said Jessica. "Well, I can't be messed with in the morning. You know how my mind works.", said Samuel. Laughing Randy said," No we don't." Samuel stuck his tongue out at him while grabbing his bookbag. Jessica exits the house first, while Randy waits on Samuel. He noticed Randy staring at him with concern and worry. "You know I was joking right? I didn't mean anything by...." said Randy. "I know it was a joke. Why did you ask? Do you like me more than what you say?", said Samuel. The expression on Randy's face became unreadable; but Samuel feels as if this day would not be like any other. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well that's the end of the first chapter of "The Many Faces Of Samuel".
