Timmy's Love-Chapter Five I groaned as I looked over at the clock. It read 11AM. Damn, good thing it was Sunday. I was pretty tired though. It was an emotional win last night and when Timmy and me got home there was only a few minutes of fooling around before the two of us realized how tired we actually were. A smile came to my face. 'Timmy' I thought to myself. I was really falling for this kid. There was just something about him. Something about his enthusiasm for life and his young demeanor. I loved every part of him. Love is a strong word and I'm really not sure about how things are going to lead in the future but all I knew was that my feelings and my heart told me something and I always follow it. I reached my arm over to the other side of the queen size bed and felt only sheets. I looked over and saw nothing along with an empty upstairs bedroom. I shifted up a little and smelled something really good coming from downstairs. Another smile came to my face. I got up and winced. The more I've been skating lately the more my knee has been hurting. I've hid it from Timmy so far and the rest of the team. Their dream is for me to play again but they've gotta win it all. Just gonna have to wait and see on that one I guess. I popped two Advils and took a swig of the Poland Springs bottle next to my bed as I threw on a t-shirt to go with my mesh shorts. I headed downstairs and looked on in amusement as Timmy stood with his back to me frying something on the stove. He stood there with one hand on the pan and one hand on his waist. He had no shirt on and mesh shorts on and from what I could see, it looked like he just went running. I made my way over slowly and quietly. I sneaked up behind him and wrapped my arms around his waist. He jumped a bit but I supported him enough to know that it was just me. He smiled when he saw me. He was about to turn around but I stopped him and started to kiss the back of his neck and then around near his collarbone and shoulder blades. He moaned into my kisses as I moved back up and started to lick the outside of his ear. I felt goose bumps all up and down his arms. I smiled. "Later" I whispered and walked around and sat on the counter. "I hate you." He said with a smile. "No you don't," I said as I poured myself a glass of orange juice. "You're right, but that was mean." He said as he leaned in and gave me a kiss. "So what's for breakfast?" I said as I looked over his shoulder. "Nothing for you after that." He said as I laughed. "Yeah you can't even finish a sandwich, no way are you gonna eat all those eggs" I said with a smile. "I finished off a shutout last night, saving your ass if you remember." He said as I got off the counter. "Your ass is better anyway," I said as I gave it a slap and walked towards the kitchen table. "Here you go coach. Anything else I can give you to keep my starting spot?" He said with a laugh. "Very funny, sit down asshole." I said as we both dug into the eggs, bacon, sausage and toast Timmy made. "So, looks like you went running. You should have woke me up." I said "Nah, you needed the sleep. You were groaning again." Tim said. "Sorry" I said as I grabbed the remote to turn on the TV to avoid the conversation. Timmy put his hand on mine to stop me and kept it there. "Matt, does your knee hurt?" He asked with those eyes of his. I looked back at the genuine look he had on his face. I couldn't lie to him. "Yeah it does bud, unfortunately." I said, as my face got darker. "Let me help you rehab it." He said. "You've got your senior season to focus on, don't worry about me." I said "You've been trying to protect me since I was 13 years old." Timmy said with a smile. "Yeah well you need it from time to time." I said smiling back. "You were tossing pretty bad last night." He said. "I don't sleep well anymore." I said looking down. "What's the matter Matt?" Timmy asked as he was now stroking my hand along with holding it. "I've been thinking about my mom a lot lately." I said My mother has always been a tough topic. She abandoned me when I was 2 years old and my grandparents raised me because my dad was still in high school when I was born. My grandparents did a great job and I had pretty much forgotten the difference until my mom showed up at my high school graduation. She came back and spent the whole next week in my hometown trying to catch up on old times. I never even asked her why she left because I was so happy to see her. At the end of the week though, she asked me to come live with her in Virginia. I told her that I was headed to college at the end of the summer and I couldn't just pick up and leave. She took off again the next day and I haven't heard from her since. It was a pretty traumatic experience and I never fully got over it. No matter how many good friends talked me down or psychologists I saw in my life it always haunted me. It was just something I couldn't shake off. The best thing I found to do was to just find something to take my mind off of it and hope it doesn't come back for a few days. Timmy saw how much this was hurting me and got up and came and sat on me lap, straddling my legs facing me. "It's ok Matt, I'm here for you." He said as he pulled me into a hug. I broke down. I clutched onto him and started bawling. All the memories of my mom came flooding back and I let them all out into Timmy's chest. I dug my hands into his shoulder as I clung for support to someone who was becoming my new best friend. People looked at me as if I wasn't supposed to make it this far. When I did so well in high school then almost went pro it was as if people were amazed and thought that it wasn't supposed to happen this way and it's a miracle I'm still alive. I hated that. My friends were always the one that shielded me from the pains of this. They kept my mind off of it and provided undying support as Timmy was doing right now. I could always get by with a little help from my friends. We spent the rest of the day relaxing. It was Sunday and that was our off day. During the week we had away games, on/off ice practices and hockey classroom. Saturday was our home game time and Sunday was the day to rest. The kids needed it anyway, they've been busting their butts for me. Timmy and myself were just watching TV talking about ways we could promote team unity. "Hey let's organize some pasta dinners, those are always good." I said out loud. "Yeah definitely, what about an end of the year big thing too at like Six Flags or something?" Timmy offered "Sounds great" I said as the phone cut me off. I got up and headed towards the phone. "Hello" I said as I picked it up. My face dropped. Tim got up after noticing the tone of my voice. He waited leaning against the counter to hear what was going on. "Alright I'll be right over." I said as I hung up the phone. "What's going on?" Timmy asked I looked up and sighed. "John was in a car accident. He's in the hospital." I said We walked into the hospital and were greeted by phones ringing and machines beeping. I never liked the feeling of a hospital, seeing as I spent a lot of my childhood in one. I was a pretty sickly kid but eventually I rounded out into a fine athlete but all these white walls brought back the weird feeling. I pushed through though. One of my players was in here and I needed to see him. I walked up to the desk with Timmy in tow. "Excuse me, I'm looking for..." I started but was cut off by Alex, who was also John's best friend. "Alex, what happened, where is he?" I asked "He's ok, he's awake now. I was here with him last night after he got hurt at the game. The doctors told him he had a broken arm and couldn't play the rest of the season so he got pissed and ran out. He must have been driving carelessly and he lost control and hit a telephone pole. His car is totaled and now he's got a broken leg to go along with his arm." Alex said. I ran my hand through my hair. "Can I go see him?" I asked "Yeah he's the second door on the right." Alex said. "Alright good, Timmy stay here with Alex in case more guys come in" I said as he nodded. I walked down the hallway and opened the door. I walked in and saw his mother sitting next to him. John came from a single parent family and even though he was an excellent player had a bit of a temper. Who could blame him though? I knew how hard it was to not have a normal family. Hockey was his outlet and when that was taken away from him he was understandably mad. "Mom, can I talk to coach alone please? I'll be ok." John said His mom got up and kissed him on the forehead. On her way out she grabbed my arm and whispered in my ear "Please help him" His mom left the room and I sat down next to the bed. "How you doing John?" I asked him "I've been better coach." John said. "What happened?" I asked "When they told me I couldn't play this season I just snapped. I got so mad." John said. "You still have next year John, you're only a junior" I said. "Not for that coach, I wanted to do it for you." He said. "For me? Why?" I asked confused. "I've always been a big fan of yours and I wanted to see you play again, now I can't do anything about it." John said with his head turned away. I put my hand on his good shoulder. "I appreciate that buddy, but there's still ways you can help the team." I said He looked back with tears in his eyes. "How?" "I need someone to help me scout the other teams. It gets lonely in those rinks wearing neutral colors. Why don't you come along with me?" I said "I'd like that a lot" He said with a smile on his face. "Good, now get some sleep." I said as I walked out the door. "Thanks Coach, I really appreciate it." He said as I gave him a wink and walked out. Timmy was standing against the wall waiting for me. I sighed and ran my hand through my short hair again, a thing I did when I was stressed. "Get the JV rosters, we've got some decisions to make." I said TO BE CONTINUED... <<<>>> ---ND---
