So the same disclaimer applies. If you can't handle that, or it's illegal to read this in your area, or you're underage, then now is the time to leave. If you continue reading after that admonishment, Nifty and I aren't responsible. There could also be incidents of unprotected sex. As always, I don't condone this practice - especially in this day and age. With the title of the last chapter, y'all were probably thinking this chapter was going to be kinda 'stormy.' Not yet...lol. I've also been kinda surprised at the emails I've been getting about Greg and David. Seems to be an even split on who's leading who on... :-) I promise to TRY to answer emails more regularly. I'm mostly settled into the new house, still living out of boxes somewhat, but it's getting better. It's still gonna be a couple of days before I get to the responses, so bear with me. Hope all you U.S. readers had a good holiday... Take care, and be safe. Fup FROM CHAPTER 56 David slid closer to the wall as Greg made a second attempt to boost himself into his bunk, this time successfully. He leaned over the edge of the mattress. "Night, man." "Yep, night Greg, see ya in the morning." "Yep." Greg pulled his head back and settled into his bunk. The last thing David heard before he drifted off was his roommate's slow breathing. LIFE GOES ON - DAVID AND CHAD #57 - Hearts "So what do ya think, Dave?" "I dunno, man. I've got a huge test on Tuesday." "But it's Friday." David sighed. Greg had been bugging him for the last 15 minutes about going out. He did have a test next week, but it really wasn't 'huge'. In fact, the last week had been kind of tough for David. Greg had become flirtatious again, and David wasn't sure he could 'hold the line'. His roommate had been hanging around a lot in the evenings, and David hadn't had a good chance to 'relieve his stress'. Bottom line, he was horny and was hoping Greg would just go without him so he could have the room to himself. "I know. But better safe than sorry." "Jeeez, bet if Mark and Vic wanted to go out, you would." "Greg, I dunno man," David replied, his resistance fading. "C'mon, just for a few hours. We'll be back before you turn into a pumpkin," Greg grinned. "Don't you have anyone else that'll go? Maybe a girl or something? I'm sure they'd be a lot more fun than I would." Greg rolled his eyes. "C'mon, Dave." "Just askin', that's all," David sighed. He jerked a little when Greg put his hands on his shoulders and started rubbing. "C'mon, Dave, it's not like you've been a party animal or anything." David sighed again, this time inwardly. Greg DID give good shoulder rubs. That thought was replaced with how much Chad liked his back rubs. "I'd really like to, Greg." "Then do it," Greg replied, hands squeezing and rubbing the increasing tension on David's shoulders. "You're all tense anyway, a few hours away from the books'll do ya good." "Yeah, but I remember what happened the last time you had a few drinks," David grinned. "I really don't fell like babysitting tonight." "You won't." "Uh huh, well if I do, I'll just leave you there with a note that says, 'Rape me.'" Greg snorted. "Don't worry about that, you won't need to. C'mon, just a couple of drinks with your roomie." David chuckled. "Who has no life." "Whatever," Greg answered, pulling his hands away from David's shoulders. David sighed. "Okay, fine, just give me about an hour, okay?" "Cool, yeah, thanks Dave," Greg said, giving David's neck a brief squeeze. "Yeah, yeah, I thought it was the older people who were supposed to lead the younger astray," David grinned. "Guess you were wrong," Greg laughed, climbing onto David's bunk. "What is it with you and my bed?" "More comfortable than the chair," Greg said, "now get back to work." David rolled his eyes and went back to his text book, mind racing. "You're just a pushover," he murmured to himself. "No you're not," Greg laughed. "You must have good ears," David smiled. "Yeah, well, you'd be surprised at what I hear." "Right, yeah," David scoffed, returning his attention to the words on the page. Forty-five minutes later, David exhaled loudly and closed the book. He looked over to where Greg was still sprawled on his bunk. "Okay, weenie, you ready?" "Yeah, c'mon, let's go," Greg answered. He slid off David's bunk and walked to the closet to get his coat. David mirrored the action and the two left the room, pushing through the outside door into the cold twilight. "Damn, it's cold," David shivered. "It gets that way in the winter," Greg laughed as they headed toward town. "No shit, Sherlock, just making an observation," David punched Greg jokingly on the shoulder. They chatted randomly as they walked to The Hole. Greg was a good guy, thought David. A little confusing, but still a nice guy. His slight naivete reminded him a lot of Chad. If things were different, maybe... David shook himself out of that line of thought. It could only lead to no good. Especially with the mood he was in. They pushed through the bar door and hung their coats on the rack, finding a booth along the side wall. David looked around, nodding to people he knew from his classes and joined Greg in the booth. "What'll it be?" the waitress asked. David raised his eyebrows at his roommate, "Well? You're buyin'." "Umm, how about a pitcher of Michelob and two large fries?" "Okay, guys, I'll bring the beer, the fries will be a few minutes." Greg nodded and turned his attention to David. "See, it's not so bad." David smiled. "Yeah, guess you're right. Feels good to be away from the books for a bit." "You really study too much, Dave," Greg said. "Not much more to do except play pool and drink," David observed in return. "Did you and your friend come here much?" Greg asked out of the blue. "Who, Kel?" David stammered slightly. "Yeah." "Not really that much. He got into other ways of passing time." "Huh?" "Never mind," David replied. "Okay, I just thought that since you two were such good friends, you'd hang out a lot." "Not as much as you might think," David replied carefully. "It was kinda like..." His response was interrupted by the waitress placing the pitcher of beer and two glasses on the table. David reached for the pitcher and poured them each a glass. "Why thank you sir," Greg chuckled, taking a swig of the amber liquid. "My pleasure," David retorted with his own grin. "So you were saying," Greg prompted. "I dunno, we really didn't hang out much here. We both had our own classes and stuff. And Kel hung around a lot with his brother the last couple of months or so. Didn't leave much time except when we went home." Greg nodded. "That's kinda weird. From what Mark and Vic said, you two were like super tight." "We were, kinda like brothers. But I guess people change," David trailed off and took a gulp of his beer. "That sucks, Dave," Greg replied. David looked up to see genuine concern on Greg's face. "Thanks, but that's just the way it was, ya know?" "Yeah, I never really had a real close friend. I mean I had a few in high school, but it wasn't like any one of them was a 'best friend'." "Guess I was lucky," David admitted, staring into his beer. "We'd been friends for like forever. It was kinda rough, ya know?" "I guess. I mean I never had to go through stuff like that. I mean I did, like with my grandparents dying and all, but nothing like that." David shrugged. "I got through it. Had a good friend at home that has helped out a lot. And Mark and Vic were great." "So is that why you don't like to go out and stuff?" Greg asked. "Huh?" "You know, like tonight. You would have much rather studied than come here." David shrugged again, "I dunno, maybe. Never really thought about it." The basket of fries was delivered to the middle of the table and the waitress asked if there would be anything else. "Another pitcher, if you don't mind," Greg replied. The waitress nodded and left once more. "What's up with this?" David smiled. "Tryin' to get me drunk?" "Nah, just that we have to have something to wash down these fries," Greg grinned. "Whatever. So what, are you playing David's therapist?" he asked a little sharply. "Hey, chill out, Dave. Just tryin' to figure you out, that's all," Greg replied. "Not much to figure out, man. Sorry." "S'okay, you're just grumpy because you want to go back and study." David laughed, "Yeah right." He poured himself another glass and reached for the basket of fries. "So what about you? Why no real close friends?" Greg shrugged and swallowed. "Dunno really, never had much time I guess." "Didn't ya ever want someone that you could talk to? About anything?" Greg shrugged, "Yeah, that would have been nice. Although I'm trying right now." David stopped chewing and looked at Greg, who was slightly flushed. "So that's what this is all about?" "Kinda, yeah. I mean I've been trying everything to get you to be my friend." "Greg, umm, man, jeeez, I thought I was." "Well, sometimes I feel like I can tell you anything. And then sometimes I feel like if I do, you'll not like me." "Shit, I guess I've been kind of an asshole, huh?" Greg looked at him seriously. "Yeah, sometimes." "Well Greg, now that I know, I'll try to be a little better about stuff." "You don't have to. Like I said, I'm just trying to figure you out. I mean I'd like to have you as a good friend, but, ahhh, well, you know." David saw Greg blush even deeper as he tried to explain. "Hey, it's okay. No need to be embarrassed. It's cool." Greg drained his glass and poured another. "It's just that when I think I'm getting close, you do or say something that ruins it. Or I do." David nodded. Greg was right. Every time they were close to the same wavelength, one of them would screw it up. "Well, there's one consolation," David smiled. "And what's that?" "We're still young and dumb." Greg snorted, blowing beer through his nose and started coughing. David started laughing and tossed Greg a couple of napkins. "Sorry." Greg caught his breath and looked at David with watery eyes. "The next time you're gonna be funny, warn me, okay?" "Guess I should, cause you just snorted your beer in the fries," David replied, still laughing. "Serves you right," Greg answered. He gave one final cough and looked morosely at the now soggy fries. "Wanna get some more?" "Nah, it's cool. Let's just finish our liquid refreshment." "Okay, sounds like a plan." Greg paused. "Am I being stupid?" "About what?" "All this friend stuff." "Do you think you're being stupid?" "I dunno, that's why I'm asking." "I think we both need some lessons in the friends department. At least with each other, so we'll just hafta work on it. Deal?" David smiled over his glass. "Yeah, sounds good." "Cool. And no, I don't think you're being stupid. You're a nice guy, Greg. I like you, but just don't know how to take you sometimes." "You can take me anywhere," Greg grinned. "Ahh, dunno about that. Some of the places I go might freak you out." "What? You into leather bars and stuff?" Greg joked. "Yeah, just call me 'master'," David snickered. "Pleeeease," Greg replied. "That's a start," David retorted. "You know, you say you can't figure ME out." David wiggled his eyebrows. "I'm a mystery." "Kinda, yeah." "Don't worry about it," David became serious. "I'll try to work on that. If you do." "Sounds good," Greg smiled and split the remaining beer between their two glasses. He raised his toward David. "To friends?" "Sounds good," David replied, clinking their glasses together. Greg swallowed his beer in one gulp. "Ready to go?" "Sure, man. Let's blow this joint." David noticed an unreadable expression cross Greg's face, then he grinned and slid out of the booth. David followed and they retrieved their coats and started the cold walk back to the dorm. "Man, it's like nine," Greg noted, looking at his watch. "Time flies, and all that." "Yeah, guess it does. Glad it's Friday night." "Me too, can relax a little." "That'll be a first," Greg chuckled. "Hey, I said I'd work on it, okay?" "No need to get violent, jeeez." "You know, you kinda remind me of a friend I have back home." "Yeah?" "Yeah, kinda, he's a goofball too," David said then took off running. He ran around the corner of a building and slid into a recessed doorway. He heard Greg's running steps approach and grinned as his roommate passed by. "Hey!" he yelled, startling Greg, who stopped in his tracks and turned, his panting breath pluming in the cold air. "What's the matter? You outta shape?" Greg shook his head and grinned. "A goofball?" "Yep, the jury's in on that one." "Whatever." As David approached Greg, he asked, "So what's the plan?" Greg shrugged, "Dunno." "Well, better think of one or I'll go back to studying." "Can't have that. That's kinda boring, sitting around watching you read." "Oh, so I'm under observation when I study?" "Yeah, you gnaw on the end of your pen a lot," Greg laughed. "Better than gnawing on the end of something else," David retorted. "Yeah, like...your desk." "Yep, the splinters would get caught between my teeth." "Uh huh, well c'mon, it's cold." David chuckled and wrapped his arm around Greg's neck. "Poor baby, let's get poor Greg out of the cold before he catches his death." Greg extricated himself from the loose headlock. "You know, on second thought, I dunno if being friends is a good idea. If I get treated this way." He poked David's side as they started walking. "Hey, ya gotta take the good with the bad." "Yeah, but with you...never mind," Greg grinned. "I know, more bad than good." "YOU said it, I didn't." "Didn't have to, just admitting my shortcomings," David laughed. They walked up the dorm steps and through the door still laughing and joking. As they passed Mark and Vic's room, the door opened. "Did you two kids have fun?" Mark asked. "Sure did, Dad, and we're home before curfew," David answered. "Well, young man, let's not make this a habit. Anyway, Vic and I are playing Hearts, wanna sit in?" "The TWO of you are playing Hearts? That sounds like lots of fun," David snickered. "Yeah well, you know, Vic's on the rag and didn't wanna go out tonight." "Hey! You're just pissed cos I'm winning," Vic retorted, walking up behind Mark. "Sounds like the invite was just so he could get out of losing," David said. "Whatever it takes," Mark agreed. "So what about it?" David looked at Greg and shrugged. "I'm game, what about you?" "Never played before," Greg answered. "It's easy, c'mon," Vic smiled. "Penny a point?" David asked. "Sure why not?" Mark agreed. "We'll be right there," answered David, unlocking their room door. "Bring money," Mark stated as the door closed behind them. Another roller coaster ride. Or is it the same one?
