I want to thank the people that have emailed and commented you all have given me so much support and a special thank you and to Lily for all the editing and support you give. Syke s. 2. Welcome to my life I was sitting in the emergency waiting room as I saw Ms Williams walking into the theatre, followed by nurses running here and there. I was really worried about the situation, and all the fuss created by the doctors running in and out of the room didn't help at all. I remember I still had Tristan's diary. I wiped the tears away from my eyes, which were raw from all the crying by now. I don't think I have ever cried this much. I sat down at the nurses' station and waited for any news, good or bad. "Code red in theatre two, Doctor Grey please come to theatre two," a female voice announced in the loudspeakers as more doctors and attendants ran into Tristan's room. I sat back and recalled how it all began as a fresh stream of tears began to flow. `."This sucks," I said, as we drove into Hillcrest while rolling my eyes. We had just arrived in Hillcrest, where my dad grew up, and I was born. We left it when I was only 5, but now we're back. "Troy, how about a new phrase..like `this bites' or `this blows' `cause you've been saying `this sucks' for the past 1500 miles" Mum said, trying to cheer me up. "Huh . um . this sucks," I repeated "Come on, this is going to be fun!" Dad piped in, clapping his hands and forgetting his driving. ".we got the weather, we got the palm trees with the..." Dad said trying to cheer me "MORE PALM TREES." Mum and I exclaimed together. I fake-smiled, or rather grinned, he had once again made me forget how upset and angry I was for leaving Hillside. "This sucks, bites, and blows." I finally said. "Come on Troy, this is where we are. Gran Ma needs us as she's getting older. Remember, family first. Besides, your mum and I have given up a lot for this move, too." He said as we got into the town. "Uh . really? Have you left a very good tennis career back home, not to mention a girlfriend?" I asked, shuffling through my iPod music. "As a matter of fact I have," Dad said with a chuckle and added, "She's very heart broken and so am I." ".but there's always bbm, honey," Mum said. "Whatever. You guys are impossible, and I'm not gonna listen to this crap." I said as I plugged in my iPod and maxed my volume. We soon arrived at the Alexander Mansion in Darling point where my father grew up. It had been exactly 11 years since I lived in Alexander Mansion. "Dad, I still can't believe you grew up in this house," I said as I ran out of the car toward the house. "The Captain has landed." Dad said as he opened the Range's boot. "Troy ." my cousin Nicolai called as he and Gran Ma came out to greet us. "Gran!" I hugged her and fist pumped Nicolai. "Last time I saw Grans was in a movie," I said as Nicolai led me into the house. "Who parked their crap wagon in my drive way?!" Gran Ma said as we all laughed. Mum commented, "Not a lot has changed around here," as she followed us into the house. It was late afternoon, and, as I was feeling hyped, I thought I should go play a match at the county club. The only reason I looked forward to this `crap' town. I chuckled as I remembered Gran's words.' "Excuse me..Hello?" he said, I thought there was someone speaking to me. I looked up and saw a nurse looking at me. Standing up uncertainly, the diary fell out of my lap. I noticed the grim expression on his face. ". and who are you? Only family and close friends are allowed in the emergency room." He said uncertainly. "Um . um . I'm his friend." I said and the nurse looked at me closely, trying to weigh the truth in what I had said. He looked away from me. My body sagged as a relentless, crushing wave of depression flooded over me. I don't know what told me that everything was falling apart; maybe it was his posture, or the look on his face. I don't know. My legs grew weak, and I had to sit down. I just slumped into the couch and sank down. "He's in a bad shape. The bullet must have gone through deep into his bowels. They're still trying to find it, and since he lost so much blood, it's looking pretty grim." He said as he knelt next to me. He picked up the diary and gave it to me. Turning, he left and went to the nurses' station. I opened his diary and flipped to the first entry. "Welcome to My Life" the title said, and I continued reading: I guess I have to start by saying "dear diary," as that's how everyone does it, no . wait. That's just ridiculous. I guess you're wondering why I am writing a diary, an inanimate object with no feelings whatsoever, but my therapist says it's part of my recovery process. Apparently I need to start by describing in detail what happened, and why I took drugs. I reckon it's just pain dumb, but here goes, although I think doing community service is more than enough. "Today will be different," I said. "It has to be ,I will smile, and it will be believable. I will smile and say 'I'm fine, thank you. Yes, I feel much better' I will no longer be the creepy, lonely boy. I will start afresh as someone new. That's the only way I'll make it through." If only someone had asked how I felt. Sadly, nobody dared. I would have made it through the day. I would have said `I'm fine thanks' without meaning it once, but no one would have noticed. When someone asks how you are, they don't really want an answer. It's just a formality, even a duty to some. I couldn't have been more wrong; I thought that I could smile and nod my way through it all, that I could pretend that it would all be okay. But boy, was I wrong. I met this really hot guy, who seemed really nice. He was playing a match against Nicolai at the Club today. His tennis opponent was Nicolai McNeil Alexander Idiot and resident jock, yea it's my diary, and that's exactly what he is, besides being the school champion and hockey cap. He played in the Regional Hockey League. They were playing a singles match in one of the blue clay tennis courts. The match was at a set point, and it had attracted a small crowd. The new hottie was in crisp white shorts and a white polo shirt. His long, curly, blonde hair was tucked inside his cap. Nicolai's serve was dynamite, but his two-handed cross-court back-hand smash was a killer, and the set went in his favour. Nico was playing a sly game, conserving his energy, letting his opponent make mistakes, then trying to maximize them. They won a set each, then the last set was in Hottie's favour, when he returned a perfect lob shot that sailed just above the net over Nicolai's left side. This finally ended the match two to one in favor of Hottie. Yea, I'm going to call him Hottie. Nicolai stood, looking at the ball, one hand holding his racket, the other on his head brushing through his hair, he was furious with himself. Bet that's a new feeling to the champ. He calmed down, put a smile on his face as he regained his composure, and called, "Beautiful game! Loved the last shot," as he walked towards the net to greet his opponent. They both shook hands, and a rugged applause ensued from the crowd. I ran to them with the towels since I'm the towel boy. "Great game!" I said with a broad smile. Hottie took me in a glance. I guess he was in no mood to entertain anyone, especially a stranger. "Thanks," he said curtly and continued walking away. He smiled, revealing a perfect white smile which was confident and relaxed. The skin on his smooth body was dimpled with sweat, as his powerful legs led him away from me. I was in perpetual wonder as I watched this boy god walk away. He was just over six feet, I'd guess six foot three, and his blond hair that had been underneath the cap was now loose hanging seductively over his eyes. Oh my word, those green eyes had just stared right through me. But the thing that had left my stomach knotted in a mixture of fear and desire was the fact that a boy I had just seen moments before had left me in total lust. I bet I would have crawled over hot charcoal for a single `hi' from him. "You know I play a little tennis myself and was..." I said, trying to push my luck. "If you play a `little tennis', then you're out of my league." he said, cutting me off, then brushing past into the locker room. `Whoa, he smells nice even after a sweaty game like that' I thought as he walked away for the second time. Yep, he's perfect and he just has it all. Since he was playing with Nicolai, I better stay away from him. I sat down on the bleachers and felt a mixture of desire and depression as I watched the young god walk away, totally oblivious to the emotional torment he inflicted on me. That's when I saw Nicolai looking at me from the opening of the locker room. I could see the sadness in his eyes, but hell no. I won't allow myself to fall for that again. I shivered as Vanessa ran up to him, and watched he swooped her up effortlessly and kissed her. However, his blue eyes didn't leave me once. He then went into the locker room, leaving Vanessa walking up to me. "What the fuck are you looking at perv," Vanessa said as she walked towards me. I started blushing furiously at being caught dead staring a guy. "Um . um . nothing was just thin." "Ssh. you might have everyone here fooled, but I know why you went all druggie and drama queen. Well I'm not going to let you snatch my bf, fag." She said. At this moment I felt very scared as she was one person I didn't want to cross. A little secret: Vanessa is Nicolai's girlfriend, but I know better- there's just no chemistry. She still scares the shit out of me, though. I chuckle as I thought she was somehow threatened by me. "What the hell are you laughing at?" She said as she looked into my eyes and I said I have to go. As I passed by her, she caught my hand and whispered "Watch out fag, you don't want me upset." I quickly darted into the locker room and went to lock the gear in. As I was busy packing up the rackets and extra tennis balls, Nicolai passed by and whispered "You sure like playing with them balls don't you?" And he laughed as he walked on. I still wonder what that was about, but anyway, here I am, sitting in my room at night, still thinking about my run-in with the Greek god, not in my dreams, but in reality. I guess it's not so bad working at the county club. At least I run into eye candy. Nothing new. Welcome to my sad life. I closed the diary and remembered what happened that same day. I had just finished playing a match with Nicolai and we were back at Darling point in the pool. "Hey cuz, what's wrong?" Nicolai said as he handed me a cold coke can. "I'm good, just unwinding and getting used to the hot weather." "Aren't you a bit freaked out starting a new school, like, a week late and with your girlfriend way back in Hillside?" Nicolai said as he got into the pool also. "Oh-ho! You're scared I'm gonna scoop your girl from beneath your nose." I said trying to sound macho but burst out laughing as I looked at Nicolai's face. He had been trying to open his can, but he just stopped, mouth open ajar, looking at me. "Dude you should have seen your face, it was priceless." I said. "Oh dude, you're going down." He said as he jumped on the floater seat I was laying on. We both sank to the bottom of the pool, our soda cans also dropping in. ".but you've got a hot babe that was all over you in the locker room." "I'll get you hot hook ups cousin don't worry." Nicolai said as he went over the edge of the pool. "I think that's what I really need. A hot hook-up." I finally said when I had caught my breath.' I looked up to see Nicolai running into the emergency room towards the nurse's station. He looked around, and I saw his bloodshot eyes meet mine. He walked right up to me and said "What the hell are you doing here?" I stood up from the chair taking a defensive stance, "I should be asking you that," I shot back with malice. "I don't need a reason to visit my boyfriend!" He shouted I was stunned he had just admitted it out loud, maybe it was because of the empty room we were in. I felt all the blood rush to my cheeks, and I punched him, he quickly dodged and hit me back, straight in the gut. I screamed as a nurse ran to stop the fight. "I will not have any fighting in the emergency room. Now, if you can't be civil, get out." She ordered. Glaring, we sat opposite one another. I thought back to the reason Nicolai and I stopped talking, then opened the diary and continued reading. "Today I was continuously losing concentration in algebra. I kept glancing at Troy and, yea, he's taking pure math, and he's totally applied to all his subjects, including chemistry and biology. Who knew one could have it all, brains, handsomeness, and money, lol. I blushed as I saw Vanessa, who was looking at Nicolai , who was looking at me. Troy was sitting next to them. I looked down. Ms Thompson had been ranting on about advanced algebra, how complex it was, how hard it was to master. ".but with a little patience practise and enthusiasm one can really do them with their eyes closed.. Bleh . bleh . bleh" I lost her as she was pacing around the room. I quickly put myself on automatic mode and starting thinking about Troy, how early in the morning I had heard his name and how hot he was. I was now really in deep thought and hardly paying attention `why can't we talk about something else like lunch already. oh gosh she's looking at me' I panicked as I saw Vanessa looking at me. "There's nothing I hate more than students who become Alice in Wonderland while I'm lecturing." Ms Thompson said as she banged on my table, jolting me back to reality. Suddenly I realized that everyone was looking at me. I wished the ground would just swallow me whole. "Are we clear Mr Manson?" "Yes ma'am," I replied as I sank deeper into my seat with embarrassment. "If you do not mind, please seat up straight. We don't slouch unless you're old, of which you're not." She added as she walked way. The whole class roared in laughter. I wanted to know if Troy was laughing, but there was no way I dared looked at the infamous corner. After Algebra, in which I had to do an example to show I was back from Wonderland, the bell signalled the end of a gruesome day. I quickly walked out into the hallway, wanting to leave before any jocks had comments about Alice in Wonderland. I also had a meeting with the shrink. As I passed one of the classes, I saw Troy, but I didn't dare check on him. I quickly dashed down the next corridor, bumping directly into a solid mass. I knew that body even before I even looked up. Stretching out a hand, he stood in front of me and helped me up. "I'm sorry," I mumbled as I quickly tried to talk to him. He pulled me into a locker as he grabbed me by the collar. He raised his left hand, while his right was about to punch me in the face. I closed my eyes and waited for the punch, but nothing came. I slowly opened them to see him looking at a terrified Jared, then turn to look right into my grey eyes. I couldn't read the expression in his baby blues, so I just struggled and told him to leave me alone. He pushed me away as Jared rounded the corner, before he shouted, "Fag!" I looked at Jared and ran straight to the counsellor's office. The last thing I heard was a frustrated Nicolai kicking one unfortunate locker. I thought how that could have been me as I sank deeper in the waiting room. I knew he had aggression issues, but he was a ticking time bomb. I took a moment to breathe as I remembered I had not written about my `so called' poor attempt at suicide. "How the fuck did you get that." Nicolai said as he grabbed the diary away from me, and that rushed me back into the room. I stood up, feeling the weight and all the guilt of what I had had done dawn on me. "I'm sorry, Nick. Please," I implored as I handed him the diary, walking towards the cafeteria. I sat in one of the booths remembering exactly why Nicolai and I got so distant. * Hi.
