The past summer had suffered an intense heat wave and the air was still thick and humid. Matt's hair was moist, his was back hot, as he trekked through small wooded trails that filled the grounds between St. Francis High and the pool the swim team practiced in. The sky was golden, as were the leaves, and certainly the sounds of their rustling with the birds singing was beautiful. Matt didn't hear sound of it; His iPod Nano ® was in his ears (a testament to being a spoiled upper-middle class adolescent) turned up loud. "My humps, my humps my humps my humps! My humps my humps my humps, my lovely lady lumps... Check it out!" "God, you scared me." Ryan had taken advantage of Matt's obliviousness and jumped him from behind. Ryan let off, made himself presentable and joined Matt on his trip to the pool. "Affectionate..." said Matt as he adjusted his school/swim bag and took out his earphones. The two continued walking. They walked, and they didn't talk. They looked each other over once or twice, but it was silent. It was awkward. It was an awkward silence, as they walked, but didn't talk. "Yep..." said Matt. Silence. "Yep..." Matt said again. There was no getting this boy to talk, and if a boy ain't good for conversation, there's only one thing left to do with him. Matt checked-out Ryan's body as he much-enjoyed doing. Matt definitely preferred Ryan in a Speedo to his school clothes. Beige zip-up sweater (American Eagle), green T-shirt (American Eagle), low-cut jeans (guess where from!) and Pumas. Matt loves Pumas. Who doesn't love Pumas? "Nice shoes." "Thanks." Matt supposed the silence wasn't too awkward. Ryan enjoyed it. It was something they could share. The pool drew near, and the boys walked through falling golden leaves, the sound of which was the only thing heard. The building was plain, green, brown, cemented. Matt and Ryan did not care much for what the building looked like, but it was coming to mean very much to them. "Everyone gather `round... everyone, `round hear gather, everyone now!" called Ms. Wood (swim coach). "This Sunday is our first exhibition swim meet." "Yep..." Ms. Wood cleared her throat, "I need to know what events you'll be doing, and if you could bring some fruit for deck food that would be great." "Yep..." Ms. Wood took down everyone's events, and everyone got in the water. Another do-nothing practice. Practices may have not been very intense for the swimming, but certainly they were becoming intense in other ways. Matt decided to lead the fastest lane (really just him and Ryan) in a set while once again, Ms. Wood dealt with all the aquatic retards in the other lanes. "Let's do... 10 x 100m on 1:30? Nah... 1:15? Let's make this interesting. 10 x 100m on 1:10." A challenge, sort of. One hundred after another, it was no difficulty considering Matt had well under a minute in 100 Free, but whatever, pool-time is pool-time. Matt began to pay less attention to Ryan. Matt thought Ryan was becoming more than an object of lust to Matt. Matt really just considered Ryan a friend now. Sure, they don't really talk, and they technically are no more than teammates, but Matt felt Ryan was very familiar, a growing synchronization between them. Ryan's face, his stroke, every contour of his body was deep inside of Matt's mind. The set finished and Matt was hardly out of breath. He looked behind as Ryan touched in, apparently ready to go for some more. Matt was impressed; Ryan may fare well as his adversary for the upcoming season. They'll rule the high school swimming association with an iron aquablade (swimsuit). Practice ended and everyone got out of the water. "Remember, this Sunday." Ms. Wood gave hand-outs with times and a map to the pool. "See you there." In the changeroom, once again Matt, Ryan, Danny and Tom all stood about, drying themselves. "Oh shit, where did you two come from?" Matt asked Danny and Tom. Matt had totally missed them even arriving at practice. "Uhh, we were in second lane, Matt... There the whole time, thanks." Said Tom. "Oh man, sorry I didn't like say hi or whatever. I don't really take notice--" Matt interrupted himself. People never really took kindly when he admits he doesn't care to know people slower than him (or less handsome). "To stuff that's like happening, you know?" "Yeah whatever," – Danny – "Whoa! There's a private sauna in the changeroom!" Matt looked at Ryan, `Oh yeah' he mouthed. "C'mon let's check it out!" Matt, Ryan and Danny, still suited up, picked up their towels, left their bags and walked towards the sauna. "Not coming along for any fun, Tom?" "Nah, I've gotta..." Tom cleared his throat, "Study." "You and your studying..." said Matt. "Studying..." Danny spat. "Yeah, I'll see you around." The three boys stepped into the sauna. It was hot and it was wooden, much like a sauna should be. It was small (intimate, if you will) and it smelled like a sauna (I think it was actually a sauna!). Two stories of benches lined the two opposite walls. Danny sat to the left, Matt and Ryan on the right. All three boys embraced the heat of the sauna. No one spoke as they sat on their towels, bodies glistening, their noses stinging from the apparent heat and dryness of the air. Matt scanned Danny, sitting across the closet-sized sauna. He was cute. He was a little smaller than Matt (and Ryan), a little less muscular then Matt (and Ryan) and his delicate face and thin, brown hair had strong flavours of, dare Matt comprehend... nerd? The heat of the sauna brought out a second air to Danny. Usually he was so argumentative, so quick to just `NO!'... Say something to interrupt your speech. But here, he lay his head back, closed his eyes, mouth gaping, and he was just there for some relaxation. Ryan stood up and wrapped his towel around himself. Matt and Danny both woke from their heat-induced trances. Ryan kept his towel on and untied and removed his Speedo and threw them to the corner of the sauna. Danny was speechless, Matt was ready, and Ryan sat himself back down, covered only by his towel, which lay loosely on his lap. Sigh, "Good idea!" said Matt, as he got up and did the same. Both him and Ryan sat beside one another, in nothing but their towels as the warmth consumed them. Danny sat in awe, as if it were unheard of for people to wear nothing but towels in a sauna... For shame! "C'mon! Join the party, Danny." Matt coaxed. "Uhh, how about no thanks. I'll see you two around." He got up, picked up his towel and left, still staring and Ryan and Matt. "Yep..." said Matt. `Wow, I feel like a retard today...' he thought. It was quiet again. The wood was hot, the air was dry, the boys were bare, and it was quiet once again. Matt's eyes hovered across Ryan's body. Matt was always very visual. It was never enough for Matt's hands to explore every inch of a boy's body; he had to see it. Better yet, if he could smell it. Matt's eyelids drifted downwards after visually taking in every inch of the dark-haired aquatic adonis that sat beside him. His eyes were closed and he was near certain Ryan's were too as his face drifted closer to Ryan's body. Ryan's scent was sweet, yet strong and unyielding. He smelled of shining, active sweat of an able (and I do mean able) bodied teenage boy, and chlorine. Chlorine, over years of exposure to it, smelling it, thinking about it, had become a comforting smell to Matt. It was the smell of victory, of cheering and invigoration. Ryan's essence was so empowering, Matt was compelled to feel more. More than he could see, than he could smell. He lifted his hand from beneath him and it hung in the air, merely an inch above Ryan's firm pectorals. The air in the sauna was warm, but somehow, there was a field of extreme heat, of fire and tension that just lay about Ryan's body. Matt's hand followed the field. He thought he was beginning to understand Ryan, his silent eccentricities, and every dark stray hair that may be found on his tanned, chiseled body. But this aura intrigued him. It was magnetic as it both pulled Matt's hand closer to Ryan's glistening body, while repelling it, holding it a fair distance away, as his hand first truly understood the tension and frenzy within Ryan's body. His hand glided downwards with this primal force, towards the top of Ryan's towel, sitting at his hips. Matt's hand fell, touching the edge of Ryan's towel and both him and Ryan, spacing out, came to. "I uh... I'm gonna put our towels away, okay?" Matt asked. "Yeah, sure." Said Ryan. Matt turned away as he pulled Ryan's towel from him with ease. He headed out the sauna door without looking back. Matt stripped himself of his towel and draped both of them over their bags. He looked through his bag for something that would... that would help him get things moving. He pulled a bottle of sunscreen from his bag. `This'll do.' Matt turned his head towards the mirror above the bathroom sinks. His face fabulous, his shoulders, broad. His waist slim, his tall, proud masculinity ready for action. His legs, shaking... "Man I am a mess. A hot, hard, gorgeous mess." ------------------------------------------------------------- There was chapter three.
