What Happened in Highschool Chapter 12 Kane told me he wanted to talk and was going to drive from University and pick me up. At that moment I didn't care. Everyone knew I was gay. Aaron was being an arse and something told me that Kane had some answers. About half an hour later I watched as an unfamiliar car pulled up on the street in front of my house. Kane got out of the drivers seat and walked up to the door. I waited for him to knock and swung the door open. "Hey little mate. Come for a drive?" Kane smiled reassuringly at me and after a minute's hesitation I decided he wasn't here to beat me up and agreed. We drove in silence for awhile before Kane spoke. "I guess you're wondering why I wanted to see you huh?" At my nod he continued. "I'm kinda worried about Aaron. He's acting like a prick lately. It took me awhile but I finally got what happened out of them." Them? What the fuck did he mean? Was Aaron sleeping around? I mean I knew he had been way more sexually active before he was with me. All we had done was a couple of blowjobs... maybe he got sick of waiting. Stop it Matt, stop overanalyzing. You always do this and everything gets blown way out of proportion. It was silent again for a moment as we both glanced at each other, trying to gage expressions and reactions. Kane pulled up a minute later alongside a park and motioned for me to get out. As we walked along the path towards a small fairly scabby little park with a swing set and monkey bars, Kane dropped another big one. "It's mum and dad." "Huh?" I stammered, repressing the urge to have a go on the monkey bars. "Mum and dad have been at him for awhile now. Sit down here." He pulled me down onto a patch of grass and continued. "They've guessed he was gay for awhile now, years actually. It wasn't a problem before. Aaron never flaunted it in front of them. So they just ignored it. Then you came along." I stared at Kane waiting for him to keep going. He sighed. "Suddenly you were all he was talking about. He spent more time over at your house then with mum and dad. I found out recently that they had been encouraging him to find other friends, more importantly girl friends. They've been arguing about it since you two got together. They think you're influencing him, making him gay." "What?" I was annoyed but not that shocked. I had seen Aaron's mum's reaction to me when I was at his house. Thinly veiled disapproval. "I've never met your father or even your sister." Kane nodded. "Dad's not home much and Jill's a bit of a socialite for a twelve year old. But how much time did you spend at our house?" "That was hardly my fault! Aaron never wanted to go there! He insisted we hang out at my place." I replied angrily. Kane smiled sadly. "I know. But now you know why. I don't think he wanted you to know mum and dad didn't want you there." "Why did your dad think that if he hadn't even met me?" I asked feeling a wave of sadness. Kane winced. "Dad's a bank manager and frankly he is the epitome of conservatism. Neither Aaron nor I have ever really been close to him. Mum's different. She gets into every aspect of your life whether you want her to or not. She's been pushing Aaron to give you up for awhile now, with full reports to dad." Oh shit. Kurt was right. Maybe Aaron had seen what happened as an easy out, something that could transfer the blame to me. "Don't give up just yet huh? You were good for him, he was a lot less serious and happier than I've seen him in awhile when he was with you." Kane patted my back. That comment made me happy and sad at the same time but I pushed the emotions away. "What about Renee?" Kane winced and looked quite angry. "Yeah. I've asked that same question. She was a friend of yours?" I shrugged and gave a bitter laugh. "Use to be. She told everyone at school that I was gay." Kane looked shocked and angry. "What? You mean you've been outed? How did she find out? Aaron wouldn't have told her I'm sure, no matter how angry." I shook my head. "No it was my own doing. I've really fucked up haven't I?" I flopped backwards on the grass and stared at the sky. "Shit Matt. It'll work out, things do. In the meantime feel free to call me if you need to talk anytime ok?" We chatted for awhile before Kane dropped me off at home. "Will you quit it?" Kurt demanded of me at lunch. "Huh? Quit what?" I asked in confusion. Well maybe I had a bit of an idea. "Stop looking at him." Kurt sighed. I bit my lip ring and started scratching at the wooden table with a chewed nail. "Sorry." Kurt rolled his eyes. "Well he's no better. I see him watching you constantly. Renee too." I instantly glanced back over at the table he was sitting at. Aaron and Renee weren't sitting together and were both staring over at me. Aaron quickly looked away but Renee kept staring, a frown on her face. I heard another loud sigh from Kurt. "What's the matter with him?" Abby asked disengaging from a heated debate about whether there were many movies that were better than the original books. She gave Kurt a speculative look, then ate some of his sandwich. Kurt glared at her and pulled his food closer for protection. "He's grumpy." I replied. "Oh and Bridget Jones' Diary the movie was better than the book." I added. They both stared at me. I blushed. "Well mum likes the movie and she told me... look whatever." Abby was grinning at me and Kurt was frowning. "You mean you actually read the book?" "No! Mum said the movie was better. Don't be saying shit about my mum huh?" I turned it back on him and Kurt shut up. He loved my mum probably nearly as much as me. "Mummy's boy!" Abby laughed and poked me in the side. "It's so cute!" I grumbled but found myself watching Aaron again. "You know Matt, those dicks over there think Aaron stopped being your friend cause he found out you were gay." Abby said abruptly. I looked at her to see her studying me carefully. "That's meant to make me feel better?" "No, not really. Just thought you should know." Abby said mildly. "Hey we were thinking of going and seeing a movie tonight. Wanna come?" It was fun hanging out with my friends again. I had got a bit caught up with Aaron when we were together and I hadn't seen as much of them. When we were together... shit I was already thinking in past tense. The guys, realizing the funk I was in made sure I had a good time and dropped me off at home later that night. My good mood disappeared abruptly when I saw a dark figure sitting on the front doorstep. "Hey Matt. I really need to talk to you." It was Aaron. He stood up and came towards me. I remained completely still as his hand brushed my arm. It was then that I noticed he had bruising around his eye. My hand reached up automatically before I stopped it and stepped back like I had been burned. And I had been burned really. Just not in the physical sense.
