This is NOT a true story, and although some of the characters may be based off real people, none of the events in this story ever really happened. Anyways, let's get on with the story. Chapter One -- A Lesson Well Learned AJ sat staring out the window, his golden-red hair bouncing from the shaking of the bus. His soccer team had just lost another game, and they were riding home from the school in silence. At this rate they would barley make the playoffs. He sighed and looked around the dimly lit bus. Half the team was sleeping, the other half talked quietly amongst themselves. AJ looked to the front where the coach was sitting, his hat visor pulled down over his eyes as he sat forward, not facing his team. It had really been a bad game. They had lost to their rivals by six points. It hadn't been a total blowout; AJ had managed to get one goal in early in the game. Not that it mattered though, because the Tigers quickly rallied and destroyed their team, crushing not only team in points, but also in spirit. The coaches after-game speech didn't help any either. He wasn't exactly the most inspiriting coach. Actually, when it came to moral building, he was a drop-dead failure. But AJ didn't care, he just wanted to get home and sleep this day off. He was exhausted, and it showed. Sighing again, he leaned his head against the seat ahead of him, drifting off into a light sleep. He awoke to the sounds of the bus pulling into their dark high school parking lot. Rubbing his eyes, he looked around again to see the rest of the team, apparently rousing from similar naps. The bus slowed to a stop outside the back locker room doors and the boys filed out. AJ quickly changed back into his school clothes that he had left locked up, and after saying a few quick goodbyes to some of this teammates, he walked out the doors and started strolling across the parking lot. Jingling his keys in his hand a bit, he approached his black Honda. He was so glad he had gotten his license so early into his sophomore year. He wouldn't have to call his mom and wait for her like he did the year before. After unlocking his doors, AJ climbed in and started his engine up. He was ready to pull out of the space when two boys rolled past the front of his car on skateboards. He quickly put his foot back on the break cursing under his breath. He looked out the window and realized that one of the kids was looking back over his shoulder, flicking him off as he rolled away on his board. Furious, AJ gassed it and pulled out of his space, driving across the parking lot like a bat out of hell. He was going to scare the kids a little, teach them a lesson. He honked his horn as he approached and continued in a straight line towards the boy who had flicked him off. The boys looked over their shoulder, and veered out of the way. But the boy who had flicked him off turned too quickly and began to stumble as his board tore across the loose gravel on the side of the driving lane. He fell forward as his deck shot out from under his feet and hit the ground hard, rolling a few feet before he stopped. "Shit!" AJ yelled as he stepped on his breaks again, he hadn't meant for the kid to get hurt. He pulled his car back into a parking spot and got out of his car. The kid was still lying motionless on the ground, moaning in pain. His friend saw AJ coming and rolled off on his skateboard, probably afraid that he would be the next victim. AJ jogged over to the fallen skater and kneeled down next to him. "Are you ok? Shit I'm sorry man, I didn't mean for you to fall" AJ cursed himself again silently as he looked down at the boy below him, afraid that he had seriously hurt the boy. "My chest hurts really bad." The boy moaned, cradling his ribs as tears of pain formed in the corners of his eyes. "Shit man" AJ cursed again. "Here, let's get you standing up kid." He leaned down and slung the younger boys arm around his shoulder. "Kid?" the boy scoffed, "You barley look older than me." He said as AJ stood him up. He was right. Even though he was sixteen, AJ had the build and body-size of a thirteen your old. Short, probably the smallest guy on his team, he stood at around 5'6. He has a slender build, and was not at all muscular. He had a boyish face to match his figure, and his large greenish-blue eyes gave him an even more youthful look to him. He had reddish gold hair, which was losing the bleach-blonde color that it had previously held. "Looks aren't everything" AJ replied as he leaned the boy back against the fence and got a good look at him. He was your average skater boy, except, not so average. He was around 5'4, same build as AJ, with brown hair that curled around his ears and ended sloppily a few inches above his shoulders. He wore a black Adio t-shirt, with brown pants and Brown Etnies "Sheckler" shoes. The last feature AJ took in was the boy's eyes. Vibrant Green jewels encrusted into his boyish face, which now happened to be staring into AJ's. "Take a picture, it would last longer" the boy said flatly, breaking eye contact with AJ. "Sorry, I'm just trying to see if you're alright." AJ replied, also looking away quickly. "I'm really sorry that I made you fall off your board man." AJ apologized, being completely sincere. "It's my fault. I shouldn't have flicked you off." The boy said, looking down at his shoes. "Yeah, good point." AJ said, smiling lightly. "But seriously though, are you alright?" The boy lifted his shirt revealing a large abrasion going from just below his ribs, stretching all the way up the side of his body stopping just below his right arm-pit. "Shit. That looks pretty bad." AJ said, leaning closer to the boy to get a better view. He reached his hand up and lightly brushed the reddened skin. "It's just a bruise I think." said the boy, lowering his shirt. "I'll be alright" He leaned over and picked up his skateboard. "Well at least let me give you a ride home, as a token of my apology." AJ said, wanting to make sure the boy was really alright. "Your friend seems to have left you here anyways." "Alright, I guess that would be cool." The boy said. And with that they walked over to AJ's car, and again the engine started, and after getting directions from the boy, AJ shifted into gear and they drove away. The first few moments of the ride were silent. AJ just drove, glancing every so often at the boy sitting next to him. It was strange, but he felt attached to the kid somehow. But he didn't even know his name... "So...What's your name?" AJ asked. The boy smirked and replied: "My mom told me I'm not supposed to tell my name to strangers." AJ snickered "And she didn't tell you not to get into cars with them either?" "Right. Good point" he replied back, also chuckling. "My names Taylor" he relented. "Hi Taylor, I'm AJ." AJ replied extending a hand to him. They shook hands and then rode on for a few seconds in silence. "So yeah...How old are you?" AJ asked Taylor. "Fourteen." He said simply. "That's cool. Freshman?" "No, 8th grade. I go to Shelton." "Oh. That's pretty cool." "How old are you?" Taylor asked back. "Just turned sixteen" AJ answered. "Sweet." Taylor said back, with a trace of mock enthusiasm. "Heh. Yeah..." and then the silence returned. AJ drove for a few more minutes. Turning onto the street that Taylor said he lived on, he slowed. "So yeah, I really am sorry about making you fall man." AJ apologized a final time as Taylor pointed out which house was his. They slowed to a stop and Taylor opened the door. "Don't worry about it man, its cool." Taylor said one last time, he flashed a quick smile, showing his blue braces that AJ had not earlier noticed, and climbed out of the car. AJ waited as Taylor walked to his door and disappeared inside. Shifting back into drive, he pulled out and away from Taylor's house. This is my first real story I've ever written.
