BROTHER vs. BROTHER

by: 70's Child

The following story is an historical piece of fiction of love and war. Now for the obligatory warnings: 1) if you are underage, you should not be here, but I am not saying leave; 2) if you find love between men horrific, please get the hell out; and 3) if you find love between loving brothers offensive, just do not read. Also for those you are very homophobic and rather see those who are gay die from AIDS or just getting attacked, I have two words for you - ** SUCK IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just so you know, any relation to anyone who was real is purely coincidental.

For those who love history as I do, this will be as historically accurate as possible, but the characters will be fictional. I hope that you love it. In part of this story, a new character was developed. Because trying to type out the name of the character would be time consuming, I will be using initials for the character. Also there is a slight kink episode in this, so those who are offended I do apologize, but I think will help the storyline.

FROM THE PREVIOUS CHAPTER:

The twins began to explain what happened at school. They told their father about the humiliation and meeting Michael. He learned of Chad's transformation through love and caring. John was impressed with the change, but also knew that Brent Brockington was one mean landowner and would not take this change easily. He was expecting that his son would take over with the same savagery that he current showed.

"Dad." Brett said. "We need to back Chad. We would hate to see him suffer."

"How does Thadd feel?" the senior Rutherford asked.

"He's happy." Beau said. "And he found love too."

CHAPTER 10: Tough Decision For All

The next day, everyone arose to a beautiful, cool morning. As everyone dressed, they went to breakfast and the kitchen staff served a wonderful meal. The five men ate heartily, while the three slaves ate in the kitchen, but very well also. Chad and Thadd were prepared to leave and John took Chad aside.

"Just remember, any problems at home." he said. "You come straight here. Your change in attitude is for the better. Keep it up."

"Yes sir." Chad replied. "I will."

The Brockington boys left and John brought his sons into the den. He had them sit, while he passed with what he had to say. He finally sat across from them and looked deep into their eyes.

"First I want to say I love you both so much." he said. "But what I have to say is extremely hard. With what's happening in this country since the election, war in inevitable. How soon, I cannot say, but if war comes, I want one of you to stay in the south and the other to go north. I know this will be tremendously hard, but it will be for the best."

The twins looked at each other in shock. How could their father even suggest this? They were ready to protest, but John stopped them.

"Boys. Just so you know, war is destructive." he said. "And if the south loses, someone needs to lead. Just think it over."

He rose to leave, but looked at his sons once more. The two teens sat there stunned and could not speak. They thought for over an hour, then looked at each other and hugged.

"Dad is right." Brett said. "If there is a war, there has to be a winner. This way one of us can be here to carry on. I just hope that it's the both of us."

"Now the big question." Beau responded. "Who goes north?"

"I will." his brother told him. "I don't want to, and I hope that war does not come, but you are a much better leader."

The twins hugged and did not want to let go. John, KW, and Prince came in and saw the two boys with tears in their eyes. John realized they came to a final decision.

"I will be the one to go north." Brett said. "But we hope war will not come."

"So do I son." their father said. "So do I."

The mood seemed gloomy until some of the slave brought in the Christmas tree. As years before, they placed it in the great room and the household staff decorated it with candles, ornaments, and other decorations. It seemed to bring a bright spirit to the plantation.

The day of joy continued until just after sunset, when there was a pounding at the door. KW answered the door and the two Brockington boys were there. Thadd actually held his brother up and they collapsed in the doorway. Prince picked up Thadd like a baby, while carried Chad like a child in his massive arms. They carried them to the room the two occupied the night before. The Rutherfords finally saw the boys. Thadd had some bruises on his face and arms. Chad's face was badly bruised and cut. When they removed his shirt, there were severe contusions and he was having difficulty breathing. Prince was sent to get his mother, who acted as the doctor on the plantation. Ginny returned with Prince and she looked at the two boys.

"Son, gits da doctor froms town." she said. "Dis boy has busted ribs."

Prince received his traveling pass from John, then went to town in the dark. Ginny tended to the cuts and bruises and tried to make Chad comfortable. The family kept watch over the teens and the teen slave returned two hours later. The doctor checked the large teen and bound the ribs with bandages. The doctor took John aside to explain the Brockingtons' conditions.

"Thadd is bruised." he said. "Chad's very serious. Has he been spitting up blood?"

"No." John replied.

"Then his lungs weren't punctured." the physician said. "He needs to remain in bed for at least a week and no strenuous activity for two weeks."

"No problem doctor." the Rutherford patriarch said. "Thanks for coming by."

He showed the doctor the door and went back upstairs to the room. Thadd was crying and Brett was consoling the teen. John had Beau come into the hallway."

"Okay, what happened?" he asked his son.

"According to Thadd, when they got home, their father noticed the change in Chad." Beau explained. "He demanded why and Chad said he did it for Thadd. He told his father that he needed to change. Their father went after Thadd, but Chad got in the way. Chad pushed Thadd out of the front door, then fought their father. Thadd watched the fight from the window. When the old man was losing, he called for help and they proceeded to beat him senseless. They threw him out the door and their father told them not to come back. Thadd blames himself for the beating."

The two entered the room as Chad woke up. The large teen tried to get up, but John lightly put his hand on the teen's chest. Chad laid back down and tried to speak.

"What happened?" he whispered.

"Do you remember a fight?" John asked.

"Yeah." Chad said hoarsely. "Then a couple of the overseers came in. I don't remember anything after that. How did I get here?"

"Thadd." John said as he glanced with price at the crying teen. "He got you here from your property."

"Thadd." the older boy said. "Please come here."

The smaller teen rose as tears streaked his face. He knelt by his brother and held his hand. Chad lightly put his hand on the back of Thadd's head and pulled him down.

"You have great strength." the large teen said. "And I love you little brother."

Thadd leaned down to hug his brother, but Chad groaned on pain. Thadd leaped so far he wound up in KW's arms. Chad gave his brother a weak smile. John told Ginny to keep an eye on the two Brockington boys, especially Chad. The Rutherfords left the room and went to the library for a conference. John, Brett, and Beau sat down, while KW and Prince stood at the door.

"Dad, something needs to be done!" Beau said excitedly. "Can't they be arrested? They could have killed Chad!"

"Well they could claim self-defense." John replied. "You know Chad's reputation. But there is something that can hurt even more. Leave it to me."

The boys nodded and left the room. The three teens were very angry and wanted action immediately. They looked in on their friends and Ginny smiled sadly, then nodded. The Brockington boys were asleep, but Chad's breathing seemed labored. The three left the room and went to theirs. They undressed silently and they did not feel like making love, but to hold each other with love.

John made his plans, but first he needed to verify his net worth. KW and he poured over the books and he calculated what would be needed. John prepared for the next day. He went to sleep, while KW stayed with Ginny to look after the two wounded boys.

NOTE: Here is the newest chapter folks. I know, no sex. But the chapter is going to play a very important in future chapters. The next chapter will have an interesting twist and surprise ending.
