But I can promise you another chapter very soon. Happy New Years Everyone! The Truth on Love Chapter 5 "Hey, you want to be my partner?" asked Sophia. "I really don't want to play," said Devin. "Come on. My friend Daisy isn't here and you look bored out of your mind." She grabbed Devin by the arm and dragged him near the low net. "Here's your racket. You've played badminton before, right?" she said, handing Devin the racket. Devin grabbed the racket and hit the birdie just as it was hit to his side. Sophia was too slow to hit it back. "Hey, I wasn't ready that time. Daisy wasn't really good at this, but I have a feeling you'll be a bit more of a challenge," said Sophia. She smacked the birdie to Devin's side, but Devin hit it back. This went on for a while until Sophia tripped on her shoelace. As much as Devin tried, he couldn't help but laugh. "Ha ha, so funny. I'm gonna stop going easy on you." "That was you going easy on me?" asked Devin with a smirk. Sophia returned the smirk and smacked the birdie as hard as she could. Devin backed up to try to catch up to it, but in the process he stumbled across a hard body and fell. "I am so sorry." Devin immediately froze. He had fallen on top of Blake. Blake didn't really seem to care. He got up and even offered Devin a hand. Devin refused it and went back to his spot. "Now it's my turn to laugh," said Sophia. She was trying to hold in her laugh but it ended up coming out as giggles. "It's not funny," said Devin, with a serious tone. "I'm sorry. No more laughing. Want to trade sides?" Devin agreed to switch sides and they continued their game. By the time gym was over, it was obvious that Devin had won the match between the two. "Gre-great work out. Phew, I think I lost 1 pound right there. Haha. Anyways, thanks for the fun match," said Sophia. She was still trying to catch her breath. "Yeah, no problem." The bell rang and off they went into the locker rooms. Devin really didn't want to have to be in the same room as Blake. But he had to pull himself through. Everything seemed to be going great until shirtless Blake came over to where Devin was. He crossed his arms and leaned against Devin's locker. "You know, you should really watch where you're going next time. I could have snapped your neck right then and now for falling on me," said Blake. "Why didn't you?" asked Devin. Blake looked at him for a while and slammed him against the lockers. Blake laid one arm against the locker, looking over Devin. "Why didn't I? Why didn't I?" Blake repeated. "I don't want to be the bad guy here Devin." "Hey, leave him alone. He's had enough of your bullying," said Tyler. Blake wouldn't budge. "Blake," called Tyler. He touched Blake, that made him flinch. Blake went back to finish changing leaving Devin alone once again. His actions confused Devin so much. ----- Drew was with his group of friends heading to the cafeteria. He spaced out of their boring conversation and let his mind drift into a new topic, Devin. Something about that boy had his mind going in circles. He could no longer concentrate during class whenever he got reminded of Devin's existence. He wanted to get to know this kid a lot more. "Drew, are you even listening to us?" asked Jackie, one of his friends. "Huh, oh yeah, yeah. Uh-of course I am." "What were we talking about then?" Drew had no answer because in reality he wasn't paying attention to them. They continued on walking to the cafeteria. Once there, they sat at the table that overlooked everybody else. Drew looked over and spotted Devin. He stared without a care in the world. His heart started beating faster and he could feel time slow down. "Drew. Drew!" yelled Monica. "Really? What has gotten into you today?" "Yeah man, you seem way out of it," said Marcus. Again, Drew ignored them. He was still focusing on Devin. "I'll be right back," said Drew. He got up and walked over to where Devin was sitting. Without bothering to ask, he sat down next to him. Devin looked over and met his gaze. "Can I talk to you?" asked Drew. "Why do you need to talk to him?" asked Caroline. Drew didn't bother to look at her and instead just took Devin my his arm and dragged him along to outside the cafeteria. "What did you need to talk abo..." But before Devin could finish his question, Drew moved closer and kissed him right on the lips. He held him there for a couple seconds before he slowly retreated with a hint of blush. Devin was looking at the floor confused. He never imagined his first kiss to come all of a sudden or to come from Drew. "I'm sorry, I just had to. It was driving me insane," said Drew. Devin was dead silent. He didn't know what to do or how to even react. "Hey, are you okay?" asked Drew. He lifted Devin's chin a little to gain eye contact. "Why don't you leave him alone? I think you've already scared him enough." Out of the shadows came Blake. Devin didn't look. He didn't have to look, he already had his voice memorized. Drew turned around and came up against Blake. "I don't need to listen to you. You're a nobody. Me, I'm just me. You on the other hand are just a shadow. A shadow everyone ignores and steps on," Drew said. He said this in an emotionless tone. Blake was starting to tighten his hands. He was ready to start something. "That's enough," said Devin and ran back to the cafeteria. "You stay away from him," threatened Blake. He gave one last glance at Drew and walked away. ----- "Where's Carmen?" asked Devin. "I don't know. She said she was going to the bathroom," said Caroline. "Oh, someone looks pissed." Devin looked behind him. Drew had an angry look on his face. "Did you make him mad?" asked Caroline. "I sure hope so, he's an arrogant bitch. Shows him right," commented Trevor. "No, I wasn't the cause of this. I don't know what is." The bell rang signaling the end of lunch. All the students got up and walked to their next class. Devin was at his locker when Carmen came up to him. "I'm assuming you saw what happened," said Devin without looking at her. She sighed and said, "Yup, I don't like him." "Which one?" "I don't like anyone of them," she said smiling. This made Devin smile as well. "How was your first kiss?" she asked. "I thought it would have a little more feeling and be more special than what I got. But it's too late to take that back." Devin closed his locker and started walking to class with Carmen. "What exactly do you plan on doing now that this happened?" she asked. "Nothing. Hopefully it will all go away." "Haha, as if." They walked in and sat at their usual spot for chemistry. A small looking kid came over to their table and asked, "Can I be in your group?" Devin noticed the kid from the other day at the library and the principal's office. "Sure," Devin said with a smile. The kid sat down and looked at the packet passed out to everyone earlier. "What's your name by the way?" asked Carmen. "Oh, um Cody. Cody Griffin." "Well it's a pleasure to meet you Cody," said Carmen shaking hands with him. ----- "Something about that kid makes me feel sad," said Devin. "Who, Cody?" "Yeah, I feel like he has a sad story in the background." "We should help him out. Get him out from under the dumps and into sunny land with the best group in town, us." Carmen pointed her thumbs towards her to emphasize her point. "We shall." ----- `I need to talk to him. I need to talk to him,' was all that Drew was replaying in his mind the whole football practice. His mind was distracted enough before but now this was driving him insane. He couldn't even hear himself think. It was all just too much. It happened all too soon. "Stupid stupid," he whispered to himself while hitting his forehead with his palm. "Ey yo Drew. What's gotten into you? Your mind isn't where it should be. This was probably the worst practice ever," said Kyle. "I don't want to talk about it," said Drew. Drew's eyes grew when he noticed Devin sitting in the bleachers with one of his friends. Almost without thinking Drew got up and walked over to Devin. "No!" "I need to talk to you," said Drew. Devin rushed to the top of the bleachers. He was trapped. "Please, let me explain." They sat at a bench next to the parking lot. It was away from everyone's view. "I..." "Don't say it," said Devin. "You don't mean it." "But I do. You're..." "The only gay person you know. Which is why you would want to say something like that," said Devin, interrupting him again. "You need to learn that the very first person you see is not going to be the one you spend the rest of your life with. You can't go around toying with everyone's feelings. People get hurt that way. Be patient and take the time to get to know the person first." Devin laid his hand on Drew's knee. At contact, Drew got up and walked away. "I'm sorry," said Devin. **Comments to garciaariel14@yahoo.com
