Scott had reserved the dining alcove and ordered a huge turkey early in anticipation of having the two families together. He and Ben were picking up the tab in an attempt to thank Sophia for the lovely reception she'd thrown for all of them. It was still several days away, but Scott wanted to make sure everything came off perfectly. He was thankful that Randall Chadick was no longer around to put a damper on the day with some arrogant comment. Of course, the man might be less inclined to say anything even if he hadn't been booted. His pampered son, James, had recently been picked up on a charge of "possession with intent to deliver" after being caught with more than a pound of marijuana in his backpack at school. ---------- An unusual thing happened on Tuesday night. The land line phone rang at the Larson-Brady home. At this point in time, most people called the guys on their individual mobile units unless it was one of Scott's clients. Scott noted that the number was from the area code where his ex wife lived, so he wrote it down hastily before answering. "Hello, this is Scott." "I'm calling for Eric Larson," an unfamiliar female voice said. "I am his father. May I ask who this is and the nature of the call?" "My name is Doris Lyons and I'm a nurse at Hospice in Des Plaines, Illinois. Eric's mother is here because she isn't expected to live much longer. It is her desire to see her son one more time before she dies." "Just a minute, I'll see if he's in the house," Scott said as he pushed the mute button. "Ben, could you call up the speaking tube to Eric and could you also get on the computer and check to see what the telephone number is for Hospice in Des Plaines, Illinois? I have a strange feeling that this number isn't one of them and that something is not right here." Ben called Eric to come down and brought his laptop into the den where Scott and he had been watching TV. He found that the number Scott had scribbled on a pad wasn't remotely like the several listed for the medical care facility. Scott picked up the receiver to tell the "nurse" that Eric was on the way. Then he muted the phone again before having Eric pick up another handset. He quickly told Eric what was going on and showed him the phone number to see if he recognized it. "Dad, I think it's the number of one of the bars where Mom used to take clients. I can't say for sure, but it looks familiar. I had to call her there twice when Grandma had medical emergencies." "Okay, you talk to this lady and try to engage her for a few minutes. See what you can find out. I think it's a scam." "Hello, this is Eric." "Oh, I'm pleased your father didn't try to keep you from talking to me. I have very sad news. You mother has stage four ovarian cancer and doesn't have long to live. I hate breaking this to you by phone, but it's the only thing I can do." "How advanced is it, and how long has she known about it?" "She was diagnosed in June and went downhill rapidly." "Why wasn't I notified then? Has she been hospitalized long?" "Yes, she went into the hospital the first part of August and hasn't been out since. She was transferred to Hospice in September." "Hmm, I don't understand how that could be. Her neighbor, Alma, said she was fine in September when I talked to her." "I'm sure she must have been mistaken. They don't have much contact." "Okay, if this is all true, what do you think I should do?" "I feel it's only right for you to pay her a visit over Thanksgiving when you're out of school. She would like you to come alone because she doesn't want to see your father again." While the conversation was going on, Scott used his cell phone to try a couple of numbers one digit different from the one Doris was calling on. He figured if it would be a place of business, it would have more than one line coming into it and would likely have several numbers in a row. On his second attempt, he hit paydirt. "Safari Lounge, this is Joe. How may I help you?" "Can you tell me is Tina Romano is there this evening?" "Yeah, I see her at the other end of the bar. Do you want to talk to her?" "In a minute, but first could you tell me if she's with her friend, Doris?" "She's with a lady and I think that's her name." "By chance is the lady using one of your phones?" "Yeah, how did you know? Are you in here looking at them?" "No, I'm in St. Paul and it was just a lucky guess. I'd like to talk to Mrs. Romano now, please." Scott signaled to Eric who interrupted his conversation with the supposed nurse. Then he handed his mobile to Eric just as Tina answered. "Thish ish Tina," she said. "Hello, hello..." Eric turned the two phones so that the speaker of one was by the earpiece of the other. Doris and Tina ended up hearing each other on them as well as live in the bar. "Nice try, Mother." He said as he put the cell phone to his ear. "You'll have to do better than that to get me away from my dad and my husband. You probably thought you'd be able to keep me in Illinois if I came back. I wish you best of luck during your last few weeks on earth." "Wait! I want to talk to you. What did you shay about a hushband? Who has a hushband?" "Sorry, there's a no contact order and you've violated it. I must tell you that this whole conversation has been recorded. You may expect a letter from my lawyer. Goodbye." "Good thinking Dad," Eric exclaimed after putting down the receiver. I can't believe that woman would stoop so low." "She's your mother. It's probably not right to refer to her as `that woman'." "I don't care. I've ceased thinking of her as a parent. Why can't she just leave me alone?" Josh, who had entered the room in time to hear part of the conversation, took Eric into his arms and kissed him. "I don't blame you for feeling alienated from her," Ben spoke up. "As your lawyer, I'd advise you not to mention about having a husband if she tries to talk to you again. It will give her one more bit of ammunition in her attempt to get you back." "I guess it was rash of me. Oh well, I can't take it back. Let's hope she was too drunk to have it register." The phone rang again and Ben picked it up this time. It was a number from the same area, but not the same number. "This is Ben speaking." "You know who thish is," Tina slurred. "Whas my son talking about a hushband?" "He must have been talking about his father and me," Ben said thinking quickly. "We are husbands because we got married in August." "You're dishgusting, deshpicable. You're shetting a terrible example! You're unfit to be parents!" "You're drunk, Tina. What kind of example are you setting? How fit is an alcoholic for parenting?" "Fuck you! My lawyer shez the judge played it loosh and free when he gave Scott cushtody. I should have been there. I'm gonna write and tell him you guysh are queer." "Scott's orientation was discussed at the time the judge made the ruling. If you want to spend your money trying to overturn it, be my guest. Eric is old enough to choose whom he wants for his guardian, so it's a moot point. On top of that, I can easily keep this tied up until Eric reaches 18. Once again, I must remind you that you are in violation of a court order by calling us. And Eric wasn't kidding about recording your conversations. There's a convenient button on our answering machine for that purpose. We will not answer any calls from your area code from now on." With that statement, Ben disconnected. "Are you okay, Babe?" Josh asked Eric. "Yeah, I'm fine. It's kind of strange not to have any feeling about her at all. I guess I've grown a thick enough callus so she can't get to me. I guess I'm just insensitive." "I don't think you're insensitive at all. You are a sweet, loving guy. You have to block some people out in order to remain sane." "I suppose. It's like she doesn't exist in my world." "Come on; let's drown your sorrows in a big bowl of popcorn. You can work off the calories in the swimming pool." "I'm hoping to work off a few upstairs pretty soon," Eric smirked. "Too much information!" Scott and Ben said in chorus. ---------- For Thanksgiving, Sam Hikiji had to go with his family to Chicago to visit his grandparents and other relatives. He hated being away from Aaron for most of the break, but was excited about seeing his cousin who had taught him to jack off when they were younger. Drew was the relative he felt closest to and the one who was always eager to push the boundaries a bit. Sam told Aaron that he might be messing around with Drew and said Aaron should feel free to play with someone if he liked. Aaron thought it might be fun to try it with someone else too. Since Garret would also be out of town, perhaps Luc would be open to a little sex play. ---------- On Tuesday, Luc was moping around the house without having his boyfriend around and quickly accepted Aaron's invitation to play video games. Luc's sisters weren't into them and his little bros were too young to be any competition. Luc was also eager to show off his new car to someone. He had driven one of the family cars since turning 16 earlier in the fall. His mother had offered to buy him a Beamer, but he'd decided it would be too ostentatious for school and had opted for a used Mustang convertible. It had taken him a bit of time to find the right one at the right price. He may have been more privileged than many in his high school, but he was a fairly practical guy as well. When Luc got to the Reid's house, Dylan was there and the three of them had a lot of fun. Dylan was at loose ends too because he didn't have a steady girlfriend and had been looking for something to do beside practice swimming strokes. Later in the afternoon, the three of them went to the pool in Luc's car. Luc enjoyed keeping up his swimming skills even though he wasn't a competitor. When he dropped the brothers off at their home afterwards, they told him to come back again anytime. Luc's disposition was much improved after spending time out of the house and getting exercise. ---------- Eric and Josh spent the early part of the week working in their apartment. They got the rest of it painted in good time because the trim was still the original varnished wood and didn't need anything but to be masked off after a thorough cleaning. The boys also cleaned and waxed the wood floors until they too looked like new. Josh's work in design class paid off in his sense of what colors and shapes worked well together. Fortunately, Eric had similar tastes and was willing to defer to Josh's judgment when he wasn't sure about something. They went out and purchased area rugs to coordinate with the futon and recliner that they'd already bought. The place was beginning to look like a tasteful apartment. ---------- The day before Thanksgiving, Aaron again invited Luc over to his house. This time Dylan wasn't home. In fact, Aaron and Luc were the only ones in the house. Luc began to feel a bit uneasy about the situation when Aaron sat close to him on the bed as they played. His nervousness caused him to lose in a game that he would ordinarily have won easily. After a bit, Aaron switched the game off and linked to a porn site. Luc knew it was dangerous to watch stuff like that without having Garret beside him, but he couldn't tear his eyes away from the hunks on the screen and the activities they were doing. His cock expanded uncomfortably in his jeans and he needed to adjust to keep from having his balls ache. Aaron didn't miss Luc's rearranging and suggested that they shuck their pants in the name of comfort. Luc had serious reservations. "I'd better go," he said. "Nah, you don't need to. Aren't you even curious to see someone else's hard dick? Sam says we should check out other guys so we know what we're getting. I've never seen you hard and you've never seen me. It's not cheating. Besides, Sam is going to be learning new stuff from his cousin to make our sex hotter." "Uh, Garret and I don't have that kind of relationship." "Ooh, look at that guy cum! Wow, it's like a fountain of cream. Wouldn't you like to taste it?" "Damn, it is hot!" Luc conceded. Aaron took his throbbing cock out and stroked it slightly. He was close, but didn't want to shoot yet. Luc couldn't force himself not to look. "Come on, let me see yours," Aaron implored. Instead of answering verbally, Luc pulled his shirt up and his jeans and underwear down to his knees freeing his aching boner which bounced in its freedom. Aaron was impressed with the size and the presence of a foreskin. "Damn, that's a fine piece of meat," he said as he reached over and stroked it. Luc's brain was trying to tell him to get the hell out of there, but it was being overruled by the feeling in his cock. With a gasp, his first shot hit his face. Successive volleys landed on his chest and abs as well as covering Aaron's right hand. Aaron licked the nectar off grinning. "Wow, you produced as much as the guy in the porn vid!" "I've got to go home. I've done a terrible thing. Garret won't be able to forgive me. Damn!" "Garret doesn't have to know. I won't tell him." "You'll tell Sam and Sam will tell someone and someone will tell him. Shit!" "Okay, I won't even share this with Sam." "It doesn't matter. I can't keep it from him. He trusts me. I can't lie to him." Luc grabbed Kleenex and mopped up the mess enough to pull his clothes back together before rushing from Aaron's house. He got into his car and tried to drive, but had to pull over because he couldn't see through his tears. A feeling of dread and hopelessness filled his heart. He had no idea what he was going to do. He got his crying under control and headed for the river. He parked his car and walked toward the bank. He contemplated his options. Would he be able to go quickly? He was a good swimmer; could he resist the urge to preserve his life when he started to drown? Before he could act on his impulse, Luc was startled by the sound of his cell phone. "Hey Bro, are you free to come over to dinner? Mom says you're moping around without Garret, and you have a nephew who would very much like to see you. He's walking pretty steadily now and he's learning to dance like those babies you see on YouTube." "Uh, I guess I can if it's okay with Mom." "I already cleared it with her. Come as soon as you can so we have more time to talk." "Okay, I'll be there." Luc replied. He got back into his car to head for Rob's place. He'd have to consider his options later. ---------- Author's notes: Thanks to all who emailed since last week. One of the Republican candidates for governor of our fair state promises to stop same-sex marriage by executive order if elected. The other two in the running are warning that it would lead to a law suit. I suspect they're right. I would personally donate money to prevent having our current situation reversed. I think it's a matter of civil rights that any couple should be able to wed like the characters in this story. Hope your Easter weekend was a good one. Think spring!!!
