Steven & Jason - Chapter Twenty-Eight

Jason took me to his house after a quick stop at my place to leave a note that I would be at his house. We arrived and hurried into the house as the cold winter air was really whiping up, basking in the warmth once inside. Anne was in the kitchen baking something that smelled heavenly.

"Jason, I just pulled out some almond chocolate chip cookies, don't spoil your dinner..." she said as she came around the corner and saw me with him, "Well, I guess you won't spoil your dinner if Steven is here to eat a few as well."

Anne embraced me warmly then invited us to have a seat at the table where she got us a glass of milk to wash down the cookies. Jason started in because I told him I would bring him up to speed when we got to his house.

"So what happened? What did that bitch have to say for herself?" Jason asked with a mouthful of cookie.

"Jason, watch your language!" Anne admonished from the kitchen.

"Sorry, it just what this teacher did to Steven today."

Anne sat down across from Jason, "Okay, girl talk. Go!"

I just looked at Anne and rolled my eyes at her comment. I spent the next half hour telling the story of what happened including the first part to bring Anne up to speed. By the time I was finished, the cookies were gone, our glasses had been refilled and Anne sat back with her mouth open.

"What a cunt! Oh how I wish I would have been there to smack her when she made that comment." Anne said nastily.

"Mom, watch your mouth!" Jason snickered.

Anne slapped him on the back of his head and looked over at me again, "I am so sorry that happened. Is there anything I can do?"

"Not that I can think of but I'll let you know. If there is any hearing being planned, you'll be informed as that bitch with a capital 'C' dragged Jason into it by mentioning him."

"Ok, well you guys go brave the cold for a bit while Jason does his chores and you take it easy and just collect the eggs. Give you suys something to do to work off your snack." Anne said as she motioned us outside.

Jason and I made quick work of the chores and ran back inside. I dropped off the eggs on the kitchen counter and we bee-lined it to Jason's room, closing the door behind us. Jason pushed me onto the bed and slowly eased himself down onto part of my body as I wrapped my arms around him and he nuzzled his face into the crick of my neck and shoulder.

We laid there for a solid 30 minutes, not moving much except to plant small kisses on each other. We just wanted to hold the other person and be there for each other. I held Jason tightly as my own fears wore me down. It wasn't for what had happened earlier but that I felt like everything was becoming like a roller coaster that feels like it never ends and starts making you sick. The incident with Nick and Jesse followed by the shooting and now with Ms. Rocco I just wanted things to settle down so I could feel relaxed and truly free with Jason. I don't know if I can handle more hurdles in my life.

There was a soft knock on the door, "Are you boys decent?" John asked.

"Yeah, come in dad." Jason answered.

John walked in and sat on the bed next to us. "Hell of a day huh?"

I just nodded.

"Your mom called a few minutes ago. She would like for you to come home. Jason can take you home or to the school to get your truck, whichever you want." John mentioned softly.

"What time is it?" I asked.

John looked at his watch and replied, "It's a little after five. She left work early, says your dad is still at the school with district staff."

"Okay," I sat up with Jason coming up with me keeping an arm draped around my back. "If Jason can take me home perhaps he can wake up a little earlier tomorrow and pick me up for school?" I gave him a pleading look.

"And miss out on 15 minutes of beauty sleep?" he responded as he backed away from me.

"In that case perhaps he better just stay home tomorrow and sleep all day. It won't help but we should try everything to keep him looking presentable in public." John laughed.

Jason hit his dad in the arm and started wrestling with him. I took the time to genuinely smile and laugh, something I had was happy to feel sweep across me. They stopped and Jason stood up to grab his keys off his nightstand.

"You wanna go find a salon to clean you up then go to the makeup store and find some things to keep your pretty facade up?" I joked.

I would wrestle with you but I don't want to injure you. So instead I will just not give you a goodbye kiss later.

"Aww, now that sucks but you are hurting yourself on that one too." I reminded him.

"Shit. Well, I'll think of something fitting." Jason said ushering me down the hall.

He drove in silence to my house and pulled into the driveway leaving the truck on so the heater would keep us warm. I leaned over to kiss him but he looked away. I just laid my head on his shoulder and grabbed his hand to squeeze.

"You know I was just joking about the salon, makeup and stuff right?" I whispered.

Jason leaned his head against mine. "I know. I'm just reflecting on the day as a whole. I want to say something but the words won't come out."

"Just say it and we will work on the meaning and intent afterwards." I insisted.

"Why does everything seem to happen to you? Why do you get all the shit and come out on top in the end?"

I sat up and looked over at him as I saw a tear falling down his cheek. "Would you like to take my place in the thing today? Do you want to get shot? By all means, you can take my place." I said defensively.

"See, that is what I mean. You get like this and I didn't mean for you to react this way. It's like I don't want you to be the only one to take things on. I am your boyfriend and we are in a relationship. Relationships are 50/50 and I can take some of the heat too. I just don't want you to feel like everything happens to you and I get very little. Does that make sense?"

I could see tear after tear rolling down his cheek as he looked forward the whole time telling me his feelings. When he finished, I took my right hand and cupped his chin to turn his head to me. He resisted at first but I gently tried again. His red puffy eyes, moist cheeks and quivering lip showed off his helpless feelings and I at that moment I understood exactly what he was saying. At that moment I knew that I had a keeper for a boyfriend.

"I love you Jason. I will share as much of the burden with you that you want to take on. In our relationship, there will be a time that you have shit come down on you and I want to be there to help take some of the weight off so just remember that."

Jason nodded his head as I wiped away a tear with my thumb. He leaned towards me and pressed his lips to mine as we kissed deeply and passionately. Lost in the moment of love and understanding we continued to embrace and make out with no regard for anything peripheral. So when my dad tapped on the window, startling us, I remembered where we were. I looked back at Jason, "Are you picking me up tomorrow?"

"I'll be here with a smile and bells on. What time?"

"Let me call you later and give you a time." I replied.

We kissed briefly again before I got out and went inside. Jason watched me to the door then drove away.

Conversations that night over dinner and afterwards had left everyone exhausted. All anyone knew about what would happen next would be found out tomorrow when the attorney for the school district, the Head of the Teacher's Union and the Superintendent were able to sit down together and discuss things. Mom, being the motherly type was going to find out everything she could at work on this bitch. We were all pretty tired around eight. Mom was going to work early to see if she could find anything on Rocco. Dad was heading out early to catch up on work he missed the last half of today so I called Jason's house.

"Hello?" Anne answered.

"Hi Anne, is Jason available real quick?"

"Sure, just a second."

"So, what time am I picking you up?" Jason started.

"Are you able to wake up earlier and be here between a quarter after six and half past?"

"I can, why so early?"

"My parents will be out of the house by then and there is unfinished business between us."

"Okay, I'll be there."

"Don't worry about showering, you can take one here."

We said our goodbyes and goodnights and hung up with smiles on our faces eagerly awaiting the morning.
