"See ya sis," he said as he turned the key. "Tell the kid I said hey." "No sweat," David replied, giving her a light punch on the arm. He backed out of the driveway, waved to his sister and started back to the Murrays'. LIFE GOES ON - DAVID AND CHAD #35 - Wheat and Chaff His headlights flashed across the front porch and in their brief glow, he saw Matt and Karen sitting on the porch swing. He turned off the ignition and got out of the car, heading for the front porch steps. "Have a nice time?" Karen asked as he walked up the steps. "Yeah, it was pretty nice." "Well good, we're happy to hear that." David was reaching for the doorknob, then pulled his hand back, and sat in an empty chair. "Can I ask you guys something?" "Sure, David, what's on your mind?" Matt asked. "Well, I was wondering....," David started, then was interrupted as the front door opened and Chad walked out onto the porch. "Thought I heard ya come back," Chad said grinning. "Yeah, in one piece too," David smiled back. "So whatcha doin?" "Well, I kinda need to talk to your mom and dad, kiddo." Chad frowned a little. "How come?" "Ahhh, just some stuff I wanna get their opinion on." Chad sat down in another empty chair. "Okay." "Chad, I don't think you need to be around for this," Matt told the waiting boy. "Why not?" "Because we said so, young man. Now why don't you go in and pull out the sofa bed. There's sheets and all in the hall closet." Chad somewhat angrily got up from the chair. "Fine." Then he stalked inside, closing the door behind him. "Be right back," David smiled, following Chad inside. He walked into the living room to see the teen tossing the cushions into a corner. "Hey," he said quietly, seeing Chad's back stiffen. He stood up and turned slowly toward David. "So how come you don't want me around?" "Chad, look, I just need to ask your parents something, that's all. I promise I'll tell you later, okay?" "Something happen?" "Not really, I guess I just want your parents' opinion." Chad relaxed a little. "I'm acting like a kid, huh?" David chuckled and gave him a brief hug. "No, you're acting like me. I'll be done in a little while, okay?" "Promise you'll tell me?" Chad asked, holding out his extended little finger. "Promise," David stated, wrapping his own finger around Chad's. "Guaranteed." "Okay, sorry." "No big deal, kiddo. Be back in a bit." David turned and walked back out onto the porch, sitting back in his original seat. "Well, how mad is he?" Karen smiled. "Not really mad, just kinda upset. Okay now though." "He gets that way sometimes, but you know that already," Matt laughed. David smiled and nodded. He took a breath and went over the evening with his family. "So, what do you think I should do?" he finished. "Want the simple answer?" Matt asked. "There IS one?" "Not really," Matt admitted. "But you're the one who needs to figure it out, David. I hate to pass the buck, but you know your family better than we do. Your parents just want the best for you. Unfortunately, they seem to have picked a bad way to show you that." "You probably do need to clear it up," Karen added. "But do it when you feel it's right." "It'll go bad," David sighed. "They might surprise you, you know. We parents sometimes do that," Matt smiled. "It's just that every time I've tried, it ends up in a shouting match...or me moving out," David answered with a wry smile. "David, we talked to your mother last week. Did she tell you that?" David nodded, and Karen continued, "She told us a little bit of what's going on and is really worried that it will drive you away. She feels it already has." "Oh," David responded softly. "I guess in a way she's right." The elder Murrays nodded. "But if you want our advice, you should probably get it worked out one way or another before Christmas," Matt said. "After all, like we agreed, you need to spend that time with your family." David nodded, remembering their original agreement that he couldn't stay with them over the holidays. In the back of his mind, he had entertained the idea of doing just that, but it really wouldn't be fair to anyone. They were right, he needed to fight this battle. He exhaled loudly, "Yeah, you're right. Guess I need to face the music, huh?" "No, you need to state your case and let the chips fall where they may," Matt replied. "We all make mistakes, you know." David chuckled. "Yeah, I've had my fair share of those, that's for sure." "It'll work out. Maybe not the way you expect, but it will." "I guess. Look, thanks guys. Sorry to hit you with this on my first weekend home." "It's no problem, David," Karen smiled. "We can tell when something's bothering you. And if we can't, Chad lets us know," she finished with a laugh. "I have no doubt about that," David agreed. "He can read me like a book sometimes." The Murrays laughed at his rueful expression. They sat and chatted for a few more minutes before the elder Murrays stood up and excused themselves. "Well, it's almost nine, David. I think us old coots are going to do some reading and hit the sack. We have early church tomorrow, so early to bed and all of that," Matt chuckled. "Cool, okay, thanks guys." "You're welcome, David. We'll see you tomorrow." "Okay, think I'll sit out here for a while." "Well, I'm sure it won't be long before you have company," Karen smiled. "He's been standing at the door for the last few minutes." She pulled open the door, and Chad was standing there with a somewhat dumbfounded expression. The three laughed at Chad's discomfiture, and both his parents gave a hug to Chad, then walked upstairs. Chad returned their hugs, then watched as they walked upstairs. He closed the door behind him and sat in the porch swing. "Well, your bed's ready." "Cool, thanks man." "Wish I could stay down here with you, but I can't." "It's all good, kiddo. I do too, but just not a good idea." David made a motion to join Chad on the swing, but the teen shook his head. "Cindy'll be home soon," he informed a somewhat confused David. "So what's going on?" David re-hashed the story, watching the expression on Chad's face change as he related his evening. "So there ya have it." "Whatcha gonna do?" "I don't really know. What I do know is that I need to talk to Dad." "Man, that's kinda scary." "Yeah, I guess. But I gotta get it worked out before Christmas." Chad started to reply, then the porch was washed with the headlights from the Murrays' car as Cindy pulled into the driveway. She smiled as she approached the porch and greeted them. They engaged in a few minutes of small talk, then Cindy went inside, leaving them once again alone on the darkened porch. Chad waited a few minutes, then patted the cushion next to him. David grinned and joined his boyfriend on the swing. Chad immediately leaned against him and pulled David's arm across his shoulders. "This is nice," David murmured. "Uh huh," Chad answered and slid an arm behind David's back. "Kinda wished we coulda camped again," David said softly. "I wanted to, but mom and dad said it would probably be better if you slept in a real bed since you're going back tomorrow. And it's supposed to rain tomorrow." David chuckled. "Well, we sure didn't get a whole lot of sleep last night." "You did," Chad argued. "You kept me awake snoring." "I know that's a lie," David laughed. "I only snore inside." "Wonder how come?" "Dunno, weird huh?" "Yeah." David rubbed his chin on the top of Chad's head. "Love ya kiddo." "I know," David felt Chad smile. "Me too." Content in the darkness, they sat for almost an hour. Very little was said, nothing really needed verbalized. David felt Chad yawn and chuckled quietly. "Tired, kiddo?" "Yeah, but this is nice. I like it here." David tightened his arm slightly. "Me too, but you probably oughta get some sleep." Chad snuggled even closer into David's warmth. "Maybe I'll just sleep here." "Well, you're too heavy for me to carry upstairs. Guess I'd have to leave ya down here. You weigh a little more than ya did at ten." "Just stay here with me," Chad mumbled. He could do just that, David thought. He liked nothing better than holding his boyfriend like this. But it wasn't practical, romantic yes, practical, no. "C'mon, kiddo, let's get you to bed." Chad slowly straightened up and stretched. "Spoil sport." "That's me, now c'mon." Chad groaned and stood up. David grinned and shivered a little at the lack of Chad's warmth against him. As he stood up in front of Chad, the teen leaned his forehead against his chest sleepily. David briefly pulled the boy closer, then placed his hands on Chad's shoulders, pushing him away slightly. He grinned down into Chad's sleepy face and gave him a brief kiss on the forehead. The teen smiled slightly, then turned and walked into the house. As they passed the living room, David stopped. "Well, g'night kiddo." Chad opened his eyes a little further and smiled, pushing David into the living room. "Nice bed, huh?" He gestured toward the fold out sofa. "Yeah, looks comfy," David replied then was silenced by Chad's lips on his and his tongue buried in David's mouth. He responded just as aggressively, wrapping the teen in a tight embrace as their tongues wrestled. Breathlessly, he pulled his lips away and smiled down at his boyfriend in his arms. "That was nice, kiddo." Chad wiped the back of his hand across his face. "Yep, well, good night, Dave." Not relaxing his embrace, David tightened his hug once again. Neither one seemed to be willing to let go first. "Hey, kiddo," David whispered after a few minutes. "Yeah?" "Gotta leave go sometime, ya know." "You first." David chuckled and slowly relaxed his embrace, moving his hands to rest on Chad's shoulders. "Love you a lot, Chad. Now get to bed before you fall asleep on your feet." Chad nodded and briefly kissed David's cheek before unwrapping his arms and turning to head upstairs. "Night Dave, love you," he mumbled as he started up the stairs. David shook his head, still tasting Chad on his lips. He grinned ruefully - the teen had his normal effect, he was rock hard. He stripped for bed, slipping his gym shorts on and climbing between the sheets. His thoughts darted from one place to another, always coming back to the blond haired teen now in an upstairs bedroom. He almost absentmindedly stroked his erection. He gasped quietly as he felt himself reach the edge of orgasm after a few minutes and stopped his movements. He rolled over and found his discarded t-shirt, draping it across his stomach as he pushed the shorts down to his knees. His hand found its way back to his groin, and picked up where he had left off, his other hand gently fondling his tightening ballsac. Within a few strokes he was moaning quietly and his body tightened as he shot his release onto the shirt. Slowly his breathing returned to normal, and his muscles relaxed. He laid there motionless for a few seconds, then balled up the shirt and tossed it onto the floor. He pulled his shorts back up and rolled onto his side, almost immediately falling into a dreamless sleep. "Ugh," he grunted, wiping away the moisture that had dripped onto his forehead. Another drop landed on his cheek. Still curled up on his side, he wiped it away. Then a drop landed in his ear, bringing him awake. He heard a snicker from behind him as another drop landed on his forehead. "You know, if you weren't my friend, I'd beat you senseless," he grumbled, rolling onto his back and stretching. "Poor baby," Chad snorted as another drop of water landed on David's face. David slitted open his eyes to see his boyfriend grinning at him, a glass of water in one hand and the fingers of his other dipping back into the glass. David stretched again. "What time is it anyway?" "Time to get up," Chad replied and flicked his fingers, spraying David's face with droplets. "I hate morning people," David grumbled, closing his eyes. "Poor baby," Chad repeated. David heard Chad set the glass on the end table and felt the side of the bed sag as the teen sat on the edge. "Daaaaaaaviiiiid." "I'm gonna tell your mom and dad that you're terrorizing me," David threatened. Chad snorted again. "Good luck, they're in church." THAT got David's attention. He opened his eyes and looked up at Chad. "Really?" "Really," Chad grinned. "Just left." "Really?" David grinned. Chad rolled his eyes. David flipped the blankets back. "Well, whatcha doin' out there?" Chad laughed and said, "Morning breath." "You, or me?" David teased. Once again, an eye roll. "Okay, okay, sheesh, no need to get snitty." David smiled and rolled out of bed and made his way upstairs to the bathroom. He relieved the normal morning pressure, brushed his teeth, swiped the stick of deodorant under his arms and wandered back to the living room. He raised his eyebrows at the shorts and t-shirt on the floor beside the bed and grinned at Chad, who was on his back with the blankets pulled up to his chin. "Another present?" "Maybe." "Nice wrapping paper," David joked, sitting on the edge of the bed. "But I can't see what's inside." "So?" In answer, David grabbed the top edge of the blanket and started pulling it down. Chad closed his eyes as his chest was slowly exposed. David laid his palm on the smooth skin and rubbed across the teen's chest lightly. "Well, I like what I see so far." Chad nodded and smiled. David continued pulling the blanket down until Chad was completely exposed, the white briefs tented at his crotch. David shifted to lay on his side next to Chad, draping an arm across the teen's stomach. "Well, I like what I see," he whispered. Chad rolled toward him, pressing his body against David and wrapping an arm over the older youth's side. "Yeah?" "Yeah," David replied and kissed Chad's forehead. "You missed," Chad giggled, opening his eyes. His expression turned serious as David continued to stare into his face. "What?" David shook his head. "Shush." He pulled Chad even closer and pressed his lips against Chad's already parted ones. They gently ground their erections together as they kissed deeply. Chad pulled away first and drew a deep breath. He pushed David onto his back, draped himself over him and lowered his lips again. David ran his hands up and down Chad's warm back, then slipped them under the waistband of the teen's briefs. He kneaded the smooth butt as they continued to kiss. Once again, Chad pulled away first and almost spastically pulled the blanket back over them. He raised his hips, allowing David to slide his briefs down to his thighs. Slightly rolling off David, he then almost violently yanked David's gym shorts down, snagging his erection, making him gasp slightly. "Easy, kiddo," he managed before Chad was back on top of him, cutting off any further conversation with his lips and tongue again. The teen humped firmly against David's hips, their erections sliding and grinding against each other. David's hands continued to rub and knead Chad's cheeks for a few minutes then the teen raised his head, eyes clenched shut, and whimpered quietly as he shot his release between their stomachs and groins. David grunted softly and let the teen continue to slide their now slippery hardons together. Then as Chad relaxed slightly, he reversed their positions, raising himself to a push-up position. Eyes closed, he slid his own erection against Chad's slimy hip and after a few firm thrusts was gasping as his own orgasm hit, adding his release to their already wet stomachs. His elbows unlocked, and he dropped back down onto Chad's body. He kissed Chad's neck as he recovered from his orgasm, the teen motionless under him, arms loosely wrapped across his back. "Jeeez, Chad," he whispered a minute or two later. He felt Chad nod and tighten his arms slightly. David gently rolled off the teen onto his back and threw an arm across his eyes. "Holy shit," he whispered. "Ugh," Chad chuckled softly. David turned his head and uncovered his eyes to see the teen dragging a finger across his stomach. He grinned into the brown eyes. "Damn, what got into you?" "Me?" David laughed and briefly kissed Chad's cheek. "Yeah, you, ya goof. That was amazing." "Wow, huh?" "You could say that." David looked at the wall clock. "What time do your parents get home?" "Half hour." "We oughta get a shower then." "Yeah, I guess," Chad replied, then was pulling up his briefs and rolling out of bed. He grabbed David's discarded t-shirt and grinned as he wiped off his stomach. "It's all stiff," he teased. "Well, I sorta....umm, last night, you know." "Pervert," Chad laughed and tossed the now damp shirt to David. "Be back in a bit." Then he was pulling on his shorts and running up the stairs. David smiled, adding some more dampness to the shirt and pulled up his shorts. He walked to the window and pulled back the curtain. The sky was dark with rain and as he stood there, it began to pour. Thinking back on their camping trip, he grinned and opened the window a crack. A few minutes later, Chad was back downstairs, hair damp and water droplets still beaded on his bare shoulders. "Your turn." David grinned at the teen. "Let the window open a little for a while." Chad's look of confusion changed to a grin as he realized the reason. David briefly squeezed the boy's shoulder, grabbing a fresh set of clothes out of his back and went to shower. He was just pulling on his t-shirt and opening the bathroom door when he heard the other Murrays pull into the driveway. Shaking off their wet coats as they came in the door, Matt smiled at David, who was coming down the stairs. "Oughta be glad you guys didn't camp out last night." Chad came out of the living room, dressed except for shoes and socks, the sound of Sunday morning cartoons following him. He peered out the still open door. "That would have sucked." "Chad Murray!" Karen scolded. "There will be none of that in this house." Chad grimaced at his slip and apologized. Satisfied their youngest had been properly chastised, she turned to David. "Next time he says something like that, stick pepper on his tongue." David smiled back at her. "Red pepper? That's what mom and dad used to use on Lynn and me." Karen broke into a grin. "Guess we'll have to remember that. Red pepper next time, Chad." "Thanks, Dave, you're a good friend," Chad scoffed. "No sweat, kiddo. I aim to please," David chuckled as the other Murrays set about preparing for the rest of the day. Soon the kitchen was filled with five hungry stomachs and the pancakes and bacon disappeared without a trace except the dirty dishes. David volunteered himself and Chad to wash the dishes, getting another grimace and 'thanks' from the teenager. A few minutes later, the two joined Matt and Karen in the living room where the sofa bed had been put away, the sheets and blankets piled on the floor. "So when are you leaving today?" asked Matt. "Well, I have to go see Nanny sometime today, so I'll probably leave here soon, and head back to school about four." He grinned at Chad. "Ya wanna go?" "Ummm, I dunno. She's kinda scary." "She doesn't bite," David laughed, then got serious and added, "Hard, anyway." He broke into laughter at the expression on Chad's face. "Teasing, man. She's not that bad, just likes to pretend she owns the world." The elder Murrays laughed along with him. "If you want to go Chad, you can. It's up to you." "I guess," Chad surrendered. "She'll probably have apple pie....," David started. "With ice cream?" Chad laughed. "I'm never gonna live that down, am I?" "Nope." David rolled his eyes at Matt and Karen. "Maybe I'll just drop him off and let him visit alone for a while." "Probably take the spunk right out of him," Karen grinned. "Knowing Nanny, probably come back with more spunk than he left with," David laughed. "Actually, if you're coming," he said to Chad, "we oughta split so I can get back in time." "If you want any clothes washed, David, throw them on the pile of blankets and I'll do them," Karen offered. Thinking over the weekend's activities, David smiled and answered, "That's okay, I'll do 'em when I get back to school. Got some others down there anyway. And they're all packed." "Okay, if you're sure." "No problem, but thanks." When Chad was ready to go, they said their farewells, and ran to the car. David tossed his bag into the backseat and started the car. "Ready for the inquisition?" he asked. "Yeah, I guess," Chad answered seriously. "Trust me, man. It'll be okay." "If you say so." David chuckled, shook his head, and drove Chad to what he thought was his doom. When David pulled into his grandparents' driveway, Chad was reluctant to get out of the car. "C'mon, Chad." The teen sighed, opened his door and followed David onto the front porch. David rang the doorbell and a few seconds later, his grandmother opened the door, took one look at her visitors, and turned back into the house. "C'mon in," she said gruffly, disappearing around the corner. David smiled at Chad and ushered him inside where the smell of baking assailed their noses. "Told ya - apple pie," David laughed and led Chad to the kitchen. "Smells good, Nanny," David observed after a deep breath. "I assume you think you two are going to get the benefits of that smell?" David felt Chad sidle up close to him and smiled. "Well, sure, that's what grandsons are for." "Some may think so," his grandmother answered, closing the oven door after checking on the progress of the pies inside. She stood up, wiped her hands on the apron she was wearing and turned to face them. "Well, I see you talked Mr. Murray into coming for a visit as well, David." "Yeah, kicking and screaming until I told him you made the best apple pie this side of the Mason-Dixon Line." His grandmother turned her attention to Chad, who eased a little further behind David. "Chad, don't be shy." David smiled to himself. His grandmother was performing true to form. Chad silently moved to stand beside David. David felt the teen tense as his grandmother stepped over to them. She directed her next question to the blond teenager who seemed ready to bolt. "Do you like apple pie, young man?" Chad nodded. "Well, contrary to what my grandson has told you, it's not the best this side of the Line. He's somewhat brain damaged, you know." Chad looked into her face finally and saw her grin. Surprised, he looked at David, who had a matching smile, then back to Nanny and gave a small smile in return. His grandmother chuckled and patted Chad on the shoulder. "You'll do, young man." She kissed David on the cheek and grinned, motioning toward the kitchen table. "Told ya," David whispered to Chad as they took their seats. Lighting a cigarette, David's grandmother joined them at the table. She poured them a cup of hot tea and asked, "When are you leaving, David?" "Well, everything's packed. I have to drop Chad off, I guess around four or so." She turned her attention once more to Chad. "Young man, do you treat your grandparents this way?" "What way, ma'am?" Chad asked. "Only go to see them when you know they're going to feed you?" David chuckled to himself, she was really laying it on thick. "No, ma'am," Chad answered. "How old are you, young man?" "15. I'll be 16 next month." "You look younger than 15. Of course, I look younger than 66, too," she chuckled, bringing a smile to Chad's face. "Where's Pops?" David asked. His grandmother snorted. "He's down at the store, had to get him out of the house. He was driving me crazy." David laughed and took a drink of his tea. "You sure it wasn't the other way around?" "David Barker, how dare you say such a thing," she growled. Then her face broke into another smile. "So, young Chad, I want to thank you again for asking us to David's party." Then she dropped her voice and held her hand beside her mouth as if letting Chad in on a secret. "Even though he didn't deserve one." Chad laughed, the earlier tension gone. "Well, he doesn't like surprises, so that's almost the same, right?" David rolled his eyes. "Sure, two against one. Keep this up and I won't bring him back." His grandmother glared at David. If you could glare with a smile on your face. "Well, young Chad here is welcome anytime." Chad turned and stuck his tongue out at David as she laughed. The oven timer buzzed and his grandmother got up from the table to take the pies out. David used the opportunity to squeeze Chad's knee briefly, lean over and whisper, "Told ya she's all bark and no bite." "I only bite when needed," his grandmother said from the stove. Then she turned around and admonished, "David, it's not polite to whisper in the presence of others. Keep that up and you won't get any pie." "Okay, okay, I give," laughed David. "Now, if young Chad would like to go get the ice cream out of the freezer, we can eat." At Chad's questioning look, David directed him how to get to the basement. Chad smiled and went down the steps. "He's a polite young man, isn't he?" David laughed. "He's a scared young man, Nanny." "Ohh, pshaw, I'm not that scary." "Believe me," David said as they heard Chad start back up the stairs, "you CAN be." "Have to separate the wheat from the chaff, David." "Is this what you wanted, ma'am?" Chad asked from the doorway, holding out the bucket of ice cream. "Young Chad, please stop calling me ma'am." She turned to David, "That will do, unless you want the other?" David grinned and stood up. He passed Chad and grabbed the ice cream bucket. "There's something better," he assured the confused teen as he headed back downstairs. Chad walked back to the kitchen table and sat down. "Umm, sorry I got the wrong thing," David heard him say as he reached the bottom of the steps. "You didn't, Chad. David has decided on something else. I think you'll like it." David returned the bucket to the freezer, grabbed another, and walked back upstairs. "Tah dah," he announced, setting the bucket on the counter. Noticing his grandmother had already placed three pieces of pie into deep plates, he opened the bucket and dished out the 'replacement' ice cream on top of the still warm pie. He carried the pie to the table, remembering to put the ice cream back in the freezer this time, and sat one in front of each of them. "Homemade," he told Chad, and dug in. "Slow down, boys, you'll get a headache," his grandmother warned as the pie and ice cream rapidly disappeared from their plates. Within minutes, their pie was a memory. David grinned at Chad, "Told ya." "That was very good, ma'am," Chad offered, pushing his plate away. "Looks like you could use another piece," she suggested, smiling. "Can I?" "I'll take that as a compliment," David's grandmother chuckled and motioned Chad to fix another piece for himself. "Go right ahead, make yourself at home, help yourself." Chad set about fixing another plate and David grinned across at his grandmother. "You realize you've created a monster? He'll never leave now." "Wheat and chaff," his grandmother replied, raising her eyebrows. David nodded, smiling at Chad's confusion. "That means you've become an honorary grandson," he laughed. "Does that mean I can call you Nanny?" Chad asked. "Well, it's a lot better than ma'am," she laughed. "Cool," Chad enthused, and dug into his second helping. The rest of the afternoon passed in easy conversation between the three of them, and four when his grandfather arrived. David glanced at the clock. "Guess we oughta get you home, kiddo." Chad followed his glance and nodded. They stood up and started toward the door. Before opening it, David turned to give his grandmother a kiss on the cheek. "Thanks, Nanny," he said. "You're welcome, David. Drive safely." David nodded and raised his eyebrows in pleasant surprise as Chad planted a kiss on the other cheek. "Thanks.....Nanny," he smiled, red-faced. "It was my pleasure, young Chad. You're welcome here any time." Chad grinned and nodded, then walked out to the car. David hugged her and repeated, "Thanks." "Wheat and chaff," she responded. David smiled and walked down the steps to his car. ****************************************************************************** "Wheat and chaff" was one of my grandmother's favorite sayings.
